newbie 8525 wm6 question - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

i'm poor bought a refurb 8525 from att for $129. have wanted one of these forever, wifey finally gave me permission and got one yesterday. looks brand new and seems to work great.
first thing i did was update to wm6 pro off of htc's website. everything worked fine and has the correct rom and now says wm 6 pro.
i thought one of the differences between 5 and 6 was the large icons on the main screen? the main screen looks just like wm 5. is there a way to go to the larger icons or is this just a diluted version of wm6?
tks for all help

You are probably talking about HTC Home. Is it the thing with the big digital clock and the icons underneath it? Use google to search this site for HTC Home Plugin. Download it, install the cab and viola.

going to get S620 this week, 2 questions.

Well, i just bought a htc s620 / excalibur yesterday. (i think, i'm going to receive it within this week, maybe).
I still got two questions :
1. is there a nameable difference between the official wm6 (offered from thc, already upgraded on the one i bought) ad wm 6.1 (except, that wm6.1 now has the home-panel?) - so, is there a NEED to upgrade to wm6.1?
and:
2. how can i create themes for this one? can i simply create wm6-qvga-landscape-themes for windows mobile ppc (using theme maker x) or is there any better program out, which supports qvga smartphones? or does the theme-style (sp-qvga / ppc-qvga) even matter anyway?

To answer the first question, i would upgrade to the new 6.1, its really awesome. Also, it includes many nice features like threaded texting, etc. And regarding the second question, i never really tried creating themes because the new 6.1 is loaded with nice themes.
ppc themes as far as I know won't work with a landscape device..they either won't load or will come out distorted...a good program with a lot of custom landscape themes is Facade from SBSH...they have a trial (14 day i believe) and a pay version (not too expensive) and before I upgraded to 6.1 I use to use it a lot...it'll work with 6.1.
Yep - you will definitely want to upgrade to the WM6.1 ROM. No matter what cooked ROM you use, the basic improvements to 6.1 over 6 are numerous with things like PIE copy & paste and zoom in and out and customizable home page. I personally don't use the sliding panel home screen but many love it.

Oh yah the copy and paste feature is awesome
well, i will keep thinking of a possible upgrade to 6.1 (but, i think, i will keep the pre-installed WM6, because it is shipped in german, and i already have an english x50v with 6.1, and as it's a smartphone, i'd like to keep it my native language).
And as for themes : is the theming still divided in color-theme and bakground-image (which can be put sinlge in as well to any existing theme, as it was in SP2003SE) - i was using a voq professional for now.
if that's the way, SP-Themes work, i may "only" have to create qvga-landscape-images and that's all.
but only, if i can still edit the internal colors / colorsheme with V2R home screen editor. (i think, it's nearly the same app, as homeEdit is, which i used for theming on the voq.).
And as i also have the mentionned Dell Axim x50v (mostly always near me, as i use it as mp3-player), i have a pda, with which i go online, if there's a free spot around. So there may be no real need to go online whith this SP, so I may use it only the way it is - as a phone, for appointments/reminders and a few games.

WM 6.0 Home screens

Hello,
Im running WM 6.0 on my HTC S621, I used 6.1 kavana but it has a key mapping problem and I couldn't text well unless someone would like to give me a detailed tut on how to install a new keymap because i cannot figure it out.
But my real question is there any WM 6.0 Homescreens for download. like new button placement icons. etc.
Im not having much luck as everything is for 6.1
oh snap! a comedian!
for the home screen/today screen thing, id start here and steal all of theirs.
you can also use these ones (yes they are for the Q but just overlook that...they will work just fine)

