question: mobile IM for wm6? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

hey guys, I've recently upgraded to wm6 and found out that my mobile IM that i downloaded thru mediaNet does not work anymore. it was working fine on wm5 but i do not want to downgrade back to it. does anybody have any idea when it'll be available for wm6? i talked to an ATT rep about it and they do not know, thanks

I suggest you try Agile Mobile. Works great for me.

www.fring.com from your phone - both voice and standard IM on all networks - FREE

was looking for the same thing... tried agile messenger but it really sucks performance out the phone, i'd keep missing calls (newly formatted schaps rom too).
moved to IM+ but problem with that is that i keep getting an error on sign up that some contact is already on my list, and even if i remove it it gives the error. aside from that, its a fantastic app.
haven't tried fring, but will check it out now

Try Slick. It's a good IM program.

Oh yeah, Mundu IM is good too. It's only $11. I use it a lot. It's $8.80 right now at a holiday discount.

I have purchased both Agile and IM+
IM+ is a winner in my book and been using it since then.

don't all of these apps run by data? i like the standard mobile IM from ATT cause it uses sms. (i have a 1500 text/month plan)
but i got it to work finally.... i was using Shamanix`s Grass v2.2 rom... so i flashed the original ATT wm6 rom and it worked. for some reason i believe shamanix's rom was making the IM app try to log in thru wifi, while the ATT's connects with gprs
anybody know why?

Is there any messenger for ICQ which has a good history? Particularly, I would like to be able to import the history into Miranda on my desktop. It would be perfect if there's already a converter for Miranda but if the program only saves history as plain text files I coul surely write a converter myself...

Its not a problem with the ROM you use.
Go to "Connections"
Select "connections"
Then, "Advanced"
then, "select networks"
1. In option "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using" --- select " My work network"
2. In wireless option, don't forget to set the network cards to option "My network card connects to "The Internet"
Now, your wifi conx will be used for logging in.

FIDO GPRS SETTINGS HELP FOR IM portal

Before you go on to post "read the wiki" ,"search the thread noob" etcetc
Ive done that and i found no help for it other than some settings, which i already tried(didnt work) and ive gotten more settings from the fido csr
and ive plugged those in but still no.(tested gprs/edge by starting pocket IE)
no connection.
I've gotten the value pack for fido which includes the Instant messaging portal for msn and yahoo where i can chat and message and check email unlimited... now the only problem is i cant connect to gprs/edge to use it.
question 1. how do i get the dam settings to work?
question 2. am i able to use the messenger included in the rom? or do i need to use the one specifically for fido?
question 3. once the previous 2 are answered..... Am I able to make it where only the associated program uses gprs/edge for data..so that way if i use pocket ie on wifi i can still use watever im using with gprs?
ie: surf the net on wifi, while im chatting msn on gprs?
thats all i got for now,
I'm using a softbank x01ht with black majik rom.
Thanks for any help i receive.
When I first got a windows phone I was so determined to get it set for Fido's services. With my Universal it took me days to figure out what the settings were. I thought I knew everything after that. Turns out that there are a bunch of other factors such as MMS won't work until you've exchanged msg's with another FIDO customer. Also internet doesnt work without a proper plan first, it doesnt work like it used to , which was PAYG. Lastly the settings don't kick in until you reset the phone, and even then I have heard stories from some where it took upto half hour for some settings to kick in. I find it so complicated now that I seem to know where all the free wi-fi hotspots are around my area.
I hope this doesn't discourage you from figuring out ur settings through trial&error.
I encounter none of what you said. I dont use MMS so I am not familiar with ..all others is no big deal.
It takes me 30 seconds for set up and I am ready to go.
ps: I am on a unlimited for years.....
Well I guess it mustve been different with the Universal and your Hermes.
thanks for the feedback still havent figured it out as of yet though i do know theres supposed to be a dial out to *90# or something like that cant check the txt i received from fido right now.
anyways i hope to get it up soon, im gonna try to port over the IM program thats in my friends rogers tytn and see if i can change the settings on that thing for fido.
wish me luck
They toys bahave different

You bet money on it. I have an 8125 and also an 8525, both have exactly the same UI to set the connections up, however with exactly the same settings I´m able to surf the WEB, get GMail, all MSN Live services, etc only with my Wizard because with the Hermes I´m able to open just a very few wap sites. I´ve had this problem since day one with my Hermes and looking for a solution in this site and in many others I´ve found that I´m not the only lucky person with a $400 toy that performs worst than the cheapest Nokia, there´s a lot of people with same problem and nobody knows why this happens. (See my signature)
For those who've got it working, could you please share HOW? It would be much appreciated.

Ricky's 6.1 and missing T-Zones, etc.

ever since i have upgraded to Ricky's 6.1, i can no longer access T-Zones. there is no icon for it on the start menu and the t-zone button opens Celetask. i used the "Connection Setup", but get an error message that my Internet is not set up correctly when i try to open a page. at other times i receive a message that the page cannot be displayed because the connection was lost. what am i missing? is there a direct url to T-Zones? thanks.

yeah, i hear you. i tried the T-Mobile help, and they wanted me to hard boot the phone. i felt kinda sketchy, too, because it has a modified version of 6.1 and i didn't know if they would tell me to get lost since it wasn't "T-Mobile" approved. i tried these settings, too, and they didn't help. is this where you went for the programming instructions?

i just wanted to try and sign up for the $5.99/month plan. thanks.

