[Q] Stop vibrations on new email (gmail and nine) - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've never had this problem before with my Note II, but every time I get an email through the Gmail app or the Nine app (work email), the phone vibrates.
For gmail, I have the 'Notifications' box checked and within the 'Inbox sound & vibrate' I have 'Label notifications' checked, Sound set to a non-default ringtone (in case the default ringtone was the thing forcing the vibrate), Vibrate unchecked and 'Notify for every message' unchecked as well.
In Nine, pretty much the same setup. Vibrate is unchecked and sound is changed to something non-default.
Any thoughts?

I still haven't been able to find a solution. Anyone have any thoughts/experiencing the same problem?

One last try to get an answer. Hoping with more people having the phone now, someone will know.

No message alert tones

My TP2 has developed a problem where it doesn't beep when I get SMS or email messages, and the first I know is when I look at the phone and see the notification icons on the TF3D bar.
I have the tones turned on under settings>sounds and notifications>notifications. The event new text message has an alert, and I have tested the sound which does work, but it just doesn't seem to play when I get a new message, nor for emails.
Make sure "Notifications (alarms, reminders)" is checked in sounds & notifications setting panel.
Same problem with Windows Live mail... SMS and other email seems to work...
yes, i have checked that and it definitely is checked. any other suggestions anyone?
Do you use an application called Gyrator by any chance? I had this exact same issue with my SMS / email tones. Try quitting/disabling Gyrator and see if it has any effect in your case.
I've had the same problem since day 1 with my TP2. I configured my email accounts and they've never managed to play a notification. SMS works fine, but emails don't. I have 4 email accounts and have to continually check for the flashing green notification light.
I've settled on waiting to see if any 3rd party ROMs solve it, following release of HardSPL (it's an exciting wait!).
Oddly enough I seem to have the same issue with another screen rotator app called changeScreen. I wonder what it is that causes these screen rotator applications to disable the alert tone for both SMS and e-mails? I do get the blinking led though...
SOLUTION (for me)

It's wrong to assume screen rotation software is affecting the notifications. I had the problem before installing such software.
Incidentally, since my problem was confined to email notifications, I've installed a workaround in the form of GudenSoft's 'Email Scheduler'. When using that software, my email notification sounds are working just fine.
Here it is if anyone else wants to try it - http://www.gudensoft.com/emailscheduler/
yes, I do have Gyrator 2 installed, but I don't think that is the problem. I exited the application and sent myself a couple of texts from another phone and it still didn't give me an alert.
Oh well I think it is hard reset time. I'll install things one by one and try to find what causes my problem and let you know my findings!

[Q] Gmail 4.2 not respecting vibrate setting?

My GNex is running 4.2 now, and I've noticed that when the phone is on silent, the phone vibrates when new gmail messages come in. If I check the settings, it specifically says "Never" under vibrate settings.
Has Google changed Gmail's vibrate behavior in 4.2 so that Never actually means Sometimes?
Can anyone confirm?
I hope this gets fixed!

Yes, I have the same issue, for both Gmail and Calendar
It vibrates in ALL notifications. Someone knows how to disable it?
Regards!
Just a hunch, but I tried it and it worked. If you don't care about not having any notification for gmail (sound or vibrate) then set the notification sound to silent and vibrate never. Unfortunately you won't get sound if you want that, but at least it's not vibrating now.

I want to keep the vibration on for stuff like text messages, just not email. When I'm at work I can read my email on my computer, so I turn my phone to vibrate so that it's not beeping all day long. With 4.2, I've replaced beeping with vibrating. It's very annoying.
Google, never means NEVER!

This works for gmail, but not the email app that I use for my work email.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I'm having the same issue, and it's very annoying. I want to keep the image in the notification bar, but I don't want it to vibrate - like I had before the 4.2 update. I even tried toggling the notifications off and on and toggling between "only on silent" and "Never," but it continues to vibrate. I only want my phone to vibrate for text messages/google voice messages.
There is at least one bug ticket raised for this.

Star it to get it some attention.
Possible solution
Possible solution, for those of you who usually only run between sound and vibrate mode on your phone. Just go into the gmail settings and toggle the vibrate to "only in silent mode" you won't get a vibrating notification...
That's what I just set mine to do.

This didn't work for me. Always vibrates when in vibrate mode no matter what I have set. Funny enough, when I set the phone to silent mode there is no vibration even when it is set to 'Only in silent mode'.
I just hope this is identified as a bug and wasn't done on purpose. It's going to be an annoying few weeks while I wait for another OTA.
Any update to this? I'm having the same problem with text messages vibrating.
Same issue here. I have a custom 4.2 ROM flashed with this problem. I even tried reverting back to stock and reflashing. That did not solve the problem.
Same problem for me with official 4.2 OTA update, on a yakju galaxy nexus
That's no GMail bug, unfortunately it's a new "feature" introduced in Android 4.2. If you ar looking at the commits in AOSP, you can see it is a new system wide sound-to-vibrate conversion feature.
If you change the phone to vibrate mode, all applications which are playing notification sounds are then vibrating. Genious!
It should be possible to deactivate vibration therefor if you disable the notification sound in the specific app.

[Q] Persistant Gmail notifications with M9?