New "Activated" Winterface version

Hello all!
For quite some time, I've been playing around with different interfases, looking for the one that would best fit my needs.
A few may have skipped my net, but I've been through WAD, Pointui, Ifonz, Winterface, etc etc, and believe me, etc etc etc
None of them seem to be the "all inclusive" I needed until after many weeks, decided to stick to Winterface, primarily, thanks to the work of davehutch and oscarbum with their Stickerface and Tenius themes which made Winterface a bit more palatable.
Yesterday I came across an article at mobility site which spoke about a Winterface version for the i-mate (http://mobilitysite.com/2008/12/vito-powers-i-mate-go/).
In a nutshell, it's a new Winterface version made for the i-mate, but here's the thing:
1) It's a 100% free version (aka, activated)
2) From what I've seen, it works on any wm5 and wm6 device
Why bother? Ok... Here's why: I understand that the "black" themes are having their moment, but the truth is they are unreadable in daylight conditions. And as crazy as it may sound, I use my phone outdoors.
So this version has BIG chunky icons on a white background which makes it very easy to read and see with all the Winterface benefits.
I'm sure the likes of oscarbum and davehutch can come up with some new icons, but this is the refreshing change I've been after some time.
Enjoy and let me know how you went with it.
** Added the cab for your reference **
fantastic, I never liked the small buttons of winterface when using my mda compact iv, it was too difficult to get them to work since the screen is quite small for a vga device.
works great, I can't thank you enough
Hey, no problems. I'm glad to start contributing for a change!
hey man thanks for putting up the .cab file (been looking all over for this) but do you know if it'll do fine on a QVGA or VGA
Works fine on QVGA, even works on WM2003.
Only caveat with this version is it's not full screen and it is so easy to close Winterface by accident. I raised this with Vito and was advised to upgrade to the newer version.
That said I have tried to live with it but have ended up going back to a modded SPB MobileShell as it shows more on my home page.
How can you make this 'today-app' be the one always shown if you start instead of TouchFlo?
I have the Touch HD/Blackstone
/edit
nvm.
Someone told me that it's not a today-app xD
So it won't be a home screen for me.
Default Today Screen??
Is there a way to make this interface the default today screen, I keep accidentally closing the program

does the stock Rhodium wm6.5 have sense?

Greetings,
As all of us know that HTC officially releases WM6.5 to the Rhodium, .... even the new Touch Pro2 comes pre-loaded with WM6.5 instead of WM6.1.
My question is, does this version (HTC Stock WM6.5) have Sense (with the weather animation above the clock and colored icons), or the plain TouchFlo3D (Bi-Color icons and no weather animation on the clock)
I am quite sure they would use the same WM 6.5 ROM as is on their website, so I'm 99.9% sure it will have Sense 2.1. If not it won't take more than a couple mins downloading it and flashing before setting up your new TP2.
Again, I really can't see why they wouldn't include Sense 2.1 in it. It wouldn't make any.
Sense, yeah. Gaw, I'm hilarious. Happy new year!

Hi irkan,
Installed HTC 6.5 AU version on my T7381 (via hard spl) and yes it does have Sense, was surprised as only thought cooked roms had ported from leo... so weather is on home screen and icons are coloured .... also Microsoft Voice command works over bluetooth headset which did not on 6.1

Really? Great news, i too thought that official sense comes only to the HD2. so i assume the landscape mode of the TP2 sense is officially supported and works flawlessly, thanx!
It is Sense 2.1, which a bit more limited compared to the Sense 2.5 from the Leo.

do not know version but 2.5 is from Leo (with landscape issues todate) so would say yes it is 2.1 ...
I could see there's some confusion.
Sense2.1 isn't from the Leo (HD2). That's why there's landscape support (landscape support was always present in Sense 2.1). It's just a small upgrade from TouchFlo3D (Manila 2.0); it upgrades to Sense 2.1 (aka Manila 2.1).
As of now, Sense 2.5 is still *officially* known to run only on the HD2. And, Sense 2.5 now has official HTC landscape support; however, 3 tabs are still not fully supported.
*And, I'm sure the stock WWE Rhodium with WM6.5 will have Sense 2.1.
Might be out of topic here but does anyone know how to activate the weather background like in sense 2.5? or is it even possible yet?
Been searching but couldnt find any links to it. Yesterday i saw someone on youtube posted up a video of official TP2 6.5 ROM with the weather background and i thought it was availale but it wasn't. Couldnt find the video again too

I remember in the old EnergyROMs (Manila2.1), I went to Settings Tab > Personalize > Home Wallpaper > when it asked me "Set default?", I said yes.
I think that was cooked in by NRG, though.

