Hi I have an XDA11s that when i try to charge I just get a red led instead of usual orange then green and unit does not charge any suggestions
Rob.
Replace the battery?
Replace the charging cable?
Those are my two suggestions
i agree with jdc...
but additional check...
- undervolt?
i had that problem when they gave me a 220v input charger
with a 110v sticker. i ripped off the sticker to find the embossed
print of the right voltage needed.

I bought an external battery adaptor which allows a PP3 (9v) battery to connect to the multiway socket on the base of my XDAIIs. I didn't try it until I actually needed it and then found that it doesn't light the orange 'charging' LED and doesn't seem to be doing anything. I also have another device which takes 4 'AA' batteries and again although the power indicator lights on the adaptor it does not seem to be charging the XDA. Both were advertised as being XDAIIs compatible.
Is there a difference between diffent models of the XDA in the charging connections or am I just unlucky and have got two faulty adaptors? Oh, the normal mains charger works fine still.
I got a XDAIII and built myself an external charger. If the light doen't lit, it ain't chargin. IF it lits but you dont see any diference on the battery satus, possibily the external bateries dont have enough miliamps to charge your xda. or... you could have faulty thingys.
9 v? strange... too much voltage for it. unless it has a circuit of some kind to reduce power.
well xda1 and 2 can use the same cradle / charger connector not 100% sure about IIs but why would they change it for s ?
guess it also could be the people who were to test if it worked just tested if the connector fit'd
mabe it's made for ipaq's who have the same connector but diffferent wireing
Hello
I have an iPAQ h5150 that has a damaged connector so I can't plug it in to charge it. It works OK otherwise. I have the charger with the male post connector and would like to solder in some wires and a female connector (e.g. from Radio Shack) just so I can charge it. Does anyone have information of how I can wire this thing up to do this. Alternatively, does anyone know how to charge the battery externally? There's 5 pins on the Battery that connects to the iPAQ, and I would like to know how I can apply the charger's output to the battery to charge it up. ANy schematic diagram availble would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike
Is the charger terminals on the cradle damaged, or the slot in the Ipaq itself?
You can buy charging tips that fit this model on ebay for about $9.00, that slide over the barrel plug on the ac adapter. If the charging slot is ok you could charge that way.
So I was trying to hardwire the USB cable into my car and now all of a sudden, it won't charge the phone. Tried different charger and battery to no luck. Took a peek inside the board and everything seems fine.
Does this mean it's DOA and I'd have to buy another phone? I just ordered a Seido battery and battery charger so I may live on that for a while. Please advise.
So you hardwired your usb cable to a 12v power supply?
Yes. I did this same thing before to my other car and it worked flawless. Obviously didn't work with this one.
Wait, it messed up the phone is what you are saying? It doesn't turn on at all?
No it turns on fine, but the battery refuses to be charged.
I would take it back to Verizon. Once they see that it isn't charging they will give you a refurb.
I would do that if I hadn't rooted it and took out the physical parts to replace the glass and LCD display. Basically it's voided.
Well if it won't turn on at all, it being rooted wont matter. You no longer have the green "void" sticker on the bottom left screw?
Dude, REALLY?! Come on, please tell me you're kidding. 5 volts DC is what USB devices take and you're wondering why your phone won't charge after giving it way more voltage than it needs? Your phone is done. Hint: don't attempt this again unless you can step the voltage down to 5V DC at no more than 1 amp. It'll work fine in the car if you can step the voltage and amperage down to the required level. Phones toast thought.

Hey Guys I love my one x and I have an external charger.
Its a 12000 mah battery and is rated at 5.5v at 1a for phones and another port at 5v at 2a
Its more than enough to power the one x at the same rate as mains.
When I plug it in the phone only charges as USB not AC. I was told that all I had to do was bridge the 2middle lines on the USB port, but that didn't sound right to me so thought I'd have Xda confirm
With my touchpad I had to make an adapter as it needs more juice and stuff so being told to just bridge sounded off.
Thanks all
You have been informed correctly. Your phone will look to see if the two data pins are shorted. If it sees that, it'll not limit it's charging current to 500mA. This is what HTC do with their official mains wall chargers.
It is usually tricky to modify the centre pins on the USB socket, and would certainly bugger your warranty with your battery. What is easier to do is to modify a cable. Get a spare one, and peel back the insulation and screen. You'll find 4 wires, red, black, green and white. It's the green and white ones for data. Cut these, and the end that plugs into the phone (the micro USB side) twist them together. Patch the cable back up with electrical tape. Your phone will now see the short on data connection and behave like it's plugged into an official HTC wall charger.
It's important to mention that you should never use a modified cable between your phone and PC/laptop. You may risk damage to the motherboard.
Thanks mate.
I glued a square of aluminum foil between the two center pins on my charger.
Hi, I have a Trent imp1000 which has 11000mah capacity. That means it can charge our one x 6times. But it's only charging my phone for 4times. Is this because the battery is supplying the power at rate of 1A and our phone can only charge at 650ma? Possibly 350ma of wastage?

