WM2005 sucks?

Looks like wm2005 still not very stable, a lot of programs still not working.
For example, Xbackup, set as ringtone or Monster Chinese, etc.
well alot of programs required new versions when 2003SE came out as well

Using it on my Imate for a month or more and no problem so far and no lock-ups like there were on WM2003SE
I think the title of this thread is misleading... :?
The fact that it does not run several applications or crashes is because:
1.- This version is not final
2.- It's not compatible because of it's very nature, IT'S A NEW OS!!!
The same happened when we upgraded our PCs to Windows XP don't you remember?
New versions will start to come up eventually, and even if you don't see any advances "right-out-of-the-box" it's because the main improvements on this OS reside behind the scenes, so Programmers will start to develop new and exciting apps that take advantage of the new features and APIs.
For me Windows Mobile 5.0 has been very stable even with the very first version that Buzz, Toe and the gang which had very limited memory resources I had no stability problems whatsoever.
There are limitations of course, (like no MMS, mediocre video camera, sms problems, etc) but eventually Microsoft OR our very own developers will take care of that!
So, BE PATIENT!!!!!
Hi,
Using it for 3 days in my Qtek 2020 and no problem at all.
Even Jabra250 works fine, when in 2003SE was difficult to setup.
About software that don't work, we must wait until new versions come out...
I'm sure when you update you computer from NT to W2K you has software that didn't work and had to buy new versions, so why should be different here?
Be patient.... Mobile5 is ok for now.

i double that
Rayan & all the rest are right!!!
I can't agree less to what Rayan wrote.
It's a new OS and a beta for that matter (check out Goras thread on "WM2005 that I can share"), If I'm not mistaken it's not also intended for Himalaya, judging on the memory problems just solved(!) by Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, mamaich & all the other contributors as well.
Personally in my opinion its a lot 'solid' than the WM2003 & SE since it has to crash yet on my xda II, as mentioned by Rayan even the initial release of the OS with limited memory was stable.
The problems with the apps like backup & camera are being solved one-by-one, MMS which doesn't even start before is now working (check out the threads on WM2005 in the forum).
Even now, the benefits of using the OS in terms of performance, stability & looks far outweighs its limitations (in my humble opinion) just be patient & leave it to the WIZARDS (Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, etc. etc. etc).
Besides, hey ttseng this is the xda-developers forum & we all are having fun testing, tweaking, & breathing new life to our "soon to be outlawed" XDA II ....... if not for the WIZARDS in the forum !!!!! Notice the request for the OS on the other xda models, aren't we lucky we have the WiZARDS working on the HIMA?
Cheers!
works flawlessly on XDA2 Himalaya!!!!!!!!
best os and most stable one ive come across ,wm200se never really happy but this WM2005 is and has been stable without a single hard reset or rest since install.even self configured the o2email and hotmail!! took the o2 uk config & connections setup file from a XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom.
Is there more than one version of WM2005 kicking about?
I successfully installed WM2005 on my XDA II, but I couldn't get many 3rd party apps to install on it. So I was surprised to see screenshots with certain utilities running ok.
I was wondering if there is more than one version of it floating about on the net. The one I installed was found on these forums, but I have recently downloaded another off usenet.
They are both himalaya.
I am sure a non-beta copy will rear its head on here sooner rather than later (I hope!)
Cam
this version is in the ftp section ,the rom has a file name of
wm2k5_XDA2_HIMALAYA_O2_fullRAM.rar
Yep!
That's the one!
That would make both copies I have the same.
Is this a late BETA or even an RTM version?
Now that the OS has been officially released I am guessing it's a race for someone to post the released version ;-)
the official full version is released?
wow!
so when can we have it for download here?
i am planning to put off my upgrade till the full version comes out.
currently i am on the win2003se which i aint very happy with!
plz advise...
thanx everybody.
It out but you cant get it.
I have a friend who is a manger in Microsoft. I sent the MS link of the offical release and asked if it can be obtained from the internal web software store. At the moment it cant and I feel it will also never be the case (2003 the end user could never buy).
So we are back to the carriers and if they will ship 2005 as an upgrade for ood devices or only on new (MDA XDA IV).
Dont think one needs to be a rocket scintist to answer that, was not one of the devices never shipped with 2003, the way I remember it it was buz that did a Chines to English translation.
So at least w on the BA side have to wait untill something gets leaked.
A little help with WM2005 upgrade please!!!!!!!
I see that most people have upgraded to WM2005 without much trouble, but not me!! I am with o2 and I've just upgraded and I can't us GPRS (it keeps trying to dial 193.113.200.195 and then drops the conx even though the IP is entered in the APN section) I can't run Worldmate pro (not compatable), TOMTOM 3 (need to upgrade to ver 4.4) pick up email etc etc.
Could I have the details that you need to enter into your XDA to connect to o2 network via GPRS so that I can access hotmail, messenger, MMS, Internet etc etc
I hope you can help as I don't want to downgrade to the old windows version.
i can send u a O2 customisation cab file if u need ,however your phone must b on contract with O2UK not payg or orange etc..
Yes Please!!
That'll be great. yes I am with O2 contract.......
where is the awesome rom !!! please
iam running w2005 in my XD2..but still MANY applications cant be installed..and i was surprised to see the screenshot (above) with many applications runing ..BUT i couldnt find the ROM...i found only the one for XDA2s..."XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom" actually is a zipped file with no rom inside..just many cab files ..can anyone help me please...thanks guys

