Mini USB Broken Off - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Halp!
My Mini USB connector on the back of my EXEC has literally broken off. It looks like the metal pins had become brittle and simply snapped off when i connected the USB cable.
I've opened the unit up to investigate further and all the pins have simply snapped off. The pins for the mini usb are tiny, and my soldering iron isn't up for such a small job.
Anyone know if its worth getting it fixed, attempting it or replacing the mobo or w/e else anyone can think of. I love my EXEC and will be rly upset if I cant fix this.
Other than that, what alternative is there to the EXEC, as I think its the bestestestest ever!
Please help, thanks

I have a similar problem I have recently moved to Calgary Canada from the U.K. where I got my Orange SPV M5000 (Universal). The other day I dropped it while I had my charger plugged in and it damaged the mini-USB connector. now I know this device is not available in Canada, but can anyone tell me where I may be able to have it repaired in Canada.

Just had mine fixed
Hi
I had the same prob just weeks after buying my exec on ebay. After searching around, I got it fixed for £10 GBP at Microtech GSM in Balsall Heath, Birmingham. Works fine now, so I'm going to buy a battery charger & spare battery from GPSforLess.
Good luck!

Wanted: Charger or Cradle or both (UK)

Anyone have any of these,
I am thinking of taking mine apart and fitting it into the dash of my car somehow, as I have broken my cradle.
Let me know how much you would want to post to UK
pm me!
Failing that I guess I will sell as is :|
Can't you use a cable instead? I found one in 2 minutes:

Maybe not the cheapest, but it means you can still find it in UK.
Look for "qtek 9090" on expansys, they have more acessories for BlueAngel.
Cradle you can find secondhand on ebay, if you really need it.

I suggest you try to post a Wanted ad in the Marketplace section. If anyone has one to offer, that's your best chance.
I´m sure I saw today someone selling Universal parts, not sure if motherboard...

You may use some thin cable (to use as jumper) in case the pads are broken and connect to nearest point.
Also you can buy a cheap card reader which has the same mini-usb connector. Desolder it and connect to the uni if your usb connector itself is broken.
the USB connector itself is sold on eBay for around $5, works very well on Uni or any device with the same connector. However, if the pads are damaged, it might be impossible to have one reattached.
I can offer Mda Pro's motherboard. Working good. Once fell down and display was damaged..
Message me if good for you.
yeah, some of the pads a fubar, thanks for the help people
Broken USB repair
I notice you live in the UK, I can fix the USB connector for you. Even if the pads are missing there are some test points on the board that you can solder fine wires to. I have done half a dozen of these repairs so far, this seems to be the most common problem with the Uni, even more so than borken screens. One of these days I'll have to do a 'how to' guide for it.
that would be nice, my soldering skills are up to the job, i just dont know how too, if you drop me a pm or something we can discuss it further
thanks
Guys, if you could jot down what you do and perhaps a piccy of the solder points, this would be great to put in the Wiki.
Hello people,
If its any help, my usb connection came off twice. both times it was resoldered back on with a standard soldering iron with the tip made to a point, and it still works OK. I found it easy to do, just needs a steady hand.

thats all well and good. but the copper pads that are used to solder the connector to the mainboard are fubar, so no amount of soldering will help

Cheap Charger on ebay

I recently bought one of these chargers on ebay from tuttoit (12V 1.5A 18W AC HOME Charger Adapter for MOTOROLA XOOM 4G LTE 3G Wi-Fi - can't post link due to xda restrictions). The charger works OK (charges quite quickly in fact) but I've found my xoom cannot be used while this charger is plugged in! The screen become unusable and therefore I have to wait until I have finished charging before I can use my xoom again. I think it may be to do with the charger not earthing properly.
Also the black box on the charger gets very hot.
Just posting this info to help anyone thinking of buying this charger.
Further to my previous post: DO NOT BUY A CHARGER FROM TUTTOIT ON EBAY.
Mine died after a few weeks of use. They are cheap rubbish.
(That'll teach me to buy cheap off eBay )
This stinks that you experienced this...but for the most part...its pretty common these days.
I try to use OEM products whenever possible and pay a little extra. I had a bad experience with a non OEM laptop charger years ago...and it friend my motherboard and power supply unit on my Thinkpad - thankfully I was able to find a used MoBo and install myself for 35 bucks.

Good advice.
I took the broken one apart and the circuit board inside had been fried.
Yesterday I looked for a Motorola charger and couldn't find one, even on the Motorola website!
Ended up buying another one from Hong Kong but I think the quality is a bit better (fingers crossed).
What about Amazon?
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Trav...8&qid=1344675498&sr=8-1&keywords=xoom+charger
Didn't think of Amazon and the price is about what I paid on eBay! D'oh.
Might buy one of theirs as well.
Thanx.
DO NOT BUY A CHEAP CHARGER FROM xiaoqinzhang2009 ON EBAY! Seller now known as micro-estore.
I did it again!
This second charger does the same as the first; you can't use the touchscreen while it is charging and it gets very hot.
I doubt these are made to Australian manufacturing standards.
I'm following tincbtrar's advice and going OEM from now on.

usb oxydised and display that turns on

Hi! few weeks ago my nexus started not charge because my usb port was oxydised. I solved buying an external charger. Now, if the battery is lower than 50%, the display turns on every seconds/minute. I think this is caused by the broken usb port, (i think that my phone turn on the screen because it seems in charge, but is not so) so i want to know if there is a way that allow to keep the phone in stand by even when i connect the charger.
Is there any way to solve this problem?
Thanks
Solved it by replacing this part http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_138786_1.jpg
It is not that expensive (10 euros all taxes included) and it is not hard to replace if you have some basic skills in taking apart phones and the right tools.
Cheers

thanks a lot! where i can buy it?
You can buy it from ebay. Most offer free shiping. I got mine from a local online store.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
yes, i've bought it from ebay. Thank you!

USB Daughter Board?

My friend dropped his tablet and it broke the charging port, I know that it is just a daughter board hooked to a ribbon cable and should be easy to change but the only place I can find it is pretty sketchy and wants 70 bucks... Does anyone know where to get this for a better deal? And if not is a wireless charger really a viable alternative?

I'm in the UK but used a site called zandparts.com and the board was about 40EUR,not sure what that works out at in dollars but it was a genuine part and delivery was pretty quick. It says they ship worldwide so may be worth a look?
