Please rea this, it won't take long, just a word of appreciation
Thank you to all the chefs who cook the most amazing WM6 ROMS!!
I have been a fan of Windows Mobile for a while, but while everyone seemed to move on in terms of usability and interface design Windows Mobile seemed to get left behind and the final straw cam with the Iphone interface and interaction, It saddened me and angered me! As individuals we pay ridiculous amounts of money for software from MS and on a corporate level....well the licensing is quite lucrative! And all they seem to do is throw us a clunky slow interface. I loved windows mobile but i was slowly losing my faith and considering other options!
But! i had a load of DVD's to trade in at CEX and a few old mobiles and there was a brand new V1605 (Hermes) staring right at me with his price tag of £120 begging me to grab him. So after playing around with it i did.
Took it home that evening quite excited and began playing with it. Still slow, tried to set up MMS, GPRS, WAP etc what a task that was!
I took to the net and i stumbled accross this "cooked ROMS" thingy curiously i began researching and i thought what the hell i'll see what they are like.
Well all i can say is i am absolutely astounded at the creativity and skill of the Devs out there, Schaps, Pays you have completely reignited the Windows flame in me! my phone is now set up running like a horse in the kentucky derby, i have some fantastic programmes and customisation tools to play with, MMS works Great GPRS brilliant, the customisation is amazing!
I even did this little reg edit that allowed the MMS messages recieved to be shown as they are meant to be in full glory instead of scaled & watered down
rubbish you usually get!
right now all i need to do is get rid of the annoying beeping whenever i send an SMS and i will have my dream phone!
So to all those developers out there who work so hard cooking these ROMS you all deserve Michelin Stars for your cooking abilities, Gordon Ramsey a chef?? yeah right! lets see him try cooking a WM6 ROM like Schaps or Pays!
Thank you developers your the best!....

If you are talking about sent SMS notification, Schap's advanced config has a setting to get rid of that beeping.
There is also a reg edit of course, but advanced config is the easy route.
The Reg Edit to enable MMS hwo they should be

As for the notification in schaps rom, i thought this only disables the actual notification message appearning and not the sound. I read somewhere you need to delete a notification.wav file and replace it with a blank wav file
Yeah your right...
Yeah i hardly get calls!! i am a sad loner! hee!
But seriously i love messing with my phone, brain training shmain training this is REAL brain training! gets your mind really working!

Hello all,
I recently purchased a Cingular 8525 and I'm really considering upgrading the phone's OS to WM6. I've successfully used the unlocker to unlock the SIM and made it SuperCID.
I did a search on this topic but really couldn't find anything that was in one spot....
I'm creating this poll for all those newbies (like myself who want to upgrade).
This poll is for any flavor of WM6....
Cheers to all...
Wow!!!!
It's pretty amazing that no one has bricked their phone while upgrading to WM6. As a newbie, I feel pretty confident upgrading this weekend...
I've printed up the guides and downloaded all the software...
I've decided to use the LVSW version.
Thank you to all for all your input and advice.
There are several threads with people bricking their phones (at least temporarily). Maybe after their experience they are too scared to come back here and answer the poll

That's exactly why I read the wikis and read the threads for 3 weeks before I even THOUGHT about upgrading. And even then I had to ask questions and sound like an idiot and sweat during the whole upgrade.
I originally went with LVSW and then with Black v1.2....I just couldn't resist.
Jim
I brick and can unbrick my tytn
Yes i try to upgrade my softbank with a dopod rom, for winmobil6 LVSW, and my phone brick after a 17% but reading all wiki, i can recover so is beautiful mobile 6, i'm happy with black edition 1.1 cyu
I know exactly what you're saying I've been reading the Wiki's and guides non stop in the evenings. My wife hates me at this point because I'm spending more time reading about the upgrade and asking questions than spending "Quality Time" with her
I guess, my fear is (like many of us newbies wanting to upgrade) bricking my $500 Cing 8525 and being out of warranty. I don't know about the rest of the gang here but 1/2 a grand is a lot of duckets
Quick question for you.... may I know why you decided to go from the LVSW flavor to the Black v1.2 flavor? Was the installation process the same?
Just curious....
Thanks

I can upgrade successfully without any major problem.
The only problem is while I am trying to restore the GPRS/MMS Setting, although I am using cab file for this network wizard but only can be done for 3G/GPRS but not for MMS...
Guys i want upgrade to WM6 but when i read the bricked section of ht WM6 upgrade i am holding back, i am unsing Dopod 838 Pro which is Hermes (HTC) and i have the following ROM upgrader (plpease look at the attached Photo). can some one please advice me if they have used this ROM for the upgrade of Hermes???
i will not want my oda to be a brick as its 3 cmonth old and still under warranty...
Hi truffle1234,
You may want to create a new thread asking your question. The intent of this thread is to find out the installation success rate for people who have already tried to upgrade to WM6.