yea, i just upgraded mine from the official 6.1 to the official 6.5.
in mine it's only settings tab > Wallpaper > and after i changed it, then it will ask whether i would like to change it back to default > Yes.
But its only dark background in the home screen, i dont see any animated wallpaper thing. So is it not included on the official 6.5 rom?
I have the TP2 bought in Saudi Arabia. I recently Hard-SPl it and thus was able to install the Hong Kong version of Win6.5, 1.86.721.4(67102) WWE. And it does have the weather animation on the home page. How can i find out the Sense version? By the way it works in the landscape mode too.
my apology...it does have the weather background. Weird,it didn't showed when i tried it earlier.
Oh and while im at it, this is the first time i use the 6.5 over the 6.1 and my impression is that it is......slow. The ram usage is ridiculous too, up to 70% at idle after caching the whole thing? the 6.1 rom onlywent as far as 60% i think after heavy use + 6.1 is a lot snappier too.
i'll play around with this for a week before rolling back to 6.1 i guess

yeah there hasnt been an official WM6.5 release for TP2 in the middle east, i contacted HTC they said it should be in the first months of 2010.
what are your experience with the original WM6.5 (other than mr_sheen). is it also slow?
How about landscape support in Album while viewing opened photos on Rhodium. Is that working?

I am in Dubai, i emailed HTC Support long time back(twice) but no response, and for their Hotline toll fre number , i held it up for more than 17 minutes, and it kept me on hold/waiting.....so dont know how to contact them...
if they are releasing official ROM 6.5 in this month, i will wait...
lets see...if you find it out that it has been released, plz PM me, viz....i will PM you..
just a quick update after i use the 6.5 ROM for a day:
a. With the No push internet tweak the starting RAM is 47% (almost same as 6.1) but then it climbs up again maxing at 72-74% (it stays at 64% for a while but eventually goes up again) after day do day heavy use (sms, phone, internet etc).
b. The opera browser seems to be a lot slower in scrolling. It's not as smooth as in 6.1. No problem in speed and rendering of the page though, its just not smooth. Thats all
c. In 6.1 when i set my device to vibrate sometimes it doesn't vibrate when message comes, it does now, which is a good thing.
d. Haven't tried the GPS as im up to my neck with college work. I'll do it soon though.
e. Overall, its a lot brighter and colourful than the 6.1 package but the 6.1 is a lot snappier in the TouchFlo 3D and the overall windows use.
Personally, i can't stand the RAM usage though, but im just in love with the weather background. I like it. If only i could drop the RAM up to 60% on idle then i'd be a happy man
oh and i read something about disabling network tethering thing to make the RAM a lot less on startup, whereabout is that? i cant seems to find the thread. It's not on sticky either

Actually my experience so far has been wonderful. Its not slow. Note though after i hard-spl(ed) i installed the Hong Kong version of Wm6.5. Its not slow. Right now i have my Jabra HALO bluetooth connected to it. Its being a pleasant experience thus far.
I communicated severally with HTC on the release of the Middle East version and after i got tired of waiting i just went the route i took. And so far so good. When HTC finally decides to release the Middle East version i will simply de-install the Hard-Spl and install the middle east version.

You installed the official version for HTC right? or is it a cooked one? if it is official than i dont see why other official versions are slow, the only difference between them is the language (i suppose).
and i did not know that you need hard-SPL to install official HTC ROMs
I have a few questions about Sense, Win 6.5 & 6.1.
I feel quite n00bish, since i had the Kaiser(Tilt 1) for two years & even flashed a custom ROM, but I am looking for some insight into what 'Sense' is, and what does it get you, and does my stock ATT ROM that I have, have it?
I just got the handset, so I assumed it was WIN 6.5, no?
Do I need to flash a custom ROM (Is it advised, since I am happy with the stock ATT rom <for now>?) to get the weather on the clock?
If these are questions I should have read already, please direct me to those threads. But honestly, I am on XDA daily, and I have not come up with the answers.
Thanks!

Where do I start? ATT bloatware eating it alive!

