no can do mate. unless you get hold on and solder in wifi chipset which is very unlikely to happen. say thank you to tmobile, but well, £8 per month is not that bad for unlimited gprs internet usage.
yeah i guess, cheers prohibeat!

I am tempted to go for the orange spv m2000 -although it costs more than the MDAIII- if I can use it with my orange 3G usim where I've got lots of free data allowance. Alternatively, I would go for TMobile but I would have to take one of these expensive data bundles.
Has anyone tried to use the SPV M2000, or the xda2s or the MDA III with a 3G SIM card from the same operator? Does it work?
I've read 2.5G phones would not accept 3G usim cards, but I spent the past couple of weeks in Canada where I used my Orange 3G USIM card in an unlocked Vodafone-branded Nokia 6600... and it worked great!
Any help would be much appreciated.
There is no reason why a 3G sim can't work in any 2G phone. Of course you will only get GSM/GPRS and not 3G services. I've used one in various xda's and no problems at all.
Having said that I have heard reports that sims from the '3' network don't work in xda's. Dont know if thats true.
Great
That's great, many thanks.
Are you happy with your xda? Is that the O2 one? Are you allowed to browse outside O2 active? and how much are you charged for gprs browsing?
cheers

ok i have been using 3G sim for few months. it able to send and receive MMS from my Motorola A780 and Sony Ericsson w800i if i edit the MMS setting. However, it does not work for XDA mini and XDAIIs. Normal phone call in and out and GPRS browsing is fine. But MMS cannot send and receive ..... anyone can ?
hi, guys! i've same reason that I'd like my BA workable with USIM but don't know what to do then. any help would be appreciated. thanx
Hi, will i be able to use the Three Simcard in the phone? it is a xda orbit. i am picking it up tonight and would like to know. thanks
From what I can remember, the answer is No, 3 monitor the imei's of handsets connecting to their network.
I remember this being discussed a couple of years ago.
It may work for a few weeks/months but you may receive a phonecall requesting your sim to be put in one of their handsets
3 is a 3G network which drops down to 2.5G when 3G is not available. As the Orbit is not a 3G capable phone I think it unlikely that a 3 sim will work in the Orbit.
Hi! I have the same problem con 3 italian sim. Htc p3300 didn't never work!!!
Have I a possibility that it works by some manner?

