24 hour clock and uk style date and splash screen

Hi, i have just upgraded to Windows Mobile 6 the black 2.5 edition.
Whilst I was doing it i had my memory card left out which had applications on it, now when I put it back, the applications are not there..? I copied all data from active sync > explore (except my windows mobile device) and then I copied it back after upgrade. I am not fussed that the programs are gone, it would be good to get them back though, and since the card was not inserted during the upgrade, the application files must still be on the card somewhere taking up space...?
Anyways, I can't seem to get the 24 hour clock on it and also can't change the date to the UK style e.g. 24/04/2007, it is stuck in american style e.g. 04/24/2007. Any answers...?
Is Windows Mobile 5 applications supported by Windows Mobile 6? Can I have links to Windows Mobile 6 downloads please
Also , I do not like the boot screen, I want to put a picture of my wife and son, how do I do that? Sorry I am an intermediate user.

before you get abused.....
Couple of pointers though, you might want to check your country is actually set to UK, rather than the default US.
When you install Black you wipe out the entire OS, the application files will be on the card, but the shortcuts in the OS that you find in the menu's and the programs directory will not. Search the card to see if there is actually anything on it at all.
You cant actually copy installed Apps with ActiveSync, it doesnt work that way, you can use it to re-install apps.
Most WM5 apps will work with WM6, but some will not and some will have odd behaviour because the programming interface isdiffeent to WM5.

Sorry, unable to help with the card issue.
But, the 24 hr clock & date is in settings, regional settings & set to english (uk).
The splash screen is explained in Mr Vanx upgrade guide, where it is explained re first & second screens.
Hope this helps & sorry if you have already completed or read the guides

Or, leave settings on US and choose (in Settings, System, Regional Settings):
Time: HH:mm:ss and you're on 24hr clock,
Date: dd-MMM-yy and you're on European date.
And if someone flames you for asking, screw that

Also, the start bar sometimes hides....
and about the applications on the card. they are still there under "program files" and can be opened but some of them - registration fails. The shortcuts are not in the menu though...
Also how can I add a running programs shortcut on the bottom like I had on WM5..I can't seem to do it....

Hmmm, there is a known issue with wifi settings getting wiped out, there are a couple of threads about it in Hermes upgrading, Olipro and pof are working on a fix that they say should be out in a few days.
Dont know about the start bar hiding, havent seen that myself, as for the apps, I would say maybe install them again to the same location to put all your shortcuts back, technically you will just be putting the same files on the storage card and any settings that went on the card should still be there.
I cant find a way to add running programs either, go into settings/memory/running programs or use the taskman program. If anyone else has seen a way to add running programs to the softkey setup I would be quite grateful too.
Its not about sounding dumb, you dont - you're just lacking the necessary info, its just if you ask questions that have been answered elsewhere people figure you are just being lazy or ignorant especially if they are the same kinds of questions that people keep on asking that can be answered by doing an advanced search and selecting show posts instead of show threads.
Just keep at it, you will get there in the end.

Thanks. I upgraded my radio rom to 1.41 and my network mucked up...I couldnt even get a signal. Then I went to 1.40 and now my wifi is working and and i get a network. not sure if its as clear as before though...

Thats odd because the wifi and radio dont actually have anything to do with each other, radio rom controls GPRS/3G stuff. Oh well, go with it.....

Really..? That could be why my web pages weren't opening. I've just been on the phone to T-Mobile as it goes and they say that their 3G is down. I'm able to connect to GPRS but loading the web pages it just says opening and nothing opens. They said it should be OK in a few hours...oh well.

LOL no that time my network problem was fixed because i had went to Radio 1.40 just web pages werent working. Then they called me back on my work phone to help me solve it anyways...

Roaming @ Home...

After installing the new "official-unofficial" ATT/Cingular WM6 Rom, now every time I access my pop3 email account in my home town, I get a message stating "roaming - you may incur additional charges, do you wish to continue?"
I never got this in WM5. Is there a setting that is screwed up or something? I shouldn't be roaming in my own town!

Yeah i get that too on my Herm... but only when i sync my Yahoo acc.

I know this is a REALLY stupid question, ... but how do I get into the registry on these phones? I sync'd up with my computer and "fished" around but couldn't find the door in??

I couldn't find that setting or the string "HKCU". Could you be a little bit more specific? Everything is HKEY (local machine| local user | classes root) which one? And do I add your entry or edit it?

In this case, I assume you will need to add the key. Tap & Hold on 'Inbox', New -> DWORD Value. Name it 'ShowRoamWarning', leave the value '0'. Power down, soft reset with stylus.
As a general rule, if a registry key is mentioned it is the desired setting (obvious, i know). Point is, if the key is not there add it.

Does everyone in California have a roaming Icon on Wm6? I should have tried the real ATT ROM just to see if the damn icon wsa still on.

Ah, ... got ya. I really appreciate your help! I'll give it a try!

that happened to me the first time I upgraded to WM6 its an issue with cingulars network. there is a setting I think to download messages even when roaming I believe I switched to exchange 2007 and don't have that issue any more myself.

I agree, I experienced it after the jump to WM6 using that ^&@#$%* XpressMail. The tweak solved the problem for me.

I haven't been to CA lately, but I'm still have the roaming Icon on all the the time in Nevada since WM6 (but I'm not really roaming per t-mobile).

