Problems - Sim Unlock - P3300, MDA Compact III General

After reading through many of the unlocking threads on this forum it quickly became apparent that there are no free sim unlocks for the artemis. Now I dont mind paying a small fee for the service but from what I could gather anyone on this forum asking for a "donation" was asking more than my provider, so I went on ebay and found someone (who had been used OK by another forum member) who was only charging £10. I downloaded the software OK and went through his help file as per instructions, after a few minutes a code was provided. I put in a different sim and entered the code, failed, I tried again, failed, I now have one chance left before the phone is locked. So does anyone know how to reset the counters to give me more attempts? Is there something I am missing? My phone is a UK T-Mobile MDA Compact III.
Cheers for any help ... FF ...

Can you put that unlocker so we can test it?

I would be happy to post the software, but it connects to a server that needs user/pass. I tried it again to see if it gave a different code but it wouldnt let me connect a second time, so I think it would not work.

this is a link to the sim unlocking software

If anyone is capable of backward engineering this then you may be able to work out how it works. Having emailed the guy who sells it, he recons it gets the unlock code straight from the phone. I think the user/pass bit is so it can verify via his server that you paid for it. So if any of you guys can hack this then good luck.

lol... forget it.
And forget about the "backward" (correction: reverse) engineering unless you have some hacking skills.
You need to buy credits to use this software.
And I haven't downloaded it.
You can look it up at gsmhosting.
Just use google.

Why don't you contact T-Mobile directly ? You can mail them or call them. You haven't got any other alternative.
Ah Yes there is another one as heliosfa said : Wait for the Devs to get an unlocker here - Free
why do people not read replies when it is something that they do not like?
Currently, apart from methods mentioned above, there is no way to unlock the universal[/u]
more unlock info
i was wondering, if anyone here has gotten the unlock code from T-mobile, does it take exactly 28 days or is it usually a week or something?
I just took my device to a local shop here in tampa, the guys said he will call me back in like 2-3 hours with the unlock code, i pay him $90 dollars when i get the code and if it works.
He said some really interesting stuff about a guy in Ukraine who unlocks the phones.
Can anyone here also explain how the unlock process works? and if anyone is working on the unlock, what is the current stage it is on, i really don't want to pay the $90, so if i can wait a week, i will, i really need a phone. Thanks to all.

I haven't bothered with the stuff on www.imei-check.com. I'm with T-Mobile USA, so I just called the customer care line and simply asked for my SIM unlock code. They gave it up for FREE. I don't know how BT works, but you could attempt to speak with one of their customer service reps.

Basically, it makes it possible for you to use other GSM carriers with your Dash. For instance, you can use an AT&T SIM card in your Dash and have their service should you choose to leave T-Mobile.
It benefits you if you decided to leave T-Mo for some reason or if you decided to go overseas and didn't want to be charged outlandish prices for coverage.
EDIT: To actually enter the code, you'll need to change your SIM card out for another from a different carrier. Once you do this, your phone will prompt you to enter the code.

hi mate, i have the bt s620 also, and have just unlocked 2 of mine with no probs, admittedly i paid for the unlock i think it was about 9 quid.
and worked both times perfectly.
its an ebay seller.
i dont want to break any rules by posting the link but if you want to PM me i will gladly give you his details, i got both unlock links from him within a couple of hours too.
u can try t-mobile.. and tell them..
ok deleted link cause i paid for it and it was a report on how to do it promptly got my money back after threatening to come round lol
All I can say, Try it out for yourself and post the result. If it works out, I hope it does then leave some feedback for others. Oh by the way, that's pretty darn cheap so give it a shot, you don't got too much to lose
Just to know....
Here in Brazil we can't receive unlock code, from our carries, unless we stay in that carrier for at least 1yr (18 months in some cases) or pays somethink like 2 times the real cost of the phone (and receive a pre-paid sim card). Even if you stays in it for this time, carries try to charge for this code (US$ 150 in some carries).
That's because we, here in Brasil, search for free sim unlock!
Then I ask: no way for free unlock, right ?
Thanks and sorry for my english...
occurs in Peru as in brazil, you have q 2 years minimum contract, to complete the same not unlock the phone you have to keep using the same carrier. why we need to unlock the phone, thanks
If you want to use a differen't carrier's SIM, the phone needs to be unlocked. AT&T does it for free if you're subscribed to their services, T-Mobile you have to be a member for 6 months. How to unlock, ask your carrier when you get the unlock code. With most it's simple, you insert a differen't carrier's sim card, hit "Unlock" when it shows invalid sim, and enter the code. Simple as that.
help
I went to the unlock site, paid my money, got the files, loaded everything, and now the phone just says searching. Nothing else. If I put the original Vodafone sim in, it works, but with 02 it just says searching.
Any ideas,
Vic

For you and all people here knows: In Brazil (and in Peru, as ****man said) we don't have AT&T!!!!!!
And our carries don't give us the unlock code, unless we pay much for that. Even if we stayed with 1 or 2 year contract!!!!!!!
And that's why we need a free unlock method!!!!!!!
So don't say to us to get unlock code from our carries, they don't give it to us.
The I ask again: somewere, somehow, exists any free unlock method ?

You seem a little upset. I've been looking for a free method and I haven't found one. You can either try to pay 40 bux or stick with whatcha got. What can you do about it?

SIM unlocking through the registry? Possible?