Well...I guess after I successfully flashed LVSW without bricking my (almost) new 8525 I thought what the hell and flashed Black v1.2 on the spur of the moment...my wife says I have impulse control issues. But I'm glad I did. It seems to run smoother, quicker response and better handling of some of my 3rd part apps.
I've done ALOT of trial and error. I have hard reset my phone (of my own volition) 5 times over the past week. I'm a bit OCD and after trying out programs to see how I run it seemed like the memory went back up all the way. So I hard reset to start over again.
I finally have it working the way I like and the Black, from my low-level of experience, seems stable and more functional than the Palm I used t carry.
I have the following installed:
Weather to Go (working construction/realty I need accurate Wx)
BattMemory (I'm anal about checking program memory and its a small plug in)
O2Plus (great for hitting a button and seeing what apps are open)
Palm threated SMS (I hate the native SMS program on the 8525)
MORTGAGECalc (REALTOR, nuff said)
GoogleMaps (REALTOR, nuff said)
Batti (I like the top bar that shows charging status and level no matter what app I'm in
ClearTemp (cleans out settings and temp filed quickly)
VibraSwitch (allows me to switch between vib and sound a la Treo 650)
PTTFix (allows me to remap the PTT button)
I've tried some other apps that did not go so well...SPB, Mobile Shell worked well a few days then slowed everything down...I liked the tabs and the plug in but it kept slowing the system down...and a bunch of others.
I'm not a big media user so I don't need TCMP or any other cool multimedia gadgets so I kept it to what I need. I keep my laptop with me normally so I don't need to watch movies or do any of that stuff. Most of my business work is done on the laptop. I have avvenu (www.avvenu.com) on my desktop so I can pull any file from my desktop from my phone via IE, which is a nice feature.
I soft reset every morning when waking the system up and it runs alot smoother than my T650 did.
I've not missed a single call since getting the 8525, the Push email is alot better than 3rd party apps for Palm, the 3G rocks where I am, and I get better reception. On my T650 I would get 1-2 bars or no service sitting in my house but with the 8525 I get 2-3 3G bars as a rule.

Check out the Hermes Section and look for "Palm SMS" thread or something like that. It goes over the MMS settings quite in depth.
just follow the guide and it should be fine. I am a beginner to this too but do some research and reading and follow the GUIDE! the guide is excellent!
Well everybody, just wanted to give a brief update that I was able to upgrade my Cingular 8525 to WM6 No problems on this end. Would definitely recommend the update to all.
Which flavour did you upgrade to??
Black is back in
I had no problems with either Black 1.1 or 1.2. Upgrades went like a charm. Not waiting for Black 2.0
Used Mr Vanx's guide to upgrade my HERM200 to the LVSW edition (25/3 version). I encountered no problems at all.
Device seems to work fine, though in Surinam we don't have all the advanced mobile phone features as in europe (like gprs etc).

For Those Who Wanted An iPhone ROM, Heres A CAB That Should Do Most Of What You Want.
Here It Is iPhone.cab
It Includes:-
Grumps - iPhone App
inphyy - iPhone App Configurer
A_C - Slide2UnLock
larna - iContacts
xelashiu - iPhone Dialer Skin
And A Welcomehead BMP That I Found On The Forum.
Hope It's Ok Not Fully Tested It Yet, Please Leave Feedback.

