i got my fav program on chome - HTC Excalibur

i got my fav program on chome

wow! how'd you do that?

Well he did it using the Welcome Center. I actually had this done a few days ago, after seeing it done on the Shadow. Here's how mine looks and I also attached a .cab that will let it install on your device. All you have to do to edit it so it shows your apps is go to HKLM/Security/Chome/DefaultSettings/CWelcomeCenter

p.s. I will take requests to modify the .cab to add paths to your specific applications, if you reply with the exact path to the application you want launched and the text you want it to show.

Thanks NRG.
do you mind posting the steps on how to manually change the reg keys here? so that you won't get disturbed

Here's the REG file I'm using. Edit the paths... then save it into a blank Notepad text file... rename to .reg and import it to your device's registry, using your favorite registry editor. OR... just look at it and go edit the registry yourself directly... Here it is:

did you make those icons or are they from something else?

Thank you for the reply NRG.

Nah... they're downloaded from the net. Hell... two of them are IPhone icons! LOL

very... very slick...
I noticed on your reg edit that you skipped "page 2", I imagine it contained previous data that you wished to leave unchanged....
... or is there a specific reason?

Hmm when i imput the text for the programs i wanted to load, it didnt seem to save after a softreset, also it wouldnt let me import a reg file, did you have to do something special for it?

great job OP, love it.

great addon - can anyone give good example of use w/icons?
ps. is there a way for this slider to show MRU icons?

I noticed that this is a modified version of the menu that I created for the T-Mobile Shadow (http://freddyreyes.com/forums/index.php?topic=285.0)
The only difference is that you added DefaultSettings\CWelcomeCenter to the registry path. In the Shadow you don't need that...interesting.
I may be able to port all the customizations that I created to the new wm6.1 interface.

You can also use the HKLM/Security/Chome/DefaultSettings/Settings. In fact you can duplicate the Settings to some other name and change the contents of both Settings and the new one accordingly.

Change Clock Font
Here's another tip. Copy \Windows\CHome_240x320.cpr to pc. Modify it to your hearts content, fontsize, fontstyle, etc, etc. I changed my clock face to digital, moved the date position, moved the wi-fi position and reduce the pane size smaller (take a look at my avatar).
Should you messed up this file, simply delete i from your device on \Windows. The original will be restored since it is in ROM
Hope this helps. But I really appreciate anyone who can add ElecontWeather to the clock's pane
Thanks

You're right. Only difference is... I didn't work with "CLinks3", like you did it. So I had to use the WelcomeCenter which is kind of useless anyway. Kavana did it with the Settings plugin... I guess there's several ways to do it.

Yeah, Kavana already release a utility that does it for you. I released a .cab that did it, a while ago.. The "JavoZ" cab. Also, rickwyatt included that utility in his latest ROMs.

[NEW] Kaiser HTC Home v.2.0.720719 BW and Color

OEM supplied by Schaps. This version already integrated in his last ROM.
Not like previous version, this version Profile Tab already work correctly. No need to do anything. I have use it for several days and I dont notice any notifications queue issue or wild vibrate at all.
But I do change the following:
-Installation directory change to \HTCHome instead of \Windows
-To get Brightness shortcut working, the same patch as previous version applied.
-The same patch applied to enable the Tab Setting through registry.
Other than that Nothing. Much better version than v1.5
Color version uploaded!!!!
If you are ROMcooker, download the htchome.dll for rom cooker .
Install sdkcert.cab if you have not done so.
There are about 100 pages of discussion about v1.5. Lets not repeat what have been discussed over there like: Clicking left most mail icon will take you to MMS, how to change music tab tolaunch HTC Audio Manager, and so on and so on. I dont plan to follow up closely on these thread as I think this version is very good already. Should there be any fix, change, etc please refer to the respective post.
Enjoy
Is this better than the one you had released with your kaiser skin?
Currently i am using that, is it worth me updating?
Thanks
Bennec, the one you are using is v1.5.xxxx. Very earlier and uncomplete version that has been tweaked to make it reliable enough to be used. This version is a new build with the profile tab working and additional features in the contact tab thatenable you to select what number ina contact for the speed dial. Definately worthed.
Can you post a version where the files do go in the windows directory? I want to cook this in, but not have duplicates.

you can, just use windiff on the SYS and OEM folders of your kitchen, the dump folder is created by processing these 2 folders, so any file dups will be in there BEFORE you run buildos.exe.
add you package, then run windiff ont he SYS and OEM folders, it will find the file duplicates, and delete the ones that ARE NOT from your new package!!

