Dead O2 XDA Zinc...help!!! - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I bought an O2 XDA Zinc just yesterday and successfully updated to WM6 (downloaded via official site: http://www.seeo2.com/user/XdaZinc/template/XdaZinc_WM6_Aug2007_WWE.vm)
My problem started when i was not able to make/receive any calls so i tried soft resetting the device. This did not solve my problem so i proceeded to hard resetting but still the problem persisted. To make matters worse i left the phone to charge for about 10mins and now the phone refuses to boot. It's completely dead. I've tried soft resetting and also removing the battery but still no luck...
Guy's if anyone has come across this problem then do help me out here...i'll wait for your replies before taking it to the customer care centre

breathe....breathe...phew!!...
i am patient...i hope that someone will give a reply with the solution soon

so,did u fully charge ur Battery before starting ur Zinc...?if ur phone cannot make/receive any calls,i think it's caused by ur ROM...u should flash ur ROM again...now u can find a nice battery for Zinc, try to starting ur phone after fully charged...i will post ur problem to some other PDA bbs later...u know,in China,we have a lot of Gosu~Good Luck

thanks for d reply man...didn't fully charge it but battery was about 50% when this happened...m gonna charge the phone for a few hours now and hope for the best

i forgot to mention that before the crash the imei showed some weird symbols like ";!?92:04..."

...so...how about now?it works...?

btw,do not use USB cable to charge ur Phone at the first time...in fact, can use AC as prossible as u can~

yeah i did charge with d provided AC charger for about 2-3 hrs...it did start once, passed d boot screen n froze at a white screen, so i restarted again and now it's as dead as can be...guess i have to visit the customer care...vil keep u updated...thanks

well,if u think it will take u a lot of time to solve ur promble through the official customer,i have some other advise for u~u can contact me with MSN.([email protected])...i can tell u the details~

well it is...infact all my problem started when i updated my wm5 to wm6...ended up not getting calls though network was detected...now after restoring wm5 phone is terribly slow and imei number doesn't show up at Settings page or either shows some weird symbols... *#06# fails too...waiting for activesync to detect phone (it takes 10-15 mins to boot phone) so that i can try wm6 upgrade again...i'll report later

well finally submitted the O2 Zinc at the customer care n it seems they'll report back only on wednesday...they said it might be mainboard problem...really??? let's see

Thanks guys for all the help...finally got my O2 Zinc back and they said that all the problem was caused by faulty PCB so they changed it as it was under warranty and now it's back to WM5 again....hmmm...wondering whether i should try upgrading to WM6 again...what say you?

no harm if u want to try

hey guys m back again with a different problem....now i got people complaining to me about radio like static noise while talking to me whereas i can hear them crystal clear.....anybody experienced this????

Total Newbie with Orange SPV M2000 Questions

Hi - great site loads of good info
Ok i have a few questions i cant seem to work out even after reading ! so no laughing !
Phone is a SPV M2000 on Orange monthly pay sim,
What is a Radio Rom ? - does this mean this phone has a radio built into it ? if so how do i unlock it / get it to work ?
My Operator version is 5.31.1.162 / ROM 1.31.00 but i have some problems with the phone - mainly when the phone rings or i dial people ..... basically we cant hear each other or talk, kind of like its on mute or something ? ..... a soft reset usually sorts it but it is really annoying and happens on and off ...... also the phone seems slow ? ..... i have slid the memory line over to 2/3 system memory but still a very slow i think ? .... ive tried searching for a patch that someone talked about but cant find anything ?
Can i upgrade to a new ROM ? ..... id like a UK spec if possible as i don't want funny things going on to the system in foreign languages !!! i have seen a T mobile one, could i use this ?
i have just done the sim unlock and it seems to be ok although i haven't tried on another sim yet
please try and keep it simple, with good links etc if needs be
Thanks in advance
Dave
Hi
Ill answer what I can, as im pretty new to this too.
The radio is not a FM type radio, but the electronics that do things like WIFI and Bluetooth.
The no sound issue is a well reported bug.
I have an orange spvm too and I had it replaced.
The support line took ages to acknowledge the fault, but in the end replaced the phone and this so far is working well.
If for you it does not, then by law you can reject the phone as having an inherrent fault regardless of how old it is, as it was not of mechantable quality when you got it.
The speed,
I noticed that even when you click the little X in the top corner, the app is still running, so this will slow it down.
Your best bet maybe to every now and then do a soft reset just to clean things up.
The Tmobile Rom.
Not sure, as Im also thinking about this.
What I want to know is , will this Rom give me Tmobile settings?

