I have had a scout around and no one seems to have this problem so thought I would run it by you all..
I was using Schapps WM6 ROM (6.0) until a few weeks ago when I decided to upgrade to a Kaiser. I decided to reflash the Hermes ROM to T-Mobile UK's official WM6 ROM so that I could flog it. Now the camera comes up with no picture but Green lines. The picture reacts when the camera moves so it can't be the hardware - could it be a driver issue?
A hard reset does not work. Before I attempt a different ROM, I wondered if anyone else has this issue or had come across it.
See the JPG.
Cheers
p.s stuck the thread here in the WM6 forum because I think its s/w and therefore ROM related.
believe me, its hardware related...
probably try cleaning the camera contacts (if thats possible)...
It's for sure no software issue...
you should look after a take apart direction and follow it to clean the contacts...
Regards
Thanks, after a change of camera software and ROM it still shows. T-Mobile give two year warranties over here so hopefully they will repair to free of charge. Although if I can get into the handset without them finding out it will be much easier if I can fix it myself - HTC are not that good at admitting to faults with their products.

i can imagine it's form the contacts... but a hardware failure in general (camera related hw) is the most likely for this kind of symptoms... if i would be you i wouldn't open it, if i had warranty left ;-)
regards
after a lot of trying i decide to open my spv m3100 and take a look in it!so ...i open it i look at it clean it(although it wasn't necessary) and i reasembly the device!lucky me the camera wortk like a charm!i was very glad and i thought all my problem disapeared but..... after i doing first soft reset .......my camera show like in the bro attachaments!**** off!i was very unhappy and tried once again to fiox it!i decide to put radio version 1.51.00.10 (of course nothing happend) and after that i decide to use the old russian trick(kick the ****ing device with a hammer)!herhehheheeh!you'll never belive me but it works!heheheh!old russian trick always work!from now on i decide not to make any soft reset until one of you discover what happend in fact!
please do not apply russian method on your device(esspecialy with a hammer) take it easy but hit the buster!heheheh!
i think i found the mistery!at least to me it works!
be attentive:
on the back of the phone on camera is a little bumb!i move it up and down several times and oups the camera works!i made soft reset and again camera dosen't work and i repeat those up and down manouver and camera begin works!i made this operations several times and everytime after that manouver camera works!i belive that is a mechanical problem on camera!i take a look at camera and also at photo and i see a little arch maybe is decalibrated and possible that is the cause!it dosen't release something don;t no for sure!see the attachement!if your device is in warranties go to service to solve the problem if not ....well try what i said!

Hello All,
Since installing WM6 I have been having some strange screen issues. I suspect it is just coincidence. I have installed various different roms and I am having the same trouble ( currently latest lvsw ), making me think it's probably actually a hardware issue.
The screen behaves as if the top right corner is being pressed. This closes apps in portrait and brings up the start menu in landscape. It doesn't happen all the time, but doesn't stop once it's started.
Has anyone heard of this? Is this the same problem as the alignment issue? I have tried the buisness card fix to no avail. Should I take the phone apart as described in one of the fixes for alignement or do I need to send the phone off?
Yours hopefully...
Si
How old is your phone? Some models had screen alignment issues which could explain your problem. Have a look at this thread and see if your serial no (HTxxx) fits with those with known problems. If it does, read Mrvanx's guide to put your phone ROM/SPL etc back to original status then send it in for warranty.

Mine is a HT648 which doesn't have any known problems with screen alignment. I have moved to canada, so although I am still in contract with vodafone, it is very difficult to send it back for repair. It will be my fifth replacement if I do!!! All previous ones had the screen alignment issue, this one is at least slightly different.
I am tempted to try the dismantling fix described in one of the other threads, but perhaps I should ship it back to the uk for a friend to hand in to vodafone for repair and then have it shipped back over here...
If you open it you void your warranty. If it is the screen alignment issue and you fix it, then you are good. If you open it and it is not the screen alignment issue then you just voided your warranty and cannot get it readily fixed. I had an earlier TYTN and I had the screen alignment problem pretty bad. I opened it and fixed it. It was pretty easy.
I would probably try to install a different ROM and and see if it still happens.
Good luck.
Allan
I've tried lots of Roms, unfortunately that hasn't fixed it. Reflashing back to voda and sending back seems sensible, but I'm not sure I have that much pacience!
i did the business card technique. use a business card around the edges and take out some of the black brittle gasket. make sure you keep it real clean around the edges.
I used a microfiber cloth to get under there with some lens cleaner. I read on another screen alighnment post to put a small piece of business card under the lip of the lower portion of the screen(that probably doesn't make sense but do a search for screen alignment).
when you slide out the keyboard i loosened those screws a quarter turn. someone also made a mortscript for screenalignment that helped as well,

