Vista + Windows Mobile Device Center = lost Radio ???? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hi,
Been trying to sync my MDA vario 2 (with tmobile WM6) with Vista using Windows Mobile Device Center. My phone crashed during the first sync, so I had to do a soft reset.
Now I cannot connect to phone network.
Tried a hard reset, and still no joy. Checked my Device information in settings and have found Radio version and Protocol version now blank.
Looks like somehow its deleted my radio!
Anyone had the same experiance? I assume I need to re-flash my phone.
I could re-flash, it will probably work.
My contract ends in a month, maybe I should try for a Vario3 from T-Mobile?
This is my 4th Vario 2 that has failed in 17 months
Just also noticed that the IMEI number is also missing!
I take it its now u/s ???

Hi...
I doubt Vista+MDC have caused the problem... This sounds suspiciously like "Sudden Radio Death syndrome" which I'm investigating at the moment. A reflash may work - but if it's sudden radio death your flash will get stuck between 8% and 48%.
To get through so many TyTNs in 17 months is either shockingly unlucky or something has been going radically wrong! What happened??
Anyway - try flashing a radio to it (try 1.43 which is a reasonable all-rounder for T_mob uk)
Anyway - Have a look at this thread that discusses the issue (and I've posted reasons/possible fixes to try - it's the enormous post on that page ) and this thread here regarding 1.5x radio'd devices suddenly dying like yours has.
Good Luck!

Hmmm
Just tried a reflash to the official t-mobile.....
It stopped at 11%, then gave a communication error.
BTW this phone has only been flashed once, 3 weeks old, and was flashed to the official T-Mobile WM6.
Just tried flashing again, its now stuck at 11% again as I type. The flashing software is giving Error 262.
Think radio has died

Help invalid or missing Sim anyone had this

Hi,
Here is the problem and the options that I have tried...
The phone works for some time, during this time I can receive and make calls. But suddenly it pops with a message "Invalid or Missing sim card. You can still make emergency calls if your service provider permits"
If I switch on the inflight mode and switch this mode off after 2-3 hours, it starts working. But the same message pops up after some time.
Below are the steps that I tried:
1) Upgraded the ROM to v1.13.188 (from O2 site)
2) Upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.0
3) Hard reset and soft reset etc...
How ever after the first upgrade of ROM it worked continusly for 3 days, but now it doesnot work for more than 2-3 hours, back to square one.
I havent tried the sim unlock. I couldnt find the unlock code and process from the link you had mailed.
Hope this will help you in suggesting the next steps to fix the issue.

Hi,
Please let us know the Rom version and radio stack you are using.
Have you tried downgrading back to the WM5 Rom and seeing if the problem persists?
I would guess that it is a dirty/damaged Sim card, have you tried cleaning the contacts on the sim card itself........... you can do this with a pencil rubber.........
Try the steps above and try another sim if u have one available, failing that post back some specific information on your Radio and Rom Versions.
Cheers,
Beast
happened to me too (after I dropped my JasJar)
I'm sorry to tell you this but the issue is not your software image.
This is a hardware problem.
I can tell you my JasJar dropped to the floor. phone speaker stopped working (but came back after the 2nd fall).
I then started to rarely get this "invalid SIM" message. I ignored it at first.
but it got more and more frequent until the phone was no longer usable.
I didn't change any firmware during that period. I blame only the crashes.
Something there must have cracked. cleaning the hardware didn't help for me.
I finally gave up and sent it to manufacture labs.
I had same problem and had to send it in and imate replaced the board for me and since it was within warranty it was done for free
ROM: 1.13.82 WWE
ROM Date: 11/30/05
Radio Version: 1.04.02
Protocol Version: 42.37.P8
Extended ROM Version: 1.13.188WWE
How ever after the first upgrade of ROM it worked continusly for 3 days, but now it doesnot work for more than 2-3 hours, back to square one.
and it hasnt been dropped so why would it work for 3 days then start doing this

What i did before i do my posting this is:
Hard reset 127 times
Soft reset anything like 200-300 times.
Read about 30 threads with that error and most reflect to this guide.
Readed this guide 5 times.

