My Orbit is dead - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Can anyone help me please.
I've never had a single problem with my orbit until today when it suddenly died. I needed to swap it's sim card to another handset, so I pressed the power key until the shutdown warning, tapped yes then removed the battery and sim card. Then I replaced the battery and cover, minus the sim, but now my Orbit wont power on. Its completely dead, no LEDs lit or screen, placing it in the charge cradle does nothing either.
Can anyone please help me with this. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

where are u?

i had this problem once and it was really strange, i had to shake the battery a little and tap it a few times when i placed it back into the phone, never really figured out why it did it, but i sold the phone to my mate and he says he has never had this problem with it?? strange!

oops double post!

Try cleaning the battery contacts and the ones on the device.

Battery removal causes loss of all data

When I take the battery off the back of my pda2k (eg to change sim card) all data / programs are lost. The indicator says the backup battery is fully changed but this doesn't seem to be right, Does anyone know what I can do ? I'm not averse to a bit of tinkering (or should I send it back for repair - I think it might still be under warranty - inhetired from work, so not sure)
Thanks
Rob
ps is the pinout the same for these as xda on the connector at the base of the case ?
Did you flick the lock switch back to closed whilst the battery was out? My XDA2s is fine - last for several mins with the main battery out.
R
sorry but I don't know what the lock switch ls. can I plug a usb charger in whilst the battery is off ?
thanks,
Rob
To take the battery off the XDA2s you have to first slide down a little lock switch at the bottom (on the back) and this releases the battery. I have not tested with the 2s but with the 2 if you slid the little lock back without the battery in - flash - bye bye data and hard reset!
Hope that helps - Rich
tried that - looks like the catch is damaged. Just lost all data again. Anyone know if I can leave a charge cable in with the battery off?
Try again, just be very carefull that the battery plastic do not touch the connectors. Someone else in here had the same problem, but it was because the plastic short sircuted the connectors.
So try again, just lift the batteri carefully off so you dont short sircute the connectors
same thing happened to me before.
and i was even soooo careful removing the batt. was so confident since i know there's an internal batt to hold the data, but still had a hard reset..
Do you mean short circuit ? How can a plastic battery cae short circuit something ? Could you explain what is being short circuited exactly ?
Thanks

It was the Pins that connect to the battery that caused the Hard Reset, when short circuited.
I also found it strange that the plastic cover on the battery where to be conductive, but i can give you no more feedback on it than this.
It's not a problem on my device, and I dont intend to try and short circuite mine.
i had this happen to me before, and i left the device turned on when i took the baqttery out, now everytime i do it, i swtich it off(just press power button) and then it seems to work fine? dunno about flocking he lock switch, ill try it now for fun
jus took the battey out with the ophone powerd on, and on standby and no data loss, also flicked the battery lock swith and still no data loss?
That was brave! Think I'll just leave my battery on for now - won't be changing simcards for a while hopefully. Only reason to take off the battery now is to satisfy my curiosity ...

I have exactly the same issue. I now leave the charger connected while the battery is out, no data loss.
I think there is an issue with the tracks under the switch not making proper contact, so the backup battery is never actually connected up.
My Qtek 2020 does the same thing, but when I leave the power plugged in all is well.

PLEASEEEEEEE HELP T-MOBILE MDA III (QTEK 9090)

Hi Guys,
I put my T-Mobile MDA III (same as qtek 9090) on a cradle and after 10 minutes the screen turned off and the red light appeared on a top right corner. Now the device couldn't be turned on again. It looks like a completely dead device. Could you please help me what to do?
Is that a software failure or some other problem?
Please please please give me a hint. Is there any schematics that will help me in repairing the device? What is a cause for that failure?
Thanks in advance,
...MpegTv....
try to hard reset by pressing power and soft reset button
I've tried with hard reset and also with placing the device into bootloader menu with camera+record+power+reset and still nothing happened.
It is completely dead !!!
we have had this problem a few times with our blue angels at work, bad connection with the cradle seems to suck your batterie dead, we swapped batteries and pda works again everytime, This is the problem we get monthly that leads to dead looking pda's, exept that a batterie swap allways works,
ps
the batterie we swap with works too its just been drained.
Hi guys,
I discovered the cause. Something's wrong with my battery. After few minutes on a cradle the device turned ON and then reported BackUp battery VERY LOW, please recharge or replace.
What is a backup battery? Is that a main battery foor some other battery inside of device? How can I replace that backup battery.
When the device is on a cradle the backup battery is on 25% and the main battery is 0%.
What do i have to do beside charging?
Regards,

Help needed, dead BA

Well, as always XDA developers is what you use when noone else helps you, my freaking BA is acting strange:
1. The phone doesnt turn on when the battery is in. Tried charging the battery 100% and switching it on but it just doesnt turn on.
2. Now when I place the BA in the cradle, the phone turns on but it just keeps on restarting.
Somebody please help me out.
The phone worked fine until when I tried to tape the body and the battery with cello tape, that is when it went dead, and now I have the two problems mentioned above.
Help me guys,
Thanks a ton all.
try a new battery.
and check the battery lock..