In my M9s settings menu I have my "Sound profile" set to "Normal". In gmail settings I have "Notifications" box checked, "Inbox sound and & vibrate"say "Sound on, notify once", tap "Sound & vibrate" I have "Sound set to Lilac" and "Vibrate" box is unchecked (s/b ?). When I receive a new email I get one "Lilac" notification as expected, but if I don't open the email (ie: sleeping) the phone will sound (not "Lilac" sound) and vibrate every 15 - 30 seconds until I open an email then the notifications stop until I receive a new email then it the phone starts the sound & vibrate happens again every 15-30 secs.
The same thing occurs if I have the phone's sound profile set to silent.
NONE of my phones have ever behaved this way. Any idea what is going on? This thing is going back if I can't make the Gmail notifications work correctly!
Thanks in advance for any insight to this issue.

not getting text or email notifications, not vibrating..

I am no longer receiving text message or email notifications on my watch. It doesn't buzz/vibrate. When I check the cards, the messages are there, the watch just isn't vibrating to let me know. I've restarted the watch, and resynced applications, and then restarted the watch after I re-synced apps, still nada. I've tested sitting still at my desk, so it isn't that I'm not feeling the buzz, it just isn't buzzing. It is vibrating for phone calls though. Suggestions?

Instead of restarting watch, I would unpair watch (bluetooth) & then factory reset the watch
Thanks, I tried doing a factory reset twice now. But I didn't unpair it first. I did uninstall all my android wear apps, or a I thought I did... but after the factory reset, some of apps came back, a timer and stopwatch. But they don't have companion apps on the phone, so I'm not sure how to uninstall them. But, the problem persists. I did discover that, at least at this point, it is only when the phone is in vibrate or silent mode. If the phone is on regular mode, then I do get the text notifications. Once I put it on vibrate, thaen I stop getting the notifications.

OK, I figured out how to uninstall the apps, which I did, unpaired it, did a factory reset, started all over from scratch, to no avail. Still not getting text message notifications... actually, the text messages come through, just no vibration to alert me. Same with emails, I get the emails, but no vibration. Oddly, I do get my Gmail emails with vibration alert. But no vibration alert for the non-gmail emails. This is not a good thing.. one th the things I liked most about the watch was to know when text emails came through and quickly check if it was something that needed prompt attention.

Well, not sure what changed, but texts and mail vibrations are working again.. thankfully... the only thing I can think of on the texts was that I switched over to hangouts on my phone. That didn't work too well, but the vibration notifications were working, then I switched back to the built in application. But, at least its working..

Not exactly a solution that gets at the root of the problem, but have you tried a third party notification app? Something like Feel the Wear? I believe that overrides the default vibration settings completely. I say that because the app needs its own "quiet time" setting and/or manual mute from your phone. Simply muting the watch via the pulldown menu won't stop the vibrations from the app.
So if you're still having issues using your preferred apps and getting alerts, perhaps give that a try?
THanks for the suggestion, will check it out...
I have the same issue. Tried everything it will not give me alerts to email or text messages. Wish I could figure this out...
A couple of things to try, change your messaging to hangouts (or other app), and see if you start getting notifications. When I switched to hangouts, I started getting the text message alerts. Then, when I switched back to the default app on my phone, the alerts (vibrations) continued. I had also gone into settings on the phone, I think it was under sound-notifications ... there was something in there that had email notifications turned off. I hadn't touched those settings, so I don't know how it got changed, but I recall there was something that seemed incorrect. I don't know if that was part of the problem or not...

I had a similar problem with my watch but only with vibrating. I figured out my problem was that if your phone doesn't vibrate, your watch won't vibrate. It actually mirrors the vibrate including custom vibration.
I have just hit the same problem, any solution guys? I get phone call notifications but nothing else no email or text message notifications...
Same problem... I get cards but no vibration. New watch. Motor vibrates when powering on.

Notification Vibrate Disabled if Ringer Set to Vibrate

Hi
About a month ago my phone stopped vibrating when I received SMS or whatsapp messages if my Ringer was set to vibrate.
Strangely, the option for notification vibrate becomes disabled or "greyed out" if i switch the ringer to 'vibrate'. (see pics)
It does vibrate just fine for a call- just not for notifications.
I am stock rooted, I was on 5.1.1 then updated to Marshmallow 6.0.1 -- no difference.
I've played with all the settings I can think of, with no help.
Any thoughts?
Apparently I'm not the only one, as I found this guy asking the identical question with a S6 edge on a different forum.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ion-vibrate-disabled-if-ringtone-vibrate.html
Nobody?
It's a strange glitch- no one has experienced a phone that vibrates fine for a call, but doesn't give the option to vibrate for a notification or text?
Some notification vibration settings must be set for that app. The screenshot you posted shows that notifications are set to vibrate.

Ah! Thank you so much for someone finally replying.
I must not have explained the screenshots correctly--- In the second screenshot-- I have set my RINGER to vibrate (as in for the phone).... and magically ALL NOTIFICATIONS GO SILENT (for every app and including SMS) -- not even vibrate--- and I lose the ability to change them to vibrate.
It used to be simple. Ringer set to ring, Notifications (whether for SMS, or any other app like calendar or whatsapp) would also ring. Ringer set to vibrate- notifications (again for all apps and SMS) would also go to vibrate.
Importantly I also would have control of the relative volumes/vibrations in both settings.
Now I only have that ability when the ringer is set to ring. If i set the ringer to VIBRATE--- then the notifications get totally silent-- -and are 'greyed out' so I can't change them.
It's weird.
Maybe I can't seem to explain it clearly, but I'm trying.
Thanks for the reply.

Sorry for the delay.
The answer is .... sort of....
The graying out issue never resolved, but magically it DOES vibrate now with messages. Perhaps that started to work with one of the updates I've installed.
Still seems bizarre to me, but as long as the functionality returned... i guess that is good enough.