Same Problem
Hello again,
i have the same problem, i search for a result but now i upgrade the radio, but now i cant flash the radio again, it start to hang at 11%...
I had a similar problem on my Wizard one time.
I ended up fixing it by flashing on of the giant original shipping roms.
The rom includes everything and was the only way I could recover from the corrupt radio flash.
Hope this helps you.
Try testing your radio with other sim (some other operator's sim
is prefereabile, in your region)
hopes must not die. I will work again

these problems are caused be something glitching up in the flash, not the sim
Got the same problem: the radio died without any new flash
If you find a solution, I have some interest too

Try to flash again, i had same errors after i flashed some different ROM`s.
What i remember just right now:
I get a new sim card on thursday since then i have this no GSM error.
Now i`m scared to setup my connection because the device is running.
Had some connection losses but as long its working...
Not really.... i open Programms and scroll down then windows hang.
No UMTS connection i bought it because i want to read my emails, not just to make phone calls .
And to be honestly : to flash around
Still looking for a solution for that no GSM error.
Thank you for your attention.
Same Problem
I got an replacement from At&t because of the white screen effect on the Cingular version.
As soon as I load in the sim it gives me a no gsm message..
so i load up black X rc and the newest att radio and i still get the message..
So finally i hard reset a couple of times and it goes away..
Now the only thing is that the connection reset a lot and even flashing back to the original raido with an downgraded ipl and spl still doesn't solve that. I even got a new sim and no luck.
I even went to the point of simunlocking it and it still doesn't work.
Keep in mind that this is the new att 8525 and the cingular 8525 worked better even it i cudn't see the screen..lol
you guys have tried the file off this page, right?
http://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html
yea i tried the one off htc's website i get an error about 11% thru, any other ideas because im going crazy i have no gsm no phone service no service period!! HELP!!!
Yes, the latest supported wm5 is the one i had originally.
Any ideas from anyone?
hey..... just for understanding....
ur RADIO ROM version is - 1.16.00.00. Hope you know that this has to be separately updated, and is not included in any of the ROMs available in the cooked format e.g schaps....
may i suggest that you upgrade to one of the latest RADIO ROMs, available here - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
The 1.48 RADIO ROM seems particularly stable all around the world, so go ahead and give it a try - ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Hermes/HERM_Radio_Only_1.48.00.10_CustomRUU.rar
After that, you could choose Schap's latest ROM and upgrade to the same; and check if things work out.
EDIT: I see that you have flashed different radio roms already......
NOOB's ANSWER TO THIS PREDICAMENT: Downgrade to the offficial radio and ROM. And see to it that you restore your SPL i.e., follow the procedures of removing olipro.... and take it to your nearest O2 dealer...
Maybe this helps ?
How about this one:
Flash your ROM radio etc.
Take out the battery for 20 minutes.
Yesterday i flashed the original O2 ROM after it said No GSM again.
I was mad and took out the battery.
In the morning i inserted the battery again and since then no problem.
To test this if its really working i flashed a HTC ROM, after configuration etc. i took out the battery again, waited ~ 20 minutes.
Because it said no GSM again after flashing HTC ROM.
Looks like its working (for me)
Edit
No its not working
The original O2 ROM was working almost perfect just flashomanianing it back ... Hope it will work .
similar problem plz plz help
hey.. i would really appreciate if you guys could help me out with this one (i am a noob =(( )
One perfect night i loose reception and unable to retain it(no gsm). it seems like i cannot find my network (AT&T) i have the AT&T 8525 phone.
when i go to settings>system>device information, my radio field is blank, i persume thats the problem.. i have tried to install some, but none seem to go through completely.. I have installed vp's WM6 + addons ROM, but it is still blank..
It would be great if you could help me out, i really need the phone for my business.
Some info that might be usefull:
i have HERM100
IPL-1.04 (idk if thats needed)
SPL-2.10.Olipro
vp's WM6 works perfect but no GSM
i know that radio rom needs to be upgrade by itself my prob is that there is no radio it doesnt even read the IMEI, but i know it works because on my old Hermes it still works so its the phone, any ideas? i try to upgrade the radio rom, ive read all the forums on how to fix the radio rom only and nothing again it starts gets to like 11% or 12% then error 262. Flashed WM5 same error = No GSM
Sometimes it shows No R No G
Tested it with 3 different operators sim card.
Setup a complete new OS on my notebook (because i thought a virus maybe and it corrupted the downloaded files).
During the flash process i even dont breathe but no help
Flashed HTC ROM with radio 1.47... interrupted the second update/setup process.
Was ok for 3 hours.
Are we all just beta testers from HTC and MS ?
Im still getting the same issue. Although I unlocked and superCID the deviece I will try to get a warranty exchange on it. It was messing up before I did any of that so I don't think that it should matter. I just want my old Cingular 8525... but i guess i have to keep on trying until I get a good one.
Hi did you ever find a solution to the radio rom flash hanging at 11% i have the same problem I can flash the os but the radio rom always hangs at 11% so nice pda no phone options
Ladies and gentlemen, I had the same problem, and I fixed it. Here's my story.
I was an idiot one night. Pulling my trusty 8525 from my pocket to read a text message, I instead dropped it. On its face. On pavement. From waist height.
I know, I cringed, too.
Ever since then, I got the No GSM error, and radio ROMs refused to flash beyond 11%, except the original factory ship ROM which got as far as 12%. Everything else worked perfectly except the radio.
I took it to one of the IT guys at work who suggested that I may have damaged something on the mainboard, but here's another 8525 you can play with if you want, because it's in the recycle box and will be going out the door to be recycled soon and we won't see any money out of it anyway, so here, it's yours.
Problem was, 8525-b had video issues. SOMETIMES would get the whitescreen. ALWAYS wrapped the bottom ten or fifteen rows of pixels up to the top of the screen. But the phone worked flawlessly.
Then, I discovered that the "video card" is separate from the main circuit board. Therefore, 8525-a had problems with the mainboard, and 8525-b had problems with the videoboard.
The solution presents itself.
Took them both apart, took the mainboard from the 8525-b and installed it into the 8525-a.
My Hermes is back. Everything functions flawlessly, including the radio. And everything flashes, too.
Point of the story: I don't know if you dropped your phone or if maybe something else may have caused some damage, but the only way that I was able to work around the radio rom flash hanging at 11% issue was to replace the mainboard. I got lucky, I was good friends with the IT guy. But I was never able to find another solution.

