I tried this myself using the WinCe installer and tried the install on both my storage card and the device itself and neither worked. When i installed it on my storage card. It didn't even create the folders on the storage card. So in uninstalled it and re-installed to my device. This time it installed correctly, but when i ran the .exe it said " this program cannot run on this device"
I'm using kavana's WM 6.1 (13) ROM, just to let you know

Cannot install CAB files

I have some apps which come in the form of CAB files which used to install perfectly on my XDA II and Motorola MPX.
But they don't install on my new XDA IIs....
any ideas why? and how to rectify?
do you get as far as the screen that says something like " this program is not desinged for windows mobile 2003 SE" or something like that
no. I do not even get to that screen. I know what you are trying to say.
when I click on the cab file, nothing happens.
anyway, I have solved this problem by using a cab installer application. All my cab files install fine now.
But I wonder how I lost the built in capability to install cab files...

Installing CAB from EXT ROM

I have created an EXT ROM put in there the T MOBILE UK FIXED.CAB file taht I kow works when run as a seperate CAB files. I see it come up as being RUN on the customisation but it doesnt install the settings lie it does as a stand alone CAB. What am I doing wrong I have checked and double checked the config file to make sure the path isc orrect and the format of the command is right.
I've been caught out forgetting that some progs needed an input from me during installaion when putting them in the ext rom. Long shot I know.
I did think that but only thing the CAB I am using need when you install them manually is this is from an unknown source are you sure you want to install so you select YES and the it asks where you want them installed.
I didnt think the unknown sourse quiestion would apply when installing from EXT ROM or OEMOPERATORS.

You are GOD I just click the link on your SIG to the XML & PROXML thing and I have the XML file for config of T-Mobile. SO dont need the CAB forit.
Just a quick question well a couple as I am learning this as I go.
1) What diffrence between XML and PROXML files?
2) In the XML file its Arcsoft MMS settings is that the defualt MMS app in WM6 or is that a 3rd party MMS APP. I only ask cause on some roms TEXt and MMS are under one section in the official ROM they are Sepereated?

HELP ME!!

ok i have a excalibur and i have wm6 on it and im trying install apps on it it is unlocked but i have no clue what a cab file is or how to install it or how to run it is there anyone that can help me??? [email protected] THANK YOU
Generally, you install the cab file to your PC desktop, hook up your phone to your PC via Activesync, and after the sync operation, click the "Explore" icon in Activesync to open the folder with the contents of your phone, drag the cab file icon from your desktop into the new folder you've opened and it's on your phone. Then click on that program file in "File Explorer" on your phone and it will install onto your phone.
Generally, one posts with a topic that is useful and gives a summary of the problem, not "HELP ME!!"
Thanks
ok i have done that and it still wont install some sights say i need netcf 2.0 and i tried installing it and found out i have netcf 3.5 or something like that?

ive never heard of this but I also have tried the import/export feature and it doesnt work so i prefer to just copy paste files because that does work.
You need to have Wisbar Advance Desktop 2 installed for it work.
If you have the latest version of WAD2 installed, the export function works and produces a .wadesktop file as the output which is a bit like a .cab file.
Regards
I already have Wisbar Advance Desktop 2 installed but it doesn't work when I tap on a .wadesktop
it doesnot work for me too

Sure....what exact files are you downloading? You should be able to tell when you're downloading them that the extension is ".cab"...as long as that's the case, just put the .cab file on your phone and click it to run from there.

in other words. Don't unpack the "cab" files on your computer or phone... just transfer the entire "cab" package to your sd card or phone. Use file explorer (on your phone) to navigate where you have saved the cab files. Select the cab file and the installation will begin
aaand this too just for the noobness haha.. if you've d/l'd a .cab to your pc and have winrar installed on it.. winrar will show the .cab's icon as that little set of books like a .rar file.. they're both archives, but the .cab doesn't need unpacking.. it's like a windows mobile version of a .exe for the pc.. just saying, i did that too at 1st.. a loong time ago.. haha
just copy and paste to your phone storage and you are all set
