FIX for lost settings (passwords, BT pairing, etc.)? - P3600 ROM Development

I've installed MARY 3.7.1 and some other cabs. After a soft reset it was normal that BT pairing, passwords and the GPRS settings were gone or didn't work.
By accident I tried an old CAB from mun_rus calls BT_DUN.cab, I don't install this one normally when I reflashed my device.
I thought the solution was in MARY 3.7.1, but after uninstalling BT_DUN.cab I've found out that the settings were lost again.
The CAB is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=39883&d=1180164571
Can someone check this with a ROM with the new XIP like MARY, PDAVIET, schaps, etc.?

Hmm, at first glance you actually seem to be right which is good news for many among us
I had never installed that CAB before, and I learned to live with lost passwords etc. (never got around to trying the workaround), but that's all about to change with this easy fixSome more tests have revealed that in my case the "first glance" must have been sheer luck
I mainly checked whether wifi passwords were required again, and tried uninstalling/re-installing/rebooting/resetting/... but all I can conclude is that only sometimes the settings are preserved and still most of the times the settings are lost - this regardless of the aforementioned CAB.
Well, I haven’t lost hope yet, though. Maybe someone will figure it out, but the sooner the better

MANY THANKS,
It's seems works fine...
Many thanks again...

I did a couple of times, but I'm not in the position right now to buy one. Priority is my wife, kids and moving to another house right now, but a Corvette from 1966 is a great car ..... beautiful!

I already fixed this problem in my latest ROM (version 1.2).
I created a modified XIP and changed some buetooth drivers to verify A2DP still works.
I will create a personal ROM to verify if this solutions works too!
Would be great if this is another solution to fix the problem.

Ok, I found something!
I opened the rom the ausdim WM6.1 and Mary rom 3.7 and took the files of the *. hv ausdim and copy for the 3.7 rom Mary!
The two rom´s are the same version and don't have any trouble copy, and I noticed that once the 3.7 rom Mary no longer loses the passwords or the codes of wifi!
I think the problem is in the register!
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
But where???
Translated by Google, sorry!

The problem is in the XIP section, it is in the nk.exe (kernel).
Ausdim uses an older XIP version which does not lose settings.
The only problem was the broken A2DP. I managed to fix this problem and Ausdim will include my solution to fix A2DP in his ROMs.
Upcoming ROMs from me and Ausdim will no longer lose settings.
I hope other ROM-cookers decide to use the older kernel too.

So if it is the XIP that matters we cant have a fix right ? Roms using the new XIP are doomed to have crappy A2DP

As I already said, I managed to fix A2DP using the old bootkernel (nk.exe part of XIP).
This works for wm6.1 and wm6.0.
There is no reason good reason to use the new kernel in stead of the old kernel.

As i say 4 months before here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342269
the old xip section (nk.exe) is working better with trinity 400mhz.
All my rom in this 4 months is builded with old nk.exe and i tell to cookers to use them to.
I dont see any reason to use the new (dopod) nk.exe with that very iportant bug.
No problems and nothing, nk.exe is the kernel from the device no nead to update that in the future.
The only problem it was in a2dp sound but after the fix from adewidt (Thanks again) the sound it is perfect!
Thank's

I'll try your 1.2 too, but I think the DEVICE ID of TomTom will change again (like it did whenm we switched from WM5 (official) to WM6 (DOPOD))

Successful ported old good xip.(No corruption after any soft-reset at all)

First i whant to say thank's.
To Bepe , Mun_rus , ervius , dutty , tadzio.
From his tool's and help.
Regarding these thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340885
(I search a solution for that problem about a month ago).....
I manage to port the old XIP section (First wm6 leaked rom) to the new Dopod rom.
Now when sometime's edit you registry and soft reset the ppc No pass lost no mail acount's disapear's No connection setting's lost and other's few think's....
So from cooker's the only think you have to do is to place the ROM folder in your kitchen and build your ROM.
The Os.nb is in Greek but that doesn't affect your rom cause the only think taked from Os.nb is the XIP section and some other info (Like build day (os.nb have the day to: 11/05/07) ,Rom version (os.nb have version: 03.10) on boot etc..).
So when you change your ROM folder with that and build you ROM you have the same ROM like before but with other XIP section.
Do not flash these in your device cause you end with a full Greek language OS!
These is only from Cooker's!
Also the Os.nb have the big_storage function (Merge extended_rom).
Os version: 5.2.1933
Build date: 11/05/07
Rom version on boot: 03.10
Thank's

in FAMAN 4.0, but it's the only one ?
edit: my device is HTC P3600, CID unlocked with pof tool, running faman 4.0 no mail, gprs, wifi, bt, settings disappear !
I have used FAMAN 4.02 and it has the "settings lost bug". But I havnt tried 4.0
This bug is absolutely awful ! I can confirm it is present in bepe 0.79 and schap's 4.30 ROMS. It will be very good if someone confirm this xip patch is working, and which ROM does support it.
I have configured 4 e-mail accounts in my phone, and when i lose them with that screen-fu**ing bug I just want to kill myself! The last time I have not stylus-reset the phone but remove the battery to restart and i had luck, but i don't know. Now I have configured the a <soft reset> function on one of the hw buttons, and I'm waiting to see if I can gracefully restart the phone when the bug happens again.

it really works after two weeks testing, comfirmed
Ax3l and MARY has the bug too. Only Faman 4.0 ?
Someone knows any "World Wide" EN release ? And can someone really confirm this XIP is fixing exactly this bug ! FAMAN ?

