Welcome everybody, as this is my first post here.
When open the memory tool from settings I see free storage (40,24MB) and free program (45MB). The slide is in mid position.
When moving the slide right I can increase storage/decrease programs.
I did it and got e.g. free storage/program 61MB/24MB
But when trying to move 38MB file from SD to storage I got no space message.
What is then the REAL storage memory size ?
Hi All,

What for???????????????????
Because this is the most slowest PDA I holded ever in my hand.
I totally dissapointed with it.
If I install my main programs - not more - the free RAM will be maximum 23-24MB (after a hard reset it is 30-32MB), but when I use it, it decreases itself without any program running.
I start from 22.5MB after softreset, and when I use some programs it decreases (it's normal), but when I close them it is less time after time. So it is not enough to close a program. After 5-10 minutes with starting and closing some program it is 10-12MB free RAM memory without any program running!!!!!!
And what is my problem with it?
Hmmm....
For example a little complicated application (a navigation software) needs 10-15MB minimum.
So if you are lucky, you can start the program, but not more.
Don't imagine that you can use 2 or 3 (or forgive me 4) application simultanously.
That's very nice, isn't it?
Any idea to solve this sh*t?

Hi
Asukal already mounted 128MB RAM on mother board.
But unsuccessfull. Memory area does not change.
Storage card
U should try to install the software on the storrage card. Demanding programs like tomtom and high graffical games work great!.
When installing the program from the PC the add programs window opens (u know from active sync) There you can choose not to install the software on it's default location.
Above all that with WM5 you can also choose wether you want to install to your storrage card or on your memory.
Think of it like this:
On your PC:
Would you install your programs on precious RAM memory? That's why we use the hard disk.
cheers Jonathan

You are in a total misunderstanding, sorry.
Though there are slots for extra 32MB each it cannot b upgraded as the occupied slots are differrent than those which are left empty.Hv tried desoldering the RAM but after desoldering this fact was revealed..so
not possible as of now
I totally agree with Thunder2210 and others that there is a sever shortage of RAM (Program Memory) on this device.
Installing programs on SD card has nothing to do with the available RAM (Program Memory to be more precise). Installing programs on SD card only saves you the ROM (Storage Memory) which is not an issue anyways. The main problem is program memory and as rightly said by some in this thread that this gradually depletes as you work with your device after a soft reset. Try to open a very large web page such as the ones which review pocket pc devices with a lot of comparative pictures and your browser will soon run short of memory ultimately freezing your device.
However I fear that nothing can be done about this. This is probably an issue or limitation that Windows mobile 2005 operating system cannot address memory beyond 64 MB. Probably this is the reason that you must have seen recent devices where the Storage Memory (ROM) is higher than 128 MB but nothing is done about the RAM which remains at 64 MB. Unfortunately what we need is more RAM and not ROM.

just my 2 cents:
you may remember, the first device running windows mobile 5 was the good old XDA2, which is basically an old WM2003 device with 128mb ram and 64mb rom, where only 32mb is available for the user. but: the windows mobile running on this version (modified by some brave and good people here) is able to address all the ram, yes and there are different versions available:
128mb ram for running programs but no ramdisk for storing programs
96mb for running programs and 32mb reserved for ramdisk
64mb for running programs and 64mb reserved for ramdisk
etc. etc.
while i was using my XDA2 i have preferred the 96mb ram solution and wm5 was fully able to use those 96mb. even it is an old device, can you imagine how smooth i.e. mobile navigator 5 was running with 64-70mb of free ram (and overclocked from 400 to 530mhz)? it was lots of fun! htc universal is a piece of hightech sh*t, nothing for the real world use, compared to XDA2. i still have mine only for the vga screen otherwise i would have selled it long ago.

lack of ram on Universal
not an upgrade unfortunatly but certainly a help is a close button that actually closes things rather than just putting them in the background,
and heres a link to the program i use
http://www.pocketgear.com/products_search.asp
its a nice little program so doesn't eat your rom and its unobtrusive so wont clog up your today screen

Can U please fix the link, it does not work.
i know from my expreiance with BA WM5 rom editing that just soldering the ram on the board is not enough, you will need to find the hex values in the (decrypted) rom file that decideds how much ram the system partitions for itself on boot.
e.g - in BA wm5 roms you can edit these values so that some of the ram is left unpartitioned, leaving it free to be used as a ramdisk.
I see no reason why if someone found these values in a universal rom, combined with soldering on extra ramchips, they could reverse the process and increase the memory windows uses.