Gooooood question!
I'd like to take look, just fer ****s & giggles ye know? don't wanna screw up my current install now. I'm in far too happy a place, ROM wise
Already tried it out...but it is useless for me...respons...like 3-5 sec after tapping a button...5mb less free RAM...this is too much for me..
Regards,
Primoz
All I can say is that the Dialer will not work correctly on 8252 with CIN 3.5.2. There are some alignment issues with numbers.
Also it's impossible to enter the settings for the skin and PHONE icon not linked correctly.
Best Regards
Why is this in the WM6 forum? Does the CAB only work on WM6?
It probably doesn't belong in this topic, but why don't we try and change that?
Would there be interest in making a WM6 ROM that looks and acts almost like an iPhone? I can see there being some disadvantages and no doubt a lot of people will miss the today screen, but there might be a few people interested none the less.
Maybe it would be better to keep it as an "iPhone CAB" with everything on it, so that users can try it and remove it quite easy?
What other programs would we need in the ROM do you think?
I'm thinking it would be good to try and embed Piscel Browser, or similar at least, so that you have the fancy finger scrolling on websites.
Maybe we could add the ringtones as well....

Why not ! Could be fun to try at least, providing performance didnt render it unusable.
@Pc78
To Deal With The Response Times, Select Settings And You Should Be At The Configurator App, You Can Change The Response Times With This App.
@.VIBE
It Should Uninstall Correctly, As That Option Was Selected With WinCE CAB Manager
@dusank
Strange The Phone Link Works Fine On My Phone, Maybe Try It Again After A Soft Reset.
Cheers
Follow The Links That Are Posted In The First Post, For Information On How To Configure The Individual Apps.
Cheers
Does it include the filedialogchanger made by ??? which is posted with iConfig?
and could you write which versions of the apps in the .cab?
sorry, but im a little lazy atm so i havent downloaded it..
Problems with Dialer
This is my first post, can you put xelashiu WM6 version of the dialer in the cab file. because of the problems with key pad numbers lining up, otherwise great app Many Thanks
Oange SPVM3100
LVSW 3.30.2.1
GREAT CAB
Great cab, I was just looking forward to install a cab like these, but has only problem with the dialer, I hope can be fix. Thank you for the great work.
This CAB is very nice, but it was eaier to configure an iPhone theme using WAD with all the godies. Plus, you can put the icons wherever you want and add or delete them.
Unfortunately WAD is buggy and creates a soft reset from time to time. Other than that it's a nice app to play with!
I really like the start for this app... iContact is my favorite cause its a Stylusless UI. Now if everything else is ported it would be awesome!!! The dialer is a good start too but really needs work with simplifying it. It doesn't need to be that complicated and the look can be polished too. I'm willing to work on it with the developer if you need more of my feedback. I'm an interface designer by trade so please use me
I AM WILLING TO PAY IF SOMEONE WERE TO MAKE THE ENTIRE iPHONE OS AS A CAB OR WM6 REPLACEMENT!
Anyone else?
I'm a software developer with a fresh mind straight from Uni...so if anyone wants to team up let me know and I'd be happy to start on this project.
Slither I'm up for it!
I'll design the interfaces... You make them work!
Deal or No Deal?
Oh btw which direction would you like to go Cook our own ROM or CAB?
Deal
I like the CAB direction...btw I'm working full time so i'll dedicate time for the project mainly in the evenings and whenever I get time during work. PM me for design thoughts you have.
Cheers.
slither & and spidey
im excited to see what you guys will produce...
Sweeeeeettt!
Being a non T-Mobile person I went through a lot of pain unbranding it, love the new changes in WM6 but it's bloated beyong belief. I have seen numerous spelling mistakes in the registry and carriers brandings everywhere. The phone seems to use a lot more memory on a fresh boot as well. *sigh* guess I have to wait for the WM6 ROM from HTC and don't take any shortcuts.

what steps did u take to debrand?
AGREED !!
here's one among many typo !!
JOGGR registry folder ...
HKCU\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\ResotreDefaultSettings
I also went back to WM5, simply because I couldn't function without the "voice tags" feature ...
I thought things were supposed to "IMPROVED" as you upgraded ... not "CRIPPLED" !!!

Isnt this an error from the people that wrote the JOGGR app and not MS' doing?
WM6 is pathetic. I am on the verge of going back to WM5.
It's not that bad...
I do find myself having to actively manage memory in WM6 a bit more than I did in WM5...but I had to manage WM5 daily anyway. So really, it's just a bit more of the same. Instead of 1-2 reboots a day in WM5, it's more like 1-3 reboots a day in WM6.
WM6 bloated? Which MS operating system that is NOT bloated?
LOL!

