Hey there people, nice to see flood of very good roms for our BAs around the forum any beyond. However, some of them do have issues, such as SMS notifications (I try to deal with those using Smiley SMS), but very annoying in some issues is also the alarm clock, which sometimes simply fails to work, and that can be very annoying.
Therefore, does anyone can recommend some good alarm clock application which will work reliably on WM 6 (ROM 5.63.11).
Thanks
whats wrong with the wm06 built in alarm clock?
Try pTravelAlarm http://www.burroak.on.ca/pta.html
For me GS Alarm Clock is the best...and it's free
SPB time 2 its OK
I was lookin' 4 a good alarm for about 2weeks and then I've found its really good. you can choose whole mp3. Pocketalarm http://rapidshare.com/files/18010275/PocketAlarm.v2.16.rar.html
Thanks for good suggestions people, I really had a hard time, since for some stupid reason the built in alarm clock was highly unreliable - sometimes it works and sometimes it didn't even though everything was set correctly (which led to me being late for work and a bug in the ROM cannot be used as an excuse ). It could be because of the ROM I am using. I tried all of those you suggested and GS is really neat.
Thanks everyone for a lot of help.

There is absolutely no problem with WM6 Alarm system.
I thoroughly checked it up and noticed following correct behavior:
1. System updates registries as soon as any alrm settings are changed
2. Notification queues are issued for the week replacing any other available for the week.
I am positive that system is working correctly.
What must have gone wrong with some of your devices that you must have taken system backup without clearing alarm settings totally and must have later on after hard reset, restored the backup. This would reinstall old queues as well new when you setup new alarms. You can get away with this issue by clearing all those notification queues still residing in the database.
If this works for you, make sure you always takeback with no alarms settings.
Thanks for the info, however, anytime I did new rom upgrade I did it without doing any backup, which means all settings were manually set after the upgrade - which means no backups to mess up the settings. Oh well, not a big deal anyway, as I said in my previous post that GS Alarm Clock, which I took later works perfectly.
Thanks anyway,
hi everyone!
is there a way to add custom sounds for the wm06 built n alarm clock?
and maybe for the reminders too?
if i move wav files to the windows folder, those file names show up in the sounds drop down menu, but wont play....
anyone?
regards,krz
Are you sure they are the correct wav files?

well... at least, i am sure, that they are WAV files and i can play them back in TCMP!
are there certain specifications, that wav files have to meet in order to be used as an alarm clock sound...? (eg.: max. file size, mono/stero, quality,...) ??
is it confirmed, that this should actually work that way (meaning to copy a wav file into windows folder for alarmclock use) ??
answers appreciated!
regards,krz
EDITED TO SAY: okay, it seems, that size, etc. does matter! i just got one working (redalert.wav)
anyone knows the excact secifications for working wav files...? is it just the size? or maybe the length of the file too?
Sound control
The problem i always had with the BA is the fact that the alarm would not go off if the phone is on silent. Which i keep my phone on most of the time, So when i forget to turn it on at night... I get get to yell "Oh Crap, Look at the time" to my wife.
Is there a program that will make sure the alarm goes off even if the sound is silent,
or is there a program that will change the sound at certian times, like at 6am turn sound on, at 9am turn sound off, then at 6pm turn sound on again?
Thanks
Again,
I must advise SPB Time, I do realise it isn't a free app but it's to my opinion the best, define as much alarms as you want, select mp3's or anything, it puts your volume to maximum if you choose so, or play ascending... and my favorite, upon alarm your comploete screen blanks and you have 2 huge buttons snooze and dismiss which you can't miss even with only 1 eye open... ;-)
The best is PocketAlarm. Try it u wont regret it. Link is on the first page. u can choose mp3 files not only wav.
I have just started using SPB Time... its a great program. You can set up as many alarms as you need, have them go off on certain days of the week. Everything is customizable, the repeats, the time it plays, length of snooze.
When the alarm goes off, there are nice large dismiss and snooze buttons.
nobody is talking about program size and memory usage on device, two criterias, which are very important for such a program....
which one is the smallest and lightest?
interessted,
krz
The cab for SPB Time is approx 4.42mb. Memory usage is not really a problem because the program doesn't need to be running for the alarms to work.
Pocket Alarm can not be used if you lock your phone it seems. Phone first has to be unlocked, which is not the case with e.g. ptravelalarm.
Alarm Clock Lite is free
For PPC and SP
CT Alarmclock is free to, only for SP
SpoonAlarm is free too. For all devices also 240*240 screens

