I've been offline for few months. I'm currently using Schap's 4.01 with AT&T. As somewhat of a geek, I'm bored and thought of upgrading the ROM again. What is considered stable with AT&T 3G?
Thanks,
Greg

yep... the question on all of our minds.. to be honest, this type of question has been asked (probably) thousands of times on this board. typicaly i jnust read the posts and the wiki, then i just start flashing...Ks seemed to be the fastest for me and the programs thqat i use. im tring out these vietnameese(hahaha i cant spell atm(at the moment not axx to mouth)) 6.1 roms. they are good, really good. the only problem is they speak and type vietnameese, and i dont so the support is limited. i really wish they at least typed english...jeezzz
anyway good luck with your search bro...
my only question is you seem to refer to your self as a geek...how is this? geeks traditionaly knida know how to look stuff up.
take care bro
I looked it up, but everyone has their own favorite. When you do a search, you get overwhelmed with responses on this topic. My hope was that there would be a few others that had upgraded from the Schap's 4.01 ROM that would know of specific issues.
I guess that's what happens when you go AWOL from the forum a few months.
Thanks for the response.
Agree with above that U need to decide (we can't do it for U). Here's the most recent thread (there are many many more) on the same question...check the posts out for ideas:

Schap's 4.31 WWE Lite
I have been using Schap's 4.31 WWE Lite for more than 2 months now. It is fast and stable. In fact it is so good that I won't upgrade unless there is a cooked WM 6.1 Lite version out with the same speed and stability.

What about the issues with bluetooth in those roms?
Every Schap rom since v4.0 has the same bluetooth issues, it's impossible to send or receive files by using bluetooth, ActiveSync and ICS are the only applicitations that will work with bluetooth aswell for bluetooth (A2DP) headsets.
Untill then I'll continue using the orginal T-Mobile rom.
(I wont get to hasty on flashing Wm6.1 on my mobile, because of all the issues with it, poor IE, bluetooth problems and even worse, programs that refuse to work.
Just my 2 cents.

I don't use BT file transfer, so I wouldn't know. BT ActiveSync works great, and that's what counts for me.

6.1 roms aren't ALL unstable... I've been using 19209.1.0.2 PV DVH since its release and its VERY FAST & seems to be very stable... I put apps I'd been having issues with on and no problems. 19202 wasnt really stable but give this one a shot if it suits you and dont be scared of the 6.1 boogeyman. besides, you can always go back to wm6...
i had been trying a bunch of different 6.1 roms on my hermes and was always having issues. Then i read somewhere that you need to flash it with the OEM version of 6.0. After i did this i flashed 6.1 back on and havent had any problems since.

I have been running black2.0 and its great! Quickly got donations after only a day of usage. No resets required @ all. There has been no lock-ups yet. I have had it on my phone since it was released
P.S. Flashing has become very addictive!!! Anyone know what to do with the MONKEY...LOL
Definitely LVSW all version - the most professional release around.
So far the only OS so far that has supported all of my programs properly, as well as VoIP and other enhancements is Black 2.0.
Dutty's WM6 comes close, but I haven't been able to get VoIP working with it properly yet.
As for the LVSW editions. I installed his first release and quite liked it, I've been wary about flashing the more recent versions however after the white screen issues. (I'm sure its been resolved by now though.)
Running a custom version of black 2.0 myself
all are good!
all versions run good, the difrence is mainly the add ons.

I have to disagree. Go into the thread and read the user experiences. It's heavily "bugged".
1. Dialer without buttons (will appear for a while after soft reset)
2. Explorer when launched hangs the device up (soft reset necessary)
3. connecting to 3g/gprs the device blocks (soft reset necessary)
IE is completely unusable, and even if you use opera, you still can't get gprs. Ans that us with all 3 versions. I tried them all, and now back to LVSW (08-04)
Dutty knows this and has promised a revision soon. My vote goes currently for LVSW.
I've only tried the black Black and the latest LVSW, but my vote goes to LVSW.
right now i'd go with black. i've flashed all of kyphur's public ones, lswv 3-23 and all the black flavors. been happiest with 2.0 but can't wait for xda live 0.3
I would have to vote for Black 2.0 and XDA Live .30. These are by far the most stable for the apps that I run. I have run pretty much the full suite of SPB software on both without any problems.
I keep switching back and forth as I can't decide which I like better.
used only BLACK. never had to think of trying the others...

Hey, which rom is the best for the Hermes currently? I tried that other one with the TouchFlo, didnt like it its too slow.
Which rom is fast and reliable?
Thanks for the help
Try my rom, see signature, maybe it is something for you
Check the Benchmarks Post
There is a post with benchmarks of the various ROMS, in the hermes mobile 6 forums.... open and check them all out.... Schaps has some of the best. VP3g also has some great stable clean ones for ATT users.
Yes, I recommend Schap's ROMs as well. I've been using 4.01 since I got my 8525 and its been great. He does a lot of awesome work.

