Dear All,
In common with many of you (I'm sure), I am struggling with the choice between a Prophet and the Atom (or wait for the Hermes...?)
Pros:
camera (have seen great pictures from prophet)
wireless G
Quad band (not essential but nice to have)
Bluetooth 2
SD (currently 2 gig ultra, don't want to have to buy another one!)
Cons
No FM Radio
no flash (not fussed really)
Question over the Processor speed.
The big question, however, is whether either system will run TomTom 5 (or 5.2). This is the real go/no go app for me, and I would greatly appreciate anyone who has used either handset and can let me know whether they can run TomTom.
Many thanks in advance for your advice.

Is it possible to make a WM5 rom for HTC Voyager / O2 Xphone? HTC Voyager is still abundant here in the Philippines and others are wondering if it is capable to have a WM5 rom. Since no one here in the Philippines can make a rom, I brought it up here where there are lots of person who can make one.

if it's possible, i hope someout out there wouldn't mind to make a rom....it would be greatly appreciated by filipinos
My guess - its too late. This model is not popular around here
I know this is a old thread. But..
Ive been looking around for a small smartphone that could be used to play my music and be used with my bluetooth headphones. Im using the blue angel at the moment and it works superb (except the ablity to use sdhc cards). But its just too big and im always worried if i crack the screen plus it looks pretty nerdy..
So i saw this phone.. Which is excazly what im after. (Which i might add is the only phone that has bluetooth and supports a sd cards).
But i see no one has made any upgrades for it?
Well ill just put it out there that if someone can make this phone to enable a2dp bluetooth profile and support sdhc sd cards (having windows mobile 5+ would be a bonus). Id have to say that this phone with an extended battery would be one of the best phones on the market today.
Ive just started doing a three year programming course at the moment. So if no one else is willing to program a rom. Then hopefully soon ill learn how to develop me own one

HTC Press Release HTC Touch Cruise / Polaris
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LONDON — November 12 2007 — HTC Corp. (TAIEX: 2498; “HTC”), the world’s leading provider of Microsoft Windows Mobile® smart devices, today launched the HTC Touch Cruise™, the third member of the HTC Touch product family and the first to feature in-built GPS for personal navigation. Building on the popularity of the HTC Touch™ and the HTC Touch Dual™, the HTC Touch Cruise also includes 3G-HSDPA wireless connectivity.
Users on the move will easily be able to interact with the HTC Touch Cruise’s navigation functionality and can take advantage of HTC’s TouchFLO technology, which enhances finger touch scrolling and browsing of Web pages, documents, messages and contact lists, controlled by simply sweeping a finger across the screen. TouchFLO also offers the ability to view photos and photo slideshows using on-screen controls and to zoom and rotate images with only one hand.
Stylish and sleek in design, the HTC Touch Cruise is a further illustration of HTC’s commitment to innovation and to building a suite of touchscreen devices that cater to a variety of customer needs and styles. The HTC Home screen will provide one-touch access to emails, text messages, calendar appointments and contacts, as well as current weather conditions and forecasts for hundreds of cities around the world. Users then simply sweep their finger up the display to launch an animated, three-dimensional interface comprising three screens: Contacts, Media and Applications. The interface can be spun by swiping a finger right or left across the display, providing efficient access to the features consumers use most.
The new Touch Cruise boasts super fast HSDPA/3.5G connectivity plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, making it a highly connected device for consumers on the move. Its 2.8” screen is great for enjoying mobile multimedia and because it runs on Windows Mobile 6, the built-in Windows Media Player is ideal for music and movies.
Florian Seiche, VP of HTC Europe, commented, “The original HTC Touch has already been a phenomenal success, and the HTC Touch Cruise™ with fully integrated GPS adds another dimension to our leading touchscreen device family. We firmly believe in the importance of choice – one device does not fit everyone’s needs – and we’re proud to have been able to launch three HTC Touch devices since June.”
The HTC Touch Cruise utilizes mapping and navigation solutions from TomTom. This navigation software comes complete with a taster city map or the option of full maps of Western Europe. Other key features include a three megapixel auto focus camera, FM radio and Micro SD memory card slot for adding to the 128MB RAM. The device will be available form both retailers and SIM free from HTC from this month.
Launched in June 2007, the HTC Touch was the first member of the HTC Touch family and has proven to be a massive hit since it launched. The HTC Touch Dual, which features HSDPA connectivity and a sliding keypad, was launched in October 2007.

Oooooooo! Don't know about that!
I might just have to get onto this one. Orbit with attitude!
sdhc sounds cool and access to the storage card is nice.
but everything else isn't that impressive to me.
think faster cpu will decrease batterylife, don't you think guys ?....
no fm radio anymore ?
I will find out, rumors of RDS at HTC Press will find out from O2 development
Yeah Polaris is there ! Woooo !
Any information about his price ??
A-GPS is almost worthless for navigation
Ooops, Sorry that was stupid
I thought that the Polaris was supposed to have a VGA screen! Some nice improved bits, but nothing to major enough to worth trading my Artemis in.
Looks bigger! Any info on the size of this device, is it bigger then the artemis?