Maybe I should have been more clear.
When creating a rom, all files will be placed in the windows directory, if you need files in a different directory like the cab posted above you will have to use initflashfiles which just copy the files to a new folder, then you will have duplicates. I just don't want 2megs of photos in two spots.
Garphical Anomolies
@schen you need to swap some of the icons for my fixed ones!!
please Download this Original Icons Fix and add it to you package. 2 of the black and white icons (Music and People) dont react properly when you select them.
that link fixes them!! (it is not just yours, it is a common problem with all htc home plugins!!!)

Your question makes no sense then!
When you COOK this in obviously you would remove the version you already have in the ROM therefore you would not have the duplicates.
Also if you just created an package out of the cab above you will get NO initflashfiles therefore the package will install to the windows directory!!!

You still don't understand. My problem is NOT buildos failures. I don't want duplicates when the rom is complete. Any time you use a initflashfile you will have duplicates in the finished rom. That is what they are for. Again the problem is not with duplicates in the OEM and SYS. If you go back and check my posts you will see I helped you with this exact problem. I know how to create a rom!!!! What I don't know how to do is edit the dll file to redirect it to look in the windows directory for the png files. Hence why I'm posting.

Yes you do get a initflashfile that copies all the png files to HTCHome. See attached.
schen, installed & everything working fine, except for one, am unable to use the hardware navigational pad when accessing music tab, from there u can't proceed to go up, go to ff, rw or play button.
Touchscreen function (for all of the above ff, rw & play tabs) in music tab is working though.
thanks anyway.

Well then my answer to your question would be to remove the initflashfile, then everything would get installed to the windows directory and since you have no need for shortcuts, this would be fine!!!
been using this for a while and saw the new version a while ago. has option of more when u go to the 4 day detail in weather. fonts seem nicer and all. looks like a good upgrade to 1.5 Bennec83 irc bro

Just tried that. It doesn't work without the png files in the HTCHome directory. I guess we can't have everything.
The special dll for installing n Windows directory uploaded. Use that dll.
On the subject of weather plugin.
I am not sure why is there a need for a pre-configured xml file. Anyway, you need a gui to choose the city. Why not have a gui where you could enter the data which is stored on xml file. I suppose rather than sending an entire xml line when communicating with xml service, build an xml file base on the data entered via gui.
As I understand it, the DLL was just edited using a hex editor as \HTCHome and \Windows has the same number of characters, it sounds like it wasn't a decompile thing or something like that.
I'm not at home at the mo so I can't check but if you load the DLL up into a hex editor (winhex?) then replace all the \HTCHome text with \Windows, you should be good to go.
This is just my uderstanding though of what I've read in the previous....saga
Smiffy.

What if there is no InitCmd.ccs file? Trying to use TMO WM6 ROM. This is the same problem I had trying to use the other kitchens (I thought it was me).
Boo Boo looks almost like a clean ROM:
Tried anyways only removing the handango in hand links (two files) from the rom and built RUU_signed.nbh with os only. Flashed fine with no issues, but most T-Mobile specific apps/settings did not load and do not show in the startmenu. TMO homescreens, ringtones, favorites, etc did not get placed/installed correctly. MyFaves (HTC App) seems to have installed correctly although it tries to load TMO homescreen which is now in the Windows directory, TMO Internet Settings loaded, but the startmenu is laid out differently. Most TMO Customizations just got installed in Windows directory where they will not install (homescreens, ringtones, etc. don't work under Windows directory). The files are there, but the phone runs as if they are missing (almost like running the Brightpoint ROM). The only TMO customizations Visible are the Startup and Shutdown screens, and winwap. Somehow the TMO customizations did not get loaded, but everything seems to work fine.
Recommend the following changes to make the kitchen more universal.
added command to DumpOS.bat
ren *os.nb os.nb
changed filename in BuildOS.bat to os.nb
Just an idea since not all ROM's have the same XX_os.nb filename.
ROM Cooking Hints?
Hi Ricky, and thanks a lot for such a good work, and sharing your knowledge !!!
A couple of questions around ROM cooking ...
- How does ROM size affect WM? I mean, adding files, apps, etc. to the rom makes WM having less memory to run programs or store files, or run slower, for example?
- I guess adding more and more files might create a ROM that does not fit in the Excalibur and might break it if flashed. How can we know when to stop adding stuff?
Thanks!!

