Hi,
I am having problems with File Management and Pocket Office and would appreciate some advice.
I currently have a load of word and excel docs in two sub-folders of the My Documents folder on the phone called (personal and business). I can see these docs fine from within Word and Excel and save new versions also.
I would prefer it if all my word and excel docs were kept on my storage card - preferrably still in the two sub-folders underneath the My Documents folder on the storage card. Unfortunately when I move them there, I can no longer see the documents in Word or Excel....
Any suggestions gladly received...
Gary

What I'm really wondering here is if there is a way to point the My Photos home screen item to the storage card rather than My Documents on the device.
Put the pictures in a folder called "Pictures" on your storage card.
Outerdepth showed me that ...
Meh, that doesn't work for me...I mean I have not done that yet but the camera saves to Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures...so to just up and take them all and dump them in a new folder called Pictures just doesn't cut it. As far as I know you can only select device or storage card for the camera and if you select storage card "\My Documents\My Pictures" is automatically created on the storage card. There should be a registry entry that controls where that object on the home screen "knows" to look for images...
So, in a word, that solution is: retarded...Microsoft should know that mobile devices do not yet have the storage capacity on the device that the average user would even need for their images. Storage cards are paramount in mobile devices for storing media. Why on earth would there not be a setting that could be changed in regards to this!? Heck! On the Windows OS one could point the My Documents folder to anything! Even a network share. Why would it be any different for the mobile version of Windows?

yep , its stupid but the way it is. How 'bout a script that would check every so often for your pics and move them for you to the Pictures folder needed for CPhotos? I've been pretty busy but I think OD made something like that. If he didn't, I could do something for you if you're not in a hurry.
Thanks but that's ok. Just too much "going out of the way" for something that should be simple. Microsoft really amazes me sometimes...
Something, somewhere in that OS is a command that lets the object on the home screen know where to find those pics. It's just a matter of finding it and changing it.

Im sorry...thats the fix file that will read from the "Pictures" file on your sd card
Hi there,
I've just receive my Touch HD, and been playing with it for a bit. I noticed by default Outlook stores my e-mails in my RAM, which I think is a waste of space and would like to use my Storage Card.
Unfortunately, I only seem able to save Attachments to my storage card, not my mail (and calendar, notes, etc.).
Is there any tweak or application that can help me with this? (basicly I would like to store everything that has to do with my Exchange/Outlook on my SC).
And lastly, assuming the above is possible, I would like to synch *all* my Exchange mailbox folders (& entire Calendar, etc) with everything to my phone. Unfortunately, it appears if for example I create a new folder in my Exchange mailbox, I will have to open Active Sync again, to select that folder to Synch.
So I'm asking if somehow I can set it up to always synch all folders, without me having to add any possible new folders.
Thanks in advance
if you want to store your mail on the SD card, you will need a registry editor and then modify & create those values :
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Inbox\Settings]
"PropertyPath"="\\storage card\\Mail"
"AttachPath"="\\storage card\\Mail\\attachment"
here it is just an example, but you can put waht eve you want for the path
Are you sure is it like yours or this?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Inbox\Settings]
"PropertyPath"="\storage card\Mail"
"AttachPath"="\storage card\Mail\attachment"
Hi
I'm looking for some way to store the onenote files in the storage card instead of \Application Data\Microsoft\OneNote Mobile.
I looked in the registry but didn't find the setting or something that helps me
Anybody here has any solutions?
Is there a solution to this? My Onenotes are filling up the small 219MB of main memory and I'm getting memory full message on phone. Plenty of space on storage card, how can OneNote use storage card space instead of main memory?
cant you guys just copy the files in File Explorer and make a OneNote folder in the Storage card root? I don't know how you can have them saved on SD card by default, but I don't think copying them to the card is a big deal after you write a new note.
I'm using the HTC supplied WM6.5 and the OneNote Mobile offers no options to open files anywhere but the main memory. One can copy the notes to SD card to make space, but there is no way OneNote mobile can open them from that source even using file explorer and choosing OneNote as program to open file. It appears a limitation of OneNote.
I've asked HTC for their opinion, siince they sold the phone with OneNote and a small main memory size. No reply so far.
Got a reply from HTC who suggest a hard reset and not a mention of Microsoft or OneNote Mobile! Wtf, thanks.
Wow that's pretty messed up. Why on Earth would they suggest a hard reset? Sounds like the person you spoke with has no idea what it is that you're looking to do. I hope you find a solution to your query.
I don't know of this helps, but I use the "Notes" app located within Outlook. There you can set the program to save notes to the SD card and it saves a lot of room. I don't know if your current program is needed for your particular needs, but maybe you could try it?
Actually I replied to HTC and told them I did the hard reset and it didn't work. (I didn't actually do it as I know its a waste of time!). They are looking at it further and I'm waiting on reply with ticket still unclosed on my support question.
Basically I'm trying to get them to agree OneNote isn't suited to their phone which they have sold me and see what they respond with. Still waiting
I have writen down the solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11100039#post11100039, hope it can make some helps.