Its the same issue mate. You need to short the two middle pins to get the full AC version of charge.

It's because of the loss of power through heat. These things aren't 100% efficient, and not all the power in the external battery goes into the internal battery.
Hi!
All owners of Kidigi car dock should read and do this!
I got a Kidigi car dock with charger. The first thing I tried was putting the phone on the included charger - and indeed, it did charge in "AC mode" (aka 1000mA max).
Then I installed the cradle, connected the charger to the cradle and started using it.
But after 2 days I noticed it doesn't really charge when navigating or recording - and it was not an overheat issue. So today I looked again and it was charging in USB mode!
Apparently, the good folks at Kidigi screwed up the connection inside the dock (probably to trigger Car mode and forgot to connect it all).
The fix:
1) unscrew the four visible screws on the back of the dock (not the 4 center ones)
2) unscrew the fifth screw under the label on top
3) unscrew the phillips screw that holds the connector
4) short PINs on the phone side labelled D- and D+ (I just used a blob of solder)
5) that's it
Now it triggers Car mode AND charges in AC.
This fix is essential for anybody using this dock, and I'll be mailing Kidigi shortly to let them know they screwed up...
mine charges mine fine whilst using GPS and Bluetooth.
Not a quick charge tho but it definitely charges more than discharges if that makes sense .
I will check the pins tho thanks =)

I hope this wasn't on purpose for the sake of overheating?

It doesn't overheat from charging, but from using it (Navigation, recording, video...). AC charging does no harm in this respect (nor does it help).
You'll notice it when something is running and the brightness is on full - USB charging will not feed the phone and it will start to discharge.
So is this a problem at the charger end if so I have a belkin 1amp charger I can use.
I understand the data pins have to be shorted for it to see the AC mode.
In my power menu both the chargers I have say AC whether plugged in through the dock
or just to the cable and charger without the dock.
surely this means its OK or would show usb am I wrong?
I've opened the dock and can't see for the life of me the name on the pins +
my soldering skills are a bit much to be desired when working this small

No, the problem is inside the cradle itself - even though pins on your charger are shorted, they are not even connected through the cradle connector. You have to short them at the cradle connector.
Btw all chargers will work as AC then
Strange that it shows AC for you, are you sure it's right? Can you make a photo of the connector? Maybe you got a different revision or something...

Yes it definately shows AC for both my chargers whether plugged through the cradle or not.
Does yours show USB or something? Like I said mine does charge all be it very slowly when using copilot.
Is the writing for the pins obvious for you as I swear I have none

I'll be damned!
Plug phone in dock then plug in charger (shows AC!)
Plug charger in FIRST then put phone in dock shows USB!
In the instructions they say to do it the first way I think.
I wonder if it is charging AC then hmmmmmm?

I got mine today and found it was charging in AC when I tried either way!

Gonna go get dressed ( I'm having a lazy morning ) and i will double check but I swear its fine
EDIT : Confirmed mine is fine. I checked with the bundled charger cable as well as my own and whether the plug is in before the HOX is in the cradle or after, power settings shows "Charging AC" in all cases. I haven't seen USB charging at all with the cradle. They must have realised their mistake and fixed it.
Today the car dock Kidigi arrived.
When connecting the phone, I noticed that there is recharged via USB.
Through this tip, Is now loaded by AC ....!
BIG [email protected] zvieratko.
(Sorry for my bad English)
Seems I'm the only one with a working dock out the box!!
Mine is aslo writing AC charge, but it is definitelly not AC charge. Going to fix it
I'm definitely curious how mine is going to work.
Ordered mine last week through ebay, so I hope it's a late build without the problem.
'Cause I don't have a blob or solder or whatever can fix this thing...
Hi guys,
I recently bought one of these Kidigi car mounts for my HTX One X and have found that the battery will slowly drain (about 1% every 10 mins) when I have it docked and am using sat nav (Google Nav or Co-Pilot). My battery app says that the phone is charging (estimates about 6 hours to charge 30%).
I've checked the charging method and it shows that it's charging via AC (not USB).
I've tried a few things like running Co-Pilot in power saving mode, dimming the screen, closing down all over background apps, but my battery still slowly drains.
Do you think this soldering fix might help?
Thanks all.
AC or USB changing
Hi, i've brought various chargers off ebay and other sources and even when the phone reports AC charging i've had leads that use wire so thin that the phone cant get the high current charging to work.
Check that your adapter is providing more than 500 mA. Certainly I've had no trouble with it charging the phone while navigating.
I have a question regarding this mod. I bought this charger and am fixing to recenter the microusb port to properly mate with otterbox commuter case still on. The OP states to just short the 2 data pins together, but I'm wondering if I should do this with a resistor to load balance the lines or if that is even necessary?
