Configure to run tomtom only - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

How can i change the roms so that only tomtom will work. dont need any phone function, just a bluetooth for the gps. oh i have a m2000 with a upgrade to wm5 if that helps anyone.

Would you please explain a bit more what you want. As far as I know your device's Radio must be ON to switch-on the bluetooth, it doesn't matter if you put the sim in or not, is that you want to do?
Sidd

all i want to do is have tomtom on the device, how do i get rid of all the other features. would i have to downgrade back to 2003 se?

Tom Tom works fine on my mobile 05 m2000 , why would you want to lose any other features??? if its slow just keep the ram free and try overclocking the m2000

take the sim card out? if you really want to make sure no one uses it as a phone, just snip off the SIM card socket

my question is kinda related -- is it possible to use tomtom WITHOUT a GPS device. that is, i simply want to be able to browse the maps on my pda -- dont care about tracking my location.

Yes it is possible, just go to "Advance Planning" in TomTom and put the From & To addreses and view the route.
Sidd

adekeys, i am thinking of doing this for my fathers M2000 coz he dosnt use it as a phone anymore, just TomTom. I was thinking of just adding the tomtom app to the startup in the registry, not sure if it will work

Tom Tom + GPS Reciver for TYTN

Hi,
Thinking about getting a TYTN and never had GPS navigation before so a bit of a noob. Whats the best kit to get, I would need the software and a GPS reciever so whats best to get.
I have found this - http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php?xProd=142&xSec=8
Or is a bluetooth GPS receiver better? - http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php?xProd=154&xSec=8
If its agains the rules to link to those websites I will delete them.
If you get the TomTom software then get the TomTom receiver as well because it will work right out of the box. Setting up non-TomTom satellite receivers in TomTom is a real pain in the backside.
I had absolutely no problems setting up TomTom with Holux GPSlim236.
Just pair the gpsreceiver with the phone and assing it a com port,
then select the correct port in TomTom. Works like a charm.
TomTom will even enable blutooth by itself.
Holux GPSlim 236
Also using the Holux without any problems. Small device with good battery lifetime and fast fix. Buy a small GPS so you don't have to leave it in your car. Thieves like them now everyone is taking his mobile out and radios tend to be build in by the car manufacturer.
Also take a look at i-Go software instead of TomTom. More maps available for East Europe and many nice features. Very fast on a TyTN! Can be installed from SD card.
Or look out for the SD version of TT5. It's always handy to be able to install a fresh version from the SD card after a PDA crash when there is no PC near. All other versions need Activesync to install, which you probably won't habe able to do on a holiday trip!

xda, tomtom5 and bt gps problems

Does anybody know how to get the XDA EXEC to work with BT GPS
FGPXBT02 as I am really struggling to get this device to work. My phone can see the device in bluetooth but when I run TomTom 5 on the phone the program cannot see the GPS device in the "OTHER BLUETOOTH RECEIVERS" section.
Any ideas?
You probably already solved this, but if not. Make an outgoing port to the GPS in WM5 and select it in TT under the other GPS options. Let me know if you need more help.

And another thing, you will need TT5.21 at least, I believe
Mav
I guess. The TT5 CD's I had crashed instantly on Windows when I tried to install them. On the TT pages there is a workaround to get the map to a Win folder and then copy them over. Also the downloaded update installs nicely.
I'm kind of annoyed at TT, since I have the European maps and figured I'd only need an update for my region. Well the maps from TT5 mobile aren't compatible with TT6 so I'd lose all the European maps. And I think the complete update now gives you a 1GB map with all of Europe - I'd much rather just install the countries I need.

Spectec SDG-810 SD SDIO GPS with MicroSD slot

It's a dream: an SDIO GPS with integrated slot where you can put a(n up to) 2GB MicroSD memory card.
http://www.spectec.com.tw/sdg810.htm
It's a dream because I read that it has drivers for Windows Mobile 2003 but I didn't find drivers for Windows Mobile 2005 to make it work on my HTC Universal.
I invite you to write to them that WE WANT drivers for Windows Mobile 2005!
Here is their email address: [email protected].
It sure looks great but unfortunately the SD slot for our Universal is located at the bottom.
Also, this device requires the slot to be SDIO capable but I doubt our Universal's slot is. I hope I am wrong though
News: Spected released drivers for WM2005!