One solution
Hey, this night this bug crush me again. But I was prepared
Settings > Buttons > Button 1 (Hold) : <Soft-Reset>
The buttons are working, and all my settings are in place with the soft reset
If you use the hard stylus-reset, it is 80% sure your passwords are gone...
I care no more. I hope this will be a temporary solution.
BR
Milen
This worked for me an I also got a bonus from it!
I used this xip section and not only did it cure my disappearing email accounts and lost connection settings but it also changed my device id back to an old id allowing me use the TomTom navigation program I purchased a while back. Each time I updated to a rom with a newer build, the device id changed. TomTom keeps a database on their server of device ids and product codes. When you load tomtom software onto a new device or a newer rom on your current device you have to reactive the tomtom maps (by typing in the product code that came with your map purchase). If the device id and product code don't coincide with what tomtom has on their server the activation fails and you cannot use the maps. I already used up all my chances to update my device id online and also had tomtom update it manually for me one time. I spent between $200 and $300 buying the software and paying for updated maps. I was disappointed that I was unable to use it just because the device id changed when I upgraded roms. I'm glad I no longer have to revert back to an older rom just to use tomtom.

not working solution for me
After all these contradicting reports and my own experience with the original Dopod rom, I get the impression that it's not only related to the xip, but must be linked to some other circumstance.
Some people lose their settings over and over, while others like me are mostly unharmed. I have just once lost some settings in my htc home, while password and WPA-keys were never harmed.
Have fun!
I read on FInixNOver Rom post that it does not lost settings. But I will try it by myself, because I do not believe in this kind of comentaries, where everything is sou beauty.. hehe

Fixed 12.20.2007 - Schaps 4.01 - No Ext Rom! [Super Storage]

My Stripped Rom originally Crashed w/ KarhU's Benchmark Test.
I think these Roms were built w/ HyperCore's xx_os.nb which also crashed KarhU's test.
Which in both cases may have been the result of not deleting the OEM_FLASHDRV.DLL
I have since followed matts suggestion:

It might be the xx_os.nb I used.
Don't know if that's a bad thing, good thing, or otherwise.
Either way the Rom works great for me.
Can you explain how you did?
Tried to do to 4.22 but I have errors
Sorry Guys
I am having ridicules internet trouble.
I am going to give up on trying to upload a fixed Full.
Here is all I did to get rid of the Extended_Rom
Get the Ruu_signed.nbh
NbhExtract to NbDump (Tadzio’s Tools)
Replaced Schaps xx_os.nb with Bepe’s (rename if needed)
And then NbBuild.
Used Dutty’s ‘Nb to Nbh.’
And then Flashed.
That’s the simple way, and it worked for me first time.
I actually did a lot more after that to fix shortcuts that pointed to ExtRom, and moved contents of ExtRom to xx_os.nb.dump.
And if you really want to clean it up, you can edit the Registry to reflect changes.
no worries, I stick with 4.01 standard for now.
Added to 1st Post My Stripped Version of 4.01 Full
(Internet Sharing Works)
What did you strip and what did you leave from the full? I don't use all the apps in it but like having some available 'just in case'. Thanks for the effort
I tried the untouched pdaviet version but had a couple issues with it, but will try your modified version.
Keyboard is back to looking presentable!!! Thanks algasystems. Hey sanjay I still have the Windows Mobile Lawn boot screen though... It looks the same as the pdaviet rom I think... I'm not gonna reflash back to check but i'm pretty sure.
I guess it's a good thing you started this thread... the vulcan was probably going to loose it any day now.
I'm using the 4700 rom editor for mods, what are you using.
Thanks for saving me the work of cleaning up the rom!!!
Later..
Chemong: I wish you good luck, but don't believe you will find my variation fixes any issues such as battery problems. This is just a cleaner version of the same rom.
MannyMania: Interesting that you are still seeing the lawn. Here's the boot screen I now see. Oh well, at least the keyboard is fixed. I don't intend to do anymore to this since it now is good enough until Kozhura returns but hopefully others will take this and improve it.
I've used Vivi's kitchen in the past, but for simple changes such as these, I just use mamaich's tools directly. I credited Chamine in earlier posts for the boot splash change tips.
Hope this works for you.
Regards.
Just flashed to HX4700 PDAVIET wm6.1 and the keyboard looks familiar to me, thanx.

Just a note:
The first time I tried the PDAViet version, I saw the rather undesireable bootsplash. I tried re-flashing the previous WM6.0, which did not un-do the bootsplash.
I found that the only way to get the original blue and white HP bootsplash is to re-flash your device with the official WM5 upgrade. If you don't have the WM5 upgrade, I bet any of the WM2003 ROM update patches will yield the same results (just visit HP's website and search for your device to visit the downloads).