What ?? do you work for MS or something ??
The point is ... "T-Mobile WM6" like the thread started ... so I blame the whole collaboration --->> T-Mobile + MS + JOGGR developer !!!
whatever !!
point is ... a lot of tidy up and double checking before final release should have been done ...etc

This is the responsibility of the quality assurance testers & project managers at T-Mobile. They apparently missed some pretty big things on the wm6 launch.
However, I do agree that it's not a Microsoft problem... it's an HTC problem.

Anyone going to try this ROM?
Can someone have a mod remove this post someone may actually download this file
this rom works ive been working on this for weeks. it really works for me so im sharing. i normally do not post because of people like you who opens there mouth to soon.
Need much more documentation and screen shots before someone will try it.
im lazy but will throw up Soon.
slacker... bad englizh, nas-t sintax, bad grammer.
I won't be trying this one....
just lazy cuz i do so much for my magnetics research company so on these things i like to be lazy because i cant typically. but i will try to keep good grammer but try if you like. all im trying to do is be nice release my rom that i use with others in the usa. but sorry for being lazy posting again but i will try not to if thats how you guys like things here
Gee, HACK Mimic, sounds like a safe bet to me.
I agree this thread should be dumped, and screams BRICK
DUMP THIS THREAD>
Well, give him a chance to post screen shots and specs first. May be legit.
its not a brick. im tired of everyone not giving anyone a chance. oh im not vp3g or the others so everyone assumes that its a brick and i dont know s*** and its so annoying. ive installed my rom on my friends 8525's so stop hating. if your so god like then make your own rom. so STFU until you try it for yourself. without experimenting nothing would ever get accomplished . so im lazy at posting cry me a river. i will put screen shots up soon. just dont have the time right now to do it. but they should be up tomorrow.
I smell the ban hammer.
I wouldnt mind trying this rom if I see some pics. Looks like it has some good stuff in it.
Is this just a Pandora's Kitchen build?
Screen shots, build number, etc is a given here.
Also, for what it's worth... mail and attachments on SC via registry CAN bite you on the ass, trust me. But of course, YMMV.
I just flashed your rom, and my phone started melting like an ice cream on a warm Florida day. Can you help me with this one?
Just kidding of course, I wont be trying this one either, I'm with the rest of you guys

Fake hack ROM that will F'up your PHONE and make you go to his ebay store.
Ban this Spammer/hack
yes, ihavetinyballs, deeznutz sucks!
I hate reading paragraphs without punctuation. I can't stop reading till I get to the end, yet there is no period there...
I bet the info sheet that recently appeared on the first post was copy/pasted from another rom around here....slacker...
Hello,
I keep seeing in these forums many threads regarding ROMs. I know what they are but my question is...why should I mess with it. I have an HTC Touch GSM with WM6. Now if you tell me I can get the interface in general to be quicker and the wifi to connect sooner, then i'm sold.

youll be very suprised at how much of a difference it makes to flash your phone with a rom itll make it faster due to the applications that u dont use water down ur programming memory and that can be released and run faster with them gone ...just look around and find one that fits ur use..promise u will be happy...just one thing to remember ..Read he insructions carefully and dont be scared to ask any questions ..have fun
Perfection,
I guess so, sound logical. What would be the best ROM for the HTC Touch GSM, I've always felt that the phone is a little hesistant, and I've done the best that i've could in stoping animations, sounds and some registry hacks. I mostly use the Office Suite, Messenger, Skype and Netfront Browser. Then on trips the mp3 player and cameras.
Just in case I have a whole assortment of 3rd party software like: Pocket CM, PCM Keyboard, SIP Change and SPB Mobile Shell, in case it's neccessary to know.
Also, how does one go abouts installing this, i have both Mac and PC, so as you said i'm not scared of asking or trying things out, my Treo 650 I've dont a hell a lot to it, and it still runs good, but the HTC is it's replacement.
Cheers,
Paul

Well i my self have a herald or atlas >>or normal people call it the t-mobile wing so i wouldnt know exactly which one is the best
for that model but i have done alot od flashing and u always need to just post a question to the senoir members they know alot of the info and work arounds.....I promise they will make a difference ..send them private message its faster..and if ur phone is a
touch then go to the forums that show the names >>> Vogue or the Elf just look at them to see whihc one looks like urs...speak or ask the question for better programming speed to on of the senoir members it should show if they are seniors under there names.
Will do, thanks again Perfection3.