I'm using the one mentioned above by Pay and it is very good.
Ive tried Schapps 4.0(i think it was beta when i tried), 4.01 and im currently trying 4.20 out. I like the touchflo, but as others have mentioned, 4.20 is slower even with it overclocked at 500. My vote would be Schapps 4.01. Its fast and stable.
Tried Schaps, TNT and others, but i love Pays Rom! It is the best for me so far Very stable and one of the fastes imho!

Is there any rom that makes the phone more of a dumb phone. Something that where after a call it goes back to the today page instead of having to close everything. Or if I select a contact to call them, it closes that page instead of leaving it open and going to the phone.
Also, has anyone found better battery life in certain roms?
Edit: After doing some research, it seems that I'm looking for Windows Mobile 6.1
Its been a while since ive even bothered to snoop at whats going on in the old hermes world. I still have my hermes and am curious to see how far wm6 has progressed.
now the dilemma is that so much has happened since i last worked on black (dont get excited - i hung up my boots) and dont know which one to install.
So which is the "best" in terms of stability/speed etc?
Welcome back buddy! WM6.1 builds have a lot problems for now - freezing and HR - maybe depends on BS, but we don't know at the moment.
Maybe you will be successfull...
PDAVIET is the best!!
FARIA.R-32
I've been using it for few weeks now. And had absoultly no problems at all. Best rom so far (at least for me ).
I reakon CRC's ROMs are the best
Try the stable one if you rely on your phone, or the development one if you want to try the bleeding edge stuff...
I vote PDAViet, clean, BigStorage which makes it darn fast and no stability problems whatsoever. Been running for 2 days now

I really wouldn't call 2 days stable... If I relied on my phone, I'd be looking for something that has run for weeks before calling it stable
I wouldnt go to 6.1
Many different custom ROMs of WM6.1 that I've tried.
Some crashed to a hard reset
Some frequently froze
Some froze/crashed/kill my dog
All for what? SMS Threading? And it's an ugly SMS threading by the way, and if you got more than a hundred SMS, it would take a while for it to load threaded SMS with each contact. All other features of 6.1 are either useless to common users (such as corporate security junk) or are transferable to 6.0 (such as Office 6.1)
I've went back and forth between 6.1 and 6.0 until sticking to 6.0
It's faster & stable (won't stay "stableR" because 6.1 is NOT stable)
See it this way
WM6.0 = XP
WM6.1 = Vista
One is older than the other, but all the newer version's stuff was transferable to the older version.
Though I wouldnt say WM6.1 has ANY improvement over the GUI like Vista did.
Newer doesnt necessarely mean better.
Eventually, a hardware device is old enough and newer "software" doesnt improve anything at all.
I'm still running mid-2005 Nvidia drivers on my laptop Most stable drivers for THAT laptop (as it's old).
Hermes is old
I've found that it depends on the Windows Mobile build... Out of all the 6.1 builds I've played with:
19199 = WM6.1, seems to be very stable on all devices.
19209 = WM6.1, seems to be stable on some devices, lots of issues on other devices. Can freeze or hard reset, but it's either it works 100% or fails completely. Not 100% sure why as yet.
19400 = WM6.1, haven't been able to get this to even boot as yet.
This is why I've split my development into Stable (uses build 19199) and Development (uses build 19209 - or higher when I get it working).
Oh that's easy - TNT.19199
The full version.
Only need to add FTouch SL
Simply the fastest and the most fully loaded ROM I've ever used.
(probably partially due to the X-button that actually terminates application process when you click it)
And it's fully loaded with things you can actually make use of...
I'm still finding new useful things to do with the apps it comes with.

I agree with you 100%
HOWEVER, while 19199 doesn't "hard reset", or crash under "CASUAL" use, it is very sensitive to "torture" use.
6.0 can take in a lot of crap, changing radio bands while turning off bluetooth and having Live Messenger trying to initiate a GPRS connection. 6.1 19199 would most likely just vomit, pass out on face first in the toilet bowl and wake up a while later feeling groggy.
Though it's better than 19209 which would end up overdosing (hard reset)
I dont have any concrete examples of how to stress test 19199 into bugging, but after running 19199 (including your 9.1 ROM, which is the last WM6.1 I tried). I defitively saw the difference between WM6.0 and what is considered to be "stablest" in the WM6.1 kind.
WM6.0 is much more responsive.
i've tried all 6.1 roms and they are excellent in all areas but one - the battery life. it's simply too short no matter what you do.
so, i went back to the best rom i've tried so far - K's final WM 6.0 - it's got the speed and battery life way better than any wm 6.1 rom out there

I find this one incredibly stable, just as long as you don't stupidly add the x-button program on top of what's already there. It'll create a conflict in the software and force a reset.
I don't text, so I'd advise reading through to gauge what other people think.

CRCs ROM
I too have tried every ROM on this board I could find. The one liked the best was CRC's r9.2. It seemed to load the fastest, from the get go. I noticed right away in the screen alignment. Here is the link.