Hi Dave - Welcome.. Remember, we all have to start somewhere..
The first thing I would recommend is reading.. I'm not too sure if you've discovered the Wiki on here but this is truely the best place to start..
So, simple links:
Start here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel
A link from this page (titled Getting Started With Your Blue Angel) will lead you to updating your BA to where it will be of most benefit.
This is where you need to start thinking of what's of more use to you.. I, for example, have not updated my BA to WM2005 (or WM5 as it's more commonly known) as I would not be able to Sync with my Work PC easily. In other words, the latest is not always the best! You need to think of how you're going to use your BA and by trial and error, get to your own conclusions. Although saying that, feel free to seek advice on how others have reached a similar conclusion.
If a "seach" (top of the screen - Highly recommended  ) doesn't reveal an answer you're looking for then a simple post with something like "Having problem "X".. Anyone else have it..?" is a lot better then "NEEDED - ANSWER TO MY WORRIES!"
This is outlined here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4534
My second piece of advice is to make sure you know what you're doing.. If fiddling with yor BA is going to lead you somewhere you don't know then perhaps fiddling with it is not what you should do. I don't want to see posts from you stating "HELP - MY BA's BU**ERED!" because you thought that Reading Wiki was for saddos
Remember - Don't run before you can walk..
Tip for Hearing problem - Turn on the Bluetooth and keep it on.. This is a well documented tip for solving the issue.. Updating to the 1.42.00 Spec ROM will also help too but you're right in saying that it will give you the T-Mobile settings.. What you can do there is use the search facility to find if someone has posted a .CAB file with the Orange SMS/MMS Settings
So, start reading..
Hope this helps..?
Cheers,
Hi Dave
Great response by Mr Philly and I wholly endorse everything that is stated.
I am also a newbie (I think this is my first post) and if you want to know anything, wiki is the place to go.
There is a newer Orange UK ROM avalible (Not as new as the T-Mobile ROMs and part of which I have used in my own update) and if you follow the steps through wiki you find out how to apply the roms and where to find them.
I have read in this forum on a number of occassions don't mess with it unless you are prepared to lose it and that must be kept in mind. That said I been really pleased this the usage and function with my SPV since making the ROM updates and my thanks goes to a number of very gifted contributors.
Good luck
simjo.
Hi Guys -
Listen, many thanks for taking the time to reply .... I have read a fair bit but was starting to get muddled up with all the acronyms etc .......
But i now have a more important issue at hand ...... i went out last night and lost my 512 memory card (bugger !) ...... must have un clicked out (i was a bit merry last night) ..... anyway ...... i went to use the phone this morning and its silent ...... no sounds whatsoever, no ring tone , no key pad tones , no sound when playing media files etc .... silent as a whistle .......
long story short i reset it (soft) first ........ no joy ...... then hard reset ..... when booting up it pings and makes a few sounds, so the speaker is obvisously working ....... then once reset its silent again ..... ???
But this is the really bizarre thing ..... if you plug it into the mains charger it all works fine, with loads of lovely sound !!!! ....
Ive made sure the sound is turned up to max and its not on silent etc btw
Time to read the forum i think ! ...... the only thing i did last week was unlock it ..... but its been working fine since then ?
cheers
Dave
next weird update !
after 2 days i have upgraded to the latest roms etc and the phone still had no sound .... i left it on charge for a full day overnight etc , still no sound ...... came to play with it this morning and there it is all working as good as new !!!! ...... lovely sound etc, all normal ......... go figure that one out ?????

