HP iPAQ 300 series Travel Companion - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Dear Friends,
how much I have understood, this device does not allow to install additional programs. I would like to use it for reading of books (Haali Reader and other such programs). Whether It is possible to install programs somehow there? For example, having changed the system register or having inserted memory card with autorun.
Thank you.

Configure to run tomtom only

How can i change the roms so that only tomtom will work. dont need any phone function, just a bluetooth for the gps. oh i have a m2000 with a upgrade to wm5 if that helps anyone.
Would you please explain a bit more what you want. As far as I know your device's Radio must be ON to switch-on the bluetooth, it doesn't matter if you put the sim in or not, is that you want to do?

all i want to do is have tomtom on the device, how do i get rid of all the other features. would i have to downgrade back to 2003 se?
Tom Tom works fine on my mobile 05 m2000 , why would you want to lose any other features??? if its slow just keep the ram free and try overclocking the m2000
take the sim card out? if you really want to make sure no one uses it as a phone, just snip off the SIM card socket
my question is kinda related -- is it possible to use tomtom WITHOUT a GPS device. that is, i simply want to be able to browse the maps on my pda -- dont care about tracking my location.
Yes it is possible, just go to "Advance Planning" in TomTom and put the From & To addreses and view the route.

adekeys, i am thinking of doing this for my fathers M2000 coz he dosnt use it as a phone anymore, just TomTom. I was thinking of just adding the tomtom app to the startup in the registry, not sure if it will work

Remove WiFi and Bluetooth from a WM5 device

Is it possible to remove WiFi, Bluetooth, Pocket Outlook, etc from a WM5 device . I have a symbol device that only needs 3 programs and a scanner to work. The unit will be docked for updates and data transfers. I already found a way to remove the phone from the device but need to free some more memory.
thanks
PT
You are not going to free any memory by removing these things. They are part of ROM.
I am not sure what exactly you did to the phone (probably just stopped it from working) but check your memory. Chances are you gained exactly 0 program memory from the act.
Check the windows\startup folder on the device. You can remove links from there you do not need (like poutlook) to keep programs from starting automatically and taking up memory. But be careful not to remove something you need!

AyToBe GPS Device

I was wondering if anyone would have any information on modifying the AyToBe GPS Device i recently purchased. It runs WinCE 4.2 Core and runs all its 'GPS' software from an SD card from what I can tell.
I have read in some places that people have successfully put TomTom6 onto the device, via the SD card and it works fine.
I was wandering if there was any possibility to take this further and try loading more 'PDA' type programs onto it to give it more functionality.
The specs are as follows:
ay to be ATB083
Product Number: 607L01792
3.5" LCD touch screen
GPS built in
SD Slot
Mini USB interface
Ir-DA with remote
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.

Apps run on startup and registry tool needed

I have a need for a registry editor so I can block private calls. I cannot leave my mobile off for work purposes, but something keeps calling between 5 and 6am every morning! Must be a computer. I hope that makes you want to help me!
So, I need a reg editor that will work with this mobile (notices many via google but they say you need ARM processor etc, I thought this was an OMAP or am I wrong?)
Second issue, when I start the mobile up if I need to reset or battery died etc, it starts tomtom every time and pocket informant appears on the screen as well, if my battery died while I was on a call, this can add about 2 minutes to the startup time, which is annoying for the person on the other end and me! Do I just delete the start.exe from my memory card for the tomtom issue?
Thanks,
There are several approaches to solve your problem. One would be to use "call firewall" or "turbo mobile event" (more difficult to use) or any other call firewall programm. Or you could use "wireless time" and have it turn your phone off between 5 and 6am. If you don't need it at that time it won't ring.
I didn't understand the second part very well. In \Windows\Startup there are the programs listed that start every time you do a soft reset. I don't know why PI or TomTom should be in those folders. I use PI and had TT installed, only TT has an autorun function I think and that is a file on the SD card in a folder with 5 numbers e.g. 2577 or anything like this. Erasing it could solve the problem, but this should only be the case if you do a hard reset. Normally it doesn't show up after a soft reset. Better check the manual before erasing the file, usually it's only for autorun function, but I can't remember if it's essiantial for the program.
If you really need a registry editor use phm regedit or get fdc soft's taskmgr, it has also a registry editor (multitool!).

just for info... Artemis = OMAP850 = Arm compatible processor.
Specifically the OMAP850 contains two cores, an ARM926 application processor from ARM's family of ARM9E cores and a TI EDGE digital baseband chipset, the TCS3500 (an ARM7MCU coupled with Texas Instruments C54 DSP). Basically the workload of the Wizard (or any mobile device that uses the 850) is thus divided into the two cores (with some shared)
The ARM926 core controls the WiFi module, Infrared, LCD, buzzer, SD/MMC flash card and SDIO modules, LCD backlight, U connection, battery, camera, LEDs and GPS.
As Windows Mobile 5.0 is a multi-task processor, processors has to divide up between the phone part of the OS and the PDA part. Receiving a call could slow the device down considerably, but the 3500 DSP is specifically there to deal with GSM calls.
It also controls EDGE data communications. The DSP also handles the AC97 audio controller, SIM card, touch screen controller and part of the Bluetooth (voice), as well as the speakers.
Both of the cores share the load on memory controller, 2D graphic accelerator, keyboard and data Bluetooth.

Hi,
Concerning the TomTom issue, I had the same problem at the beginning as I use to switch off my SPV at night. It was just a matter of renaming / moving the folder named 2577. I keep it in my Storage card in case I need to reinstall again for whatever reason.

ARM is the proc's architecture (what x86 is for PCs), Texas Instruments is the manufacturer and OMAP is the proc's type (what Pentium is for PCs). So anything for ARM pocessors should be ok. Hope that clears it.

One way to start an app. at startup is through /Windows/Startup
Another way is to put it in the registry, HKLM/Init. Then it would be started at boot time by the kernel. Probably not a good idea, unless you really need it and you know what you are doing.
The third way I know of, is to start it as a service.
That being said, DotFred's Task Manager is what you are looking for. It has a registry editor and a services manager, so that you can stop and/or deactivate a service. Total Commander has a registry editor too, in //Plugins
