I installed WM6 last night after CID unlocking my s620 hoping for the excitement that i had when had my HTC Wizard upgraded to PDA VIET's cooked ROM of WM6. I wasn't impressed enough to keep it, so i would like to highlight what i had found, which might repeat what others already know.
WM6 Beta Pros:
1. It is faster, it feels faster
2. New Microsoft Word, Excel edit capabilities
3. Press and hold the key and you will get the symbols instead of pushing the FN key to create !#$% symbols for example
4. All the other frills of WM6
WM6 Beta cons:
1. Because this is a T-Mobile ROM, and I am using it for Rogers, the additional customization for T-mobile is useless to me
2. The joggr has to be reset to use it as scroll instead of the volume function that the DASH uses - Reg edit will fix this
3. For some reason, as noted in another thread, the keyboard search from the home screen doesnt work right. Instead it acts like a phone keypad. For example searching for a name to call - key 2 acts like ABC insetead of E!!
4. SNAPIN issue - will send SMS messages to the UK, costs you international monies - fix is to delete the folder
5. Incompatibilities with Blackberry connect
I went back to WM5 and I will wait for a newer or cooked rom of this. ITs not worth it to me to flip to WM6. Being that i was using WM6 for a long time on my HTC wizard, this version of WM6 is way more inferior on the DASH/s620 than when it was put togetehr for the wizard.
My recommendation is to wait for another release.
While your PROS are legit, I have to disagree with your CONS.
All of the CONS you list are easily fixed with the exception of 3 and 5. Many don't use Blackberry and #3 is one small inconvenience for a leaked ROM IMHO. When you compare it to having Word, Excel, and Power Point, it's a good trade off. #4 is still not entirely fixed by deleting that folder. On Cingular I still get the junk text message when booting my phone. THIS is what ruined it for me. Since I don't know what's causing it, I don't fully trust it.
I also went back to WM5 to be fair. The s620 FW is stable as hell and very fast. I wouldn't use the standard T-Mobile WM6 ROM once it's released due to the crap they are putting on it. I'll wait for a generic like Dopod or HTC before I upgrade again.
Man I liked the native Word and Excel support. I can't wait...

To solve the blackberry connect problem check out this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294218&highlight=blackberry+connect
Actually you ahve very valid points, and i agree the stock 405.4 ROM on the S620 is super fast. This is the way i see it.
HTC Wizard
WM5 cooked rom to WM6 cooked rom ==> HUGE IMPROVEMENT
HTC S620
WM5 stock 405.4 rom to WM6 beta ==> Minimal improvement.
THis thread was just to warn that its not really worth a great deal to switch from an already great ROM.

nice summary. i'm going to wait for a nice cooked rom or offical one being installing it.
if it weren't for the SMS issue, I'd have stuck with it. I really liked the HTML email and the office apps.
But the official ROM is only a month or so away. If HTC releases this for the s620, it will be a great ROM...
I'm waiting for the official...

There are easy workarounds for the keypad, and Doc2Go doesn't allow you to edit Office docs (does it?).
of course it does. but office in wm6 does not allow to create new docs.

Yes, please, for the love of God tell us the workaround!
i believe the workaround is to hold down on the keypad and let it cycle through the letters. it really doesn't take very long to get to the letter you need.
not a big deal imo.
Docs To Go is laggy IMHO on my Dash running WM5.

This is not the workaround. For example, we don't want the "4/s" key to represent "I,H,G". This key should just represent "s". This is what a QWERTY keypad is meant for (among other things)!

I can almost guarantee this will be fixed in the final version. It appears to be an implementation issue. I bet you a reg edit will fix this.. Anybody know where to find the reg edit key?

I guess this may differ since you don't have T-Mobile, but that functionality already exists in my Dash, Windows Mobile 5. I bought it 3 days ago and saw that tip on a site. It definitely helps not having to press the Alt key.
Sorry for the removal. Please read reason for editing.
good work, I'll test soon
Thanks
Well done! everything working as it should, no need to tweak gprs and previous splash is a nice plus! Thanks again.
Very Good ROM! Thanks
I just installed the ROM on an O2 XDA. So far it works thanks!
I used the trick to soft restart at the countdown to prevent all the guff being installed.
The main reason for this upgrade was the device using the latest official O2 ROM from I think 2006 the bluetooth does not work properly with my jag hands-free. But with this ROM it seems to work so thanks very much. At last I can use my phone in the car.
The exact version I flashed was using the CID bypassed version, copied in the 3 files from the official Tmobile then replaced one of them with the vanilla install. This I gathered was the thing to do after much forum reading.
I have a few of questions:
How do I select any of the cabs that I skipped installing and install them? Where are they? How do I know what they are and if they are any use?
My old ROM based on AKU2(.2?) had a program called task manager which I used to see what was running and end it (usually the media player). Has this been replaced in this version and if so what by and if not where can I get it?

It says in the 1st post.....
It's basically the latest (September 2007) AKU3.3 T-Mobile rom but with all the horrid looking branding ripped out and the god awful dialer pad reskinned with O2's much nicer one.
Is that a bit clearer for you?