Old thread bump.
I have just tried a 3 UK sim in an Orbit - and I was able to make and receive voice calls without changing any settings. But as other posters have said, 3 take a dim view of people using their sims in non-3 branded handsets and may cut off your sim without warning.
I have the choice of an Orbit or Compact III and am interested in user feedback.
I prefer the Orbit for the wireless, but the T-Mobile Flext package is superb.
Has anybody experienced any issues/performance probs with either handset??
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Happy Compact III user here. I don't notice lack of wi-fi due to having all I can eat GPRS from T-Mobile, wherever I am. No looking for hotspots.
Shame the device wasn't 3g too, that would have been icing on the cake, but I decided the built in GPS was more important to me, than waiting a few more seconds for a web page to load etc.
Go with the T-Mobile unit I use the HTC P3300 Artemis and the T-Mobile C-III derivative and to be honest I cannot remember the last time I switched the WiFi on when using the HTC device, it is simply not needed IMHO when you look at the Web-n-Walk tarrif by T-Mobile it simply makes sense - unless O2 wake up they are going to loose a lot of customers - Mike
I have the compact 111. Never ever froze on me, and never had corrupt sd card either. I use web 'n' walk all of the time. I use "internet sharing" with my laptop and I can't fault the service. WIFI would be handy when I'm at home, but then again I'm out of the house and no where near hotspots for 9 hours of the day.
Or get a Compact III from Holland I have a Compact III and it has WiFi too! lucky dutchman right hehehe..
I work at motor racing circuits, they all have WiFi. As you drive down the motorway all services have WiFi. I have WiFi at home, all my friends have WiFi. My Mums house (in her 80's knows nothing about computers) has 6 WiFi networks in range, of which 2 are open. If I drive 15 miles to a friends house through Loughborough I go through 19 Wireless networks. Most bars now have WiFi, all hotels do etc...and remember WiFi = Broadband, GPRS dosnt.
Why limit your choice?
Why limit your choice?
Good point, but in certain countries you have to remember that using a Wifi Network without authorisation of the owner is an offence.
Personally I had Wifi on my JAMin but only used it occaisionally in my house (I don't have a router so my PC had to be on to get access to the Internet through it, a facility I have through Bluetooth.
There is no doubt Wifi is the future but at the moment WebWalk suits me fine personally.
Regards
lol, so you can use a bunch of hotspots that you know.
And I can use anywhere I can get a phone signal.
Who has the limited choice again?
How much does O2 charge for GPRS again?
I have the T-Mobile device because of the web and walk tariff which gives me unlimited data when on the move. It's used mainly for work, so the Push e-mail with no extra data costs is a real plus.
I did consider the Orbit, but since the handset was free on T-Mobile and O2 wanted over £120 per handset (we have 3 as a business), it was a no-brainer. With O2 data costs, it would be a significantly higher monthly cost also.
hello all,
does this artemis phone work with EDGE? i have seen some screenshots of peoples today screens and i noticed the Edge icon on the top of their screens!
i have a O2 XDA Orbit and i have unlimited internet package on my contract from Vodafone so i just needed to know if edge was possible?
i have had my sim card from vodafone for about 3 years now so i wondered if it was maybe just coz i had a old sim or if it was just not possible for edge on this phone??
any help in solving this problem would be great...
thanks
.Kev.
The Artemis definitly works with EDGE. But it isnt shown on a official rom. Its always shows the G for GPRS. You must change this reg entry from 0 to 1.
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon
And it dosent work overall. Only T-Mobile is covering whole Germany with EDGE Service, for instance.
Since before having the diamond i was looking forward to using HSUPA for data, although since having the diamond i've only been able to use it in spain so far, and since i live in the uk, not so great for me, i can get edge/gprs/3g fine, although after being abroad and noticing how fast hsupa is i'm kinda annoyed my phone doesn't do it here?
first off, i've tried various roms/radio's on my diamond and another xda ignito branded diamond, cannot get it to work.
now another friend of mine has the xda ignito branded diamond, and her protocol version is xx.xx.xx.xxH my diamond and the other ignito i have access too have the protocol version xx.xx.xx.xxU the ones with U cannot get a HSUPA connection in the uk it seems, but the H version seems to get H virtually everyware, generally if our phones pick up edge she can pick up h connection.
the thing that confuses me, is that all 3 phones have had the same radio installed, i've now rolled mine back to various different ones and always get the U protocol, i don't want to reinstall a radio on the one that works incase it messes it up, the protocol version changes but never the letter on the end?
i'm not 100% sure but its the only thing i can think of, since until a few weeks ago the H protocol phone and mine were both running the same rom/radio.
anyone got any ideas? its really bugging me now!
*****
have since found out the H/U and i belive W are nothing to do with the radio whatsoever, depends on what you have selected in advanced network settings, HSDPA only gives the protocol H, HSDPA/HSUPA gives the protocol U, and you get W if you disable them.
however, its not help me get a HSDPA connection which my friend still gets on the same network with the same phone!
possible that sim cards affect it? hers is new in november, i've had my sim for at least 4 years, its the only thing i can think of! hence my other friend she's had her sim for around 4 years too, soon as i can try a newer sim i'll give it ago see if it affects it
also all 3 phones are on the o2 network, i sold my diamond upgrade and had my sisters 'orange' phone as i wanted to buy the offical extended battery
thats the most annoying thing, we are all using o2 yet only one of us can get hspda
have u try to install advance network where u can actived hsdpa

yup, tried both 'Enable HSDPA/HSUPA' & HSDPA only options
I personally notice that the ROM affects the radio protocol. Even if it's H before, once I flash into some other ROM and hard reset, the protocol changes to U. I'm not very sure, I cannot confirm, but that's what I felt.

edited my first post to say why the change, can't belive its so simple!
but yes when changing rom and radio it did change, but then it changed back without doing it, thats what made me look into it