Need help guys!!

I live in Bangladesh. Recently I visited Malaysia and bought a Dopod 838 Pro from there. I checked it over there and it worked fine. But after getting back, when I tried the mobile with my country's SIM, it gave a error message saying ' your current network 47001 is not supported, please ask your device vendor for an update' and I got a no service problem. In the available networks section my operator (GrameenPhone) isn't listed.I tried almost everything I could, upgraded to SPL v.7, tried different radio versions, tried different ROMs and modified windows mobile versions like Black version, Pays version etc. The best I got was I got a signal for 2-3 mins. During that time I could make and receive phone calls, it worked fine for that short time. But after that 2-3 mins. the signal drops and the phone starts checking for the signal and eventually I get a no service problem. I tried repeatedly but with the same result. This is so frustrating!!!! I love the phone, how can I make it work?? Hey guys, help me out please. Thanks.

Have you tried to SIM unlock it?? Take a look in the upgrading forum...READ READ READ before doing anything else ok?
Try a different more newer SIM card, or maybe a different provider!
Re:
Tried unlocking, different provider, different SIMs, everything I could think of but alas nothing worked. Any other ideas guys??
Still no luck guys!!
Hey guys, I'm still stuck with my problem here, appreciate your help. And I also need the radio ROM version 1.40.30.00 (that's the only radio ROM I couldn't try because when I clicked on the link shown in the forum I got a '550 Failed to change directory' error. Could someone plz re-opload the radio ROM somewhere and send me the link. Thanks.
Phone problems
Make sure you are SIM unlocked and not just Device unlocked. They are two different things. I've heard of some folks having to repeat the process a few times for it to "take". Good luck.
Hmmm... If an IMEI is reported as stolen etc would it cause the phone to work for a couple of minutes and than lose service? This may be something for you to check into. Just my 2 cents.