Was just about to post this myself
I think the crux of the matter will be, will it cost HTC anythin to supply a WM6 rom for existing devices? It will cost a bit in development, but would they have to pay MS for licensing?
I'm sure the answer is yes - so they wont do it.
Call me a pessimist if you like . . . Im relying on a clever rom cooker out there!

Did anybody notice that only htc vox from three new handsets (forth one has been removed from htc site) presented at 3GSM has wm6 preinstalled. I think that htc will do an upgrade of some handsets with wm5. Let's hope I'm right!
cheers
HTC released upgrades for exisiting devices from PocketPC 2003 to WM5 and is busy on other devices for update to WM6, also from WM5 to WM6 'so it could be possible that the TYN gets one from WM5 to WM6.
*fingers crossed*

as far as i know htc never released any OS upgrades... and i've had htc devices since the XDA 1.
Why are we all excited for WM6? They can't even get WM5 right on this device!
I dont see any reason to wait for WM6. With WM5 works solid, and i dont see any changes from WM5 to WM6!! Changes of OS from one year, are not enough from Microsoft.

Well for one, the email client is supposed to be better, also PIE has some updates, but the biggest thing for me is that I spend hours a day behind a remote desktop session from my TyTN, and the client in WM6 is so much better from what I have read, clipboard support..no more transferrin docs to retrieve text....also its supposed to have sound support also...I run streaming media services, and being able to preview audio before I encode it etc..that would be incredibly helpful. And also when you don't rewrite an OS completely you build upon it, work out bugs, and add improvements, plus I guess if you only talk on your device...its not gonna be much different.
I tend to see some people sayin the same thing about the PC OS's, its like they expect a whole new experience with each OS.
When you completely redo the OS everytime you only tick off software designers, There are improvements there, just take the time to look.
i agree, heavy users of their devices will have huge amounts of program data running at one time, (i do) and sometimes it lags, other times it fails to load new programs. I read that the memory paging was better in WM6 than it is in WM5 so lets hope so!
Here's sort of a kick in the pants. Check out what the article says about HTC and WM6. Hmm...http://www.pocketpcmag.com/mobile/webguide.asp

Windows Mobile 6 and programs

Since 2 days I've got a hermes and read a lot in this mobile 6 forum. I installed several ROM but still have some questions.
I there a default windows mobile 6 rom, so not a customized one? I there a default site for downloading messenger live and office 2007? I looked at the microsoft site but couldn't find it.
Already searched the forum but couldn't get a answer.

Yes there is, but first; you got your hermes for about 2 days and you're allready flashing it? hmm..ok..but just be carefull, dont wanna see you opening a thread with "I ****ed-up my hermes." Its good you read alot, try WIKI if you dont understand some things.
ok..this link is a (pre-released, I would say, leaked version of) HTC Windows Mobile 6 ROM and as far is I know, Its not customized. And I think it includes office 2007 and if you want Windows live messenger, try this link.
good luck
thanks for you reply, I know how to flash my hermes, did it already 7 times now I'm also having some experience with my Imate Jam, which i've got now for over 3 years.