Radio 1.4.10 Update on FTP ?

I saw an Radio Update Version 1.4.10 on the FTP-Server - did anybody try it jet ?
Have it installed.. Everything ok till now
It makes me wonder that the file is from 15.11.2005 but the Radio-File in the latest O2 Package is from 2.12.2005. But the O2 one is "only" an older Version...
So this "New" one looks supicious. Also its provided without the normal installation-files all that makes me wonder where that might be from.
Took the plunge and went for the upgrade. 1st impression: everything works fine. Now to test with PocketZenPhone active for GPRS reconnects, to see battery life on this version and to see Bluetooth behaviour.
Incidentally, I believe it's not fake. The Hong Kong Dopods are rigged with this radio version if I am not mistaken.
I'd like to try but how do I install it? (only radio)
Thnx
take the original O2 rom, extract everything except the NBF files, put the 1.4.10 radio.nbf in the same directory and run the cracked MaUpgradeUt_NoID.exe that you can find on XDA-Developers
at the country ID error, run MaUpgradeUt_NoID.exe one more time
Thnx Wiz, I had thought about that and actualy delete nk and ms in the dir and replaced the radio.nbf and started the MaUpgradeUt_noID and saw that it showed only the radio update in the prog indeed but I didn't start the upgrade yet as I was afraid it would erase my device again.
If I understand wel it won't?
can u please confirm?
Thnx in advance
It will work flawlessly. Just soft reset afterwards. No need to hard reset, all your information will be safe.
Hi
The radio_1.4.02 has the same size (10.385KB) of the radio_1.4.10 what it would be the diference?

Ok, I did it... no problem and nothing lost on my previous config..
Hard to see any difference, wait and see

Did anyone do a compare either of the decrypted NBF file? Of course, you can't do a straight compare of the encrypted one, as changing one byte of the decrypted file will make the entire encrypted file different...
I'm hoping there's something substantially different between 1.04.02 and 1.04.10... Anyone?
I don't know if I'm just going crazy, but after the upgrade, the sound quality seems to have improved significantly. I need to try it at full volume to be sure.
just out of intrest my Vodafone v1630 came with this radio version (1.4.10), and ive had no problems wot so ever with it.

Ive never had that problem as such at worst I get a delay of 1 ring max, I do get a slight delay answering the phone using the hardware buttons but its not much
OK, after using the phone for a while, I don't see that much of a difference in sound after all. It might me a bit better, but I can't tell for sure.
This radio is 1.04.10 not is 1.4.10
Have fun.
It does n't improve the lousy reception anyway