Congrats on the new ROM PSIdoc!
Old story back again with this rom: green light flashing but device off line, no incoming or outgoing calls untill soft reset and randomly same problem faced again.
it'a so good that i actually want someone to come up with bug report.i dont know about the green light flashing.i dont have them?
@tailazoom
What radio version are you using mate? I know that 1.18 has some known crashing problems with WM5. The original rom was bundled with 1.17. Perhaps downgrading to 1.15 may sort it out as I know that os rock solid. I am using said bundled 1.17 and have so far only had 1 problem with a GPRS failure to connect. I couldn't pinpoint it 100% to the radio, so I am waiting for it to happen again.
Just my own thoughts.

Thanks PsiDOC for answering. I'm using radio 1.17 and with the official t-mobile wwe aku3.3 i have no problems except:
1) iexplorer unable to connect unless i use a program to tweak gprs settings
2) unable to force manually GSM band
what can i do with this file?how can i install it on my qtek 9000?
This looks as though it could be just what I need, rather than going to WM6What was taken out from this vanilla version compared to the full flavoured one.
Will you be doing a full flavoured version with your tweaks to get rid of the awfull branding stuff. Regards John
JohnWB,
The vanilla version is as the rom came from the OEM, in this case T-Mobile, with nothing added into it. The only things changed in the rom is all the T-Mobile branding is removed and the Dialler Skin replaced, purely beus it was painful on the eyes!
A fully loaded version means that extra apps have been added to the rom that saves you the trouble and the storage space. This can be pretty much anything with tweaking of the rom.
I am currently testing this rom with a few apps added in the rom, including:
Opera 8 web Browser,
Ps Shut XP. (WM Reboot Tool)
Registry Editor
Contacts Backup
SMS Message Backup
Notepad
Mobile Office 2007 (Word, Exel, Powerpoint & One Note) - Still Buggy Though
And a few others
Am also thinking about reskinning the entire rom with a "The Matrix" style theme as the default. Maybe I have said too much here....
Sadly am working 10 hours a day, 7 days a week at the mo as we have a big job on where I work, so not much time to progress it at the mo but I am doing a bit where I can.

Hi'all !
I'm quite interested in the WM6.1 Rom, but I own a German TMo MDA Mail with a German keyboard layout...I wouldn't mind using the English ROM, just wanna know how to tweak it to the German layout...any idea?
Cheers,
vivid
Nobody? if its just sth in the registry, would somebody mind explaining it to me^^
WM6.1 running on german XDA cosmo
Hey,
I've got a german XDA cosmo (= Excalibur), running with the Kavana 080408 WM6.1-ROM.
I am using eT9 (link as found in Kavanas thread: http://movie.99msn.net/kavana/eT9 Full.cab) with the attached keyboard layout (copy to Program Files/eT9).
It's working fine. The only problem, is that the zero key doesn't work in numeric mode. But you can switch to alphabetical mode and type the zero there. I'm also not able to type a TAB, but who needs ;-) Probably it's not hard to fix, the kmap-file structure is very simple.
Good luck ..
... and to minimize the cultural shock you can set your locale to german in "settings" -> "regional settings". This affects time / number -format and currency. Feels a lot more like at home afterwards ;-)
The automatic "Connections Setup" in "Start Menu" -> "Accesoires" does also know the german operators. It has set up cellular data connections for me (works fine), but I haven't tested the MMS setup yet.
Cheers mate! So I just copy the eT9-cab with the kmap into the directory u have given there?
You install the cab, like you do with any other program (copy to the phone, and start it through the phone's file manager).
It installs to the directory I mentioned (the installer creates it). Afterwards you can copy the kmap-file there (overwrite the old). I'm quite sure it just worked afterwards, since I can't remember modifying the registry But you will probably need to reset the Telefon
I've got the keymapping from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2121806&highlight=german+kmap#post2121806
You can also do a search for "german" and "kmap" or "eT9" and "kmap "in the kavana thread.
Maybe you'll have to activate eT9 through Fn + Space in a text field.
Thx Probably was juz too lazy to scan 1700 posts in that thread... But thanks anyways! Another question concerning the 6.1 ROM: I wanted to update to rickywatt's edited ROM, but seem to get an error 270 anytime i try...any idea?
You're too lazy again .. the "search this thread" button does magic
Seems, that others had the problem, too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2154892&postcount=181
So you should make sure to have unlocked first .. (if so, I have no idea)
Haven't tried Ricky's ROM yet, maybe when the wheather gets worse
I'm afraid the ROM is full of blingbling, but slow as hell with little space .. Ricky's feature list scared me so maybe you could report, how you like it to clear my doubts
Well yea it is completely unlocked I am afraid...thats what i saw before already...
I actually dun have time in the moment myself, lots of exams going on but I always take myself time for my lil' excalibur
Does CAP key works with your kmap?
Well no..^^ it did for Kavana's ROM; but somehow for ricky's it doesnt. Quite odd actually.
Oh, and @fruchti, i got rick's OS working...if u overclock the OMAP you gonna be fine. Just disable all the panels u dun need: for me that was myfaves, internet etc...