Just a head's up... the link you posted is for an old version of WL4WM (10.6.0026.1400) which has some minor random issues of locking up the Hermes if you use the Live Services on your today screen via WiFi. The current version is 10.6.0028.2700, which resolves those issues and a few others. Many of the current Rom cooks are using this new version and may be able to post it here for you. (Add-on packages for BLACK include the old 10.6.0026.1400 version of WL4WM)
I found this site and started flashing WM6 on my Hermes less than a week from purchasing it, with no prior knowledge of flashing. Was a little scary but boy was it slow with WM5 on there.
Sorry but need to go off-topic
Duttythroy you use Windows X-Bow WM6 Black Majik TOUCHFLO STYLE hmm..is it touch or button flo..if it is button flo, its useless. I really want touchflo
Here's your answer for Mobile Office 2007.
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6431.html
I also remember seeing this on Microsofts website at some point and it will be offered as a free upgrade to mobile users.

official wm6 includes office 2007?

I dont see any reference to it in the pdf that describes it.
anyone know?
/f
Please read the Wiki. Official WM6 ROM release doesn't come with Office2007. There maybe hope in the Europe WWE release, but doubtful.
Microsoft is planning to offically release Office2007 this fall sometime as a free upgrade to WM6 users, so I've read. If this has changed, then correct me.
Sounds reasonable - they have to use the Windows Update Util for something after all
Smiffy.
thank you
sorry, I should have tried to read the wiki first

If you open docx and xlsx, the answer is Yes. Probably you ROm was filled with the Office Mobile 2007 appz.
Well it is standard Official DOPOD WM 6 ROM. The only thing I have installed is OneNote Mobile... From One Note App on my Lappy.
Many cooked ROMs come with Office2007. Satin does (minus OneNote, which can be installed separately).
I'm pretty impressed with O2K7. PowerPoint is particularly good. It renders presentations very well indeed, including transitions.

I think the wiki needs to be updated then. The dopod rom (and my flavor of it) have Office 2007 apps.
Lordsmiff!
Thanx...
Have you got any comments on the ROM ?? maybe some screenshots ?? vbmenu_register("postmenu_1409703", true);
I don't know if I'm gonna flash it yet - been a serial flasher but I'm happy at the mo with black satin
I'll probably give it a run tomorrow
Smiffy.
Here is the CAB I used for my Onenote...
I was under the impression that no released version of Office 2007 Mobile has the ability to open .%%%x documents yet, and that this would be available as a downloadable update in the fall.. I read that on Jason Landridge's blog.
The version of Office 2007 Mobile that comes in the Treo 750 WM6 ROM definitely cannot open .docx, xlsx, etc.
My DOPOD ROM I looked in the WORD Mobile Settings and I see that the default template is set to .docx so I guess it does open *.%%%X files, plus I have tryed to open docx and xlsx files and no problem
Official HTC wm6 also includes Office 2007, minus outlook :-(
So you get: Powerpoint, Word and Excel.
Outlook is the old one and OneNote can be installed from pc if you have Onenote on it.
one note mobile cab in english
does any1 have the onenote mobile cab in english?

To my understanding all of wm 6.1 rom posted here are all official roms, they´re just not released by htc, but by our great cookers.
So choose one that suits your needs.
Cheers.
.... and most of the times these roms are ported from other devices!
which leads to the main question of them roms: are they really FULLY compatible?
- why are there various probs. like memory leakage, apss not running?
- what about the battery drain? -due to constant polling based on ported / incompatible??? radio roms from other devices.
search, and you will find a number of issues on cooked roms....
...you say this is not true?- use the orig. htc wm6 rom, and you will see the diffrence
...you say them issues dont bother you? - enjoy the rest of the rom then!
everyone to their liking!

Don't think you'll find one - your best bet will be to try Bepe's Kitchen for Artemis, which incorporates WM6.1 ported from Kaiser.
This what I was thinking for...no WM6.1 for artemis.
the one on the HTC web site is WM6.0, I initially used that. They haven't posted 6.1 yet.
But I agree on the battery drain issue, since i'm using a cooked WM6.1 ROM, my battery drains faste
r, noticeably so. but i'm happy because my Artemis is so f-ing cool now. Beats the hell out of the iPhone!
