With all these unofficial ROM's, is it actually safe to use windows update for windows mobile?
it will actually never works since
1. There are no working wa/ota servers
2. There is no IU flag in imgfs
3. Most roms have IU loader removed
i always get an code0x000000000 (No update available). I have a LG KS20. Is this update Device specific or how does it work?
because of what sp3dev said and lazyness on ms's part
it is not Device specific because it dont work on any devices i know of
Um.....?
so u can't update ur device?
seems so, a feature with no function....

i can't use it because everytimes i have an error with the server connection.
are there any configuration or anythings to do for use it?
thank you
it doesn't work with our phone.
doesnt work with any phone. ms has never released an ota update.
it only existed in 6.1 anyways. what would they update that you wouldnt need a new rom for?

Only once, AT&T released two hotfixes for their Tilt2 in the form of .cab.pku files, which are CAB installers capable of overwriting files in ROM, permanently patching the problem files. Of course, Windows Update mobile failed to deliver them, automatically or otherwise, so you still had to download them from AT&T regardless...
@OP: Windows Update mobile is absolutely useless, don't waste your time actually checking for updates.
att didnt use windows mobiles windows update. the tilt 2 only had 6.5 for one, and the hotfixes used a rom updater like thingy. itll actually try to update from microsoft but fails. im running htcs stock 2.07 rom anyways.
I'm sure a lot of you must have thought about this. Since the NoDo update would supposedly start rolling out anytime this week, I'm wondering if it would be possible to extract the ROM from the update?
Assuming that the update process is similar to iOS (since we have to update through Zune) and all the files are downloaded to the PC first, it is possible that the ROM is also downloaded to the PC from where it can be extracted.
If this works, will it be possible to use that ROM/Firmware and flash it on other devices? Say a NoDo update ROM from an AT&T Focus could be used to revive (mine and a lot of other) Samsung Focus devices.
Someone might have to play with the Microsoft Windows Update Service Protocol a bit to get this idea to work, but I'm sure it would be worth the effort.
I would have given it a shot myself but I recently had to return the HD7 review unit I had and my personal Samsung Focus is laying dead.
actualy update could have OEM SOFTWARE PARTS .. like new kernel or driver update .. also - RRUU counts as FFU ( full flash update ) and could not flash partial update .... since ms distribute updates in packages for corresponding os parts . not full image
I think WP7 update process is more complicated than iOS. WP and its build system support differential update, not only full flash update. So the update file could be just part of system files.
There is a com dll you can look into ZuneWmdu.dll, but i was not able to create a com instance in c#. (Maybe i was quiet stupid yesterday or there is really a problem). You should be able with the api to make your own update tool, but since the phone does the request for the firmware/update/rom this could be a little bit complicated.

Hmm from what I've heard, the Zune client uses the Zune pass through connection to the phone which checks for updates on its own.
The problem is that if it is a delta update then it would be impossible to build a complete system image from the update.
I wonder if it still would be possible to use ROMs from another similar device but replace driver and device specific files from the original device. That would be sort of a custom ROM.
Dear forum members,
This is to inform you that MS has totally changed the update process from PreNoDo / NoDo to Mango 7720
The process is a chain of updates and after Mango 7720 an hTC update is received
Finally OEM, SYS, Radio and bootloader are all updated and the HSPL is lost
For hTC_Europe the update is:
OS version: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware: 2250.21.40502.401 >> ROM version 4.05.401.02
Radio: 5.69.09.29a_22.50.50.21U
Bootloader: 4.5.2250.0(129185)
I am preparing a new U2M7720 xap in order to preserve unlock
Regards, ansar
will this new one work for all us who have accepted the htc drivers update and cant roll back??

I was about to restore my NoDo backup in order to get interop-unlocked when I saw this thread. Thanks for the heads-up. You just saved me the ton of aspirin I'd have needed!
And thanks for all your work.
For the HTC devices, can you package in the required version of Connection Setup to make this work all the way through the final upgrade AND keep 3G alive?
Also, I assume you will need to start from an unlocked pre-NoDo or unlocked NoDo?
Last question - when you get to the final Mango, will you have set the phone to be interop-unlocked and prevent-relock with registry mods?
Sorry for all the questions
great.. i cant wait for this update to hit my device.. hopefully it will repair the bootloader problem.
this sorta scarees me
well this seams sorta scary for hd2 users will thay still beable to use MAGLDR 113 to dule boot wp7 & android on hd2?
i understand the process is quite diffrent from the rest of the wp7 phones and thare bootloaders?
i am going thru this process now. reverting back to NoDO(7392) this morning but tried to force update not working. backup was corrupted as well.
so no choice i have to go abck to factory default ROM. then only it start all the update from 7004 to 7008 to 7392 to 7403 to 7720 to HTC driver update all the way without stopiping.
u have to do ya dev-unlock really fast in order for them to carry on the next update.