True...

I hope it too
Here is pic of Spectec mini GPS in Jasjar
http://www.geardiary.com/?p=1894
I very interested in it too, but from picture it seems to still protrude pretty considerably. Fear I might snap it. Found some on ebay for around $150, so might get one and see how I fair.
sdg 810
it does not function on jarjar or qtek 9000
somebody has you it in driver for the jarjar
ummm?
didnt think it did either. mobileplanet even specifically states it does not work with HTC PDA's. but wondered/assumed from picture in the link it was operational and not just visual. well, so much for that. probably was a bad idea anyhow. probably should go with BT GPS, but I hate idea of having so many things to charge....BT mono headphones, BT stereo headphones, BT gps, BT keyboard, and the PPC....be nice to have "BT charging technology"....wouldnt that be something.
navicon?
dunno if you guys already read about (navicon), just found out about it on couple posts from early last year. i gonna look into this as gps solution. anyhow, just wanted to share.
Tested this product, but it doesn't work on every PDA with SDIO slot and WM5.0 I tried it with.
Installed the driver, but both the GPS and the card slot refuse to do anything.
The MicroSD (tried several) won't show in the file system, as it prompts for formatting after inserting in the iPAQ hx4700. When I press OK, nothing happens and the card won't show up in the Explorer as well.
The GPS shows up in the GPS list in TomTom Navigator 5 and 6, but when I select it, the program keeps looking for a fix, without success, even after 1 hour.
I tried lots and lots of SDIO devices, but none of them seem to work. It might be a faulty sample I received from Spectec, but until that isn't sure, I say: damn what a 'pain product'.
It may be al late respond, but it works on my hx4700 as a GPS, installed with WM 6.1, only the card reader doesn't. Fast fix and with clear sky 10 satelites. It even receives indoor if you are close enough through a window.
Tomtom 6 has difficulties, but miomap 3.2, IGO 2008 work just fine.
You have to install GPS tweak first, to find the com port. It's com 6, bautrate 38400.
Swaped the SDIO for the Bluetooth model
Spectec was surprizingly helpful when I contacted them about the lack of compatibility with models the GSP SDIO was supposed to be compatible with. They gave me the Bluetooth version which worked with my ipaq 1910 and am now testing with my HTC universal. Theorectically it would work with any BT PDA even without a SD slot.... that is if you could figure out someway to power the thing.
I don't even have a Universal and even I know that it is SDIO compliant... :S
And now???
So, I've got here my NEW Qtek 9000 ready to swich from WM5 to WM6.1 ROM.
Is there anybody can say Spectec SDG-10 is finally WORKING now? (seeing satellites and reading maps on the enbedded microSD)
Spectec-sdg 813
I have a SPECTEC SDG-813 which I have tried with my Wizard (Cingular 8125) and a laptop. I have found that it does not work well with either device. It aquires satellites runs for about 30 seconds then locks up. Which than requires a reboot and repairing with BT.
So it has been very frustrating and SPECTEC support has been very poor. Their inital response to my request for help advised me how to set the device up under BT. I had to resend the message and point out to them that the device is setup and aquiring satellites and then locking up.
I have been waiting to see if there will be any further advice.

Tomtom 6 is purposedly disable for the Tytn ??

