Hi,
Taken my O2 XDA Orbit to the states, and I'm getting poor sattelite reception and need help getting it going.
I'm in major citys - Harrisburg and moving onto Washington.
I'm using Cube and the visual reception program shows it picks up 10-12 sats but no strength shows on the bars.
Tries TomTom6 and the same - perthaps just one bar.
Did a hard reset... the same. Usual stuff checked like COM4 at 4800 ..
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks
A
It's the tall buildings, had the same problem in New York.On my previous XDA with seperate bluetooth gps, even tried putting it under my hat for better reception,to no avail.

My question is why My hermes Tytn picks up the weakest signal at this moment, that is the '3G' signal which is only 1 bar. If i switch to 'G' i get 4 bars instantly.
I have flashed the radio roms already went from 1.40.30 to 1.38.01...anyone thought about making my hermes just picking up the strongest signal automatically regardless if i want to use my UMTS connection?
bandswitch is not really an option right, bc i want my phone just picking op the strongest network at all times.
Its quite ridiculous that my phone picks up the weakest eg 1 bar '3G' instead of 4 bars of 'G' in my opinion especially when im in a phone conversation.
Any comments are welcome.
Regards,
Chiwah
btw new black touch rom is nice...only dunno if its a mon-tue-wedn etc on my today screen.
i have the same problem, although this thread should be moved to "hermes" or "hermes upgrade" forum instead of wm6 forum.
but if anyone has a solution to how to fix it that would be most welcomed by me aswell. (right now I always use gsm network)
Try to update radio to 1.41, it will solve your problem
I have same experience, it is solved after i updated the radio to 1.41. It is noticed that radio !.43 encountered same problems as 1.38 or 1.40. It always pick up the weaker signal such as 3G instead of steady GSM. For the radio 1.41 it always pick up the strongest signal, it will pick up GSM autuomatically if 3G signal is weak.
Or.....
Or you can just search for a great little program called band switch. this program creates a little icon at the bottom of your screen allowing you to switch band on the fly with the click of a button. it is free and was developed by someone in the community. just do a search for it.
I think you will find that the device when in auto (in common with all 3g devices) is set to choose 3g if its available - and thus it will choose 3g if it can get a signal. Personally I prefer 3g (even with one bar) to gsm as it means I can talk and receive emails at the same time.
But I am aware that some hermes users on some networks seem to have some 3g issues with low signal (ie it thinks there's a 3g signal but actually voice and data have trouble getting through).
I agree. The phone will deliberatly attempt to use a 3G signal whenever available. As long as you can send and receive calls, it seems to me that is a desired feature.
Now, if only they would expand 3G into more of my state...
Has anyone else noticed this? I could be standing in the same room as an access point, and still get a max of 2 bars. While i can change my own access point at home, and play with the various channels to see if any of them give me a stronger signal strength, of course i wouldnt have that option everywhere i go!
Also while i can see you can download various roms here for the phone, is there ones from say o2 ( my network) that can be download or updated anywhere? All i can see is the windows update on mine.
Thanks
I'm in major US cities eg- Harrisburg and moving onto Washington and I'm getting poor satellite reception on my XDA Orbit - can anyone suggest a solution?
USual things checked Com 4 at 4800.. etc..
I'm using the Cube rom, and the visual reception guide shows 10-12 sats but the bars show no reception.
USing Tom Tom 6 there is sometimes one or two bars only.
Is it due to using a particular US phone company? The XDA has automatically selected Singular - the other is T Mobile but it seems the same..
Help!
Thanks

First let me say, I know there is a Stick for Radio's here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432770 But, a lot of people who post in that thread do not have a location filled out or don't post where they are. So, there is a lot of useless info.
So, I figured I would start a "US Only" Radio Thread.
Has anyone flashed another radio beside's using the shipped v1.00.25.08?
I am currently testing: Radio v1.02.25.11
With 1.00.25.08 I used to get "H" a lot. Phone signal was good. GPS lock was about 2-3 minutes coldstart with Tomtom.
With 1.02.25.11 I no longer get "H" speeds. 3G all the time. Phone signal is great. GPS with Google Maps is great. I have not been able to test Tomtom yet due to a recent ROM flash.
As I am in my office most of the time, Radio v1.00.25.BS14 has been the best for me. Picks up the best signal as Radio v1.00.25.05 (1 less bar than BS14), Radio v1.00.25.07 and Radio v1.00.25.08 could not pick up much of a signal.
I used Radio v1.00.25.05 for a few days with Dutty 26RC1 and it worked well, but when I flashed Dutty ver27 Rc2, I had very bad signal.... so I flashed to Radio v1.00.25.BS14.I went from 1 bar too 3 bars in my office.
Still have problems holding on to a 3G signal, seems like I can only get Edge until I get a strong enough signal to get HSDPA.

After searching for a solution for a while, I was not able to find one. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem.
I used to have signal in the entire street with this phone, and as long as I was inside the building, the signal was "excellent".
After an update came out, the Wi-Fi signal has dropped significantly.
Now I should be happy if it connects when only a few meters away from the Wireless-N router!
All other devices in this network, including an HTC Sensation, have no problems with the signal at all.
I have contacted HTC and they were "looking into this matter". But it has been a while since this problem appeared, and I am afraid there is not going to be any fix by them.
So I decided to root my phone yesterday, using this guide and I am currently using Android Revolution HD together with the RADIO provided in that thread.
Now it seems to have a slightly better signal, however there are no white bars shown on the Wi-Fi icon, while it states that the signal is "excellent" at the Wi-Fi search screen. The connection also still drops frequently.
I am definitely satisfied with the results, but I do need this Wi-Fi problem fixed.
Is anyone here familiar with this problem, and is there anything to be done about this?
This was a problem with Lees kernel. Good signal, just not being displayed correctly.
Turn WiFi off/on, and it should work.

That is the very first thing I tried and it did not help.
Did you wiped all data before flashing with the tool provided in ARHD-thread?
Yes, I did.