Is this the firmware update we've been waiting for? Does this mean internet sharing on older htc devices such as hd7 work now? or is this some other kind of update?
The previous official Mango(7720) update only provide Microsoft update. after that Mango(7720) update. by right you should receive another update from HTC. its called HTC driver Update previously.
from today update onward for HTC device. the HTC driver update which come after Mango(7720) update previously will be bundle together with Mango(7720) update.
i did that just now and found my bootloader and firmware was still the original before Mango(7720) update. it has come to the latest one after i check Mango(7720) updated. and there is no need for HTC driver update anymore.

Hi,
This must be the final cause includes hTC OEM too, see 1st post for revion numbers
Regards, ansar
i'm not sure if i get it right...
1st we go to 7403....then to final mango(7720)...and then to htc update(again 7720)...3 steps of update....RIGHT???
so if we want to just go to final mango...can we use that old trick or not???
or ms has just put final mango and htc update into one update???i mean ms makes it 2 steps instead of 3...right???
This is nothing new... It has been the case since day 1 of the mango official release through zune....
I did the update (with the internet disconnect trick) on my Trophy and it was a 2 step update:
1st i got the 7403 rom
2nd i got the 7720/HTC drivers COMBINED update (which got installed in 1 go!)
After this, my phone was at 7.10.7720.68 with firmware revision 2250.21.40600.168 , radio 5.69.09.05a_22.50.20.21U and bootloader 4.6.2250.0(129185) and LOCKED!!! (and couldn't unlock as HTC Connection manager did nothing at all!!!)
I had to go back to my nodo restore point (but with spl 4.6.2250.0 which didn't change) and perform the "beta" way(U2B2) to 7403 ISV and then to 7720 ISV which got unlocked by Connection setup, and then return the phone to "normal" mode (DoNotU2b2) and get the HTC driver update (the phone remained unlocked!)
I have preserved all the MANGO/HTC combined update files just before they were deleted by the updater program during the transfering to the phone, and you can clearly see that there is a large cab file ~147Mb which is mango and a second file ~62Mb which contains all the HTC drivers/bootloader/applications ...
Here is the HTC file:

Hi there,
I just cancel the update and apply the dev-unlock and then search for update again, that's how I did with the whole process and it works and I am still dev-unlock.
Hope I Have Been Of Help. PEACE!!!
This might be the exact reason, why am I saying, that provisioning between updates (U2M7200) is working just on some phones. As deliol said earlier, this applies from day one, where my stock NoDo Mozart was updated in one turn with the 7720 install. Provisioning stopped working after that, even if I deployed ProvXML after the 7403 update and on Mango again. I even have higher versions than ansar and deliol.
NoDo > Summer HTC Update for Mozart > 7403 > Mango
OS 7.0.7392.0 > xxx > 7.0.7403.0 > 7.10.7720.68
FW 2250.09.12902.401 > 2250.09.13001.401 > xxx > 2250.21.40600.401
Radio SW 5.52.09.16.22.33a.50.10U > 5.54.09.21_22.33b.50.10U > xxx > 5.69.09.05a_22.50.50.21U
BL 1.28.2250.4(113913) > 1.30.2250.1(117833) > xxx > 4.6.2250.0(129193)
xxx means no change
Ffs overnight either ms or HTC done something all 3rd party apps gone, limit back to my developer 10 and not letting install any 3rd party back on can't retest new 3rd party apps looks like full wipe of phone n restart unless someone works how to hack through mango
Sent from Ant's HTC 7 Mozart using XDA Windows Phone 7 App.
went back to no do unlocked used ansar u2b2 and it went straight to 7720.68? and is fully locked now, please help.
You're not the only one. Just wait until someone finds a way to hijack Mango. As new devices which can not be downgraded are on the market, the interest for this will grow.
Hm, bad news as it seems :/
I tried it yesterday with ansars U2B2 tool and I am running 7.10.7720.68. Only difference to Ansars version number is the firmware revision number: 2250.09.16901.401 with hardware revision number 0002.
I installed the HTC Update when the official Mango update was announced worldwide while I was still running Mango B2 Refresh on the phone.
Right now, applications with the interop capability still run, but they are limited. The Advanced Touch explorer only shows his own application folder and registry is not available. I guess its because of the changed way the HTC DLLs can be used. Lets hope for Ansar or Heathcliff to figure this out
Does it matter what hardware version does one have as long as their mango is unlocked and can do sideloading.just my 2 cents.
So I've been browsing around for days trying to find where to bring in my unlocking endeavors, any help? Links, or anything of the sort. I have an hd7s with mango 7720 if that helps at all. Thanks.
I think you'd have to flash your phone with either a custom rom or a pre nodo rom then use chevron unlock and use ansars or petbede guide to upgrade to mango while retaining the unlocks. I personally have a legit $99 unlock on my pro 7 with nodo and followed petbede guide using ansars u2m7720 1.2 tool to upgrade to mango you also need to have HTC connection setup installed as its been removed from the market place.

im in a similar situation except im on nodo trying to go to mango
I can sideload HTC connection setup but it keeps saying that the database does not exist on the device
any suggestions?
@jaygriggs: A sideloaded version wouldn't work anyhow. It need the marketplace signature or you can't run it without already having interop-unlock, which makes it rather useless for the purpose of interop-unlocking your phone.
Ansar claims to have a way to interop-unlock HTC on Mango, but last I saw the mods had locked his thread for breaking the XDA-Devs forum rules (requesting donations before he'd send you the app).

