Hi chaps - I am sure I have set up the alert settings for my text messages but get no noise and can only tell I have a message when I get a 'notification' - any help most welcome - regards Roger
RTFM.
Look in settings, personal, sound notifications, then select reminders and select you want a sound.
OR
Do a hard reset and all the factory settings will be back ok.
Thanks for that twiggerdingo - I have set the sound notifications but still no sound - I am a bit loathe to do a hard reset and then have to reinstall all my programmes and settings ! unless I'm missing something (no change there) best Roger
ok, not that obvious in this case...
Can you hook on your ppc to an xp outlook pc?
Are you sure that all appointments have proper settings for giving a reminder (standard 15 mins, but you can change it and also deselect this standard setting).
Ok also sure you have a sound set for reminders in sound settings. also select the checkbox in settings->sounds¬ifications>sounds (first three selected) and in the notifications tab if you have a proper sound set up for your reminders?
Do you have ANY sound anyway (speaker blown ie)?
Let me know and we will see.
--- Edit---
Look into this program too.

Maybe you have messed up notifications. A common bug so it seems. I do a lot of maintenance with pocket mechanic myself, it contains a notfication cleaner (duplicate remover) too, and havent got your problem though.
Thanks again Twiggerdingo - your post prompted me to tick the third box - I just didn't think (though I should have tried it anyway) that the "Programmes" button should have been ticked (after all I got a ring when a call came in) ! heyho ! best roger
Ok good to hear all is well now. Glad I could give a little help!

Hi,
Is there any way or a software that is able to remind me with a sound when I have missed a call or I dont already have read an SMS ?
I have tried "PhoneAlarm" but it doesnt work.
Thanks
phone alarm works perfectly for me...what issues are you having?
Thanks for your answer.
I have tried PhoneAlarm Pro 2.0.04 (#285) and nothing happens.
In the "Menu" tab, I have checked "Missed Calls" and "SMS".
In the "Alarms" tab, I have defined Repeat "3x every 1 min rpt 5x" and always "vibrate if in silence mode"
In the "Advanced" tab : Default settings
In the "Profiles" tab : Default Settings (but I dont know where can I found my "Profile" listed in the list on this page.
In the "Extras" tab : nothing checked
Thank you
hmmm..that looks about right to me.
I don't actually use the default settings though. Have you tried changing the current profile to make sure you are on the correct one? you can do this via the today plug in (I would recommend downloading a more user friendly one as the default is pants)
It should be nice if you can give me more informations about the "today plugin" please.
I am not sure to understand what can I do, right now sorry
Thanks
Hmmm here are the tests I have done :
I have disabled TouchFlo3D on today screen and then enabled "PhoneAlarms" on Today screen --> IT WORKS !
I have disabled "PhoneAlarms" on today screen, then enabled "TouchFlo3D" --> IT DOESNT WORK
I have enabled "PhoneAlarms" on today screen, then enabled "TouchFlo3D" --> IT DOESNT WORK
ah..ok...I dumped TF3D about 30 seconds after I got the phone, so I wouldn't have been able to pick this fault up. apologies.
Thanks twisted I think its ok now
I have installed SecondToday and I have checked PhoneAlarms and TouchFlo3D (with Start option : ON for each ones) and now it works
I have alarmpal from http://www.pocketmax.net/alarmPal.html
It does cost a little but not much and works very well.
It fixes this alarm not repeating problem in the rubbish WM 6.1 !
Morning all, got my desire 2 days ago and still trying to get used to it after leaving my HD2. 1 thing i am annoyed at is the apparent inability to turn the notification bar off for sms, received/sent and STILL get a sound/vibrate.
I have found the settings in messages and handcert as i use that as my default sms now.
If i remove the tick from notification bar (in messages menu) and the sound 1 is ticked but then grays out. Nothing is shown or more importantly HEARD even though its ticked but grayed out. I have done the same for the handcert but it seems the notification settings in the messages program override the handcert ones.
Basically i want to have NO notifications on the notification bar but for it to make a sound and vibrate. Can it be done?

You could try duck tape?
Seriously its only fully visable if you pull it down, can't you just ignore it?
no really helpful that, i can ofc course ignore it. but being a non winMo i thought you could edit it so it just never showed up. i'd just prefer not to have to drag the thing down and click clear every time i send/receive a msg.
not asking much for such a customisable phone or so i thought.

If you read the message the notification disappears...
And you can change your whole ''desktop'' except the notification bar as far as I know.
Maybe a rom cooker can edit the android files but out of the box? No you can't change it. Sorry
And many people see the notification tab as a plus, and I do to I really have
a hard time imaging getting annoyed with it so sorry for my first response but it goes in the list of (for example)
1. I hate androids open source way of doing things, wich really is a virtue of android. 2. I hate htc sense (then don't buy it)
thanks for the reply.
I am just slightly annoyed that changing the settings in the original messages settings conflict and over ride the handcert sms ones. gonna try chomp and see if those settings can take priority over the default messages app.