PocketPenguin. Current plan:
imx31 533mhz ARM11 CPU with internal GPU and FPU
256mb MDDR266
2 SD slots, ATA, Phone (Although this is becoming more useless by the day it seems, looks like the Videocall option is being dropped. Which is 80% of the reason I want the thing. (I want Videocalls but hate Windows Mobile)
Go, Sign up, and put in your requests and comments, Looks to be about $600-$700 total, Although you have to put it together. It's a DIY thing, (Loopholes are so great XD)
for this, I've send a mail to PocketPCTechs.com here it is
Hi LB,
Unfortunately we do not offer any RAM upgrades for the iMATE JASJAR. The nature of the CPU will not recognize any more memory.

With all these roms with "Big storage", doesnt that mean we are taking memory for the OS? Dont know about you but i store all my info and files on the micro sd so storage isnt the problem but the OS running low on memory to the point that either the programs like "iGo" wont run. Anyone have any idea to set BIG memory if possible so my 8525 will have the memory it needs to run programs?
No you are way off track on what you are thinking Programs need RAM to run which you can add more by increasing the Pagepool we increase the PROGRAM storage if you run out of ram you should get a kaiser I have never run out and I have loaded and run every app I can at the same time
How does increasing the page pool give you more ram?
I agree, it would be nice to have max ram and just enough for storage for essential programs. I have a fast 6gb microsdhc and install everything on that instead.
Chris
i use iGo for my gps. It will say that I have no ram left, and when I check what other programs are running, i have to basically close everything down to use the program. In my older pdas running windows mobile, I had the option to toggle more storage to ram or visa vera but with wm6 I cant. Is there a hack to have more ram for the os.
The more you use the phone, even with all the programs closed the more ram it will use. Only why to clear the ram is to do a restart.
So if anyone knows a reg hack or something please share, cause so far cant find anything
To clarify (this is my understanding)
The total memory on your device is split into say 4 sections when you get it.
Program memory (RAM) -cleared on a soft reset, only holds running processes etc. CANNOT BE INTERCHANGED WITH OTHER MEMORY _ IS BASICALLY FIXED - except for Page Pool.
Storage - where you store programs/files that are not in the ROM
ROM - where the os lives
Extended ROM - additional ROM space.
Now, certain advances mean that
1. Spare space in the ROM image can be freed up and added to Storage memory - this was the original big storage adjustment
2. the Space used by the extended rom can now also be merged to Storage memory - this is the REAL BIG Storage adjustment.
3 The page pool is like a quick access holding area that the system uses to keep files it uses lots. this is part of the program memory but te system does not report it as such. Hence your total program memory plus your page pool is your real program memory. Thus, reducing the page pool will add to program memory. this may impact the performance of your system however.
All this is only my basic understanding.

... and it is completely correct. To say it very clear again:
RAM is physically different memory (different chips) from all other memory. There is no way to get more RAM by sacrificing some storage memory.
That only worked in Windows Mobile 2003, because there also Storage was in RAM. This was changed in WM5, so that data will not get lost when the battery is removed.
Cheers

Thanks, that clears that up....lol.

Thank you very much! This explanation is very useful.
Now I will need some help from the more experienced users...
I'm using a T-Mobiles MDA (838Pro) running WM6, CE OS 5.2.1437 (Build 17944.0.3.1).
For the last month or so, I kept getting messages to say that my Storage Memory is critically low.
I have all my documents, ring tones, music, photos, video, etc. saved on my storage card. So there is practically nothing stored in the device ROM. I've checked all folders under "My Device", and there weren't really a lot of files in there.
I've used Oxios ClearApp and Hibernate to do clean up a few times a day. But that doesn't seems to help.
I've installed Clear Temp and use that to clean up the temp files. It works for a few days, but then the problem returned.
I've even deleted some programs, but it looks like whatever gets freed up will just be quickly be eaten up again.
Has anyone even experienced or heard of something similar? If so, please help!
Thank you very much!
John