About same size as kaiser
Damn wheel
Overall, yes please!!! It is a huge improvement in connectivity, storage and processing power. Two issues though:
It appears that the one thing that I hate on the Orbit is still there: the wheel! Why, o why don't they get rid of this useless gimmick and put direction buttons instead?
It looks like that one of the things I like most in its current form is missing: the trackball.
Does the insider know more about these issues?

Hi!
Well, it looks like you got both. Take a look at post 7 in the original thread http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=10074368
Original thread over on the PPC forum says it is BOTH directional dpad and rotating wheel.
Regards,
PK

Thanks PK,
I do hope that the "leaked" images of the O2 version are not 100% accurate and we do get more buttons. Buying the subsidised O2 product instead of the generic HTC makes the difference between paying £30 or £400 ( 45 € or 600 € )
What happened to the VGA screen? The early rumors all indicated that this was going to be VGA. How are they going to compete with the E-tens?
Dear Santa (get in early)
Slightly shorter than the orbit, double the storage, double the ram, at least twice as fast a processor, and a really nice flush screen like the touch, oh and better camera and 3g, who said not much of an improvement, looks awesome to me. I think it will be a choice of vogue or polaris for me this xmas, the extra hardware buttons on the polaris could just swing it, but the vogue is a bit smaller hmm...

You missed the external MicroSD slot off your list!
Well I like the HTC manufactured sony ericsson xperia X1 but I really LOVE THE SAMSUNG I900 OMNIA!!!!!
Is it possible to port android to any windows mobile device with these specs???:
Network: quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE + HSDPA 7.2Mbps
Wireless: stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), WiFi
Display: 3.2-inch WQVGA (240×400 pixels) touchscreen
Camera: 5 megapixels with auto-focus, featuring face and smile detection as well as auto-panorama shots
OS/UI: Windows Mobile 6.1 with Samsung's widget-friendly TouchWiz user interface running on top of it
CPU: Marvell 624MHz (*update*)
Other: built-in GPS, accelerometer for auto-rotation, optical mouse
Two models will be sold: 8GB and 16GB, that can further be expanded with microSD memory cards
what makes HTC phones different in terms of running android??? isn't samsung in the android alliance with google??
Samsung is also with the LiMo solutions. I agree, the Samsung OMNIA looks real good. I have the SCH-i760 and it is acting up big time and I am not getting my calls from my Doctors or Nurses so it's bad.
Looking through the teardown from iFixit.com, the EVO has the same Wifi/Bluetooth chip as the Nexus 1 and Droid Incredible: BCM4329

http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus-One-Teardown/1654/2
http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Solutions/BCM4329
Anyone with the skills to get an 802.11n driver hacked in?
Saw this Android Open Source :
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg09253.html
Linux WLAN driver for BCM4329 - Low-Power 802.11n with Bluetooth(R)
2.1+ EDR and FM (Tx and Rx)
And this from Android open source project:
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=pl...c;hb=f427424c414886903e4ad654c143c8ce6ec10e3c
Froyo has it, Nexus one users who updated to froyo already enjoy N although some say the difference in speed is very minimal.
if you are anywhere near your router, wireless g is tons faster than your router-net connection will be, most likely. so, going faster to the router isn't going to make much difference if it bottlenecks at the router.
where you may see increases would be in a WLAN, if everything is configured to N-band. otherwise, if you are accessing a 802.11g device on your network, that's the slow man in your transmission, and it won't matter, again.
What about range (which is a problem for the EVO)
It may only be that the router is better, or it may be that 5GHz is better (I know the new iphone only does N on 2.4Ghz, I'm not sure about the EVO) but I know with my airport extreme the range is better to my MacBook, and that in general other N routers have better range to N devices.
This should answer your questions:
BCM4329 - Low-Power 802.11n with Bluetooth® 2.1 + EDR and FM (Tx and Rx)
The Broadcom BCM4329 integrates a complete IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n system (MAC/baseband/radio) with Bluetooth® 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), and FM radio receiver and transmitter. In addition to bringing greater Wi-Fi throughput and coverage to mobile consumer electronics, the BCM4329 is Broadcom's smallest and lowest cost dual-band 802.11n solution. It features integrated 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WLAN CMOS power amplifiers, which reduce BoM costs while maintaining superior performance. The BCM4329 also utilizes advanced design techniques and process technologies to reduce active and idle power consumption and extend battery life.
With wifi-N working, you will get the benefits of dual band.