Thanks!!

if you add stuff to the rom it will slow down the rom but not to much & if you take things out of the rom it will get faster
and if you add to much software then the kitchen will crash
How do you remove programs? What all do you need to delete to safely remove it from your phone?
Did my first attempt at cooking. IT was successful, and I am using it know, but some changes, such as files I added to the InitCmd.tgz worked, and were extracted fine. Other tweaks, such as changing a CPanel's contents and adding media to the windows folder did not work, and came out as if I hadn't changed anything at all.
Do I need to make Cpanel changes in two places (Initcmd and somewhere else?) Is there another step to making files "stick"?

Ok, I don't get it. Rick, or anyone, can you explain the work flow a little more? I can't find a user.hv, or a default.hv in the dump contents, nor do I know what to do when I do find them. I see there is a assembler/disassembler toolset in the kitchen, but it fails to find any .hv's either. Is there anything missing in the steps above?

you have to unhide system files what you have to do is move user.hv and default.hv to to edit user.hv&default.hv folder press disassemble.dat it the make to more files called HKCU.reg and HKLM.reg now download emediter freeware and save HKCU.reg and HKLM.reg UTF-16LE Now move HKCU.reg to notepad2.exe edit it then press save do the same for HKLM.reg then what you do is make a dump folder then press Reassemble.dat if there is no errors in the hv files then you will find user.hv and default.hv in the dump folder that you just made if the is an error it command prompt will tell you were the error is once dont move the hv files back to you dump folder
I think I got all that! Thanks a bunch.
Rickwyatt,
When I run Disassemble.bat it tells me it can't find the default.hv and user.hv file and then it tells me that there is no regedit4.txt file in the Resources directory.
I checked the locations of the files, and there isn't a regedit4.txt file but the default.hv and user.hv files are right where they are supposed to be. Any ideas?
[edit]
Nevermind... unchecked the "hidden" box on the two files... it still doesn't find the regedit4.txt that it's claiming is missing
Ok, so I successfully was able to use this to mod the 1.6 Rose ROM, but I noticed that the InitCmd.ccs looks far different. How do I edit the menu items in this ROM?
Specifically I am wanting to remove a bunch of stuff I don't use from the ROM:
- Orneta Calculator
- OMAP Clock
- Getting Started
- SMS Tool Pack
- Light Config
- Messenger
- Streaming Media
- Windows Live
- Resco Explorer
- CHome
Also if anyone can post the list of files that I would need to delete out of the exploded ROM for the above, that would be great... especially CHome.
I do want to give this ROM serious props. I love it! I just want to pare down the things I personally have no interest in using, but I don't want to delete the wrong files, and/or not remove the menu items in the ROM for them.
Rickwyatt,
The Disassemble.bat file keeps crashing. It tells me that regedit4.txt not found in the Resources directory. It creates a hkcu.txt and an hklm.txt file though.
open hkcu.txt hklm.txt then add REGEDIT4 to the top line then save rename hkcu.txt hklm.txt to hkcu.reg hklm.reg
New HTCRT.exe version 1.1.4
windows media player playing not smooth.
One bug in my own rom (base on your kitchen): Windows media player playing not smooth. How can i fix it, what reg can i edit?

Looking to dump a lot of the same things. If I remove them from the "dump" folder, is that the end of it or do registry settings need to be removed as well. First time doing something like this, thanks for the help and patience.
Instead of going through this tedious process.. why not start with a very light version of the ROM and just add what you need ?

Registries for CHome?

Can someone please post an exported registry for HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CHome and HKLM\Security\CHome\DefaultSettings? It would be much appreciated in next couple of hours, thanks in advance.

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question related to the registry. I'm going to reflash my phone after editing the pagepool... sticking with Ricky's v24 rom also. I don't want to have to go through and redo all of the customizations that I've done, and have backed up all of my icons, cpr, and bronzeres.dll files. I also exported both CHome registry portions (that Showaco originally asked for at the start of this thread).
My question is after the flash and installing all relevant apps, as well as copying over the icons, cpr, and bronzeres files... can I just use the resulting .reg files to restore all of my panels on the homescreen?

Yes, you should be able to import the registry after flashing and doing any other setup to chome(or before setup). Just to make sure, try importing before flashing to see if your .reg files are correct and working. I've had trouble using .reg files from Mobile Registry Editor and Phm registry editor, but thats just my experience. I use CERegEditor or Resco to export/import reg files now.
Thanks... I used Resco and it worked like a charm...

