Orange UK - Line 2 function on the Kaiser - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Have recently acquired a TynTn II (Kaiser P4550) from Orange UK (details below). It is a truly excellent device and with all the support around I have configured it to do virtually everything that I want - with one exception.
I have had a second cellular number for business use in all my previous handsets (most recent Nokia N80i) but they omitted to tell me, until after I had upgraded, that this function was 'not supported' under Windows Mobile 6 (or at least not by them !!).
I happened to get to speak to a relatively helpful support guy at Orange who - after I had convinced him that, being an IT professional, I had some knowledge in these matters - admitted that 'all the building blocks' were present to make this work and suggested I joined forums such as this one to see what could be done. There ends their interest !
When I first obtained the handset, I simply swapped over the SIM from my Nokia and there on the phone display was the 'line 2 diverted' symbol which I was familiar with but nowhere in the settings was there any reference to 'line 2'. The 'missed call on line 2' text alerts to line 1 worked normally but when I retrieved the voicemail on line 2 via direct dialling the Orange Message Centre from another handset, I received a text designed to clear the 'message waiting' symbol on the phone (which wasn't actually there) and this was deposited in my SMS 'inbox' as a message entitled '_£' ! Since the new SIM was enabled, these spurious symbol messages have stopped so presumably the handset is now telling the network that it only has one line active although I still get the missed call texts on line 1.
Does anyone out there have any knowledge on how 'line 2' might be made to work ? I've found a couple of registry edits mentioned for earlier HTC handsets but they don't seem to exist/work on this unit ??
Handset details:-
Operator version : 24.181.1.612
ROM version : 1.81.61.2 WWE
ROM date : 09/20/07
Radio version : 1.27.12.29
Protocol version : 22.45.88.07H
Thanks in hope !

As I recall, to enable MultiLine support in WM5/6, you want to add the following registry key:
[HKLM\Software\Drivers\RIL]
"MultiLine Capabilities"=dword:1

m2000 and line 2

hi i have a orange sim with 2 lines and when i put it into my m2000 i cannot find a way to select line 2, ive rung orange but they did not know if the m2000 supports line 2, can someone out there please help me. thanks in advance.
The SPV M2000 DOES NOT support Line 2.
It actually used to say this on one of the Orange Info pages about the SPV M2000 but I can't seem to find it now.
Sorry. You are out of luck
It does accept incoming calls and text's on line 2.
However as stated you can not text or phoen out on Line 2.
I was under the impression that this was a software issue and was being investigated by Orange ? ? ? ?

Yes it's definetly a software issue, because as you've said the phone does receive them, but I think it's more down to Windows Mobile 2003 SE. Does ANYONE have a Pocket PC phone that *does* support Line 2?
It's not going to be something Orange can fix though. At least... I wouldn't think they would be able to.
I've also noticed that it doesn't support Fax either :-( Same problems. Can receive on it, but not send via dedicated fax number :-(
(I'm using an XDA IIs, but the standard O2 ROM didn't do any Line 2 etc, nor does the iMate PDA2K ROM it's running now)
:-(
well based on this it does not support line 2 (long way down the text)

Fax is operator dependent (and you need the software)
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_ERK_Applications
Seems like T-mobile (Germany) can as they add the software in the EXT Rom.

Hi,
Yes I've got that software/operator support already, but it won't just automatically receive the fax number. At least I can't make it. There's only a "next call is a fax" which isn't particularly helpful.
And when you send a fax it goes from your primary number, not the fax number that's lined up with your account. That's the problem I have anyway.

My wasted day upgrading (not)

