Default registry settings after uninstalling Opera
I had no response on my first post. See my follow-up on default registry settings.

Hi,
Could someone post the registry settings for IE as the default browser? I installed Opera and selected "yes" to make it my default browser. After uninstalling Opera, IE does not work.
I'm looking for these settings. Here's the registry editor I'm using: http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx
Much appreciated!

Is Opera availeble for the htc s620???
Dave,
This thread will likely help.
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=168204
Cheers!
Never mind. I did a hard reset. See zip file for default registry settings and a text file noting Opera browser registry changes if you choose to use Opera as your default browser. Opera does not change the registry settings back when you uninstall the software.
The text file of reg changes came from a post on Opera's forum.

Opera mini as default browser
I love Opera mini as my main browser. Is there any way to make opera mini the default browser when a link is clicked in a email for example.

just do a google search for opera mini.
I cant find it in the menu settings for opera mini. Maybe the option you mentioned was for opera mobile. I was looking for the Java based Opera Mini version as this version translates the web pages into smaller packages to reduce the size of pages and also make browsing faster. Which brings me to another question. Is there a way to launch Java Programs instantly without always going through the Java Midlet application?

Yup, because I have just created that thead (the Smartphone General forum is brand new)
In the General forum, I've posted the original version some 5-6 months ago.
I enjoyed using Opera Mini for some pages that render bad with PIE. However, recently, I have been unable to load any pages with the T-Zones proxy. Anyone experiencing the same problems?

Yeah, a must have on your device, the cursor reminds me of Microsoft's Deepfish and sphere!
I never got to try deepfish, when I got the link it wasn't working, but this is nice. Although I was on myspace trying to respond to a message and it just kind of stopped responding..but besides that it's great
Here is a link for anyone that cares to check it out:
http://www.operamini.com/
Personally speaking, Opera mini plays better than Deepfish. For example, I have never logged in this forum when I used Deepfish. On the other hand, Opera mini doen't have this problem.
Deepfish was 'alpha' -- Opera Mini is release -- not much room for comparison... Deepfish was great, in that you could view the whole page and zoom in on a particular area, I just installed Opera Mini 4, but it doesn't do that -- at least I can't find a setting to make it do that, just shows the page regular size...

But i like the Opera Mini more... (faster, smarter, feeds support with remote sync etc) this version is with bigger Font Size so it's running ok on a 800x400 screen.
So the Opera browser that comes preinstalled on the HD isn't Opera Mini? It's not Opera Mobile, right? I thought the HD utilizes a full HTML browser...

the opera 9.5 that comes with the hd is opera mobile, a standalone executable program, which is a full html browser. opera mini is a java applet that runs within a java environment, and used to have limitations. maybe newer versions of opera mini have more functionality??

Cool, works well thanks.
Very fast at loading pages, with nice sliding transitions. The rendering's less accurate compared to 'big' Opera though.
Pros / Cons
I use both the browsers, in my view Opera Mini is far superior though, but with faults. Opera Mobile which comes on the HD is good when it works and you have a fast connection (WiFI or strong HSdPA). I believe Opera Mini uses pre rendered pages from Opera so is very fast, yes the transitions are nice. It has speed-links like Opera on your PC and can handle pretty much all pages I've ever tried to load. Opera mobile sometimes messes up pages with forms, for example, using tfl.gov.uk is so fast on opera mini, nearly impossible on opera mobile. File downloads are fine in Opera Mini as it can access the file directories on the HD, the download manager is maybe not as good as on Opera Mobile though, stop-resume etc..
Opera mini doesn't have tabs though.. one page only, a couple of times it can hang, you need to mess around with it so it doesn't ask each time if it is allowed to access the data connection, leave it running in the background and it can struggle to find connection again without restarting Opera Mini. Also you have to load it through JAVA (from a list of other Java programs you might have on your HD, GMAIL etc..) unless anyone knows how to give it it's own direct shortcut?? Also it's not integrated with TF3D like opera mobile.
I use 4.2 direct from Opera, fine but yes the menus are small, but still quite easy to press. Sounds like there is a WVGA version now. Perhaps in the next version (4.3?) this will be the ultimate browser.
I'll carry on with both for now

re versions :the text size is now spot on. accept no immitations, this is the real internet in your pocket and no mistake. lovely and fast too, loads the times homepage in about 8 seconds compared to opere mobile's 30 seconds.
well handy. it has to be said.
"The other day Java made a version of JavaFX available for download for Windows Mobile Phone devices. JavaFX is intended to bring more rich media content to phones and since JavaFX can be cross platform (PC, Mac, BlackBerry…everything except the iPhone since Apple may never approve of it) developers can make applications one time and they can run on these platforms natively. Windows is the first mobile platform to have a release of JavaFX. The package contains 4 demos. A Twitter client, a simple calculator, a photo viewer and a little application where your finger makes a ripple and the fish follows it.
So for the first time developer’s can start to work on developing JavaFX applications and have a real mobile testing platform. Of course you can run any other Java app through this as well (I tested it with Google Maps java and it ran fine). The download and additional release notes are located here."