Having just bought a Tytn I found that my tomtom 6 didn't work. I seemed to have two issues. 1) It hung up frequently and 2) It kept losing my external bluetooth GPS receiver.
I thought I'd go to Tomtom's page to see if there was a fix given that HTC mention this saying that Tomtom have updated version 6 for the device.
http://www.europe.htc.com/en/htctytn/support/faq.html?id=539&cat=applications
To my horror I I found this page which suggests that the device is not supported, never has been and never will be. The reason according to Tomtom is due to an agreement with HTC,
http://www.europe.htc.com/en/htctytn/support/faq.html?id=539&cat=applications
I am trying to catch up on this device so am swamped by data at the moment but this is a real blow to me as one of the main priorities is to run Tomtom 6. When I bought the device I assumed that it was just a pocket pc with a phone in it. Seemingly I am wrong as there appears to be differences with the hardware or Tomtom checks the device it's running on and presumably refuses to work properly.
Can anyone enlighten me as to how ( if at all to get around this issue). Currently my device still has mobile 5 but I am ploughing through the plethora of information on this site trying to figure out exactly what I should and shouldn't do. I've a lot of catching up to do..
Any advice / suggestions would be most welcome, it seems too strange a concept to be locked out of running a pc app just because of the hardware it's running on.
EDIT: Apologies moderator this probably shouldn't be posted in the wm6 thread even though I am intending to move over and would like to use tomtom on that. Please move it if necessary.

Try a search on the Hermes forum. I found lots of stuff.
I found THIS ONE . But there were MANY others. Some users reported success with some ROMs.
Don't fret, it works fine on mine... Are you running a WM6 image - you may wish to upgrade to wm6 if you're not. (or downgrade to TT5.....)
Treat the issue as 2 separate problems, bluetooth related loss of GPS unit, and the stability of the TT6 software.
There are any number of other applications that will let you connect and read signals from the GPS unit, try these to see if you have a faulty gps unit or if its TT playing up.
Once you're happy with this look at the TT issue.....
I have 2 Varios II and I can admit that I had some issues with TT6 with WM5. TT liked to freeze when I was typing in the address or browsing through menus. When I changed to WM5 AKU3.2 it was better, but still not perfect. Eventually, it was WM6 that helped me. Now TT6 is running without any issues (of course it can freeze from time to time when I have too many programmes running in the background). Just try any of new WM6 and everything should be fine.
I had TT5.21 which people said run fine which didnt on wm6 but TT6.1 works fine
Long time since i've been on here but while i was browsing about, i saw this problem. All i can suggest is using the inbuilt GPS and see how that works? I have TT6 as well and i have used it perfectly well on an XDA Mini, XDA Orbit, SPV M700, HTC Touch, HTC TyTn II... seems a bit odd that you're having these problems. Have you since cured the fault or is it still being a bit of a ****bag?!
While i'm here... anyone got the latest maps at all for TT6? Shout me on [email protected] if you have any info on TT6 or need any PDA / Pocket PC help.

Yeah, I had established that the gps was working fine, I've been happily using it on my ipaq 2210 for ages. Then with the Hermes testing with gpsgate and some other stuff showed no problems.
The problem I had was that my TT6 was a 2GB SD card version and I didn't have micro SD big enough to test it. I had about 1hour to play with my friend's one and that's when I discovered the two problems.
He lent me the card to play with this evening and I've made a little progress now. I've sorted the flakey GPS operation, primarily by changing the com port, deleting the pairing and pairing again. So far that's not dropped out since.
Tomtom runs but freezes, this appears to be a confirmed problem which I hope that WM6 will solve as (mean-machine) suggests.
I feel a lot happier that the damn thing runs at least. The freezing appears to be related to cpu usage as I find that that zooming right out on a map is a good way to cause this to happen. The menu screens can be a problem too and the rest appear intermittent. As others have stated in other threads, hitting the red button and then switching back to TT will free it up.
I guess the next thing is to study the Wiki and try an make sense of the order things need to be done to put WM6 in, which Rom if any, which version of WM6. ... Information overload, so I think I need to take it slow and ingest the data .
Thanks for all the replys guys, it amazes me how much support HTC has and how many of you are passionate about them. Up till a few months ago I had never heard of HTC, now I doubt I'd consider anything else.

Hi rbin,
I've currently got the GPS panel set to 'program port = com2', 'hardware port = com0' and my bluetooth gps is set to 'outgoing = com0'
Currently this works well so the GPS issue has been resolved.