I have an MDAIII Purchased from T-Mobile in Germany.
This software "works" but there are several irritants which I wanted to cure. My overall goal was a device which would do:
-Motorcycle Navigation
-Palm with MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint
-Blackberry (My company requires it)
-Quad band phone (I travel to North America)
-WiFi
My previous device was a Blackberry 7290 and except for not doing everything I needed, it worked very well.
Now, I have to admit, this Blue Angel (I almost said "this Swiss Army Phone" but that would imply a quality many orders of magnitude beyond the HTC device) will do everything listed.
However;
- It won't send BB PIN messages (will receive them)
- I can't use it in English (replys to English mails say "Betr."
- MS Word doesn't support all the functions
- The missed call light only blinks for a fixed amount of time instead of going off when I've looked at the phone.
- The keyboard is the same size as the BB but unusable where the BB keyboard works very well.
- It requires several reboots a day
- The call quality is horrible and varies
- The Wifi range is half of the other devices I have
- PPT presentations say "made for an old unsupported version of PPT"
- Word doesn't support many of the formatting stuff I need
- Excel is also very limited in support
- I can't insert todays date and time in two keystrokes like I could on my first Palm years ago
- There is no standard command to close a program, it just stays in memory when clicking the red X
- The BB software doesn't handle the mails well (store, copy, delete, etc)
In the vain hopes of trying to conquer this thing I attempted to increase the software versions of the various programs.
After spending most of today failing, I am now resinstalling the T-Mobile version.
Here's what I tried:
I started last weekend with an update of the radio in an attempt to make the telephone problems go away.
After much much trial, error and reading (often in that order) I was able to use the trick of the entry in RUU.conf, and then the program MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to force foriegn upgrades onto the device.
I also learned that a .CAB file will run as an installable executable so I installed the Blackberry cab after updating the roms to 1.4 and the radio to something also very recent.
While what I saw looked good, I didn't play with this configuration very long because I found no matter what I tried (including downgrading the radio version), the Blackberry refused to work.
So now I'm on the way back to 1.22 rom (The current released software which can be downloaded shows dates on the .nbf files of 26 April 05.), and I find that the BB software here is newer (2.0.1.26-26) than the one I downloaded as a cab (2.0.0.25). This also has a few more whistles and bells in it.
I also found that the 1.4 imate roms in the RAR file here are different than the files downloaded from the Imate site. (These here have an O² splash screen)
One more time I have to commend the RIM people. It is evident that the devices were made by people who need to use them.
In the meantime, the reinstall has completed and I'm going to bed.
I think if I had it to do over again, I'd get a device with a built in GPS antenna but no phone, and just keep the BB.
A possible improvement?
After the pains of yesterday I did upload the newest Bluetooth cab I could find and ran it.
After a soft reboot I found the today screen scrambled but was able to fix this by reselecting the a windows theme.
A brief test shows that everything seems to be ok - phone and Blackberry works.
A missed call is indicated in the top line, and when I've looked at the call, the blinking light goes away. Thats an improvement but the incoming mails still make the light blink constant.
My old Bluetooth was 1.0.0.3900 (the newest software currently available fron T-Mobile Germany)
My new BT is 1.6.0 build 0600.
Time will tell if this is better.
There is a recent press release about HTC and RIM working more together so maybe sometime we will be able to send PIN mesages too.
This entire forum is fantastic and it is a shame on HTC that such a complex fourm is necessary to manage the junk they put on the market.
Good work all!

A question for xda gurus

Hi,
About two months ago during one of the numerous rom flashings on my SPVM3100 , I came across a strange issue. I called Orange many times and they changed my SIM card twice but finally said they don't understand this and gave it up. My SPVM3100 is over two years old - so they're not gonna replace the device.
Here's the issue:
whenever someone leaves me a voice mail, instead of receiving the normal "voice mail" notification and it's icon in Today screen, I receive a text message! These texts are unreadable (consisting of only 2 signs, like a triangle sign and an @ sign. Or an @ sign with an underline sign _).
Whenever I receive such texts , I know that I have a voice mail ! I dial the voice mail service, listen to the voice message and delete it. But each time my voice mail box becomes empty another annoying text is sent to me - perhaps cofirming that the mail box is now empty (I wish I could read this new sign language )
The phone shows that the texts are coming from the SIM Card !! (so we thought that perhaps the SIM has problems and that's why Orange changed my SIM Card twice).
This is really annoying.
The Orange tech people exhausted their knowledge for the past 2 months but couldn't solve this problem , gave it up altogether , and are now asking me to contact HTC ! (which I'm sure would be useless).
That's why I'm asking this from xda developers and gurus to see if they have any explanation for this bizarre behavior of my device.
Thanks for any insight and sorry to make a thread for this annoying issue.
have you tried flashing with a different rom? i know similar things would happen on motorola phones, and required hex editing of certain files to turn that feature off.

Fallen,
A six-month-old critically annoying problem was solved in 30 seconds
I am sure we all know xda developers and gurus are genius.
As I said in the post, almost all technical guys & gals in Orange did literally exhaust all their knowledge & experience in the past six months to solve this issue but it was obvious that they didn't absolutely have any clue what the cause of the problem was; whereas Olipro had found the cause and the remedy very quickly.
This is really serious because Orange is a huge multi-billion corporation and they claim to have their own top developers/programmers/technicians and yet they shamelessly suck !
Now on to my second question :
On almost all original (HTC and AT&T) ROMs , the HTC Home Plugin shows the network as "Orange". But on some of the cooked ROMs the network is shown as "UMTS Orange". I know the meaning of UMTS and I understand that whether the network is shown as "Orange" or "UMTS Orange" the phone appears to function the same.
I just want to know what happens in some cooked ROMs that the phone recognizes the network of the SIM card as "UMTS Orange" and not the usual "Orange" ? I talked to some Orange technicians, their replies are really rediculous - one of them kept saying: "you must change your mobile settings" ! But she didn't have a clue what she was talking about as she didn't know where those damn "mobile settings" were and how they could be changed! I can swear she had never held an SPVM3100 or a Kaiser in her hand.
I've searched the forum but haven't been able to find a clear answer yet. I am asking this question just to improve my personal knowlege on this issue.
Thank you for your guidance and insight.
hey,
I get the same problem too when installing new Cooked ROMs.
In order to get rid of the 'UMTS' in front of the Operator name you have to edit a registry entry.
Use a registry editor and navigate to: HKLM---> Software---->OEM---->Phone Setting
In there find an entry labelled 'Enable3GLongName' And change it from 1 to 0.
Restart you're device and it should just say 'Orange'
Hope that works