Hmm, I don't know. JavaFX is much, much, much slower with Opera Mini on my Touch Pro than jbed. The font seems a little nicer, though. I think it uses antialiasing.
Interesting app.
Worked fine but....
Could not install file from memory, only by internet, that worked.
Installed Gmail as test. Continuallyl, said there was no internet connection with Wifi and Active sync.
After fiddling with it. I decided to remove JavaFx. After that many strange things happened.
Had to hard reset. :-(

I have removed JavaFX, too, but everything went fine, no hard reset needed. WM6.1, too.
It works on a Touch HD. But for some reason, its slow. Esp. the fish app.
How is the Twitter App? Just asking as I tend to shy away from java apps on my device because I never really had much success with them running properly.
I'm now running Opera Mini in JavaFX rather than JBED. I like it better.
Does anyone know the correct syntax to make a shortcut to automatically run Opera Mini (rather than start JavaFX and choose Opera Mini from the list)?
With JBED it was "\windows\jbed.exe" -run s0_

The "from storage" option doesn't seem to work, but it's easy enough to just install java apps in the usual manner, as JavaFX makes itself the default JVM. Click on the JAD file in a web browser and it'll install fine.
sun java network problem
so I cooked the sun java package on my tp2.. installed opera mini... but I can't get the network. if you are running opera mini, maybe you have some provisioning files that are nessesary to connect to the internet?? OM just says that there is no network connection.

I see that you still don't know how to run this emulator from a shortcut and run in it any midlet.
But maybe someone haven't posted it yet but knows it. I hope someone will write what is the missing parameter
Wondering if anyone has been able to install and successfully operate opera mini. This is one of my favorite browsers. When I installed the cab file it didnt load. I then went to the site and tried to download it and it would not open. If anyone has been able to do this or if you are able to find a solution I would be very grateful if you posted a working cab of the browser here in this thread. Thanks in advance!
Yes. it's my browser of choice, although the Jblend java manager sucks. hold on while i find the cab for you
*edit*
download the Opera Mini - large fonts (VGA) cab and put on your phone. You don't need the opera mini tweaks.
This will install Jbed java manager & install Opera Mini for you.

Thanks for the quick response. I went to the link and attempted downloading the cab. The cab file says its 2.90mb but for some reason my tp2 is only dling 1.37mb. So the cab is not working. Anyway you can post the cab file here so I can download it direct? I need another source cause that site isnt cooperating with my phone.

I just gave 9.7 beta a try and to be honest I didn' notice a speed boost over the Opera browser that already comes packaged with the tp2. Even with turbo on i noticed nothing. Also its a very glitchy beta version. I miss mini :-( I will probably try the 9.7 once its finished but I still believe mini is the fastest.

Just wanted to thank you again for posting the cab. I was finally able to download it using internet exploer and its working great. Just my 2 cents, 3g plus opera mini equals fastest mobile internet experience ever only to be rivaled by wifi which is not so mobile.
You're welcome. I hear ya buddy, I like Opera Mini more than any of the other mobile browsers except Safari. I still use it even though I have full 3G & could Opera Mobile, but Mobile just sucks, right along with IE.

What are the trade-offs between using Jblend vs. Jbed?
It's been a while since I've used Jbed. I remember it had a background mode, which Jblend still doesn't have. And I'm not crazy about how Jblend throws a wobbly when I change screen orientation.
But, beyond that I don't know how the Jblend version on the TP2 compares with the current Jbed. I haven't found any good comparisons that were less than a year or two old. Even the MIDlet Bible is out of date now.
I don't have a particular attachment to Jblend, but saying it "sucks" isn't a real compelling argument against it. Are there any real performance comparisons you're aware of between Jblend and other JVMs?
I base my statement off the fact that if you open/close the keyboard, the whole thing crashes/resets/whatever... That right there was the deal breaker.