No GSM/No Service on XDA IIs (BA)

Hi,
When i first got my BA, i upgraded from WM2003 to WM6.
This worked ok for everything (A few glitches here and there but i could live with them), but then, my phone battery had ran out, i charged it and loaded it up again and it now shows No Service on the today screen, so I can't make any calls off it.
I also noticed that when the phone boots it shows No GSM where it used to have 2 different numbers.
I've tried reflashing it to WM5, and also to WM6.1 but both of these didn't seem to fix it. The WM6.1 version I used can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390862
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks!
Yes, fix is quick and easy and you can do it even at home: a soft reset.
Hi,
thanks for your reply,
I have tried soft and hard resets but this doesnt seem to fix it.
I wanted to try upgrading my Radio rom but when I ran the updater I got error 114. I'm not too sure what this means though?
Thanks!
Solution against "No Service" issue
Have a lot of Siemens SX66's. Just took one and ran unlocker, then flashed WM 6.0 and upgraded radio to 1.15.00. After that inserted SIM card and saw permanent "no service" message. Tried HR few times for no avail. Here's what really helped: I ran universal unlocker once again and then did soft reset. Voila! System booted and connected to GSM network. Hope somebody will find this useful.
Hi, All!
2 Larik007:
Did you have similate trouble with radiorom?
I have analogic problem with my BA (iMATE PDA2K)
At boot screen I see
No GSM
D 6.14 WWE
and boot process stops at this position.
Once my BA was booted up with this trouble, and goes to reboot and all repeats again.
I can't reflash radiorom.
At 61% I have "Error 114: Radiorom upgrade error"
I tried to reflash radioroms from 1.02 to 1.15, but nothing positive.
:-(
Can anybody help me?
No, my problem is because of some kind of error during unlock process, I guess. And your problem appears to be similar to "No GSM" issue of Hermes phones. But it may be repairable unlike Hermes ones...

I have the same "no service" issue. Can you give me a link for this magic universal unlocker
- what is this anyway?
Thanks!
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Unlock_Sim
Look for a link under word "this"
i had this problem, heres what i did that made it work,
1.re-insert the battery
2.press the on button
3.press the reset button TWICE
EVERY time you turn it off and on do this, but if you reset the phone you dont need to do it twice.
hope this works as it did for me,
Josh.
Partial solution for "No signal" problem
I think the idea was posted by xplode sometime ago- I spent a day playing with it, but it finally worked for me.
0) I had unlocked BA with 2003. Later on I upgraded it to WM 6.1 and then at some point I've got this "No service" issue. I upgraded my Radio to 1.15 (it did not help me- but I did this in the very beginning, so may be it matters)
1) I downgraded ROM to one of 2003 ROMs (xplode has a collection: http://tinyurl.com/cozbbx)
-) downgrade instructions are in here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_1.40.00_Upgrade
2) I unlocked band page for the network connection- it was discussed in (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297099)
2.5) I finally used this cab : http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=23788&d=1121269005 to set band selection to 900/1800 (still no service)
3) I removed sim card and did a hard reset followed by soft reset. I put a sim card back and soft reset BA.
--- I guess at this point it's 2003 with 900/1800 band and working
4) I upgraded my ROM to 6.5 and it is working now.
the link is dead.sorry for my bad english i've tried all the procedure but still had no gsm on my xda iis dont have imei and i cant see my radio version can you help me....
Lucky You that I still have troubleshooting tutorial in my file archive. I've written it by myself when was unlocking many of these devices.
Although I'm not sure if it will help with symptoms You listed...
Here it is what you can try to do if your Blueangel PDA phone constantly showing "No Carrier" and it is not possible to enter phone settings:
1. Take off the battery from the phone while it is turned on.
2. Place the battery back in, turn on the phone. At bootup there should be stated "NONE" instead of versions of "R" and "G" (seems that it is required to be so).
3. After OS had boot, run the Unlocker. Few times, maybe.
4. Reboot.

Hermes won't FLASH!

Houston I have a problem.
I have a HERMES200 with
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.10 Olipro
Radio: 1.50.00.00
that has been flashed a thousand times.
A month ago I flashed the original T-Mobile ROM 3.60.110.4 (ROM Date 09/05/07) and it worked well. Then my battery went dead and the phone was
off for a month or so. Now I got me self a new one and I wanted to flash it with
a new ROM but it's hanging on the Grey screen that says Loading....
I've read all the posts for two days now even the Wiki but I have no answer.
Tried to install Olipro 2.4 but after it asks to disconnect and reconnect the phone, Active sync will just turn off itself and the PC will find new hardware that will not work, and the phone is frozen.
It seems to me like it's loosing the connection with the PC. Tried two different machines but with the same problem.
Please advise!
will it flash from bootloader?
Flash from SD Card:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing
got exactly the same problem, looks like next course of action is to lend my pals' microsd card :<