For texting the WM6.1 is a must, with threaded TXT, it's amazing. Like you I am running the AT&T 8525. I had problems with my internet connection, then I updated my radio, here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/73390245/HERM_Radio_Only_1.54.30.10_CustomRUU.zip.html
After that, no problems.
I liked this one the best because it had everything I wanted, Task Manager, Office Mobile, Flashlite, and the auto-network config worked better than others I tried.
It will be this ROM for me, or the Offical ROM from AT&T. I CANNOT wait for his 10.4 release.

Stable and fast
Hi
I have tried most of the roms released here, and just 2 months ago came across DVH roms. This Vietnamese guy is really finding speed and reliability in my Hermes. It is the only roms that didn't mess up no matter what I install. All the others fail sooner or later or they are too slow compared to the roms of this guy

If you are on your 6th one in a month then how do you know they are stable? You dont seem to use them long enough to find out.
Most of the 6.1 roms out there are stable, however you need to follow the rules and flash a carrier rom before flashing. - some require a good radio rom etc.
i saw you posted in binkys 3.9 thread.. well im using that rom and have been using it pre-release and its fine.. no problems what so ever.. so theres something wrong with the way your running your roms.
So far I found Pay's last one to work the best for me. I have kept it longer then any ROM including the stock one so far. I will probably try one of the 6.1 roms again now that they are getting figured out more, but that will be after I come back from Greece.
All I do is text, MMS, make phone calls, and check the weather or check my email from time to time and the best IMHO is the MRH ROMs followed closely by the Binkey11's ROM. The MRH one is my favorite because it has most the features and apps but Binky's is really good for being light and fast. I am bouncing back and forth between them and I like them the most right now.
I am also a HUGE fan of Schaps ROMs so be sure to look for that one here in the next little bit. I would venture to guess it will probably be the benchmark all other WM6.1 ROMs are measured by.

If u flash often, then u know u'r device's feel, behavior, apps, etc. So, it doesn't take that long to evaluate if u'r own device is stable, buggy, quick, slow, etc.
I find most of these cooks roms (from hard work & revised versions) very stable...
This is how to go about?

i saw you posted in binkys 3.9 thread.. well im using that rom and have been using it pre-release and its fine.. no problems what so ever.. so theres something wrong with the way your running your roms.

PDAViet WM6.1 build 19900 black version ROM is the best thing that happened to my TyTn. I've been running this for a month now, its fast, stable, no problem what so ever though loaded with lots of apps. Its really a good one for my hermes.

So why do we do this and what is the reason to go through all of this?

i believe it has something to do with the storage, and the carrier rom returns the device to the original settings.
CRC's ROM's are the best in my opinion & I think I've tried most of the others.
Been running CRC 10.4 since release with no issues.
I find it's only add-ons or bad CABs that may make them unstable.
Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE Lite
Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE Lite or Berd's 4.31 SS (=Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE Lite with 3.62 SuperStorage).
Have been running this ROM for months now, zero issues and very very fast.
We initially had a poll on the best ROM for artemis.
That was a while ago and we have a lot of new chefs in business cooking wonderful ROM's
Can any of you please start a similar poll with all the new ROMS which has come out.
I think we should do this to give the best chef among all a little more deserved recognition.
sure v should have a poll once again

I would second that any day..
Meschele had prepared the best ROMS's (In terms of speed and stability together) ...
It is a shame he quit the forum without giving us a nice manila ROM which would not keep on crashing

For me this rom best

I'm new here myself, trying to learn to cook some roms, I've tried about any rom I could find and the fastest and most stable so far is meschle's 3.01 vanilla, yes it is wm6.0 and does need some extra programs installed, but I prefer installing thing rather than removing them afterwards (which can be tricky). I'm also fond of gullum's TF2D beta5, but he is also not going to make any new versions anymore.
I want to make own rom from a very clean wm 6.1 source and only do minimal customisation and let the end-user and myself decide what apps to install. I don't see the need to pack a rom full of apps that get outdated when newer versions of the apps are released with no way of properly uninstalling it.
If anyone has some new clean wm6.1 XIP/SYS sources please pm me.
My best ROM is YuE_v11.1_3.15.20755_ExtraClean_WWE, cuz it is very fast, stable, and Roomy. Ver 14 had a bunch of faults. I never liked other versions, cuz of being stuffed with too many softwares I never used.

Artemis Touch 4.02 Full with 4 sided cube,
the first one i ever ''flashed''to my htc p3300.
i must say it works very good but it takes 100% cpu usage on this phone unfortunally.
now im flashing''no nonsonse_6''on this moment to my phone for faster working(i hope)............
installed,it looks not fancy but it looks not bad.
simple use but i am really searching for a rom that is fast, and with nice graphics and programs(like live messenger)
edit;
[rom][wwe][01.02.09]achilles Manila 2d (ce Os 20764.1.4.3) version 3 YouTube[online]
is the one i installed now on my tmobile mda compact 3(p3300)nl edition
even as they say its impossible to get a wireless connection with an tmobile mda3 compact.....
with this rom i now have access to the wireless internet!
working great, just installed windows live messenger and it works like a charm!
im really happy that i now can access the wireless internet, very handy!
(must say this phone is unlocked after 1 year for free by tmobile)
