Hello,
My phone hard reseted itself somehow i'm not concerned cause i could put everything back but my main concern is SMS MESSAGES - i had over 300 text messages from my gf saved, is there anyway I can bring those back - anyway at all? Please let me know because i had a lot of confidential data. Thanks (Main Concern: SMS Messages From Her)
I would think the only hope would be if they were on the SIM card (which they are probably not). Sorry to hear about the problem though
That sucks dude. Sprite Backup is a lifesaver. Too late to suggest that though.

Sprite is awesome. I can screw with this thing until it is broken and just click on my back up file and it restores it perfect every time.

What a lovely way to wake up, you look at your phone, no sms txt notification, you open txt up to send one, you see inbox with 4 unread txt. You open one up, it seems to crash, so you reset as its a brick at that time.. You wait you look again into your inbox and Whoopie all unread text 6 of them are gone... Now what ? Can I retrieve them at all? I tried to read the sim.. but nope.. mmm downloaded all the sms to laptop via outlook and nope nothing there.. Anyone is this a bug? of WM5 or does it apply to WM3 too? Is there anyway of retrieving these texts? i.e. the rom is that unstable? I am confused help me please to explain this bug? :?:
nope... aparently they were in the RAM and got wiped out when you reset the device.
So is that a normal event?
Loosing your sms because unit freezes for some reason or another? Is that particular to this device, or is it the operating system? I run the normal latest rom of O2 Uk not changed anything .. corporate version.
When in Ram
I followed that trail when in Ram and I shuddered it explaines why my alarms dont go off, and yes loss of sms etc if in ram..

Girl sighs now shakes her head and wants to go back to CPM and old MS dos... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh
leave the messaging system on the today screen, dont remove it.
sms's will crash when you remove the mail from the today screen.
consider using a third party app to reset, there are a few, and they will write the information in ram to storage when resetting, eg SPB PP but there are others
the other option, which isnt effective is to cycle the power off for about 30 seconds prior to resetting, however if it is frozen, this is unlikely to be effective
the usual cause is the removal of the mail system from the today screen.
awwww... poor you ask the guy who sent you the SMS to send it again
P.S it's due to the way the OS is designed... you will loose the data in RAM unless you flush it before reseting... try the app from vijay's website to reset... I havent' tried it myself but I think it should do the trick
here is the link

put messaging back onto today screen
Thanks I will do that... though I hate all that clutter,, I shall let you all know if it works.. or not.

I meant Desktop linux!
That looks really nice, and great to see it taking advantage of full 640x480!! Since it is a real OS on a laptop-shape palm computer, I would probably be quite interested in that. If I can persuade my employer to *give* me an Exec/Jasjar to replace my XDA2!
How is the screen redraw? I'm told that WM2005 redraws slowly on that device. They must have forgotten the 2D accel chips.
2 totally separate phones (dash's) one with Rogers and one with stock Tmo WM6. Hard restart all contacts disappear! Since in their infinite wisdom you cant disable the sim contacts from showing, I rely on them STAYING in the phone memory! Anyone else with this issue? It has happened only twice in maybe 4 months, but is very frustrating!
Thanks for any advice!
A hard reset will restore the phone to factory default (no contact list). It's supposed to do that. Keep your contacts synchronized via outlook and activesync.
Sorry, I was lying when I typed hard reset. I yanked the battery so it wasnt exactly a soft reset but I did not do the clear storage either I guess next time it locks up I will be more patient!