After upgrading to WM6, I was ok for a couple of day's (in Sacramento, CA). As of Tuesday my phone shows that I am roaming and it will not go away. Not just for data transfers but all the time. I called Cingular/ATT and they said there was no issues in my area. Any idea's? Also I cannot get a 3G connection, which I was able to before.

i think this is a known issue (at least to me haha) for a REALLY long time...even since wm6 ROM leaked, ive had this issue, and im with Tmobile using an unlocked 8525...apparently, the roaming icon went away when i went to Texas...im from Los Angeles, CA

Question about 3G icon in new AT&T WM6 ROM

Hello everyone.
My first post here, although I have been an avid reader for a while now. I'd like to say thanks to vp3G and others for the excellent cooked ROMS.
My question: I just started using the new official WM6 ROM from AT&T. My fiance and myself both use AT&T 8525's, and I loaded the new ROM on both of our phones. Now, we can be sitting right next to one other on our couch, and her phone will read as having full bars with the 3G icon to the left of them. Then I'll look at my phone and I have full bars with the E icon next to them.
Would anybody here have any idea as to why? Identical phones, with identical ROMs and identical radio versions, yet she gets 3G while I only seem to get Edge, with the phones sitting side-by-side on the coffee table.
I'm confused on this one ...any ideas? Thanks a bunch in advance for any help and for the great site!

I looked in the com manager and looked under settings>phone but couldn't find anything regarding 3G. Where would I look?

Yes, they are the same. We bought the phones a few months back and both shipped with one of the new AT&T SIM cards with the 3G logo on it. I used to get sporadic 3G at home with the older radio versions, but she has always had rock solid 3G on hers. It's weird, I know.

Well, since you looked under the settings>phone; you have the enable band tab reg edit right? If so make sure this is on Auto.
Couldn't tell from your post if you had this exactly.

I'm feeling kind of silly right now...I'm not sure what you're referring to. I open up the com manager in the lower right of the today screen, and then the left soft key becomes a "settings" tab. Opening that just takes me to the phone setting menu (Phone, Services, Network, etc...).
I haven't made any changes to the ROM, just using what it had available.

Ok. Go to Start-Settings-Phone
See if there is a tab on the bottom that says Band...
If you do then make sure that it says Auto on both.
If not then check out the hermes wiki and go to tweaking the hermes registry...
If your are using the 'official' att rom, and if it's anything like the old roms, then the band tab will not be there...

Get rid of operator "Get More..." on T-Mobile USA

I'm running the new "HTC_WWE_1.33.422.1_4.1.13.51_03.07.90_Ship" and my operator comes up as "Get More..." Which is pretty lame. Anyone figured out a way to change this? My digging through the registry turned up nil.
Help?

Chances are, no. It's a feature of the SIM card to be able to hold custom names that the operator wants to display. It's called EONS (Enhanced Operator Name Service, I believe). There's no way that I know of to tell WM to ignore it.

Well shoot, now i'm stumped. On the t-mob ship roms it came up fine. The HTC rom says Get More..., strange. I also have a t-mob wing (herald) and the touch-it rom said the same thing (Get More...).
This seems to be something common with roms designed for markets other than north america. Thanx for the input.

good luck. Worked for me. Might have to play around with it to get it to work. You don't have to reboot the whole phone to show the new network name. just go into the communications manager and hit 1 (or turn off phone) then re-enable it)

It works but switches back whenever u soft reset. I don't see the big deal to be honest.

Remove notification when having no radio coverage

Hi there,
is there any possibility to remove this notofication when having no radio coverage (as in my underground garage)...
I'm a bit fed up with it, always switching it away...

You will need to supply information as to which ROM you are using.
On my stock Tmobile US ROM, I don't get this notification.

I use the latest HTC ROM (6.5) with Sense 2.5 but I had this notification on every ROM I had installed (6.1 and the 6.5 from November)
to explain it once more. when I go in my underground garage (where I have no radio coverage) and I stay there for 2 minutes, then the notification comes which says: "no connection possible".
I would like to disable this, but in Software there is no possibility.

This sounds more like you phone is trying to make a data connection, rather than a phone connection. I do get this alert when there is no phone service available - but only if I try and go online for some reason. Are you using some applications that automatically connect to the Internet?

yes, the weatherapplication, active sync, etc.
and I think you are right, regarding the data connection. is there any possibility to switch off this data connection notification?

Youre probably going to have to edit your registry if you want to keep your weather, etc running and disable the notification. Justt google "windows mobile registry editor" and im sure youll find it. After installing it comes the fun part. You get to search your registry for the value that controlls that notification, it will have a name indicating the function, something like "DataConnectionNotification" or something similar, and its value will be 1. You will want to change it to 0. Findinf it will be the tough part, theres a ton of folders in the phones registry, and some of the names of the values can be kinda cryptic. But you should be able to find it with a little time and common sense. I would start my search in HKCU/Software/HTC/builtin/ril (might not be exact path) and if its not in there, expand your search. Maybe someone will be kind and post exactly where it is in your registry, I cant search rt now Im on my phone

the only thing I found was on:

there I changed the value "Enable Autonotify" from 1 to 0
but it seems not to be the right one since the notification is not gone...
it would be nice if somebody could help me finding the right registry entry?
