MSN with the video cam? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Does anyone know is there anyway I can use the videocam or the 3G camera to do MSN live camera with wifi? I can only use the 3G camera for phone calls.. it would be nice if that's possible... even if not MSN..or any software that we can use...

I think this has been tried many times, and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a solution (pls correct me if i'm wrong)
that said, you can always try Microsoft Portrait if you like. I haven't tried it on WM6, but if it does work, let us know.

wmIRC

I've downloaded and installed the trial for wmIRC and it's working fine over WIFI on my HTC S621, but I can't get it to work over GPRS\EDGE ? I can use IE and Opera Mini without the WIFI.
Any ideas of what I can try, or are there other Windows Mobile Smartphone Standard IRC clients I could try?
Thank you,
Tim

make sure you start an edge connection before trying to log onto irc. i use wmirc daily and works through either connection. just open a browser and go to a website to initiate the data connection (for some reason wmirc will initiate *sometimes* and not others) then open irc and just hit connect. may take a sec to go through the ident and ****...but it gets there...

I've tried that, no luck. I don't have the ident option checked, but I never need it for WIFI. I'm just wondering if it's my carrier, Suncom blocking it. It's just strange to me that my email, IE, mini-opera, etc. works. But not this.
I'm looking now to see if I can find a way to link (or echo) messages over to an instant messenger ID. Because I know that I can get Palringo or some other IM client to work.
Thank you,

I wasnt so much talking about enabling indent..i was just talking about when you connect to the server and i queries the client..
what version of wmirc is it?
This probably doesn't help much but I have it working fine on another device over CDMA.
Honestly, prepare to be disappointed though. Its a very buggy program. The user lists tend to disappear, sometimes a new pm opens and switching from one to the next shows the same messages, and it randomly completely crashes.
There's also zsIRC at zsirc.com. However, this is many written for WM Pro, so there's a lot of things that you can't do if you don't have a touchscreen (also, you can't install the .cab on WM Standard and need to use the .exe installer.)
i agree. but for smartphone its really the only one that works. ive tried 3. wmirc, jirc and some other one that i cant remember.
as far as just chattin in a channel, its fine. ive had it up with no disconnects on the edge network for 8 hours. with wifi i have left on for days and it never crashed or disconnected. yea the user list is a little retarded, but thats a non issue for me. you can still use basic commands like /whois . i dont think its ever going to get better than this though. as far as i know, no one else is developing a new client.
so i guess just pick the lesser poison..if you want to run it through java (which i couldnt stand) try out jirc.
shoot me a pm and let me know what version you have. i will probably just give you a link to my site and you can try the one i have because i know it works. im running 6.1 rickys v. 24
I'm just using the standard 2.2 from the wmirc.com site.

I780 and Skype

Hey guys,
Some people are claiming that Skype works properly on their I780... For me it doesn't... I can use it with a headset or the handsfree but the internal speaker (the one for normal phone calls) doesn't work. I've tried several Roms to check if there is one which makes Skype work but nothing worked...
So, I was just wondering if you could tell me about your experience with Skype. Is it working properly for you? If so, please let me know what you did to make it work.
Thanks guys!
no comments about skype on the I780? Does nobody wanna use it?

As far as I know, Skype, or any other software, can't use the speaker that you would normally use for phone calls on Windows Mobile devices. Only the internal phone- and VoIP-application of Windows Mobile is allowed to use the speaker of the phone. All other applications must use the speaker on the back.
So there is no way to get this to work, unless Microsoft adds access to this speaker through their API.
I use Skype sometimese and it's really driving me mad that I can't use it with built-in phone speaker or BT headset.
It also seems not using all available bandwidth so the quality is only acceptable.
skype works on my i780.
one day i was in samsung service centre to upgrade my rom, the samsung service personel noticed my i780 had skype installed. he asked how i managed to get it works. lol
i told him i dont know, i just download and install

So you are saying that your skype is working properly? You can use the earpiece of the phone to call people? Sorry man, but I think you are confusing something. I found out that some people thought their earpiece would be working but what they heard came from the handsfree speaker. If you turn down the volume of the handsfree speaker, it kind of sounds like the internal earpiece speaker... Can you check again please?
the phone would be just perfect with skype functionality but it cant use the normal earpiece...
Did anyone find a solution?
Maybe Skype Mobile 3 Beta is worth of checking out.
for my skye works (even trough normal built in speaker), but only wifi. Is it posible my provider (t-mobile nl) has disabled the port or something?
It looks like some of you don't pay atenttion to what is written here, and keeps asking the same question.
As Ralph said, there is no way to get around it. It's not just a Skype problem, It doesn't work with all the others third party applications.
The same thing happends with the front camera in all the Instant Messengers. It just doens't work.