Hi !
I have the same problems with the same ht648. The problem occured step by step. First after upgrading to WM6 everything works fine. But since 25th my device starts problems with the touchsceen so I can tap on it everywhere without response. I think it is a thermical problem, because when I put it into the FRIDGE the touchscreen works again for a while.
Have same problem here i also have a v1605 HT648 and i have had it for a month now. It has worked well till yesterday when it started exhibiting this problem. I haven't done any ROM upgrade or anything.
This is really a pain - i hope i can get it replaced

Hey guys,
First of all, thanks to all the cooks, etc. on this forum - you've made my phone into a fantastic gadget instead of just a good one...
Unfortunately, I'm now having issues with my Orbit.
I've flashed various ROM's to the device over the last year, B&B, Bepe, Meschle ROM's all without a problem (few bugs as others have reported but nothing odd).
Recently my Orbit started crashing (frozen, no reaction to touchscreen or buttons), seemingly when I twist the case slightly or squeeze it slightly (the sort of thing which happens when the phone is in a jeans pocket etc.) Anyway, what appears to be a physical fault...
Sent back to O2 for warranty repair. When it came back to me, it looked like nothing had been done except to flash it back to WM5. (I left the official O2 WM6 on it when I sent it to O2)
Now I cannot get it to crash under WM5, but as soon as I flash ANY WM6 ROM to it, the crashes reappear. I've tried downgrading the Radio ROM to see if it's that, but no luck.
Any ideas what this could be guys?
If physical movement causes a crash it has to be hadware related. The fact it does it with WM6 is just a red herring.
I have the same problem after upgrading my P3300
pnyg
I would agree with you Danny that it's hardware-related, but I CANNOT get it to fail under WM5...!
Is there some part of the hardware which WM6 uses but isn't used in WM5?
I was also wondering whether it has anything to do with the SDHC as the first set of WM6 ROMs I flashed to the device worked perfectly well.
I've also noticed that my friend's Orbit has a white-coloured Rollerball but mine is a darker colour. Do I perhaps have an early model? Which perhaps can't handle SDHC?
Yeah, yeah, i know, have a lot of it on the forum, but, until now, i didn't find any real answer about it.
Sometimes i read that isn't hardware problem, sometimes i read that is.
Sometimes i read that need to change some keys on registry, but what keys?
The problem is the same of other users: the green and red key, videocall, Windows, Ok, "the left and right software buttons", the IE and Message buttons doesn't work. And the diretional buttons, the first time i press when i turn on the Hermes open the browser.
I don't know what to do anymore. That phone already stayed at the HTC Support for 3 months, and came back with the same problem. BTW, the HTC Support is a @#&ยจ%$$!!!!!
OK, atleast try a different ROM first, ie schaps or pandora naked???
IF it works on the newer ROMs then theres your answer.
Is the device a Tytn, Vario II, 8525 etc..?? ie let us know which brand it is.
I've tried a lot of ROM's, but not the newer ones. I'll try today. I'll try Pandora Naked and Schaps, in this order, and will post the results.
My device is a TyTN.
Tried the both ROM's (Schap's and Pandora) and still have problems with the buttons.
Hardware issue, suggest a 3rd party repair facility??
mrvanx, i've read something about the registry. Changing some keys in the registry i can solve this problem? Is there anyway to be something like that? I think, in a hard reset or a ROM change, the registry goes to the original situation. Therefore, if was a registry problem it'll be solve doing that HR. Am i right?
Like i said, it already stayed on the HTC Support for almost 3 months and they do NOTHING about it.
Anyway, thanx Mrvanx, i think that will be the solution.
Sounds like you're out of luck. I'm using an AT&T 8525 with WM6 and excluding the d-pad, all of the front buttons do not respond. The bug appears to be in the software since I, along with many of the other with this trouble, have attempted the hard reset are able to do so successfully (which requires holding down both of the soft menu buttons under the screen). I have also tried the hardware solution posted by another user and it was not successful with my device. Thanks for the remarks regarding HTC. I'll avoid sending my device to them.
Scg033, good luck. I'm trying to take my friend's TyTN and checking the registry. The seller insists that my problem is not a hardware problem. This is my last chance to try something. I'll try today and will post the results, anyway.
Well, i've tried to look into another TyTN's registry and made mine exacly like that one and... Nothing Happens. Still having problems. I think it's not a software problem.
I have a cingular 8525 and now running vp3g's version of WM6. I have tried multiple roms trying to get my camera to work again but none of them seem to do the trick. I had a older version of vp3g's rom from maybe 6 months ago and everything worked fine. If anyone can help me you would make my day. Thanks!
if its a hardware issue (which it most likely is) no amount of rom flashing is gonna miraculously fix it
Well, camera worked fine previous to flash.
i also upgraded my radio... does that have anything to do with it?
try the old rom and you see if its software or hardware related...
mmm... i dont have the old rom
what was the old rom??
it was an ATT rom from vp3g when WM6 just came out.
I also ran Hard SPL v2, would that cause the camera not to work?
What error message are you getting? Old ROM in the sense, the official ROM that came with the phone WM5.0, before you put on WM6.0. Flash back to WM5.0 and see if camera works!
no error message, just... nothing. if i press camera button depending on the rom goes to pics / videos or task manager. Also noticed Flashlight and super bright dont launch. I found my old rom from september and it also did the same thing!
I may resort to WM5 i just installed wm6.1 and i like it alot... same issues still.
I had similar issues.... it's definitely hardware problem
a piece of cable which connected to camera was unplugged
brought to service center and just took about 5 minutes to repair it.
Or you could try to repair it by yourself
I dont know... it worked fine untill i flashed it!
Im running wm 6.1 now, the rom from Pays. Chose to stick with it because its the nicest of all and still has same issues.
1. No camera (loading icon comes up and goes away quickly)
2. Flash light doesnt work
3. Super bright doesnt work
4. MMS Doesnt allow "new" or allow for open settings
5. Crashes when going into any "Video's" in the picture and video viewer.
I tried WM5 from att, htc, and wm6 from att. Tried about 15-20 other popular cooked roms and they all had the same issues.
These issues didnt happen previous to my old flash, which was just a wm6 from att.
Today i did the folllowing before i noticed these issues:
Flashed HardSPL v7 (2.0)
Flashed in radio v 1.5...
Flashed in WM6.1
---then the day began!
I have also tried downloading 3rd party camera applications which also seem to be crashing on load. Im not sure what it all has to do with one another but i'd really like to get this phone back up and running 100%. Im a perfectionist and i will loose sleep over it!! HELP ME!
thanks