You should be syncing your phone with your contact list on your PC or exchange server if you are lucky enough to have one. This is one of the most basic things you can do on a smartphone. What if you lost your phone???
I do sync. But I dont take my computer with me either. So today, all day, I was without contacts. Now they are back caused I sync'd.
I guess we should be telling people that want louder call volume to get a hearing aid and people that want to run another ROM to buy the right phone
backup
I use Sprite Backup for said problem and its golden. Simply make backups of your data on the go and when things happen like say an impossible to stop boot loop or a data error, you can still restore everything.
I guess I am just the kind of person that would rather look at the root of the problem, not the band-aid repair after it happens again. I will look into the backup, but I will probably just carry my spare deactivated sim card so I can transfer stuff back if it fails me again.
So does anyone know a way to KEEP the contacts on the sim, yet hide them from view on the contacts list? It surpirses me that something my 8 year old Nokia does WM6 wont let you do . I have never accidentally lost my sim contacts- but the duplicate thing is annoying
The rogers rom for the htc s621 (dash) allows you to hide sim contacts without a registry edit. goto settings then phone... you'll find it there.
also there is a reg edit for said issue for roms that don't offer this option. I have not personally found a smartphone rom without this option but the regedit is: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Phone]
"ShowSIM"=dword:00000001 ->0 to disable, 1 to enable.
Now you can keep your contacts on your activated SIM.
THANK YOU!!! I had not realized Rogers did this!
Found the check box under Settings/Phone/Call Options
Its time to update my ROM. ive been using what ive got for almost 6 mos now, and like any other computer, its starting to bog. but ive got a lot of stuff on there, yknow? id hate to lose it all.
basically, i need something that ACTUALLY WORKS and dosnt need to be cooked in, supports the rhodium, and let me view the backup later. i dont want to have to reflash my phone to read old txt msgs (use for business, good to keep records)
all i need is my non-sim contacts and text messages backed up, everything else, config and all that, i dont mind re-doing.
anyone got any suggestions?
I suggest using pimbackup. It's simple and it does the job very well.

I never had problems restoring backups. The only disadvantage that i'm aware of is that it does not backup mms attachments.
Hi,
I am using for over a year "Sprite Backup" ! Yes, it's shareware and it cost some $$, but Sprite has an HTC special and includes the "Terminator" program as well.
Very happy with this backup solution.
Cheers,
JCE

i think ive used that one previously. it generates .csv files, right?
trying to restore from that backup is a mess, unless im doing something wrong.
by 'mess' i mean totally not threaded in any way at all. and if you have almost 10k sms mgs sitting in your inbox.....
Hey guy,
i have made the mother of all screw ups.
Mates phone had all pics and vids and contact all gone after i did a flashboot to unlock the bootloader. I didnt realise it would delete everything.
Do any of you know of a program that would recover contacts and pics from a HTC One?
Problem with these phones is you cant mount the storage?

There are some apps in the Play Store that may help. I stupidly formatted my internal memory once and lost some pictures I didn't have backed up. Needless to say, both Dropbox and G+ back them up for me now.
This is the one I used: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.defianttech.diskdigger&hl=en

contacts should be backed with google. as for messages, they might get recovered with the app but they dont get back up anywhere.

Assuming it's the Verizon One, I would suggest switching to Verizon Messages. It allows you to text from any WiFi tablet as if it's your phone and also syncs messages to the cloud.

I have a Verizon LG G3. It is not rooted nor do I have any backups. I've searched online and found several programs, however I cannot get any of them to work. Can anyone tip me in the right direction? I accidentally deleted all my texts late last night.

Last night seems like a long time to try and recover those texts. Most likely, the deleted data is already overwritten. Next time use SMS Backup and Restore to backup your texts.

Call your carrier and ask them if they can recover them for you. If not you need a court order (warrant).
No, no court warrant. A contractor I hired flaked on me, so I put a stop payment on the check. He is threatening to sue me for the money he is not entitled to. I had messages showing I "fired him", but for some stupid reason, I deleted all my texts last night.
When I first got the phone, it gave me an option to restore texts. It restored a bunch from months prior. Do you think if I do a master reset, I could get them back that way?

No. A master reset wouldn't magically retrieve them. The only option is calling the carrier and see if they can print you out a transcript of those texts. They should be able to.

Here is a how-to to recover deleted messages.

Do this quickly because the longer you wait the less likely you will succeed. Good luck.

I cant get any of those to work on my phone for some reason. No matter what I do.
I got them. I retrieved them online in my Verizon account. Crazy. Every text is there.