Great link, thanks Todd. Reading glasses are on already.
TT6 w/Pharos and Holux recievers work great
I've an AT&T Tytn upgraded to WM6 and have no troubles with my Holux or Pharos receivers and TT6.
Everything works great EXCEPT issues with data connections such as TT Buddies or traffic. This isn't unique to the PDA version of the software though, as I also have a standalone TomTom GO 910 paired with the phone and it works almost okay as a bluetooth speaker phone, but constantly has trouble getting a good data connection.

I have used TT6 on my MDA VArio II (TyTn) for almost a year...no problem. Now I have the TyTn II
Same here.. been using Tom tom 6 on my Tytn since the day i installed wm6, no problems here, works like a charm!
HEAT???
I have been using TT6 on my Imate JASJAM running the DOPOD WM6 ROM without much trouble (no hanging etc). The only problem I am experiencing is huge power drain and the unit being physically hot when running TT. Maybe this power drain and potential overheating can cause some units to hang and playup, or potentially any unit given the right environment!
Anyone else finding their units getting a bit hot?
I've been using TT6 on my Tytn (MDA Vario II) almost one year now. No problems. Started using TT6 while running WM5, upgraded to WM6 (schaps rom), reinstalled TT6 and it just continued as before. No problems, no hangups no freezing. I've been using all kinds of different charts with TT6, so I don't think the problem is with TT.

Going to try your settings too, cause on all WM6 roms I tried I keep losing my GPS BT connection. I'm not damn sure it got nothing to do with TT6. But when I delete my gps and reconnect it while TT6 is up and running, TT will find the gps straight away. So imho it's the BT connection that fails and not TT.
It's really annoying though.
Cheers, M
I have been running TomTom Navigator 6 on my JASJAM for some time. The hanging problem described is probably caused by having all the Points Of Interest (POI) active.
Go into the TomTom settings menu and de-activate ALL the POIs. Try it, then only turn on the ones you actually require.

Doesn't work either. Seems that after a soft-reset the BT connection with my GPS is f*d. Very strange because the BT headset doesn't suffer any of this. Maybe time to buy a new GPS, but with WM5 I never experienced this behaviour.
I found that with tt6 you need to have the WM6 internal gps settings set to "None" for both program and hardware port. Then make sure the box is checked in the last tab so it autodetects the com ports. Once all this is set and you goto add a bluetooth gps device in tt6 it gives you the option to use com port 0. select this port and it should detect your gps unit with no probs. Been running tt6 on my 8525 with tnt's latest cooked rom and things couldn't be running smoother.
Edit: On another note. I used to use Telenav with my 8525 with the original at&t rom. I had the worst luck with that application. I would constantly lose my gps connect and I almost always had to do a soft-reset to get it working again. It is quite possible that Telenav was not the issue and that the particular rom I was using had bluetooth connection issues that were resolved when I switched to a cooked rom such as the tnt one. So for those using tt6 with BT connection problems you may want to try a different rom and see how your luck goes.

Upgrading to WM6/6.1 losing passwords...

Can someone give a definitive answer to this, I am using an Orange SPV M700 which I have flashed with the generic Dopod WM5 rom Version 1.23.405.2.
I have tried various WM6 roms and have had the same issues with them all, I loose bluetooth pairing authority, the wirless keys are lost and Tomtom map activations are lost too.
Is there a way to resolve this issue as I see there are a lot of users with the Trinity and WM6 in signatures, so someone must be doing something right.
After having flashed my phone from WM5 to WM6, the tomtom ID of my phone changed too... Perhaps Tomtom's support will help you with that?
I have no problem with bluetooth...
It's not that, perhaps I should have been a bit clearer.
After flashing to WM6 & pairing across bluetooth for the activesync, connecting it to my wireless & activating the tomtom maps, give it 24hours or so and these details are lost. Although the bluetooth PC is still in the paired devices, the pairing code needs to be re-entered as does the wireless key if I try to connect to that.
The Tomtom map needs reactivating again also.

I already read somewhere about this.
When you do some pairing with bluetooth and PC sometimes you lose the maps!!
Don't have further details though