Thanks bro. Yesterday, before reading your reply I reflashed my device and
this nwe Binky11's V3.8 ROM got it right. So for now, I don't need to do the registery; however, I made a note of your advice for future reference.
I should keep reading to see what happens in most cooked WM6.1 ROMs that they get the network name as such and why the original ROMs get it right.
Thank you very much for your reply.

Verizon - Mogul/Titan/VX6800 "Network Connection" Issues

As many of you who have followed my previous rants already know, I recently upgraded from an out-of-the-box unit to a GPS enabled device - via a sampling of the 3.35+ Radio and the 5060+ ROMS - and have MAJOR problems when trying to access a non-WiFi internet, SMS or email connection - via Network Connection.
Although my PHONE continued to work fine, and I could send and receive instant Text messages... I could NOT send or receive ANY MMS or SMS transmittals. I could, however, access my email and the internet - via WiFi (at first), but - when I attempted to connect to same via Verizon Wireless... my Verizon VX6800 starts to connect via the #777 access, but will show an empty Password box on the Network Log On page (in other words it doesn't save the Password from a previous attempt - even after I type "vzw" and check the box).
At first - we were receiving error messages that said: "Error Code 11; PPP Connection Error" and "Network Connection Failure".
I can not begin to tell you how many times we took the battery out and did hard resets... as well as dialed "*228"...! I've even returned the device back to the original settings (ROM 2.09.605.8; Radio: 1.30.60) and - with the exception of the "Error Code 11" and PPP message... STILL have these connection issues.
Countless calls to Tech Support have finally put me in touch with one Ian Chamberlain... a most sincerely concerned, patient and articulate tech dude... who went the extra mile, and then some, to troubleshoot the problem. Yes, (as with all the others) he knew from the start that I had cracked the OS and upgraded from 6.0 to the much more desired 6.1 - with the needed GPS... and he STILL was willing to try to help.
In the course of his investigation, we discovered (much like that of a few fellow XDA-Dev'ers & PPCGeekers) that there was a Network setting (on Verizon's end...) that somehow required "resetting". Foregive me, but I've forgotten just what it was called... a DMU setting... I believe. Anyway... once that was preformed, we no longer received the afore mentioned "Error Code 11, etc." message - and now ARE able to receive MMS messages... but, still are NOT able to send or receive email OR access the internet on anything other than WiFi. A direct EVDO connection takes us to the Logon to Server page.
Thinking it may NOT be just be this device, Verizon has kindly offered to send us a NEW, out-of-the-box device (rather than a referb unit)... knowing I'm going to attempt to upgrade it. The current belief is - that in addition to the Network Connection Switch issue, we previously may have unwittingly been given replacement phones (from our local Verizon Wireless store) that may have been part of a "bad batch".
Once the new unit arrives (sometime tomorrow) I'll try it "as is" - in it's natural form... both via WiFi as well as direct - with a Network connection. If that works without flaw, as hoped, then we'll attempt to upgrade to the 2.40 boot loader, then the more stable 3.35+ Radio and N2C 5060 ROM... (that is, unless any of you have a better, more reliable suggestion).
Has anyone else had similar connection issues...? ANY helpful insight would be MOST welcomed, not just by me... but by many fellow VX6800/Mogul/Titan users, as well.
More to follow.

New tp2, few issues, need help

Hey guys,
I recently got my new tp2, I have 2 issues which I consider big:
- On the dialer interface (on the virtual one, not using keyboard), I see only from 1 to 9 (no * 0 # line), trying to press on the 1 button dials the number 4 instead of 1. Further research showed that pressing on the gray part, between the list of calls, and the first line of numbers of the dialer, dials the first line of numbers (1,2,3).
To sum it up, all lines are 1 line up in terms of result of the clicks, something like:
GRAY(1) GRAY(2) GRAY(3)
1(4) 2(5) 3(6)
4(7) 5(8) 6(9)
7(*) 8(0) 9(#)
The number in () are the actual result of the press.
Just to clarify, a line with *0# buttons doesn't visually appear on the interface.
I'm sorry for the weird explanation, couldn't find any good way to explain it.
- I don't see any way I can configure priorities for my internet connection, ie if there's currently USB internet connection (through my laptop for example), us it, otherwise if there is a WiFi connection, use it, otherwise use 3g/GPRS, etc.
You guys seems to know quite a lot about this phone already, I hope anyone has some solutions for me.
Cheers,
Nighthawk