Well opera and opera mini are different. If you want opera you could go to Mikeys page and download it there http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=a1e428ed720bdf418c9e7c56ba37815f8d6dc55236f5978e
or download Opera Mini at the above link, I have not seen a hack yet for opera mini but I am sure it is around if you look hard enough.

i'll try that. thanks. i'm sure it is Opera Mini that 6.1 (Ricky's ROM) is trying to install. i'll try the link you posted, though.

wmIRC

I've downloaded and installed the trial for wmIRC and it's working fine over WIFI on my HTC S621, but I can't get it to work over GPRS\EDGE ? I can use IE and Opera Mini without the WIFI.
Any ideas of what I can try, or are there other Windows Mobile Smartphone Standard IRC clients I could try?
Thank you,
Tim

make sure you start an edge connection before trying to log onto irc. i use wmirc daily and works through either connection. just open a browser and go to a website to initiate the data connection (for some reason wmirc will initiate *sometimes* and not others) then open irc and just hit connect. may take a sec to go through the ident and ****...but it gets there...

I've tried that, no luck. I don't have the ident option checked, but I never need it for WIFI. I'm just wondering if it's my carrier, Suncom blocking it. It's just strange to me that my email, IE, mini-opera, etc. works. But not this.
I'm looking now to see if I can find a way to link (or echo) messages over to an instant messenger ID. Because I know that I can get Palringo or some other IM client to work.
Thank you,
Tim

I wasnt so much talking about enabling indent..i was just talking about when you connect to the server and i queries the client..
what version of wmirc is it?
This probably doesn't help much but I have it working fine on another device over CDMA.
Honestly, prepare to be disappointed though. Its a very buggy program. The user lists tend to disappear, sometimes a new pm opens and switching from one to the next shows the same messages, and it randomly completely crashes.
There's also zsIRC at zsirc.com. However, this is many written for WM Pro, so there's a lot of things that you can't do if you don't have a touchscreen (also, you can't install the .cab on WM Standard and need to use the .exe installer.)
i agree. but for smartphone its really the only one that works. ive tried 3. wmirc, jirc and some other one that i cant remember.
as far as just chattin in a channel, its fine. ive had it up with no disconnects on the edge network for 8 hours. with wifi i have left on for days and it never crashed or disconnected. yea the user list is a little retarded, but thats a non issue for me. you can still use basic commands like /whois . i dont think its ever going to get better than this though. as far as i know, no one else is developing a new client.
so i guess just pick the lesser poison..if you want to run it through java (which i couldnt stand) try out jirc.
shoot me a pm and let me know what version you have. i will probably just give you a link to my site and you can try the one i have because i know it works. im running 6.1 rickys v. 24
I'm just using the standard 2.2 from the wmirc.com site.

I see the Edge (E) come up when I launch the IE so that means IE is trying to open the connection but does not bring anything back.

Hi, Newbs. When you flashed your phone did you use the "Sticky: The Guide for UPGRADING WM 6 to 6.1 with PICS and LINKS" I'm pretty sure you both skipped a step naughty naughty....
Well if you go to the Sticky and look at post #3 and run your connection setup like you were suppose too, we wouldn't be having this conversation . It honestly should be that simple.
Good Luck

Internet Explorer not working?
I've been able to figure out every other problem with my IE, but now this one has stumped me, and i need help.
i'm using Wifi, and for some reason i cant go to any websites. even a site such as google wont work.
I get an error that says "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again."
and i know for a fact that im not typing in "http://www.google.com" wrong. its not a hard one.
its not my connection. im sitting right next to my wireless modem and router and my computer is working fine. in the Comm Manager i have full Wifi service.
There was at one point when i a site to work, but then IE went back to the IE homepage on its own and wouldnt work again.
SOOO pleaseee, if anybody can help, please do
Thanks guys =]

Not sure if this will help but...
I have found that if I switch networks from my "E" data plan to my home WIFI, or vice-versa, I have to quite IE (press the pink tmobile button and select "close" for IE) then restart it and viola it works. I seem to have to do this anytime I was using IE on one network and then connect to another without my phone being turned off at anytime in between.
Hope that helps.

If you are running Ricky's v24:
Start > Accessories > Connection Setup
Run the Connection setup, select United States and T-Mobile. I think that you'll need a reboot after the settings update.

having the same problem and after running the connection set up again still getting the "http error $code$ $message$ requestURI=/"
I'm on the 5.99 t-zones. the really weird thing is right after the flash it was working then tried it about 30 min later and nothing. I've tried about 4 different variations of manual settings I can find. Any help?
I'm having the same problem with internet after upgrading to 6.1. Yes I have ran the connection setup and let it reboot, tried it twice with no luck. Txt messages still work, just doesn't seem to access any internet sites. I'm using the 19.99 plan and running Kavana's 6.1 080408 final. I have also tried using the manual settings provided by Tmobile
Any ideas?
does your MMS work?
if not call t-mobile to reenter you into their network. 5 minute call.
do the connection setup then do the tzones hack it worked fine for me and this is the second dash after my first one went out. Not one problem installing anything use search I dont post must as u see but I have done plenty of mods on thru this site without asking questions all the answers are out there just search and read.

WM6.5 Instant Messanging & WiFi

At present I do not have cellular data connect, only WiFi. Will WM6.5 Instant Messaging work on WiFi or do I need the Cell connect? At present I cannot get it to work.

Use a different IM client. IM plus is popular, as is Palringo for WM. Either one of those can connect to multiple chat clients over wifi. The stock one from the AT&T ROM is meant to connect over cellular data. This is most likely so that you have to buy their data plan.
cajunflavoredbob ,
I figured as much, but just wanted to make sure. Thanks for confirming
I have tried Palringo but didn't like it. Wanted something more simplistic. Hence Im using BeeJive for WM 6.5. I like it though once in a blue moon it freezes, prompting a soft reset. Its a beta and presently has been abandoned. Too bad, its a sweet little program, just needed a bit more time.