Yup that is exactly same symptoms like my hermes.... it happened after i flashed with wm6.1 rom, first i thought it was because of the rom.....apparently it wasn't
there was camera connector cable unattached with the mainboard
Still confuse though why it began after i flashed WM6.1 rom.
But now my camera & flashlight working perfectly fine
what about MMS?
same issue
my camara also stop functioning when I upgraded to wm6, the HTC realease for ATT 8525, when I go to the camara function it goes right to the pictures and video viewer

Have you made sure the keys are mapped correctly? if the camera button is bringing up task manager, REMAP your keys.
I have the same problem with camera. But it does not work without any reason. Additionally battery discharges very fast (from 80% to 20% during night). Flashing several roms including win 6.1 has not solved the problem. I am going to service center.
About 2 weeks ago, my camera simply stopped working. Any app that uses the camera simply opens to a black screen and then becomes unresponsive.
I've tried a full factory reset to no avail. Before sending the camera for repair, is there anything else I can try. I did check the forum and elsewhere to see if this was a known issue with the DHD or an individual firmware vesion, but nothing obvious.
I'm running 1.72.405.3
Thanks for any pointers
Daz
Hi Daz,
It does sound like your camera's sensor has failed. I had a similar issue with my HTC Hero when I got that many moons ago. This would be covered by the manufacturers warranty so you'd be entitled to a replacement or repair.
Did the camera only fail once the update had been applied? As i think and i'm not 100% but i think that the cam is one of the things which the update is for, maybe you could try a custom rom to see if the update has caused it, I can't see why but it could be.
My Hero's camera would not work with anything over 1.5, any custom rom or even the stock 2.1 update would cause my phone to reboot after every second usage of the phones camera, it was very annoying and because it was a persistent problem which was no fault of my own, i didn't pay for the replacement, so maybe look into it, it may save you a few bob getting it fixed, unless your getting it for free.
Just a thought.
To be honest it could well have been after an update, I just can't tie the two events together in my head.
The phone will be fixed for free as it's still under warrantee, I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to avoid having to send it away for what could be weeks. I do suspect it's a hardware issue so prob best just to let HTC deal with it and send me back a working phone.
Thanks all.
Daz
I also have this problem, any updates on the issue? I really don't want to be without my phone for weeks! The camera only stopped working after I flashed from Leedroid 1.2 to cyanogenmod 6.1.3 then flashed back to Leedroid
Hi,
I'm afraid I don't know just yet. I sent the phone away for repair and it's still being worked on. I'll let you know what they said when I get it back.