You might have messed up the pins connecting the battery to the device. Also, the little lock for the battery could be damaged as well. Finally, your backup battery could have died also. Hopefully this will give you some guidance towards the root of the problem. Chef has a disassembly guide in his tutorial.
well thanks guys for those responses. My updates are:
1. Since the battery was over 3 years old, I have ordered a new battery (yeah i know i should've checked with another battery first but damn noone else i know uses this phone). So till my new battery arrives I just got to wait.
2. Regarding ezthunder's replies... well I checked the battery connectors on the phone, they seem to look alright to me (physically), how do i test them to check if they're alright, pls help.
Also, regarding the backup battery, damn i would now need to search the net to find a new one.
The battery locking clip seems to be fine and is locks the battery in place, if this is damaged, I'd be freaking damned to try and get this one fixed.
So guys, any DIY suggestions to get these things fixed would be welcome as I dont wanna brick my BA, freaking just put in a new LCD digitizer.

Let us know what happens when the new battery arrives and we'll go from there.
well my battery arrived yesterday, i put it in and tried to switch it on but alas nothing. Charged the battery full and put it in but no start up.
Just the same old problem, phone keeps restarting when in the cradle but nothing when out.
Help me guys............
Well still no response from the forum, however, I have a few updates and hope this could make it easier for someone to figure out the problem:
A strange thing happened yesterday -
1. when I disconnected the flex cable of the buttons and the keypad on the front panel from the main board and put the entire thing on the charging cradle. IT WORKED. I mean it didnt do the restarting problem, it worked perfect. However when I took it out of the cradle, it wont power on. While it was on on the cradle, i checked the internal battery and it showed 100% charge, which means that the internal battery is good.
2. Now back when I connected the flex cable to the connector on the board and power it on - nothing happens and when put in the cradle - the same restarting issue right after the statup screen.
So based on the above - what are your conclusions, is there a problem with the flex cable connector but then in that case it should start when taken out of the cradle.
And yes, its a new battery that I just got. So guess its not a problem with the battery...
Help me guys. I really want to get back my BA... it was such a pleasure to see it working in the cradle with mentioned in point 1 above.
PS. I left it on the charge for the whole night yesterday but no change when taken out of the cradle - just desperate to try anything to get it to work.

Judging from this, it seems that there is a problem with the motherboard itself. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me. You can probably get a new BA from Market Place. I have seen a few members selling them lately.
*bump* still waiting for some good soul to help me out with the prob... i really dont wanna lose this phone...blue angels are real beautiful babies to have around...

[Q] Defy randomly dying

My defy is barely 2 months old, i am running CM7.1 since it was released and its quite smooth with no problems till now.
But recently i went to a remote place (i made another post somewhere) and switched SIM cards, i switched back SIM again now. Since then, my defy randomly dies sometimes while holding it and most times while in my pocket. My battery percent looks fine (i wiped it just in case).
This happened to me several times, i suspected the battery was loose, so at the beginning i reinserted my battery 2-3 times and it would start again. But now even after reinserting the battery it refuses to turn on, i usually need to connect it to a charger (or USB) and after the LED light turns on, i can switch it back on, disconnect it and use it again.. until it dies again randomly.
I tried inserting a piece of paper as padding to prevent the battery from moving, but didnt help much. When i shake it a bit, it dies too, so it might be a loose battery or some hardware problem, but the reason im baffled is why i cant turn it on again without connecting it to a charger, and also why it dies randomly when i leave it alone and didnt even touch it. Also, i never dropped it even once or mishandle it at all to make the battery be loose, when i insert tha battery, it still snaps/click into place just like when it was new.
ANy help suggestions will be appreciated. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to provide a detailed account.
I found an almost similar problem but no answer here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109429
Firstly, check if your setVsel settings is all ok and not too low down specially the voltages settings. If you're not using SetVsel, then check your 2nd-ini in system - overclock settings, see if it enable and check those individual settings which might be too low that caused the phone under power/voltage and triggered self shut down.
Another option to narrow down your issue is trying another battery. Buy or borrow from a friend. If the case of random shut down still occur, then it might be hardware issue in your Defy mainboard. BUT.. I would flash it to another rom to make 100% sure before sending it back to the shop.
Thanks a lot for the reply, im not sure if its an overclock or vsel issue because it even dies sometime while booting up if i move it around, so im guessing battery or mainboard issue?? Ill have to check with another battery first then... hoping its not a mainboard issue coz the nearest service centre is miles away from where i live

A5 2017 battery replacement

Hi guys,
hope you can help me with the following.
I recently got an A5 2017 which wasn't used for 2 years.
Obviously the battery was dead, which was confirmed using a voltmeter.
I ordered a new one, tested it with the voltmeter and installed it in the phone.
When I plugged it to charge, after a few seconds I can see the charging animation showing up, it's at almost 85% now.
But I tried and cannot start the phone.
I tried many keys combinaison with no success, all I can have is the phone's charging animation.
I dismantled the whole phone and none of the liquid sensor seems triggered.
I removed both SIM trays and SD card as well, no luck.
Only while plugged in to a socket turns on the screen with charging percentage.
I tried to connect the phone to USB to my laptop and it doesn't do anything.
Any suggestion here?
Thanks

Whilst unplugged, press and hold the power button for literally a minute. Release. Wait 10 seconds. Press and hold power until turns on.
It may work.
It may not
Worth a try
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it switched on, I don't know why nor how.
I put the back cover in place (the one above the battery, not the one of the phone itself) which in my opinion links the power button to the motherboard itself (but I may be wrong) and it switched on after just a few seconds pressing the power button alone.
Hope this helps someone else, anyway thanks a lot for your reply which is much appreciated.