XDA Exec Now Zombiefied After Failed Upgrade. Is It Terminal

You've poss heard this un afore. But so far .. this `un aint been resolved, readers. Just got me a XDA Exec and daftily `upgraded' the ROM to exactly the same one as already installed (d'oh!). Aye .. but what happened was that the process failed just as the installation ended .. wih a communication error. Twixt PC and XDA. When I came to reboot .. the unit .. he dead!. The only spark of life is to hard reset. Do this . and you get the bootlaodaer screen showing the Serial 1.oo logo and Press X to quit and 0 to restore. You press 0 .. it just flickers the wee Red power light fleetingly .. but .. he dead, man!. And heres where the quandary comes in .. if you connect up .. even whenin the Bootloader screen. the unit is not seen as owt .. and Windows says its not being recognised when you plug it in .. so ActiveSync wont work and the ROM Updater cant see it .. failing before even trying to install. So there we have it. The unit has no ROM in it. Like a PC without a BIOS. Kinda Catch 22. ITs a dead unit ... only shwoing any life when yu do the hard reset. Shows a Bootloader screen. So do a soft reset? You get a dead unit again. If ou take out the battery and put on mains power ... then the red charge light comes on PUt in the battry.. unit goes blank again. Someone said you can link two XDAs together and do it that way. Really? Then how?. And how DO you get the PC to see it as a XDA?. Most infuriatingn. So really hardware wise its pristine .. its a software thingy!. If you know or even know a man who knows .. then point him/her this way and lets get this baby (XDA EXEC) back to post - resuscitated state Please. Cheers y'all in anticipation and sorry if this subject has already bin solved. Ive seen like-letters but no actual `fix' .. personally I think its return to Taiwan and get their EPROMmer guys to look into it. Can you help?Ta Bruce E Bonuspoints
Think you can edit your post and at least separate it into paragraphs?
Just some curiosity. I'd be willing to help, but I'm too lazy to read it like that.
If you bootup the XDA without the usb cable connected, when it goes into bootloader mode, it should say serial, if you then plug the usb sync cable, it should change to usb on the screen.
at this point, you want to run the rom upgrader software, it might take more than one try to get it to do the biz, I know, cause it took me three times via the sync cable when I tried to upgrade the rom via bluetooth (a mistake I won't be doing in a hurry ), thinking the cable connected was the usb sync cable and not the mains cable.
this might be of some help too http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=36115
p.s. take a deep breath and don't panic.
*edit* also found this, which might also help http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37135
Exact thing happened to a friends JASJAR, this is what happened:
1. Same as above and it seems it corrupted the USB drivers so:
1.a. removed the USB drivers in device manager
1.b. rescanned for hardware changes to reload new USB drivers
2. Have to uncheck USB in ActiveSync Connection Settings
3. Hard reset your Universal till SERIAL shows
4. Plug the Universal and wait for SERIAL to change to USB
5. Unpack the ROM update to a directory
6. Delete all .nbf files except Radio_.nbf
7. Run the update (this will update radio only)
8. after Update, Hard reset ( __ + __ + Reset hole)
9. this should revive your Universal.
Then you can update normally again.
Don't forget to re-check USB in ActiveSync connection settings to enable active sync to work
Goodluck.... Just update us
Cheers for the responses .. EXEC lovers!. And sorry about the non-presence of paragraphs to the reader who doesn't like long sentences.. but thats nonstop streams of conscienceness f'yuz!
There .. happy now?. Right .. will now nip off and read the links and take up the advice of the chaps who jolly well had the good decency to reply .. I'll let you know .. soon! Here goes, Ronnie! ......

 Thanks to Messrs. WYTEY and in particular Mr. Jorgee ... MY XDA EXEC has risen from the dead! Thats right .. its back!. I WAS going to write and say it no go from Serial to USB ... mister!. But then tried it on missus's laptop .. it gets recognised.. but not on daughter's PC. Why Winston?. Then d'oh!. And Double D'oh!. The USB cable I am using is off an old memory card reader .. which cable is probably a bit crap. So I used the dedicated one... and .. voila! Back to life .. using the Radio ROM only. Tried the full install .. it no want to know .. back to lifelessness. Tried again .. this time its full and happy as it were. So once again great thanks directed to the Johnny JORG bloke and the WYTEY William whoc came to my assistance. You have just got me £500 of kit back!. I am writing to the Queen to see if you can both be knighted. I am also Royalty .. at least I think I am .. only today I cut this bloke up at a junction in my car and he called me a `Count'!. CHEERS YOU XDA HEROES!!!!!!!!!!
 no probs
Glad to have helped in the resurrection of your phone. This wasn't the first time so I was kinda familiar with the process. Good thing that it was recognized in the laptop. How about now? Does your computer recognize it? My friends USB port of the PC suddenly wento into UNRECOGNIZED USB DEVICE mode mid-upgrading. Don't know what caused the problem though.
The unit has the `hump' now and then but now for general file transfers the cheap cable works fine . .when you do serious stuff like ROM upgrades.. tis the official cable. So its being recognised now and ActiveSync is fine. I do have probs finding a decent PDF viewer.. ClearVue and Adobe still cant display/flow the pages right .. never worked on the Nokia 9500 either really... and also want to know if its poss to use the videocam in MSN Messenger Mobile? But now.. its fine. it works .. and the upgrade fully happy! CHeers again!. Now . .whens the next upgrade coming? Aye!

