Seeing that my ppc friends in the world request me to publish a WM6 version, I have made some amendment of the Wm5 version so as to fit WM6 users,

Why is this discouraging, it is only a mirror. It is not like he is trying to claim you work as his own. Mirrors are a good thing.

The problem with registering with any new site is that within 1 week of registering on it (no matter what type of site it is), is that your spam content seems to increase and people then have access to your IP (which leads to trojans, attacks, etc.).
I, like most people, like to keep as much of my information for myself. And, that whole attack thing, it just sucks.
I never got good marks for sharing in grade school.
That being said, I personally am glad that you have shared this with us. At least with the mirrors listed, you know where your file is being distributed. It is not like someone put it on emule and you have no earthly idea where it is.

Please forgive my ignorance but I will like to have some more information about this.
When you say "All rights" are you talking about the:
The IPHONE brand?
The Artwork including icons?
About the legal stuff:
If you are giving this "software" away for free, under which license is your work protected?
Can we have a copy of such license, if any?
Please with your answer provide the country of origin as well as any other pertinent information within the legal framework.

Carramba... just installed this stuff on my spv m3100.
Everything is ok although...
- no sound
- white menu screen (with white fonts )
- couple of minor things... (eg. HTweakC doesn't work...)
Am I stupid or something?
Any ideas? (tried to change today theme 100 times...)

Well, I know I'm rather noob but maybe someone more clever could think it out...
We have many attempts to flash our devices with "white screen effect".
Some of us reports that have bad blocks, but in different areas. Think that mayby this is way with no way out.
Symptom remains the same always. White screen.
Important is that in fact - system works good (eg filesystem, core, etc...). After taping a screen with stylus - we can calibrate it and go on.
Then we have today screen with no background, a telephone pad with no background, media player with no background... In fact it's such annoying that we can't use our system.
We can even use our camera and record a video or take a picture, but we can not see it.
But not always... if we use "full screen" mode - we can see our films... - strange? isn't it?
Maybe system after flash have some "very small" defect concerning missing ability to scaling down bitmaps or something?
Maybe some stupid modification of graphical engine of our phone after flash will result in getting fully healthy system?
Maybe someone wiser will think it out?

Building a dialpad is quite difficult, i fully understand the feeling of xelashiu.

xelashiu, you are doing an excellent job with these dialpads, and it is completely within your right to restrict others from mirroring your works. However, you must make it clear on your website and/or in your posts what rights are given to people in regard to your works. If it is just a download without any license info, people will usually assume "public domain" which means anyone can do anything with it. I am not saying that people should assume that, nor am I saying that it's a correct assumption. What I am saying is that you should tell people what they can and can't do with your works, otherwise they will assume total freedom.
Please do not let this incident discourage you from making more of your great dialpads.

Need to know color in HEX (eg. #FF9900)
INSTRUCTIONS:
In Root Tools, swipe to Registry, then Navigate to \Local Machine\ControlPanel\Themes
Now be careful! If you want to edit the LIGHT theme, press 0. If you want to edit the DARK theme, press 1.
Click on BaseThemeColor, then change the value data to your HEX code
Scroll down and do the same to PageBackgroundColor and TextHighContrast.
Go to settings, chose your theme, and VIOLA!

I don't mean to sound angry, but you should really think before talking.

Search before posting. It's right there in the forum rules. You may call him "kind of a douche" if you like, but from our perspective this is spam.
At most, this is worthy of yet another reference to it in the Registry Tweaks thread. I could understand creating a new thread if you'd released a new app to automate it (because there totally aren't enough theming apps yet...) but even if this were a brand new tweak, it should have gone in the existing registry tweaking thread.
That said, I do appreciate your desire to help explain the exact steps. Just, please consider the most apropriate avenue for doing so.

Looks like you are a really smart boy

I don't think you guys understand. I was just trying to make a clear step by step guide to doing what i thought was a pretty cool tweak.
As you can see, I just recently migrated from android, and I'm loving windows phone so far. I guess the WP dev community is a bit different, and that's just something i'll have to learn to get used to.
That said, what do you think i should do next? Delete the thread? post it in a different forum?

