Hi all,
One of the users in our company has locked himself out of his i780 by forgetting the 4-digit PIN he set on the device (not the SIM PIN).
The problem I have is that it is running one of the older ROM's that did not have the hard reset button combination on it so I cannot reset it at all. It also won't enter bootloader mode using the usual combination (although this may be because of the countdown timer on the device not accepting input).
Anyone got any ideas on what I can do next?
Thanks.

I wonder if you can short certain pins on the flash chip to destroy the checksum and thus cause the device to reset itself - this method was used in the LinkSys WRT54G router and some MP3 players..
did you try reflashing the phone with new firmware? might help since the pin is set on operating system level (afaik), the firmware upgrade is done on bootloader level.

But he can't get into the loader mode, so Mirage is a no-go.. I suppose the phone doesent even connect to ActiveSync, hm? If it would then the official HL1/2 updaters are able to reset the phone into the loader mode and flash it
Correct, I cannot get it into bootloader mode because the usual key combo does not work and activesync refuses to recognise the phone until the PIN is entered so I cannot use Mirage or the official updaters!
Looks like I'll have to send it off to Samsung!
Cheers guys.
try contacting them first by phone and see if they can't help out. otherwise you'll have to wait for a looong time
Yeah, I've sent phones to them before, they do take a while.
They say they need them back to take the lock off so looks like it'll take a while!
Moral of this story: Don't forget that damn PIN!

Doesn't it wipe itself after the 50th attempt?
How old is that version? before Nov2007? Can you post the version number? something like "i780XXHA4"

By Omnia this ok
1. type *7465625*638*# to set
2. type your MCC/MNC code (list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code), e.g.26003 for Polish ORANGE
3. type your new NCK (12345678), then OK
3. type *#7465625 to check your lock
4. type #7465625*638*# and type your NCK (12345678)
5. enjoy.
my verizon xperia is not recognized by either pc companion or seus. I am trying to do a hard reset due to the fact the lockscreen doesnt work. I have read that I can press and hold the back and search keys on front while powering on to factory reset the phone, however that does not seem to be the case. Can anyone give me some suggestions if the two button factory reset does work and that maybe I am just doing it wrong. And any suggestions as to how to get my phone to connect with seus so I can reset if teh 2 button trick is indeed not an option. Thank you to all in advance.
Doesnt anyone have an idea? I follow seus instructions. Power off wait 30 seconds, then plug in the usb cord to the pc, then press and hold the back button then inserting the usb cable into the phone... and then I wait for it to connect which it doesnt.
have you tried removing the battery wait a bit and put it back and then try again. I had something similar happen when I first got mine.
yes.... I waited beyond the 30 seconds it suggests. I eve waited about 2 hours once. Still nothing......I really want to get this device working.....it does power up. Everything seems like its supposed to work but it isn't. Thank you for helping me... I really really appreciate it.
hey, if youre comfortable, we can unlock the bootloader on it. if we do that, then you can just use fastboot and the files you can get off of my State of Development thread to return you back to stock. You could also root it. If that interests you, send me a pm with your ESN and Ill get you an unlock code.
Or do you still wanna try to figure out the **** fest that is SEUS?
I would love to unlock the bootloader. I have always had motorola android phones so even though i have never unlocked the bootloader I would love to.
Where would I find the ESN #? I am not able to get past the lock screen....so all I can do it make emergency calls
I have PM'd you my phones info. Thank you for your assistance
What is preventing you from passing the lock screen exactly? Programming?
the phone says that the pattern lock attempts has been exceeded... and the only way to unlock is to enter either a gmail info or answer the question. Neither of which I know.
Ahh! phew i thought it was more serious than that. Were you able to have the phone activated on your Verizon account okay? The esn wasnt blacklisted or anything?
And the funny thing is, even if you HAD got seus working, it would not have fixed that problem. SUES doesnt wipe the device as far as I know.
the *#06# in the emergency dialer doesnt show anything?
also the MEID is under the battery.
I have not activated the phone as I cant really use it in its current state. I did check with Verizon and the phone can be activated no problems.
I do have the MEID #, is it safe to list it here?
Also, the phone does not take the #* code, says its not an emergency number
K, i have successfully unlocked my bootloader on my phone..... I am trying to make sense of what to do next
YAY!!!!!. I unplugged and rebooted the phone after unlocking the bootloader and now my phone is back... I can sign into google now
you should use this command and reflash the stock system
fastboot flash system system.sin -w
this will erase usersettings and reinstall the stock rom.
make sure you have the rom downloaded.
edit- Never mind.