I use mini instead of 9.7b w/ turbo.
Why:
Mini is an order of magnitude faster in real life.
9.7b is still buggy as hell, often crashing.
Scrolling on 9.7b is painfully slow and redraws take a long time compared to Mini Opera.
Granted, one must install the above linked JBED+signed Opera Mini+associated quick link to get anywhere near usable installation of Opera Mini, and even after that one has to tweak the font size.
But once this is done, there's no contenst - at least for me. Mini Opera is waaaay faster than Opera 9.7b with turbo enabled.
Faster is not always better
both mini and mobile are great versions of the browser
what I like more from mobile is that is more complete more similar to a laptop browser, yes mini is faster but I still prefer opera mobile!
I have plenty of free memory and RAM to run it smoothly
And let´s wait to have the final stable release! that would be great!
just my opinion,
Mini is not just a little bit faster, its a lot faster. At least for me it is. Sure Mobile has more of a desktop look and feel and offers a more complete webpage experience. Thing is I dont need all the fancy flash animations and things of that nature when I am just trying to quickly check a website like this forum. I have both mini and mobile in case I have a problem with a certain site and even mobile gave me problems which made me resort to IE just to download a cab file.
I do have one problem though. Anyway to make the images larger on mini? I dled the hi res version as suggested and now all pics and certain buttons are very tiny. I tried settings and changed the image quality but this did nothing for the image size. Any solution?

Yeah, that's definitely a nuisance, but so far it hasn't been a deal breaker for me. I use TouchPal as an on-screen keyboard most of the time, although I wouldn't give up the TP2 keyboard...when I feel the need for it, it's great. I still don't know if I'd label Jblend with "sucks", since I don't know how its performance compares overall, but if I changed orientations a lot when browsing and had to keep re-running Opera Mini, I'd be switching JVMs too!
Opera Mobile 10 for Windows Phone 7
FOR FULL UNLOCK AND ROOT TOOLS UNLOCK
Opera Mobile is a property of Opera Software ASA. Neither Opera Software nor the author of this launcher are responsible for any damage caused by using this app.
Current version of launcher is 1.5
What's new?
Better interface
Root Tools support.
v1.2
Application window gets recreated on the startup if Opera was already opened.
Got rid of WindowTreeUpdater, now using system functions directly.
Font smoothing
Removed some unneeded system calls.
Now timeout is 3 seconds.
Virtual keyboard (SIP) support improved
Rotation support wasn't implemented in this version. Windows Phone 7 API doesn't support it in fully native apps.
Q&A
What is it?
That's Opera Mobile 10 initially built for Windows Mobile. I've just added an extra layer that makes it running.
Why does it only work on fully unlocked ROMs (like Dynamics ROM)? Isn't developer/interop unlock enough to run it? Can it work with Root Tools?
Developer unlock will let you install xap. Interop unlock will let inbuilt interop library work. Full unlock or Root Tools unlock will let Opera native exe run.
Which ROMs should I use?
Almost all custom ROMs (based on either Dynamics or DFT) or stock ROMs compatible with WP7 Root Tools.
What's countdown made for?
Press "Stop" and check.
When I press "Stop", there is a "Delete internal opera folders" button. Why is it here? I can delete this app like any other WP application...
The reason is that Opera launcher goes beyond the standard isolated store. For example, it creates "\Program Files\Opera Mobile 10" folder. Also it adds some absent libraries to \Windows\.
If you delete Opera launcher "like any other WP application", folders beyond the sandbox will still stay there. So, use "Delete internal Opera folders" button wisely
I have problems with starting it up...
If it Opera launcher's window doesn't appear at all, it means you have no Interop Unlock.
If it throws an error with "Check your unlock state" in the end, it means your unlock isn't enough for running native executables/copying files.
Anyway, you shouldn't post about it here. I will ignore such comments.
Opera Mini is discussed here.

Strange because neither Opera itself nor I can control keyboard mode. Probably keyboard behaviour got mixed with other apps.
Interesting fact: if you like to see keyboard built in Opera, set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera10\Keyboard\UseNativeInput to 0
Works flawlessly on my HTC HD7, running NextGen ROM.
Great job!
Is it possible to apply your technique to any WM exe, or did you write a special wrapper specifically designed for Opera?

50/50. Some code parts are universal, some not.
Problem is that more apps we port, more apis we should emulate. Some WM6 apis were deprecated in CE7/WP7. For example, Opera Mini was working almost out of the box - I had to fix not so many things. At the same time Opera Mobile required creating an emulation layer for Connection Manager APIs.

Thank you, ultrashot, Opera Mobile 10 works really, really great (ok, no multitouch and no landscape, but I knew that before and I don't care much about that). I don't know how different porting Opera Mobile is compared to Opera Mini, but I tried both and Opera Mobile works much better for me. When I closed Opera Mini, the whole system was very sluggish until the next reboot, i.e. scrolling through the app list. But I have no problem with Opera Mobile, it works flawless, just like a native WP7 application.

So long term, if the hard work was put in, it would potentially be possible to create a WM6 emulation layer, akin to Wine on Linux? ....