This looks good for saving attachments to OneNote on SD card and works, thanks.
I used ms word and some notepad applications, saved some files, just want to try how WP7 handle documents. apps can save documents and saved successful, but I dont see there is anyway I can take them out since WP7 does not support storage.
how to take those documents out?
will any of the futures will solve problem like this or enable WP7 support external storage?
They will likely implement the transfer of office files via zune later. For now were stuck emailing them to ourselves....
I have been trying to find out if windows 7 mobile is able to support my excel spreadsheet. Some retailers say yes no problem, others say my formulas are to complex, no one has been able to try it for me. How can I find out if my spreadsheet can be read, edited and it calculates properly before I buy?
Does the handset make any differance or is the win 7 the same on all? I haven't purchased a handset as of yet as I am still trying to find out what apps I can use on them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I very much want excel and word support, pdf reader is a must - creator would be a real plus. Gps would be real nice too.
Thus far I am leaning towards the htc surround, it seems to be one of the better options in my limited market.
before you buy the device,I have to let you know that,unless you are using microsoft sharepoint,if not the office application is kind of useless.
me as a student,I can't even transfer my lecture note to the device and revise it anywhere.
so,think twice before you buy a device
onenote is the only thing that you can sync to skydrive. so you can edit them on the web as well.
excel and word on the hand has to be emailed back and forth if you don't have sharepoint.
MS did demo a skydrive client at CES, which will be part of mango update, released in fall 2011, so that will be the resolve, but till then email is the only way to do it.
Thanks for the tips, I can see more research is in order.
You don't have to email word and excel documents in order to make them usable on a WP7 device. You can also choose to sync these items with either dropbox - which has several clients for WP7 - or software solutions like homepipe. Both work fine, either way.
But it's truely just a workaround until MS will provide full skydrive support. Which should have been part of WP7 from day one in the first place.
Transfering isn't a big deal, I would like to put the spreadsheet template on the handset, add in the data as needed and have excel do the calculations. Perhaps a quarterly backup to the computer would be fine. Will the handset excel sync with the desktop app, filling in the fields or would that have to be done manually?

I never really tried that, because I hardly use excel. But the way I described works with word, so why should it be any different with excel? Just save the file created on your desktop PC to your dropbox folder (or any other folder you can sync with your handset), then download and open it from the client app on your device.

Well, I just looked into my zune & LG Quantum transfer options, and I could not find any options regarding transferring any type of files that are not music, video or podcasts. EDIT: NM, miss understood your question. I don't believe the spreadsheets will sync. But using dropbox, this wouldn't be an issue, as you would always be opening the dropbox copy of the spreadsheet.
RE: seeing whether or not your excel spreadsheet will run properly, I am not sure how private/personal your spreadsheet is, but you could email it to a user here to test it and report back to you if it works.
Would the dropbox copy be the same as the computer copy? Would someone be willing to try the template for me to see if it will run and calculate properly? That is a great idea! The template is about 1.5 mb. If anyone is willing to try this for me please PM me, thanks.
i use Excel a lot on my windows phone by using a budget spreadsheet I whipped up on my computer. I know there are multitudes of budgets apps but why do that when you can auto calculate averages, sums, and present them graphically with a simple spread sheet?
Now at the moment, the only way to get Office docs (Word or Excel) on the phone is via emailing your self or as others suggested dropbox or file server. The downside is changes made on the phone isn't synced back to the source. You have to email the changes to yourself.
Microsoft has demoed Skydrive integration coming in the Fall update. Changes made then will be automatically synced like One note is now.
As for formulas, my formulas and graphs work and show up on the phone just fine! However I am not sure if more complicated ones work as I was unable to edit an excel timesheet from my job on my phone (says unable to open this file created from earlier office version). I am willing to test this template for you.
Feel free to PM it to me.
Also one way to get office documents on the phone iis utilizing skydrive instead of dropbox
1, I mapped my skydrive "My Documents" folder as a network drive on my Windows 7 PC
2. I save all my office documents there. I can edit them, delete them, rename them just as any other folder.
3. One the phone you can access skydrive via the browser and download your files without needing drop box or 3rd party solutions. The downside is being unable to upload them back!
4. Do maintenance, email your changed document and replace it on the desktop yourself.
Hope this helps.