Thats great! totally forgot that actually unlocking the bootloader performs a factory reset. So awesome! Go get you some root!
now that I have it restored, the screens touch sensitivity is all over, it keeps thinking I am trying to load up voice commands. I would like to flash a rooted ROM, and from what I have read on kernals for the r800x theres nothing worth flashing just yet. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to flash a rooted stock rom?
Also, I am still not able to enter Flash mode with the whole back button while inserting usb cable. the light is still blue.... any suggestions?
You shouls be holding the search key.
sent from the original unlocked R800X.
i will try the search button instead. Also I flashed a kernal and now the phone is super slow. How do I flash the stock ROM and stock kernal. I am doing some reading but I am still lost. seems like I get routed to xperia arc pages...... can anyone give me some guidance. sorry to be a pain, but I am excited to learn

Hey, everything you need to know is in the many pages (and the initial post which is constantly updated) on my State of Development thread. Read through there and you will see that everyone else is also having problems with the kernels and roms making the phone unresponsively slow. The first post also has links for stock files that you might need.
Basically if you get your phone into fastboot mode (turn off, hold search key, plug in USB line, solid blue light turns on) you can do two commands to get you back to stock, and then follow the rooting instructions that I have on the R800x Rooting thread. Its linked in the state of development thread. Second item, i believe, below the link to Bin4rys.
The two commands would be "fastboot flash system system.sin" and "fastboot flash boot kernel.sin". the first command might not be necessary even, just the kernel one might fix you.
Hey guys,
I think I'm totally screwed, but figure I'll throw it to the gurus.
My brother passed away recently and I now have his phone. It was in police custody for a couple of months, so the battery ran completely flat and now it won't boot. I can get to the bootloader screen, but it won't let me boot into either recovery or download mode - it just says "failed to boot to .... mode"
I can communicate with it to some extent via fastboot (i.e. I can see the device and can get it to reboot), but can't flash anything.
I'm mainly hoping to access the internal memory to pull any photos that might be in there, doesn't really matter if the phone never works again.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Wow. Please first accept my condolences. Losing a sibling must be a terrible experience.
Unfortunately I have to tell you that without download mode or recovery the phone is pretty much done. There is no other way that I know of to get at those all important photos. I understand that they must be important to you because of what they may contain, memories.
Abd is the recovery, fastboot is download mode. The bootloader (white screen) has no control. Without fastboot in download mode you can't flash anything. Without recovery you can't flash anything.
It pains me to tell you that you may never get access to the phone. The only thing I can think of is to reach out to htc and see if they could help or take the phone to a professional and see if they can do anything. Most likely it's going to require hardware but even if you get access to the phone, if your brother locked the device with a code or pattern etc, if you don't know the unlock then you won't get past the lock screen which must be unlocked at least once to get access to the operating system by any means..
I wish I could help you with this more..
Hey peeps, I have my friend's phone that doesn't accept the pattern to unlock. I have to add that I have tried everything manually possible to get the phone into recovery mode but it will not start. The device is not carrier locked but also I cannot get the IMEI number due to the pattern lock screen which I cannot bypass. What do you suggest I do?
I was thinking about re-flashing the firmware on it, but I am not sure if it'll work. Please, I need urgent help to revive this phone for my GF.
Is there anything that I can do via the companion? Or maybe force rooting it or anything of sorts? I managed to get it into safe-mode once... but that was all... nothing else I could do.
Looking forward to hearing from you guys.
Good morning,
I'm writing this post 'cause I'd like to know if it's a possibility to "unlock", if I can say this, my phone. My company installs on my phone VMware Hub and the Debug USB is locked because I cannot unlock the related menu. I've tried to format the phone from original recovery by wiping data and nothing changed. So, I've run my phone into bootloader in order to overwrite the original firmware with a new original one. The process is ok but when I restart my phone, VMware is installed and configured.
Now, a question, is it possible to remove it withouth root or debug USB? I'm so annoyed because it is possible to check everything I do in my phone
Did someone answer you? I have the same problem.
Thanks.
Hello, sorry for such late reply been way for too long, the answer is simple, go to developer options, select the oem unlock option reboot the phone to download or recovery i don't remember, a message will come before that will alow you to unlock bootloader, precede to unlock, i can't recall if the phoene will reset but i assume so, when it comes back it will no longer be tied to your employer, it will be an A50 like any other bougt on the store, keep in mind that from then foword you will get a message saying that bootloader is unlocked at phone power on, that's it