I have the same problem but I found a trick!!
Launch Skype with no wifi.
Switch Wifi on (it is fine even if u are in an area with protected only or no access point at all).
You'll notice that your status will become available (green).
Switch Wifi off.
Don't ask me why.....but it seems to work!!

Do you mean that you can hear Skype call via earpiece?? Are u sure? It is not supported by skype it self!! In my opinion you are confusing the sound source. I'll be more than happy to be wrong.
Can u post your i780 ROM ans Skype version?

As far as audio routing is concerned.....Skype 3 beta is not working like previous build.

TP2 front facing camera useability

Has anyone in the US been able to utilize the front facing video camera on the unlocked TP2, i.e. AT&T video share calling, picture taking, etc. I ask because I'm worried when the at&t TP2 is released it won't have this camera and it would be nice to have it as an additional feature much like the xperia x1a has.
BTW, I was told by a Sony store rep that the FFC on the xperia x1 was for use with video calling on skype but as far as I know Skype does not yet support video calling for its mobile application. So is this true?
Thanks
I only know that the front camera works on mine for taking pictures. I haven't tried video calling because I heard my network (tmobile) doesn't support video calling. I never used Skype so I don't know the answer to that either.
I have a kaiser with a front camera and I use it with pictures only. I use palringo IM client so I can take front camera pics to send through the network. I have not tried any kind of video calling.

How to get Skype working for the TP2

The reason for this thread is to help people get Skype working to its fullest extent and resolve some of the issues. The ultimate objective is to allow those with Skype subscriptions to get unlimited anytime calling across North America if they pay the $2.95 / month for the Skype plan and have unlimited data...
Download Skype 3.0 for Windows Phones here:
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windowsmobile/
It installs fine and theoretically works great, however, there are a number of issues:
1. Skype automatically routes all audio to the speakerphone.
To route the audio to the earpieces, install audioRoute from Teksoft:
http://teksoftco.com/storage/download.php?product=audioroute_ppc
This product is discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=495166
It essentially installs an icon in your taskbar that loads when the phone starts up. Once you open Skype, you click the icon, select the first icon, which is the earpiece, and then all audio will get routed to the earpiece when using Skype.
To route the audio to a Bluetooth headset, then install A2DP toggle from Teksoft:
http://teksoftco.com/storage/download.php?product=a2dptoggle
This program should theoretically allow you to select the Bluetooth headset when Skype is loaded. It should theoretically be able to be loaded concurrently with audioRoute. I have not tested it fully.
2. Skype will not work unless connected to a wifi connection
I had tested Skype and thought it worked flawlessly until someone with an iPhone mentioned that he had to install some sort of program to "trick" Skype into thinking it was connected to a Wifi. I believe that this is an issue with the way Microsoft has designed Windows Mobile, but is probably intential to prevent competition for telecommunication company voice packages. This issue supposedly does not exist with Windows Mobile clients.
Just ensure that ActivSync/Wifi/Mobile is enabled under the Connection settings.
3. Skype Mobile does not support video calling
I'm not sure if this is a software issue or just something that can be hacked. I see no reason why this functionality would be disabled in the Mobile version of Skype... any insight would be appreciated.
Would love it if anyone else is experiencing problem 2 as well... I want to find out if it's isolated to my handset... or even to just my carrier.

No problem here on a Vodafone TP2. Skype uses the 3G connection fine.
You know that htere's a setting that tells Skype what connection(s) to use? It defaults to "Use ActiveSync/Wifi" but can be changed to "Use ActiveSync/Wifi/Mobile"
It was working for me I think
see the message below

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, but I have made calls through Skype on my TyTN II using the Australian Three 3G network. Called my wife on her mobile in Shanghai with no problems. Well, the connection was pretty horrible (I think it's a bit hard work for both the phone and the network) but it connected fine for as long as I wanted.
As tjobbins said, in the Connection Method settings, I can "Use ActiveSync/WiFi" or "Use ActiveSync/WiFi/Mobile"... so if I'm overseas, I leave it on the first one; in Australia on the second one.

Interesting... I think my settings might have changed because I tested it again just now and it worked!
Thanks all!
I'm interested in how this works. I own the Titan at the moment and Skype only works over Wifi. Do you know if Skype plans on fixing the problem with calls only being heard from speaker phone? Any update on video calling?
off-topic question here, does anyone know if the titan operates on 3G? (i have sprint)

We can only hope. Skype have their forums and I saw a number of posts complaining about those missing features. I guess we should add our voices, though I would expect it will take a while for it to be fixed; the current version for Windows Mobile, Skype 3, was released fairly recently.
One alternative to look at is Fring. It supports better audio routing, i.e. calls are not only on speakerphone - they can come through the normal phone earpiece, or a bluetooth headset. Don't think it does video. As well as Skype, it also supports MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, AIM and others, so it's a good all-in-one client.
However on the TP2 Fring does currently have one quite annoying issue - it doesn't seem to work on Wifi. It's fine on mobile/3G connections, but on Wifi it won't list access points or connect. This is reported on their forums but no sign of a fix yet. Actually I did once get it connect to WiFi, but I don't really know how and haven't been able to repeat it.
Oh I just remembered the other huge problem with Skype for Windows Mobile - it doesn't list your phone contacts!
Bloody useless when you want to make a Skype Out call, and you end up having to go into the contact record, copy their number, and then paste it into Skype. Really daft.
Fring does list your contacts, and you can use it for Skype Out as well as Fring's own paid-for outbound dialling system.
I have another problem: NO notifications! So i don't know if someone chats or phone me! It's useless in that way!