Hello all!
I am just coming off of using a Tilt for 3 years, and finally it died. In my opinion, it was the best phone I ever owned. I had high expectations for this new tilt2, but alas - when it arrived, I was dismayed at all of the crapware, levels of junk, and the lack of ability to control what icons I see on the start menu (which looks like someone vomited icons all over the screen - no organization to them at all - I have to dig 3 menus deep just to find file explorer, and FORGET about the wireless manager! It's hopeless!
Why oh why have they taken away the customization that made WM great?
On my old Tilt, I simply ran the stock rom, and did the reset to avoid all the att crapware, for a plain vanilla WM5 device. I then ran Kaisertweak, and HTC Home customizer. It ran whatever apps I threw at it, and ran them well.
My only complaint would be that compared to the iphone, the apps look and feel clunkier, but as I said, they worked very well, so who cares? Even the freeware Opera browser worked well, if inferior to Safari - but not terrible.
Is there any way to make this one look and act like that? What I wouldnt give for it to run WM5, I swear...
I have owned: Casiopea e150, dell x3, dell x5, royaltech PPC w/ gps, Eten M600, Glofiish X500, ATT 8125, ATT tilt, Iphone 2g, Iphone 3g, and now this.
I am not afraid of tweaking, although I dislike 'cooked' roms - Id rather fix a clean factory release.
Of all of those, the (old) Tilt was my woobee. I might just see if I can find another one somewhere. I like the new screen, and the fact it can play xvid movies without a recode, but damn...is it worth it? I'm afraid to put any software on this thing, because I might never find it again!

Best advice I can offer sense you dont really want a cooked rom is to grab a Program like Total commander and remove the icons you dont want and rearrange it anyway you would like
How about this: can someone point me to a plain vanilla WM6.1 (if that will work) or a WM6.5 ROM and maybe a few device driver cabs?
Oh, and by the way - I hate the 70's flipdown clock. I wish I could at choose how that looks. My god...the WM developers have now painted themselves into a corner!
*grumble grumble*
Subterran-
I think you may be overreacting a bit. I don't understand, with all of your device experience, why you aren't willing to find a cooked ROM that suits your needs and just slap it on there.
I tried the stock HTC ROM from here, http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Rhodium/Shipped_Roms, and found it to be a good alternative.
There are programs to change the interface, i.e. SPB Mobile Shell, which will let you get rid of what seems to be your biggest complaint.. There are programs to do just about anything you want it to do.
Oh, I also had a Tilt1 (Tytn II) and this one is an improvement over it, though it was a very good device.

I think that clock is all HTC's doing. I would like some different options for clocks and some of the cooked ones are good.

All better! Thanks all!
OK - yes I must admit, I was overreacting. I jumped out and grabbed the very capable SPD mobile shell, and that took care of me being completely lost because of the worlds nuttiest start menu (!)
Here is my complete load, in case anyone is interested:
Stock 6.5 ATT ROM
Install .net 3.5 so I can use:
Crudscraper (Awesome way to clean the bloatware out, thanks!)
SPB Mobile Shell (this completely bypasses the default start menu / home - good riddance!)
1% Increment Battery Driver
K-Battery (a slick, freeware battery meter that looks great)
Memory Map Weather Radar
Vito Audionotes MP3 recorder
National Geographic Pocket Topo
Odyssey Mobile Navigator
Backcountry Navigator
TCPMP Player (Orb looks ver nice!)
WMWifirouter
Resco Regedit
Phoenix Studio
Then just customize SPB like I want it, and BAM - POW! How you like me now!
I REALLY like the mount-as-disc feature for accessing the microsd. About time! I am much happier with this phone.
Thanks XDA!
Looks like you're settled on Mobile Shell. If you ever feel like using the default start menu, I use JWMD Icon Changer to sort the icons, make folders, and (obviously) change icons. As another mentioned, you can use Total Commander to move the icons.

I found these alternate TouchFlo 3D clock on these forums.

Haven't tried them on my Tilt2 yet, but likely will soon.
Also HD Tweak (works just fine on Tilt2 despite being intended for Touch HD) and Advanced Config are great places to start tweaking settings.