PS: the "for like a month" part was a bit exagerated. I only got my WP device 2 weeks ago

My inclination would just be to lock it and let it fall of the first page (I'm aware that posting this bumps it, but meh). I don't frequent the Adroid forums, but if they're cool with (or full of) people "discovering" a tweak (you can't even call it a hack; the registry editor itself is the hack, this is just one way to use it) and making a post in the OS-wide dev&hacking sub-forum... Oh, and then there's the fact that the registry tweak thread (which has been running for well over a year) shows up right away if you type the first three words of your subject line into the Search.
I've made this mistake before - come new to a community, figured something out, thought it was super-cool, and posted about it without checking if anybody was likely to benefit from my post. I've done that once, to be more specific. It's embarrassing, but no real harm done. This is probably the reason that actual newbies to the forum (as opposed to people in your position, with lots of posts in another section) aren't initially allowed to start threads in this section. It gives people time to learn how the forum works.
Take your lumps, let the thread die, and start seeing if you can build on what we already know. There are still lots of cool hacks and tweaks to be discovered within this OS. We do welcome newbies with cool new hacks, for sure. Just, please make sure it's actually new (for example, with anything relating to the registry, do a search on the relevant registry key). Also bear in mind that new threads in this section usually include apps or other simple ways to apply the hack (for example, not everybody can run WP7 Root Tools).

I honestly don't see the harm, and think you're all being a little douchy. This isn't just a place where the "regulars" come to pat each other on the back, there are plenty of us who had no idea such a thing was possible and would be (are) grateful for the post. I don't go digging through the registry on my own, because I know I'd break something. So this simple post showing me what to do and what it looks like is much appreciated.
What are you all worried about? That this one thread will bump your uber-super-awesome-cool thread off the first page? Give the guy a break. I've been checking out every interesting thread in this forum for 6 months and hadn't noticed someone posting this tweak in this way.

Im about to switch to Android altogether because of snobism of Microsoft (I cant blame Microsoft really) ,but like in the Android section xda has run out some of the best devs there was ,hell most of them arent even considered devs ,not sure why either, BTW that was a very clear and concise guide

Also, here's an update on the app:
I will not have a chance to work on this again for a few more days. As it stands now, a user can search forums, select a forum, view individual forums (like subforums) within a forum, and view topics within each forum. Forums stats are also viewable, and the app saves a history on which forums you have gone to.
While it may not seem like a lot, these functions, combined with designing the UI, also combined with figuring out how the Tapatalk service works and building a base to connect to various parts really has taken a lot of time. While it can get very frusterating at times, I am still working hard on it and hope to release a beta in the next couple of weeks. I'm very sorry it's so far away, I just underestimated the difficulty of dealing with the Tapatalk service.
To developers: The Tapatalk API uses XML-RPC, which in my opinion, is ridiculous. A lot of things are base64 encoded and I read that XML-RPC is 4x heavier than XML, let alone JSON. Also, with XML-RPC, the response model cannot be serialized very easily. I've developed a system to do so but takes a lot of work to do for each new data type.
Basically, the Tapatalk API is more complex and harder to work with (at least to me) than anything else I've developed an app for, including Box.net, Pastebin.com, sports scores apps, RSS feeds, Edmunds.com, and AudioGalaxy.com.

first of all i want to thank you very much for creating your great rom.
after installing it, it was the first time i had a responsive smartphone.
as we all know, android is open source and as the Apache License states, derived work must be open source, too.
so will you provide a source code repository or (at least) a downloadable zip of your rom sources somewhere?
this is less about obeying the rules, i'm just frightened, something might happen to you so you can't continue working on the rom and all your work would be lost...

he built it from source as in built from scratch

well - sure he built it from source - from HIS sources
this isn't AOSP vanilla, it's a modified version of the android source, so those sources must be republished

sorry, don't want to be offensive, but this is nonsense.
there's nothing to need permission for.
as long as it's an android rom (which it really seems to be), it is work derived from AOSP and there the license clearly points out what I stated.

and even if it wasn't - this doesn't answer my concerns regarding him not being able (or wanting) to continue development.

@rolandkohn don't get me wrong but it's 1ce's decision. He is not forced to release anything because shpongle is a personal project. 1ce built it for himself and was kind enough to share it for free. If he pleases he can also remove the download links and you can't do anything about it. Hence the best approach will be to kindly ask him for source code and not talk about licensing or trying to force his hand. You can take the licensing part with HTC if you want to fight that battle.