Rhodium start menu icons help

I'm using Dutty's 2.3 Xtreme ROM. The startmenu is based on the Rhodium roms (looks like the program tab, but with nicer icons ). However, the good-looking icons are only those that came with the rom, for example WMPlayer, settings, file explorer, etc. When you add a shortcut from lets say TomTom, it looks all crap with jagged edges. It's seems the iconholder upscales the icon or something so it's no longer at it's native resolution. I would like to be able to change the icon used for a certain shortcut myself to perhaps a higher resolution alternative.
It seems the used icon is controlled bij strings in HKLM\software\HTC\Manila. The string's name is the .exe used in the shortcut. It contains a file location to \windows\MPI_xxx.qct (\windows\MPI_wmplayer.qct, \windows\MPI_camera.qct, etc.). I know this, because when I change the path in lets say the wmplayer.exe string to that of the file explorer MPI file, the icon changes in the start menu. However, when I make a new string with a stringname for tomtom (tomtom navigator.exe) and make it's value the same as the fileexplorer, nothing happens...
So... help? I don't know what to try next due to my limited knowledge on the subject. Who can help me devise a way to use custom icons in the new startmenu?
You have to use the full path, not just the file name. Also, you have to use quotes.
For example: I wanted Resco File Explorer to use HTC's explorer icon, so I created a new string with the name:
"\Program Files\Resco Explorer\Explorer.exe" (quotes included)
And value:
\windows\MPI_fexplorer.qtc (no quotes here)

Yes... Thanks! Can I use it in WM 6.5? Just want to know because I dont want to do a hard reset when I fail.
I change my program icon directly in the program.exe file. this way both from startmenu and programs show the new icons. use resource hack to do it. you can also hack into the installation cab and change it there. so every time you change rom and reinstall, the new icon is there. just my way......need helpon that you can pm me

Now my only problem is the icons in Manila "Program" I want to change it to High Quality Icons.

[6.5] Titanium plugins - overview for wvga users

A couple of weeks ago I made the switch from 6.1 to 6.5...because imo Winmo 6.5 is definitely an improvement over 6.1. The new today screen - also known as Titanium - is truly a joy to work with.
I know there's a thread for titanium plugins at the dev section of xda, but I had to go through a lot of trouble before getting them to work. So..I'm starting this thread where you can easily get the plugins.
For ease of use, you can download the files in this thread..Or you can go to the specific thread for further notice.
Here we go
1. First things first
When installing plugins, ALWAYS disable titanium.
Install MortScript on your device.
Install Chome Editor by showaco
2. The plugins
Artesea Twitter - Update and keep track of twitter!
Install by opening the 'Install.mscr' in the zip
CommManager - Turn on/off phone signal // wifi // bluetooth // data connection
Install the cab. When running titanium you can setup this plugin.
Titanium Weather - Lets you keep track of the weather
Extract the rar and install cab. C/P the 'TitaniumWeather.mscr' over the original at Program Files\TitaniumWeather (may be different). To change the location, visit accuweather and enter your respective location.
e.g. Haarlemmermeer, Netherlands --> EUR|NL|NL008|HAARLEMMERMEER
CLauncher // CSettings // CGames - Let's you launch applications in titanium
I've customized these 3 plugins to my own needs. It has 3 launchers with each 9 pages.
You can change the settings of these with Chome Editor.
e.g. You can change the condensed page - plugin label with this. Thus making it possible to enter a category of apps to your own needs.
Don't forget to enable the page 6 to 9 with Chome.
--> Install the 3 cabs and play with it in Chome!
Taskanium - The plugin I use the most on a daily base. Lets you view or add tasks in titanium.
Extract the rar. C/P Taskanium folder in your Program Files folder. Run 'TaskaniumInstall' on your device.
JMLStocks - Let's you view stocks in Titanium.
Extract the rar and C/P to your device or storage card. Run 'JMLStocksInstall.mscr'
Favorite People Plugin - The name speaks for itself
Install the cab.
Windows Live - Standard Live bar for titanium, which ofcourse is already included in wm6.5
I didn't get this one to work at first. But after playing with Chome Editor I've found a solution to get it work. Change the value for 'DISABLED' to '0'.
Ofc there are other plugins available for titanium, but I don't use them :x
I would like to thank those people who made these plugins available for us...THANK YOU!
ps. If there are other plugins you would like to add here, you can pm me so I can add it to the list.
Since I reached the max of 8 files per upload..
Here is the last one...so far
-edit-
Post #10 has another couple of plugins added to this list by GutsyTripod.
These plugins are:
CNitrogen
COffice
CFacebook
TitaniumNotification
JMLToday
Further info about these plugins can be found in that specific post.
Thanks GutsyTripod!
For the facebook icon, you should edit your Titanium_480x800.cpr file, which can be found in the Windows folder of your device. Replace the facebook part with this piece of code overhere.
Code:
<!-- CFacebook layout templates -->
<Layer ID="CFacebookExpanded" Visible="False" Width="480" Height="164" Clip="False">
<Layer ID="Page" Clip="False">
<!-- Large icon in upper right -->
<Image ID="PICTURES" Left="376" Top="-26" Width="86" Height="86" ScaleStyle="Stretch" />
<Text ID="TEXT1" Left="40" Top="45" Width="340" Height="42" FontFamily="Century Gothic" FontSize="10" FontStyle="Regular" Wrap="False" VerticalAlignment="Top" Trimming="EllipsisCharacter">
<TextStage TextOffsetType="TextOffsetDropBottomRight" Color="#00000000" TextOffset="1" BlurFactor="3" Alpha="1.0" />
<TextStage TextOffsetType="TextOffsetNone" Color="#FFFFFFFF" />
</Text>
<Text ID="TEXT2" Left="40" Top="80" Width="430" Height="60" FontFamily="Century Gothic" FontSize="8" FontStyle="Regular" Wrap="True" VerticalAlignment="Top" Trimming="EllipsisCharacter">
<TextStage TextOffsetType="TextOffsetDropBottomRight" Color="#00000000" TextOffset="1" BlurFactor="3" Alpha="1.0" />
<TextStage TextOffsetType="TextOffsetNone" Color="#FFFFFFFF" />
</Text>
Ofcourse you should change the font (in my case Century Gothic) to the font of your choice. Default is Tahoma I Guess. Remember that this is only for portrait mode!
Many thanks ive been trawling the forums for a couple of days looking for Titanium plugins and the best way to install them, and here it is ....sorted! Many thanks