i was beginning to think a signature was the issue.
Most apps dont work on a cdma device
I'd have no problem donating if i knew it was going to work
Where would I begin to flash a custom rom? Or roll back to chevron unlock?
I'm having the same questions/issues also. I have an HTC Trophy, was on NoDo, and I have a developer-unlock (student unlock, so I can sideload 3 apps)
I followed these instructions:
Download/Install: TouchXplorer and HTC Connection applications
Download/Install: The App Deploy file (that deploys CustClear.provxml to the My Docs\My Ringtones folder)
I then did this:
1) use TouchXplorer to copy the CustClear.provxml file to the \Windows\ folder
2) Run HTC Connection and click the Checkbox
3) Repeat Step 1 again (to put that file back in the \Windows\ folder)
4) Update to the next version using Zune (one below Mango)
5) Repeat Steps 1 thru 4, which now updates to Mango
After Mango was installed, I am still at the student/developer unlock (up to 3 sideloaded apps). What did I do wrong, and what do I need to do to get Mango with unlimited sideloads?
Thanks in advance.
@Avazee: You have to use an upgrade path which gives you 7720 (Mango) and the HTC Update for Mango in different steps. This used to be done by using the beta upgrade path.
The problem is that 7720 re-locks the device against ID_CAP_INTEROPSERIVES, so you have to use Connection Setup to interop-unlock it. The HTC update doesn't re-lock the device, but it prevents you from using Connection Setup to make changes (it also breaks some other homebrew, like TouchXplorer). If you get them at the same time, which is how MS is currently pushing the Mango update, your phone gets re-locked and you lose the ability to unlock at the same time - very unfortunate.
You could use This, no idea if it works tough. I have been upgrading to Mango with the U2B2 tool

Thanks for the reply. What do you mean by HTC Update? I didn't get any HTC update...
How do I use an upgrade path that gives me Mango and this 'HTC Update' in different steps?
Thanks for your help.

I really hope someone can prove me wrong (I have been reading and looking for weeks on this forum and yet to see otherwise). For HTC going to Mango and retaining interop-unlock, all I have seen mentioned that works is starting with a Shubert ROM (spelling?) and using U2B2 method or a cooked ROM.
BUT, this does not work as these ROMs will not work on the CDMA version WP7 phones (which VZW HTC Trophy is one, sprint is another). I have not seen anyone take the stock NoDo CDMA ROM that came on our phones and get to Mango interop-unlocked. There is no pre-nodo CDMA ROM in existence.
Anyone, please prove me wrong as I would really like to be wrong.
I don't currently know of a way to avoid getting the HTC update bundled with the Mango update. The approach used previously was to install the Mango beta, interop-unlock it, then upgrade to 7720 (Mango release), and since that didn't include the HTC update you could interop-unlock it too. You could then install the HTC update if you wished.
For users following the retail update path, the HTC update is simply part of the Mango (7403->7720) update.

how do i know if my phone is jailbrake or not????
Your Phone is unlocked if you can sideload Applications Rom our PC. You are unlocked if you have flashed a preunlocked ROM or if you are a Developer and unlocked it with the Unlock tool OR if you have used the ChevronWP Unlock Tool
So after searching google 10,000 times I am having trouble unlocking the htc arrive. The developer unlocking tool can never see that my phone is connected through zune.
Msdn states to use the chrange profile option in cellular settings. I have done this but still nothing. I got it working once on nodo and then tried to re-unlock on mango but it can never see the phone.
Sidenote: Anyway I was thinking that the change profile button may do the same thing as htc connection setup. If someone has an arrive please try it out and let me know how it works.
So the process would be (starting at nodo)
1. unlock through developer tools
2. then deploy and execute provxml.xap
3. Use touch xperinece to move the xap to the proper directory
4. Go to Settings -> Cellular-> Change Profile
(reset phone if change profile doesn't update and try again)
5. Upgrade to mango and see if you keep ur devunlock
Let me know if this works for you guys. I would do it myself but I can't reliably unlock my htc arrive. If anyone has tried this let me know
I would check to make sure you have the latest WP7 SDK installed. I believe i had an older 7.0 beta that didn't uninstall properly but once I cleared it up I was able to install the 7.1 version (I believe, don't quote me on it as I am at work and cannot say for certain what the latest version is) which then allowed the phone to talk properly to the server. (Using the Chevron official Unlock)
It is required to use the latest version with Mango. Nodo may work fine with the older version.
Also you cannot run Connection Setup with the arrive since it is 100% CDMA and the app will not run past a warning message on it. :/
Tried 7.1
Yea I tried the 7.1 sdk and still no go. Installed on a new pc and still not seeing the device. Just don't have the original htc cable. I was thinking that the Change PROFILE setting would be the CDMA equilvalent of HTC connection setup. It allows the phone to make a connection through the usb cable. So it may have other abilites that we don't know
Thread Closed
If you have verified the process, then fine, but asking others to take the risk is not on.