O2 XDA IIs problem...

Hello~ How ya doing ppl? Hope ya r all fine...
I have a PPC O2 XDA IIs and I just hope ya can help me with my problem... I just hope ya can forgive my ignorance about PPC... I bought the PPC with the latest O2 rom with windows mobile 2k3 SE, which I had a lot of problems with the auto hard reset thing... So several months ago I installed a random wm5 rom, that kept reseting by itself but never lost any data so I was happy with that because i didnt have 2 backup and restore all the time... Yesterday, I installed the Helmi Rom AKU 3.2 rom, which I really love this rom cuz made my PPC much faster and has a lot of new stuffs pretty usefull...
The problem I have is that my PPC keeps resetin by itself, even if I'm not using it... The rom works perfectly to me, but even though I dunno why my PPC keeps resettin by itself... I've tried searchin for months and found some answer that are no longer useful for me... Many ppl uninstalled the O2 connect and take out the connection.exe from the startup... But with this rom, I dont have O2 Connect neither I have the connection.exe...
Hope ya can help me, i've been tryin for months tryin to solve this without any luck and I cant buy another model, because in the country where I live they dont sell good PPC...
I really appreciate yar help and ill be lookin forward for yar answer...
Well, Im gonna keep searchin some answers... Thank you...
u havnt jammed anythin in the reset button have u ??? (stupid question i know but i did it got stylus tip stuck in and kept resetting itself)
No, it's not stuck... I rarely reset it by myself... I only did it when I upgraded the ROM... Even though, Im gonna check to be sure~
Thanx for yar answer... Im still searching but its kinda hard~ I really dunno wut 2 do~
Check your battery...if ti's not an original battery you may have this issue. I purchased an extended battery and used with my XDA IIs, worked fine for quite a while and then....boom hard reset...I thought it was the OS / SW / apps - changed all without success. Then after reading on here about issue people were having with non-original batteries I stopped used the extended...resulting in the issue resolving...check out the accessories forum for further info.
Thanx for yar answer... Even though, I have 2 original batteries so I don't think its an battery issue... But, I've been searching and finally found something different... Many ppl were having problems with the Resco Today Plugin, they uninstalled it and they said they made their PPC more stable...
I'm gonna try it, and somedays later I'll let ya know...
*I already uninstalled the Resco Today Plugin... So far, its working perfectly... Maybe it was the same problems were having some users who owns Axim and O2 XDA IIs... I'll let ya know, some days later if its already solved...
do u mean the o2 today plug in????? to get rid of it u can hard reset and set it to corporate and the code is 0506 even though im sure i saw this posted elsewhere......<.<
No, I meant Resco Today Plugin... I already upgraded to WM5, so the O2 Connect its gone...
Even though, I solved my problem... I don't have any resets at all~ Its the same thing with the AXIMs... The only thing ya have to do, is to disable any today plugin that see how much battery left ya have or any kind of stuffs that analize or check yar hardware...
I replaced the Resco Today Plugin with the SPB Pocket Plus, taking out the battery and memory bar...