i first wanted to write this as a personal message, but in the end (as a software developer myelf who wants his licensing terms be cared about), i think this is something important enough for everyone on xda to think about:
please - everyone here - don't get ME wrong...
it's absolutely not that i woud want to force anyone to do something.
as you can see in my first post i was just asking if he would release the source, as i was worried about the future of the project because he's getting a new phone.
for that part, this thread is answered to me. i'm fine with it, no need for further discussion!
now about the licensing part and - as it seems to me, some general misunderstandings here on XDA:
sorry, but you're so wrong. he definitely IS forced to release its source. the apache license (which applies to android) states so. those licenses aren't only about comercial projects, they are about using the original source and doing something with it - You can imagine it as a contract between google and the developer, google gives the sources out for free, but want the terms to be followed in return.
Everyone who is involved into development (and if it's even just using the rom) can be happy, that google is offering android (the open source parts) for free under the apache license. google invested quite some man hours (and money) into android and they've been so kind to let it be open source. anyhow this (the apache license) states that any modification to the source must be made public for everyone (in special the original license holder) to see the changes, to learn from them and to make things in their projects better. if any develper doesn't accept the licensing terms, you don't need to use the sources to do something with them.
btw - it's not my fault that some smartphone manufacturers (e.g. as mentioned htc) don't care about this.

@rolandkohn I can understand that you are afraid that shpongle development might be over since 1ce has bought a new device and that you or anyone else would like to get 1ce sources to continue the development. My reply was about your tone. It would have been better if you asked nicely, instead of being (kind of) rude.
PS: are you sure that the licensing applies to all the projects? For example I am playing with CM sources and I'm building a ROM for personal use. Am I forced to make those sources public? I don't think so.

well - another very big excuse from my side.
i did quite some reading meanwhile and i have to admit - seems i was wrong.
please - everyone excuse me for my aggressive behavior, it seems i somehow mixed GPL/AL. :angel:
as i've read now, you're indeed allowed to even create proprietary work - so software you charge people for - out of AL licensed code.
this means that even HTC & such are fine with not releasing their sources, as long as it's not about GPL licensed stuff (e.g. the kernel).

As you might see, we did that a couple of weeks ago, but we wanted to fix an important issue before sharing it with you. We were not able to do as fast as we wanted, so we do the update anyway
We were able to integrate a new networking layer, without violating the Store guidelines, work-around the threading limitations (with a hack, though) and rewrite some more code.
So far, the main issue is that to pass the validation, we had to cut the audio completely.
Who needs audio to play a movie anyway?
We have a theoretical solution, but it still fails for unknown reasons.
We are working on fixing this audio issue and we will share a build to you backers, as soon as it is done.

I have read about your partial port for WinRT, but me and a lot of People in the xda-developer Forum ask ourself if you are talking about Windows RT, because it is stated that it is for Windows 8 etc.(x86-x64) and not ARM.
Are you going to release a port for WindowsRT (arm) usable on a device like Surface RT-Tablet?
If you answer me please tell me, if i’m allowed to post your answer in the xda-forum or not.

Thanks for sharing, though there's actually nothing new in there... it's been known for months now (ever since the kickstarter was funded) that RT and WP8 ports were planned, following the "Metro" (WinRT) build.
A much more interesting question, although one much less likely to get an affirmative answer, would be "any chance you could provide, or at least enable us to buid for ourselves, a version of VLC which is compiled for WoA (Windows RT) desktop?". Jailbreak obviously required, but screw "Metro" anyhow...

Cool, thanks. Alternatively, they could share the .APPX for any working versions they have, even if they use prohibited APIs and therefore aren't allowed in the store. It's not like the rest of us give a <REDACTED> for Microsoft's restrictions...

Never thought i would get an answer, and wanted to thank you, for taking your time.
A lot of People were soo thankful for that state of Progress.
Since almost everybody is able to run unsigned code (thanks to the jailbreak), I was wondering, if you could provide an unsigned beta (store-independant) or enable us to build ourselfes, a version of VLC which is compiled for WoA (Windows RT) desktop? (no signing or modern ui needed)
I would collect all Feedback from xda and send it to you (perhaps some of us could do some work to help you)

In order to compile for WoA, we need a compiler able to compile for WoA
and able to compile VLC.

As far as I know, we got a tutorial for compiling with targeting ARM. Should I send them our tutorial? If yes, then plz give me the proper URL for the post, which could help them the most.

VLC is using MinGW, and MinGW has no support for RT. Only VisualStudio, and this will not work.

I'm surprised that this is not going to happen. I was always under the assumption that the VLC player for the kickstarter was for RT? How is this not going to happen now?

Thank to ffmpeg port. But now I upgrade to Windows RT 8.1. I don't sure what will done before. RT 8.1 hacked, WinRT VLC or I paid for some app.

I am looking forward to VLC launching for WinRT and ARM too. Not top of my list though seeming as I am using a normal laptop with VLC on desktop and a regular desktop PC too.