Interesting. If people are seeing the PDAVIET splash and I'm not, your explanation may be why. When I reflashed my 4700 with the latest ROM, my previous flash may not have been undone. So thank you for the experiments.
Because of the capabilities of the 4700 (e.g. no phone), I believe this ROM can be made even leaner. I will try to repeat your steps and fix the flash the next time.
Do you think reflashing with a Kozhura WM6 ROM would accomplish the same thing? Even the thought of reverting back to the HP WM5 disaster causes me to shudder.

Thank you Vivi. I've found your kitchen to be excellent as well and a great help for ROM tuning. I also read your tips including ones to remove the RGU files, but PDAVIET already had these deleted so I did not need to remove them. I still feel though that for the 4700 capabilities, there are other files that can be removed to free up more space. I will experiment more to see what I can do with this.

this ROM is design for P3600 so we should change header ,so that it can flash in P3600i

I am pretty sure I said that....but I am only going to try it if BT is working....I am not going to bother re-flashing if it isn't as it doesn't suit my needs then.

Hmmm the same problem I had with PDAVIET38, apparently there is a BT fix in the Extended ROM, yet when I extracted the nbh to modify the header for use on P3600i it did not show any Extended ROM.
Possibly this is creating a problem with the BT fix, hence we are getting hardware errors on P3600i.
Could be the same on this build.
Poggiami....I am assuming you managed to flash it to your P3600i ?????
If you did....once it loaded for the first time....did it autoconfigure from the Extended Rom?
Good thx

Hmm thanks poggiami, I extracted the nb's from the nbh last night and again...there is no extended ROM using nbhextract. Might try dumping the ROM using one of the cooking sets and see what happens then.
I notice that in V36 & V37 there doesn't appear to be an extended ROM as once it flashes that is it...nothing more happens. Have you had any response in the PDAViet forum?
I post some question strat from V38,but PhamQuang didn`t reply anymore
Great work
I think it's a great work from Quang as he always have the latest core for Trinity if there is a new core out.
Quang is the admin of PDAViet forum or manager... therefore he's busy... but I am sure he's listening to the comments...
Hope this rom got bluetooth working...
Can someone test this rom and let us know if BLUETOOTH is working? and please explain how did you test and under what condition it does not work.
I confirm, BT A2DP is working fine as it did < ~ v.34 (I cant remember). the last few roms have had the BT pairing problem. In this rom, it is solved and BT A2DP works flawlessly as ususal, P3600.

It worked fine for me, but I ran into the Passwords being lost bug, so flashed back to my favorite. (see sig) Otherwise, very fast, and clean.

has anyone gotten this to work with their Uni? need something like this. tried WMWifiRouter but its not free.
Tomals V10 n V12 have it,
+ it works
Hey thanks alot. I cant run those roms as my 64MB Uni cant handle them but they are nice. I was hoping to get it working on one of these other ones.
I have been playing with Thing's and Tomal's latest kitchens trying to make the rom for me. Need more info on cooking though.
Simon_WM, would you be able to provide a cab file for the software to enable the UNI to act as a Wifi Spot please? Thanks.
er....,
i think i've got the package...
ill hav a look for it and upload later

I have installed Toma V10 and works all perfect, of course not as fast as a 6.1 but it´s very stable
I also have 64Mb Uni

I have just installed Tomal's V10. So far its working for me. Previously I was experiencing random lockups say if I was using my stereo headphones and playing a game at same time or sending texts. After some changes (ex. disabling the windows default today plugin) I now have 18.95MB free program and 40.20MB storage. The built-in software works great for making Uni a wifi spot. Did Tomal release a kitchen for this rom? Or is it built on his V2.0 kitchen? Either way I seem to have been missing out on a great rom.
Now if I can somehow combine Cotulla's doc format, Thing's optimizations especially TCPMP and Opera being the default programs, and Tomal's great features I may never flash again.
Also for those not using Tomal's V10 but still need this feature check the 1st post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588099
It worked for me and says its the full version. Im not positive of it but it did work whereas the other cab I was using says trial expired. Thanks all for the help.
Simon_WM, were you able to compile it into a cab file?
@boxchevy
Yeah Tomal release a kitchen:

@Final5k
Although i've been around a longtime, i cant create a CAB, although i can uplaod the files direct from tomal's kitchen if you want?
I've added it in a ZIP format, you will need to then drop it into either:
OEM packages
or
EXT Packages
if it dont work either: PM me or Tomal and we try to sort it out!
thanks simon. im looking at trying to combine the kitchens if possible for a best fit for me. like i cant play warcraft2 with tomals V10. i tried adding the files for wireless modem to things rom but it didnt work. didnt add the comm manager option. ill keep trying. thanks though.
kwl,
you could try pming tomal for more help,
althouth depending on the kitchen:
Luca16thebig - Visual Kitchen
Thingonaspring - V2.31
Tomal's - V2 Uni kitchen
Hey thanks Simon_WM! I'll see if it works on my rom!
if it does... you could upload it for every1 else to use=]