For the essex place, it's working (lovely 21 degrees )
Did you overwrite the TitaniumWeather.mscr' from the zip over the one at your program files/titaniumweather folder? (or where ever you've installed titanium weather)
That should fix it normally
It´s allways nice to see a thread like this. Very handy!
i didnt copy to mscr, works fine now!! thanks veruy much so helpful
More Cabs !
Here is a list of cabs that also work on the HD.
Plugins for Nitrogen Player, Microsoft Office, Facebook and text/email Notifications.
The jml today plugin is a replacement to the simple clock. probably best to disable it if using jml instead.
The cHome Editor is a must. It allows you to reorganise which order you want your items to appear. you can also disable/enable panels.
All tested and working. (except facebook doesn't seem to load on Miri's Roms for some reason.
taskanium does not install for me :[ when i trie to install it, it gets an error :[ im running dutty's 6.5 r9 rom. and yes my titanium is off and i have mortscript, etc. just this plugin doesnt work for me :[

Even More Cabs !
Here is some cabs to change the icons of your titanium weather, all by Showaco.
just install, then when you go to settings in titanium weather go to "display options" at the bottom left corner to change the icon style.
If anyone has problems with weather not updating or they just get red x's instead of weather then you might need to add in the below mortscript file.
I dont have a cab but you just need to unzip it with your file explorer into Program Files\TitaniumWeather
Chocolate, Battenberg, Tiramisu (piece of cake!)

Ehm - why don't you refer to the JMLToday-Thread? The current version is 5.3 - and with much more WVGA-Skins (.plg-Converter makes it possible )
and JMLStocks - you can use the cab from the post - so you don't need a zip.

thx, update is working now.
but, another two problem appeared...
if i open the chmenu editor i can modify the path to the icons
somehow everywhere is writen "Program File" instead of "Programme". seems the plugin doesn't recognize my german wm6.5 correctly.
i corrected that so far, but then i get another problem
if i update, i have no icones. only the X - icon not found
if i open the editor again the path to the icons is shown as
"\Programme\Titanium Weather\\Programme\Titanium Weather\plgFiles\Spil\03.png"
the fat marked is too much. why? any ideas?
i think i solved the problem. i edited every single reg entry manually. now i have the symbols.
it appears that the tool doesn't work with a german wm6.5 100%.
a) everytime the path should contain "programme" there is a "program file"
b) init string für "internet" is called "the internet" > no connection
c) the path to the images is \Programme\Titanium Weather\plgFiles\Spil\03.png altough the images are stored in \Programme\Titanium Weather\Spil\03.png >> no images. i simply copied them to the "wrong" folder, instead of editing all reg entries.
d) somehow a part of the path is duplicated (see post #18)
e) i tried to modify the registry with the chome editor 1.6b > doesn't work for all settings, some have to be done with a normal reg editor.
You will find a German Version of Titanium Weather in htc-developers.de.
And yes - it's a problem with the icons in a ROM, which is not WWE. Needs double installation