Dear friends:
Things have gone worse... My Storage Memory has dropped so low that I can't even send out any long SMS anymore.
It looks like I might have found where the problem is, but still don't know how it happened and how to solve it.
First, when I open Settings>Remove Programs, I see that practically all the appication programs are listed under "Programs in storage memory", including those that weren't even installed by me, like "Cyberon VoiceCommander". I'm not sure whether this is talking about the same "Storage Memory". But I thought that when I choose "Install in My Device" when installing a program, it is supposed to go into the "Program Memory", not "Storage Memory"?
Secondly, I took a closer look under "File Explorer", and I've finally found a few files that are very large size:
pim.vol (in root directory), 6.35MB
cemail.vol (in root directory), 412KB
compimeh.0904 (in Windows directory), 16.8MB
It also looks like these files will be amended every time when I do an ActiveSync. Not sure whether this is what caused my Storage Memory to go down everyday.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Would anyone have an idea of what these files are and whether it is safe to delete them?
I really appreciate if someone can help!
Thank you very much!
John
Thanks to those who were reading and trying to help. I have part of the mystery solved.
From this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=compimeh.0904
I learnt that the file compimeh.0904.dat is in fact the dictionary that the Hermes used to autofill when we type our e-mails and messages. It will keep growing as we use those functions.
I have followed the instruction on the thread and deleted the file. Now I have 16.8MB back.
But I still don't understand how 30MB of my Storage Memory would be occupied. If some friends here can shed some light, it would be most appreciated.
what to do to increase the main memory?
closing programs rather then minimizing them
and maybe stopping auto started programs by removing
their shortcuts in \windows\startup
are your only options
unless there are more empty mem spaces on the pcb like on universal
Thank you for the answer, but what I wanted to know is the way off increase the memory physically.
Thanks

there isn't a way to increase the memory. If you change the ROM, you may end up with more free (depends on which ROM, each one uses a different amount of memory).
"Thank you for the answer, but what I wanted to know is the way off increase the memory physically.

yes thats what i ment by
"unless there are more empty mem spaces on the pcb like on universal"
very few htc devices which been able to upgrade mem
and those that have only if one was handy at solvering smd components
and making a custom rom which was able to see the new mem
which one had to stick with and not upgrade to newer rom versions
unless they too was custom made to see the new mem
at the end of the day it could be more trouble then it was worth
and be more pricy then the artemis was worth
For increase recording memory of HTC P3300 Artemis
Hello!!!
In my HTC P3300 I have this situation: recording memory total 32.45MB and Used 27.12MB (Free only 5,33MB); Program Memory total 47.90MB and Used 26.00MB (free 21,90MB).I don't understand because all the new programs are installed only in the recording memory and not in program memory.
I have the problem of recording memory. When i'm installing a new program, i can doing in external micro sd card?or in program memory?I think is not possible.
In My HTC P3300 working this program: Tom Tom 6.030 west europe map;Swissgeo map: Phone phad Dark; Opera 9.5 beta. When i use opera for internet my HTC show the message :recording memory full.I haved erase sms, MMS and E-mail message and i have only 5,33MB. (before installing of opera 9.5 i have'd 12MB free).
I want ask if is possible erase a part of program that not cause error (for example in TOM TOM i use the Italian language,is possible erase the france language or other).
Excuse me for my English not very well.
Thank you very much.
Hi there, I just browsing thru all the created threads,....about increasing the memory ....it will increased if we flash our rom thhru our SD card rite?....the base will be the capacity of the SD card....to run an application will be much more smoother....with high RAM....isnt it.?
Hi wondered if anybody could help ?
Got an XDA orbit and installed Touch Flo 3 the other day.
Love the interface but it is causing the memory to be too low to operate effectively
Program memory is in total 50mb
The free memory goes as low as 6mb and causes issues such as the camera not been able to work ' memory to low ' error message
Is there any way to resolve this -
is there asn alternative version of touch flo that would be more effective ?
my storage memory has 31mb free - can i use any of this ?
please help
thanx sean