Hi,
I have a small challenge for coders. Nothing complicated I think I was in the situation: walking to the train station running out of time a bit and I want to know what time is it. But pulling out PDA, switching display on a then these actions backwards I get an idea. What about to do a small application that would be running in background(can't be seen in f.e. WkTask... I think you know what I mean) And when I shake the phone it will literally tell me the time. So this is the basic idea. I think It would be also good to add a tab in setting, where you can set the sensitivity(power) of shaking needed. I know it would need some library with these sound, but If you are able able to deliver me the program and how the sound files should be named, I will make my own sound files. So if anyone is able to do this a would do it please email me on [email protected] so we can negotiate on the sound files and other things. Thanks a lot
Vasquez
I seem to recall a program called Vasquez Talk To Me - which was a talking clock program. If memory serves there was a program shortcut that spoke the time out loud (and did nothing else) - so that could be mapped using some other app. to run when the phone is shaken etc.. I'm sure a quick "google" for Vasquez Talk To Me will help you out!
G alarm has a talking clock component that is a separite install, I think ?.... check there website, free to download I think, though obviously u need G alarm, not sure weather this is just talking alarm or clock...?

G-Alarms is only talking the time during an alarm. So it can´t be used for this request.
thanks guys... going to look on it
Here are the alarms and ringtones from Windows Phone 7 from the latest emulator build. They were created by taking Long Zheng's video, extracting the sound and cutting it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzrgGWYYZwU&feature=player_embedded)
Thanks to Anudeep for helping out!
Microsoft need to put many other style (no?). Because it's near to be all same sound!

I would be shocked if they don't. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if none of these are even in the final build. This is a beta emulator. Content like ring tones and alarms are extremely easy to add at the last second and often is so that they can keep it close to the vest.
Yes sure, i know but i was surprised when i heard these ringtones so i underline it
They're all from the same instrument.
I think these are just here for demonstration purposes. MS should know the deep hole the need to climb out of, and how important that each element of their new platform need to be, down to the most insignificant alarm sound.
Two Step is my current ringtone. That one actually isn't too bad

Yeah, upon hearing all of the ring tones, Two Step was the only one that actually sounded different... and good! Wouldn't be surprised if it makes the final cut
i took alarm 12 cut it in half and amplified it to use as my text ringtone
thx,but it sounds all the same.haha
Nice post
lol, it sounded like 4 keys of the piano just played in different orders. In that case, we'd have 24 alerts/ringtones.
Windows Phone 7 Key press sounds
I'm for the windows phone 7 oryginal keypress sounds. I use HD2 and i want to replace it for WP7 sound.
Could make a pack of these files for me?
Be very grateful
Request for update - can somebody gather all ringtones and alarm sounds form latest Tango ROM/emulator and if possible also custom NOkia/HTC/Samsung ringtones and alarm sounds and make them downloadable? Thanks
Thank you so much
can anyone tell me where the ringtones are in sys inside roms?
also how i might beable to set registry for default boot up sound?
and how i might beable to add another oem to the ringtone list?
curantly i have
windows phone
htc
in ringtone list i would like to add another catagory
oddly the nokia package installs its ringtomnes in the htc catagory!
i would like to orgnize and make nokia catagory as well!
Hi i have one question
How can i set more than 3 alarm clock?
The built-in alarms have never really been adequate for me, so I have been using SPB Time for years. It is not a free program, but I think you can download a free trial from the developer's website to see if it's right for you.
As for simply adding more alarms to the standard WM program, it may be something that can be accomplished through registry edits, but I don't know for sure. Perhaps someone else will chime in with info on that.

you can try gAlarm, you can probably still find the free one floating around
Hi everyone
i've had nothing but good things happen so far with the threads on doing custom ringtones, but on the same token, i was wondering if it was possible to do the same thing to the alarms and alerts,
say what you will about the factory alarm tones, nothing is more effective in the morning than Time by Pink Floyd