The phone is not ready wait 15 seconds and try again

i am a newbie of Vodafone (PH20B2),
Device Version is
Rom Version : 1.31.00 WWE
Rom Date 12/13/04
Radio Version : 1337.42
Extrom Version : 1.31.175 WWE
with Windows mobile 2003 Second Edition
the problem is that sometime i could not receive the call , the message occurs "unable to answer the call".
When i try to tab phone icon the message " The phone is not ready wait 15 seconds and try again" occurs .
anybody could help me what to do.
I am getting the same problem why is this?
I have a o2 xda IIs, i have installed WM6 Pro CE OS 5.2.1933 (Build 18533.0.7.0) Updated [30.11.2007]
i face the same problem, furthermore i realize when the battery is near 30% da phone becomes buggy in the sense dat messages stop getting sent and after soft resets da trouble is the network stops getting detected only after 5 minutes i see network signals,as soon as i hookup the phone with power the sms problem is immediately solved!
It may be helpful to note i have not installed any third party software and the phone has been hard reset only a few days ago!
Does the parite virus affect the phone? i installed parite infected .exe software through AS 4.5 and as a precaution hard resetted the phone following that!!
furthermore tapping answer doesnt work and the call automatically gets disconnected!!!
Try Upadating your ROM to Xplode's one. And yes one important thing , always keep your bluetooth on ( you may uncheck the beam option). This may solve your problem.

NO dont do that. it will drain your battery faster if bluetooth is on.
make sure it is OFF and also check the infrared (Beam).
You're battery might be failing to power up the phone module.
Try a new battery.
I've experienced some used battery.
Below 30% is very critical for ALL PocketPC operations, this is the point where some glitch tends to pop-up because the battery cant support
the power requirement of the hardware in which the software was using
(Ex. Phone, Camera, LCD, Speaker, Mic, Digitizer) thus, it fails bigtime or sometimes crashes.
Except if your battery is newer where the 30% which steadily and accurately give power to our BA.
And make sure you terminate all your programs if you've finished using it, if it is running it might affect the power consumption because it is still present in the memory.
anyone can sync without using original cradle or bluetooth? i m having problems with non-ori cables..on usb port.. help pls!!!

Does this happens right after powering on ?
It is normal to take a long time to boot up the SIM Cards configuration and specially SIM contacts onto the phone's memory.

OMG i realize after 35% my phone starts getting buggy, messages dont get sent :s phone hangs and has to be reset :O...can anyone tell me if a new battery for a blue angel is a good idea? and furthermore I am willing to invest in a new battery can anyone send me links for a cheap O2 XDA IIS battery which will last rigorous use? can anyone verify stability issues after 30%?
The phone is not ready. Wait 15 secondsd and try again. !!!
And can't open Options for the phone and not able to send SMS.
Using:
WM6 5.2.1938 (Build 18538.0.7.0.PV.HAT)Touch & Office 6.1 NetCF 3.5
Radio 1.12
Trying reflashing and also with another PV WM6 2000 and trying to send SMS immidiately after reflashing but no luck! Though it worked in the first days of switching to WM6.
Could it be the Radio 1.12 version problem?
Thanks for helping!
Ok see if you SIM is perfectly making contact. I had the same problem. I did put some bit of paper on the over the SIM . So that after closing the back cover it fitted snuglly to its slot.

I did charge the battery and while in the cradle the phone Options and sending out SMS says the same thing about waiting for 15 seconds.
But the phone itself works with incoming and outgoing calls and I can receive the SMS !!!
Using:
WM6 5.2.1938 (Build 18538.0.7.0.PV.HAT)Touch & Office 6.1 NetCF 3.5
Radio 1.12
Could it be the Radio 1.12 version problem?
Thanks for helping!

Which upgrading method of the 2 that are described in the XDA Wiki?
Last time I tried both it seems it didn't work for me.
One says that is just Radio updating and the other the whole WM operating system?
Kind Regards

Just try the radio updating only. The one in the wiki is good.
or copy the radio.nbf to where nk.nbf is. then flash both only if you want.
if you just want the radio. delete the nk.nbf.
then launch MAUpgradeUT_NoID.exe
I had a very same problem.
The problem was solved by buying a new battery.
At least for me, the only problem was the battery. Now everything is going fine...
Yup. Mostly, but not all, problems are battery related. our BA's really a powermonger when it comes to eating battery mAh
so the most common advice for a hardware failure or such is a change of battery.
note: even our desktop PC's malfunction if it is running undervolt.