You can set the settings for each program, if you want to turn off notifications, you can do that.
I have turned off notifications from the deafult messaging app and uses hancent's notifications.
If you dont want any og those apps notifications you have to turn them both off
Hello, everyone;
I've got a TP2 on WinMo 6.5 Pro, and would like to modify it a wee bit to do the following.
First, the signal lost, call dropped window that pops up. I'm an over the road truck driver, and this happens alot in the mountains. Is there any way to disable this silly message?
Second, the backlight always comes on whenever it looses/regains a signal. This is an extreme annoyance, bordering on dangerous, situation when driving at night and I am constantly distracted by the sudden glow from the screen. Can this be disabled?
Finally, emails. Is there a setting that will force the entire email to download, doing away with the tap-here-to-download-entire-message thing?
Much appreciated, everyone, and best wishes for a great day!
Fred
Not sure on 1 or 2, sorry. For 3:
-Launch the inbox (Microsoft version, not Sense). Scroll to Email tab and tap Inbox
-Menu --> Tools --> Options
-Tap on the account
-Tap on "Download Size Settings"
-Message download limit dropdown --> Entire Message
-Download Attachments dropdown --> All attachments
Edit: Not really a solution for the second issue, but if you turn on the "Automatically adjust backlight" feature it won't be quite so bright when it does turn on. Start --> Settings --> System --> Power. Check "Automatically adjust backlight".
Perfect! Issue 3 solved. Thanks, bud.
Anyone for the other two?
entire message
From the inbox of an email account - tap the soft button to the right of the keyboard one (menu?). tap on tools then options - tap on the account you wish to modify. You should see an option for Download Size Settings - select "entire message from the bottom drop down menu then click done.
If you are going through an Exchange Server then run the Activesync app on the phone. Click menu then options. Hightlight "email" then tap on settings. Change the download size limit to "entire message" and ok your way out.
I can't help with the other issues as I am new to this phone too.
Ok. Someone beat me to it.
No worries, mate, thanks for chiming in. You did illuminate another method, and thankfully you two have solved one annoying issue. The others will require entering the registery, I'm sure.
Thanks!

On the Email Issue, go to the inbox, tap and hold to bring up the context menu, select Tools / Options, and you can modify the download settings.
settings\sounds and notifications\ notifications tab... in there you can change what different 'events' do.
If there is a setting in your phone for what you want it will be in there.. if not It's likely a registry change you need to do. That I cant help you with as I wouldn't know what you need to change specifically.
I am facing a couple of issues that I can't find a solution to it, so I thought I share them with you hoping that you can help me solve them.
When I receive an email there comes a notification sound (which is ok ) but if I delete the same message from my laptop that I had just received, the notification sound once again appears. This happens everytime regardless if I receive or delete any messages.
When browsing with the installed browser or Delphin browser, when I want to return to the previous page, it brings me back to the top of that page and not to the place where I was reading that page. The topic I was reading could have been at the middle of that page and I want the browser to bring me back to the same place as I was.
I can't find the place to disable the notification sound, last time I did it was for couple of months ago, I guess it was in: Setting ->Cyanogenmode setting -> and Interface. I need to disable it as I sometimes receive emails in the middle of night and is driving me crazy.
thanks in advance
I dont think you can disable the notifications, but with cm you can set silent hours in wich ur phone will shut up.
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda app-developers app
But I am sure that I disabled the notifocation once, but just can't find it again

You can disable the notification sound by going into Settings -> Sound -> Notification ringtone, and selecting silent (at the top).
Or go to Settings -> Sound -> Volume, uncheck use incoming call volume for notifications, and set notification volume to 0.
Sent from my GT-S5660
disabled the notification sound by choosing none ringtone.
anyone have an idea for solving two other issues?
I've never had this problem before with my Note II, but every time I get an email through the Gmail app or the Nine app (work email), the phone vibrates.
For gmail, I have the 'Notifications' box checked and within the 'Inbox sound & vibrate' I have 'Label notifications' checked, Sound set to a non-default ringtone (in case the default ringtone was the thing forcing the vibrate), Vibrate unchecked and 'Notify for every message' unchecked as well.
In Nine, pretty much the same setup. Vibrate is unchecked and sound is changed to something non-default.
Any thoughts?
I still haven't been able to find a solution. Anyone have any thoughts/experiencing the same problem?

One last try to get an answer. Hoping with more people having the phone now, someone will know.