already, that's fantastic, a big thanks on behalf of everyone!
Items required:
Unlocked (with ChevronWP7 or Developer unlocked) WP7 device
ChevronWP7 Ringtone Installer
MS Expression Encoder or other audio conversion software
XAP Installer (Tom XAP or WP7 SDK Application Deployment)
TouchXplorer: http://forum.touchxperience.com/download/file.php?id=44&sid=5129675be033d863b931bdc3bee51b36
1. Choose files to use as alert/alarm sounds. If in WMA format already skip to step 3.
2. Using MS Expression or equivalent, convert files to WMA.
3. Rename desired alert tones to Alert-01.WMA (you can subsitute the number based on what sound you'd like to replace, because we will be overwriting the corresponding sound) or for alarms it'd be Alarm-01.WMA (or corresponding). NOTE: You will be overwriting the sounds so make sure you review all sounds and make sure you don't mind not having them anymore if you're overwriting them.
4. Using ChevronWP7 Ringtone Installer deploy these files to your device through an XAP Installer.
5. Install TouchXplorer by deploying XAP to device.
6. Using TouchXplorer navigate to My Documents>My Ringtones and highlight desired alert/alarm sound. Bring up the menu and copy it. Navigate back to root menu and go into Windows. Paste alert/alarm sound; it will ask if you wish to overwrite, click yes. Done. Repeat for all other alert or alarm sounds.
NOTE : I believe this will only work on HTC phones ATM, since TouchXplorer only works on HTC devices for now.
Why cant I just use the windows deployment tool (on focus) , renaming the files , I tried installing an alert using the chevron and it sent it to the ringtone folder , I made the alert, Alert-11 since they were all in sequence, but I'll try just renaming the files , if I have to use Toms Ill try that, but I cant use the touchexpress (and theres no equivelent that i know of for samsung, yet)
It does allow me to install touchexpress , but all I is the "My Device" search , not sure if it works or needs certain parameters to use to find anything, also I dont know the file structure in this phone anyway, it does have all menu items but grayed out, so it might get an update later on and work
I guess Microsoft doesnt want this on the device !
" TouchXplorer has been Revoked by Microsoft , you'll have to re-install it, but it just stays on for a minute before getting revoked again!
Download the alarm clock w/ weather app...lets you assign any song you have in Zune as an alarm tone (touchxplorer only works with htc devices)...plus it acts as a nice bedside clock with weather information
it might be worth getting the app just to see how they import the songs!

Your device re-locked itself, nothing was revoked.
This is great!!!
Hack my ringtones is succesfull, tomorrow i will try to rewrite some alert tones.
@eternalemb - thanks for the tip! i successfully added my rooster alarm and much louder txt msg and email tones!
I did it too
R2D2 as my text tone
Thanks for your time and good work!!!
Anyone figure out how to do it without an HTC Device. I have the DVP and the alarms that come with the device are no way near loud enough to wake me up. My old alarm was set to Chop Suey by System of a Down! WAKE UP!!!! I have a developer account as well if that will help.

Unlike for ringtones, there's no function for adding them in the OS (ringtones use Microsoft.Phone.Media.Extended I think) other than using file manipulation, or registry tweaks, both of which can only be done on HTC devices at the moment.
This is great!!! Worked a treat for the alerts. Just need to do the alarms now.
Just one question..... There seems to be a limit on the number of alerts. Has anyone else come across this? Originally there are 10 alerts so I created an 11th but this doesn't seem to get picked up at all.

The alerts are listed in the registry by name, you're replacing one of the built in ones, so no changes are needed there, adding an extra alert will only work if you can edit the registry.

Hey guys,
Just got the galaxy s2 today after switching from windows mobile. So far, best phone ever. enough said.
Anyway one thing I really like with windows mobile is I could mute the ringtone when I was in a meeting. Is there an app that will let me do that in android?
Thanks in advance
Tasker (paid app) allows this. It works very well for me. You can create your own profiles for almost anything you can imagine. Here is a short list of example profiles you can download and use straight away... to get you started. The 'silent in meetings' profile is included in the list.
I'm using a few different profiles at the moment:
- Silent in meetings (useful)
- Talking clock on the hour (useless but fun)
- When I plug in headphones, a pop up window appears with shortcuts to all my music/podcast/FMradio apps etc (useful)
- Turn on Wifi in specific locations (useful, battery saving and less hassle doing it manually)
Place the phone face down? It mute's all sounds, unless you're looking for an option to silence it while its in your pocket..then look above.
Hey there, all you need is this app called, Shush! Ringer Restorer -- it's just incredible, and Free too. And it does only what you've asked, no more no less.

Thanks everyone, Im glad there are many options. Ill give them all a try.
Thanks again
all you need to do is press volume up or down when your phone is ringing, and then it will go silent.
no need for any third party programs.