Thanks for the suggestion. I want to make sure that I'm using only data-only when making calls, since I have unlimited data... and limited daytime voice minutes.
I installed fring, and it doesn't show the TP2 as a supported device. When I launched it, it kept asking me to find a WLAN... except nothing shows up on the list! Wifi is enabled AND data is enabled, and it keeps showing Not Available...
Has it worked on your TP2?

Nope. See my post before the one you quoted! It doesn't work on WiFi on the TP2 at the moment - and also on some other WM devices I think.
Works great on 3G and ActiveSync, just doesn't work on WiFi.
Except.. once for me it did. It suddenly connected and I don't know how or why. Haven't managed to repeat it yet though. But maybe there's a workaround lying in there waiting to be (re) discovered

No no - I had wifi disabled and just tried to use regular data connection... but it couldn't find the connection for some reason.
Hate to bump an old thread... but I finally got Fring working on my TP2 (latest version), but SkypeOut calls don't actually direct to the Earpiece... I don't hear anything. Loudspeaker works fine.

Does the HTC Wildfire S work with Skype?

I would like to buy this wonderful phone but first i need to ensure that skype works..Has anyone tried it yet?
I have searched all over the internet and i have found that due to cpu freq skype does not work smoothly, especially when the screen goes blank(proximity sensor) and the OS drops the cpu freq. But that answer was 6 months old So i hope for a bit advancement in skype development..
I would be grateful if anyone that has tested skype in that phone could give me a more accurate answer!
I can confirm it works without any doubt , plus you have possibility to add voip accounts without installing any extra app
Thanx man! Btw not so important but does the front cam work with skype ?

It doesn't have a front camera
but, Skype is working Perfectly (Y)
@koki-tytnII
which version do you have runing on it? coz on mine it just make problems when I speak, and exactly when skype is running on background, that means when the display is turning off
thanks
you can find skype app at market.
So my own experience with Skype and that "****ty", but cheap, cellphone (Wildfire S, by the way, I used the official HTC ROM)... So that's just impossible to handle the calls with Skype. I tried Skype, Skype lite, Skype on 3 (a special version of Skype which allows just the chats, so NO CALLS)...
So I installed Viber. The calls are pretty good even if the sound is quite low... But compare to Skype (desktop software version) that's not the same quality/rapidity!
To sum up : Skype doesn't work well for the calls! Okay you can use it to chat with your friends but some better applications exist (like WhatsApp).
A buddy of mine used tasker to setup a profile to keep the screen ON when i'm on a skypecall, so skype has benefit of the max cpu produced.. I've got crystal clear skypecalls over 3G here
I use Skype_on_3 without any problems: audio cristal clear.
With normal skype instead, I have the famous choppy sound that make it useless (3G or wi-fi is the same).
I tried to use headphones to leave the screen on, but the problem is still there.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
(Wildfire S, Stock ROM, S-OFF, last skype updated yesterday from the market.)
Skype works perfectly normal, and its very good to use with head set, and there is no lag. tho` there is no front camera for video calls ... and i think the 600mhz wouldnt handle video calls
skype doesn't work for me either (Wildfire S, Vodafone Ireland, Standard ROM, S-ON).
I think it works when the phone is flat and I use a headset, but that's pretty limited!
I tried downgrading to an older version (Skype 1.0.0.984 and Skype 1.0.0.983), no success either. Any suggestion?
I had the same problem, i uninstalled the new version and installed the old v1 and works just fine, no problems whatsoever

Where can you find an old version? The market only has the latest. I wanted to use skype over wifi and the sound is to bad it's useless. I thought it was a bandwidth issue but I tested and got about 10 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up so I know it's not that - glad to see that others are having this issue also not just me. But I'd be even happier if I could get a fix
I found skype 1.03 and it works without the new versions chopped-up sound - works just FINE!!! Found it here
Hi,
I agree about using an old version. I do it as well and speaking works very very good, and sometime better then my old notebook.
Just one thing that I really dont like, with such old version skype doesnt support sending sms, which means, when I need to speak I use the old one, for sending sms the new one.
Perhaps there is a stable version from skype which allows sending sms? Or is there a way to install two version of skype?
thanks