So my phone (Cavalier) is sim locked to Vodafone Egypt. I have ordered a code online from mobileunlocked.com and paid 45 dollars for it, and it got to me in a few days, but the code did not work, it told me "Invalid unlock code" anyways I wrote the company and I am waiting for them to get back to me as they promise to either fix the problem or refund me the money.
Anyways in the meantime, as I wait for the company to get back to me, I was doing some playing around and I noticed that I am totally able to go into the registry and change things, without any problems or any restrictions (Manytimes the carrier will sim lock the phone and you would not even be able to change the registry)
So my question is, is there anywhere in the registry where the sim lock/unlock feature is located? and if so is there anway for me to go in there and change it so I can sim unlcok this phone?
I know this may seem like a silly question but I had to give it a shot.
Thanks guys!
The SIM lock is not in the Registry but buried deep in the ROM.
It's not in the interest of HTC or the Telcos to make it easy to unlock so it's usually heavily encrypted and is generally unique to each model of phone.
However there are some pretty smart programmers here in XDA Developers and many of the phones have software available here to SIM unlock them - check the appropriate form for your phone.
If you find a free SIM unlocker that works for you, please make a donation to the developer so that they feel their work is appreciated - it's not easy to crack!
Good luck!
If it is buried deep in the rom, then how come if you put a different rom on, the phone still stays locked?
Again, maybe a silly question?
not the rom, but the eprom or even some form of bios. not sure if these phones have miniture LPC ports or not. never cracked one open.

[Q] Unlocking the T989 Revisited

First:
I know there is a fully legit method to unlock this phone via t-mobile. For what it is worth, I recently tried to do this and was stymied by the bureaucracy before I was able to get it done. Specifically, they apparently had a different phone registered to my account despite the fact I had activated it with the T989 (switched to prepaid) so I had to wait 24 hours for that to get into the system. Then I was required to FAX my proof of purchase but by then I was out of the country.
(Funny story: I got my g/f a legit unlock code, who is running a Vibrant. It didn't work, and we found this out in South Africa. Luckily I brought an extra phone which I had unlocked myself.)
Second:
Has anyone taken a serious look at this? I know there are ways to do this with various (kind of expensive) hardware, unlocking websites of various pedigrees, or taking it in to certain stores for a fee. But first of all where is the fun in that, and second of all, for people in a pinch all of these methods may not work. Best to have a DIY method where all you need is adb and a hex editor.
Third:
Unlocking is a pain anyways, because from what I read you have to go back to stock to do it, and who wants to do that?
Finally:
Does anyone want to try this? I am not a seasoned developer, but I am probably going to go through the official process of unlocking my phone, which means that if there is something I can snapshot, I can do it before and after, which might provide some hints as to where this phone is unlocked. Privacy issues must be respected, meaning I probably will be reluctant to share details such as my IMEI, but maybe we can all work together to figure out offsets or otherwise find a pattern useful in unlocking this device.
Thoughts?
Same thing about the vibrant here. I requested the unlock code from Tmo, and they sent it in a about a day. When I tried to use the unlock code, it wouldn't work. I used all attempts except one and it's still locked.I called T-Mobile and they asked me to send it in.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
The rep you spoke to should have asked you for your new IMEI number so they can punch it in. They can run the unlock code thing whatever with your new imei too, I have no idea why they didn't do that.Thats what I did when I unlocked my phonessssss.

I got mine through T-Mobile. Only issue i had was the dummy who sent the email forgot to actually put in the code so i had to talk to a rep who gave it to me then. But i flashed to stock entered code, and was able to use the ATT sim card perfectly no issues.
BTW the reason for putting it back to stock, i think the apk required for entering the code isnt on custom ROMs.
And just outta curiosity, how do you use ADB and a hex editor to figure out the unlock code? i always wondered where the unlock code came from wondered how it was calculated and such.. it must just be off the IMEI since thats all any company or t mobile needs to get the code..
After hours last night and this morning, this worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024514

[Q] Got unlock code from AT&T but phone won't take it! Pls Help!

Hi guys,
I easily got the unlock code from the folks at AT&T. They were super nice and freely gave me the code once I provided them with the IMEI.
The problem, though, is that the phone won't accept the code -- it says it's incorrect, and takes away one of the 10 attempts each time. I tried it two or three times at the T-Mobile store once I inserted the brand new micro sim the rep gave me, then restarted the phone, and tried twice more, for a total of five attempts. I'm afraid to try it again.
I've called AT&T three times and Nokia twice, and the final time with AT&T a super nice level 2 tech called Misa helped me and stayed on the line while we called Nokia together. She was on my side the whole time, wondering how Nokia could have no knowledge on how to unlock their own phone. It was nice of her and the service almost made me want to go to AT&T (but I like my $50 a month unlimited talk, text and data plan with T-Mobile).
Any ideas on how to do this? I can't really understand why the code is being rejected, as we've verified the code three times at AT&T, and I'm sure I'm reading the IMEI right.
I did try Nokia Care Suite "refurbish" prior to doing the unlock, but not sure if this would have had any impact, as the process failed with a timeout error. As I write this, however, the phone is actually letting the entire refurbish process go through, for the first time, flashing the same version of the software that was on the phone (2175.2301.8779.12223).
Thanks!
Got it, in a very weird way.
OK. I'm sure a lot of people have been searching for this. I have, but my google skills weren't good enough to keep me from spending hours on the phone and at stores today trying to get the damn thing unlocked. I'd just about given up when my brother searched and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35674606# (Thanks Breex243!)
Basically, you just keep trying the code provided by AT&T, ten times, until you use up your ten attempts. I know, it sounds scary, but just do it. Then, it will ask you for your PUK, and give you 32 attempts. You enter the code provided by AT&T at this point (not your PUK). That will unlock the phone. Strange, especially since no one at AT&T nor Nokia seems to know this.
Anyway, thanks Breex243 for posting this! Good luck to anyone else trying it.
I just wanted to verify what sshanky had said above.
We've had a number of people contact us recently about their unlock codes for the Lumia 900 locked to AT&T being wrong, however the process of entering it just needs to be altered.
Simply use up the 10 attempts then try again.