I was able to solve this issue for Ricky's build. I installed eT9Full.cab, restarted the device and selected German using Fn+Space.
Now it finds "für" "über" and so on. CAP works, too.
Please keep in mind that you have to reboot the device after installing cab. Without rebooting - german settings will not work.
Hope this solve your issue, too.
Really? Thats odd...i installed the et9full also...and the overwrote the old kmap with the edited one...i have the right keymap but CAP still does not work and he only finds "fur" and "uber" as an example, although the xT9 German is activated...
Maybe i should just re-install that completely...mh...
EDIT: Did u insert the new kmap as well?
Ohhh alright, no need for the kmap..thats the thing that seems to cause all the interferences But nice that it works now
After I restart my phone, the CAP error is on again and I have no idea why...the keyboard works apart from the bespoken CAP issue...it also doesnt find "uber" and so on anymore...that really sucks...
German T9 not integrated in Ricky's WM61 build

I confirm. Trouble comes back after rebooting the device. It's some kind of funny that german T9 is not inside this rom. Maybe the german guys don't cried loud enough in the past ;-).
Please link this to Ricky's ROM thread. Ricky is a freak and will be able to fix this with V2x. I'm sure.

Yea well that should be cuz the ROM by Kavana isnt actually a WWE yet, and probably only a leaked one from somewhere So either we just wait and see till the official WM6.1 WWE comes out, or Ricky finds a fix for us...so far, we have 3 guys with the problem : RICKY PLEASE HELP US
Me too. The CAP key isn't working so I have to write only with small letters...
Wish a solution for this problem will be available soon. Writing a message without caps are classified as "unfriendly" for a lot of people in Germany.
i'm too
need it for some passwords and business mails
PLEASE fix it
I can't find anyone that has posted one yet, but I have made one for all you that have one and have the screwed alt key! The registry file is attached! It is not a hack at all. Just a registry export that worked!
Enjoy
edit//Cab added to post.
edit2//Also, just an FYI for everyone, the TMO keyboard has the GBP and Euro symbols on the hardware keyboard, it just wasn't put on the key itself. It is the same keys as the HTC version for them. alt+e = euro and alt+r = pound symbol.
edit3//Make sure HLKM\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime\KeyboardLayouFiles shows et9.rhodium.wwe.txt. Otherwise, the layout will still be messed up.
I think this should get stickied for a few weeks
If necessary. I am sure it will stay alive for a bit since a lot of us have the TMO version.
To be fair though, you get some of the credit. Your suggestion in that other thread is what made me do it. It took me about 1 hour of poking around.
Can any onecab this up for easy install? That would rock, changing values to match though reg editor does not work!
Just use Task Manager to import it. It worked for me.

Thanks but you are the one who did it.
Thanks! I have never used/done that type of stuff. I am just happy to be able to contribute finally.
Wow, I posted about this problem today and now their is a fix to it. You guys work fast and I didn't even get a chance to get use to the ctrl key that sub for the alt key.
Good looks!!!
EDIT: Confirming that it works! ....don't forget to reset because it won't work if you don't.
so what exactly is the problem with the tmobile us alt key anyway? i just got my tp2 yesterday and haven't really noticed a problem with it?
This is only an issue for people with cooked roms.

Well my Rom is stock but I'll be sure to remember this if I flash a new one.
This fixes the alt key, for sure. But what about the shortcuts on the arrows? Those are still incorrect, for me. Is this a separate problem? I assumed it should be related, due to the fact that the shortcuts on the unlocked devices are different than the T-Mobile shortcuts.

what exactly does this fix ?
my ctrl button doesn't function at all but I thought it's due to the PDAC hebrew support I have.
also FN+SYM doesn't ddo anything.
my TP2 is unbranded.

As noted by the thread title, this ONLY applies to the TMO (T-Mobile) US branded TP2. It applies to NO other branded or unbranded TP2 devices. It fixes the keyboard layout changes that were implemented on the TMOUS TP2. The Alt, ctrl, and a few other keys had some changes.
To fix your keyboard, flash back to the original rom, export the same reg key that is in the first post, and then apply that to the newly flashed rom.
I've recently upgraded to the standard Vodafone 6.5 rom, and so far I'm rather happy with it...
Found SBP Pocket Plus doesn't work well, but as all I was after was the ability to edit file extensions now use Total Commander/Resco File Explorer.
What I would love to be able to do is alter the short-cut links on the lower scrolling links bar... any ideas?
But, in general, I'm not rushing to change many things as I'm finding it rather good as is.
What are other's thoughts - and ideas on additions to improve it?

The list 'previous version' too, so I guess you can go back...
Been using it for quite some time. Its a good rom. A couple of minor bugs here and there. One that a couple of people have observed is every now and then a new txt will arrive and the device will act like it will never stop vibrating. The last time it happened to me, it actually stopped after a couple of minutes (I wanted to see how long it would take).
As for editing the scrolling links at the bottom...do you mean adding new tabs to TF3D? It is simple to remove them, but adding new ones I'm not so sure about...
Jason
Yep, I did meant TF3D Tabs - I know how to remove from the list, but was hoping there was a reg edit or two to replace/add new ones...
Keep hoping someone will come up with a solution...
