And that reason alone is enough to stay with XP.
ok, I installed it, it says, after 1 click only (next)
that I have the latest version, yet, nothing happens when I plug my phone, all it shows is the browse external drive kinda window. No active sync whatsoever????
Any1 have an idea??? I really need this to work, thanks a million guys!
when you connect your device to vista and the "Windows Mobile Device Center" does NOT launch then all you have to do is go to your start menu and you should see it under "all programs" it has a green icon, but remember, like what "indiekiduk" said, "Windows Mobile Device Center" is a bit different than activesync.

Im going to get my htc hd tomorrow, and wonder wich is the easiest way to sync my phone with outlook. I want to sync with calender and email not contacts.
Sync should be like, Home Computer <-> Phone <-> Work .
If i make a change somewhere all 3 should be updated,
I run mobileme now and thinks it works great. So something like that would be great.
Any ideas?
If you use VISTA, use the integrated Mobile Device center to sync, it is an updated version of Active Sync wich you should download when u use XP. Both are from Microsoft and are free and easy to use. When connecting your HD touch the first time, you can easly set up what you want to sync.
Perfect, i try that tomorrow.
A small tip:
When I first tried to sync through Mobile Device Center, it didn't recognize my HD. Turned out it was my Vista that I never update (I have my reasons ). After I donwloaded and installed all updates, Mobile Device Center instantly recognized with my phone.
That's right! But I think Vista wil auto update the driver needed for the HTC when you connect your device...
I'm having a problem with this. I run my laptop on Vista, but when I connect my Touch HD the laptop seems to know that it's there but the Windows Mobile doesnt and I can't connect or pair my phone.
HELP PLEASE! I don't know how I can get it to work! Thanks in advance.
Cindy
i'm having the same problem cindy but with my pc running vista after i installed the new rom on my HD from the htc site did you solved it already?
thanks louis
I have Vista Home and I installed HTC Sync using the .exe file that was inside the SD card supplied with the phone. But I have no joy getting this to work and so I cannot sync my Outlook contacts and calendar. The phone shows "cannot find HTC Sync on your PC and.. etc" When I looked into Control Panel/Device Manager I can see that there is a big yellow exclamation mark under Android USB Devices which reads "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)".
Any joy from anyone to sync your contacts and calendar ? thanks Peter
of course it works, take the .exe and right click on it & choose properties...
you now see a tab "compatibility" en you can choose to run it as XP with service pack 2 ...
now it have to work properly.
Its very usefull onces you know it.
otherwise you can look for the programm "the missing sync for android"
good luck
Are you using the latest version of Sync - same as that available from HTC's website? I'm running Vista Home Premium x64 without compatibility and it's running fine.
After installing HTC Sync on the PC, you also have to switch the Desire from charge mode or USB disk mode to HTC Sync mode. Failing that, have you got a firewall/AV package which could be blocking it?
same issue
I've got exactly the same problem, did you fix yours? any tips?
HTC Desire Sync Problems
I'm new here so forgive any duplication.
I am having the same problems with the HTC Sync .exe, Vista Home Basic and the Device driver incompatability.
It has been a while since the last post to this thread and I was wondering if anyone has found a solution to the above problems. I hope so as it is driving me mad
Hi, I bought my Desire last Saturday, and it synched flawlessly with my Windows7 64bit notebook.... but that is not my pc -_-
My pc is a Vista Home Premium 32 bit, and I encountered the same exact problems that some mentioned in this thread... did any solution come out to solve it? Or Vista HP 32 owners are going to be disappointed?
Sorry for the double post, but I think I have good news
Trying again after I updated to Vista Service Pack 1, the "My HTC" device was installed perfectly, and connecting the phone to an USB port on the rear of the PC, the sync worked as a charm
I hope this will be helpful to someone, bye!
I also have a problem with HTC Sync on my laptop running vista 32 bit. I've installed it in the past but when it's installed it seems to interfere with my internet connection, basically slowing the connection down, it's as if it's stopping then starting over and over again. For example if im downloading or using youtube it will download a bit then hang for a couple of minutes or hang forever. Then when i uninstall Sync the internet is fine again.
To be honest i don't really use Sync but i'd like the option to be able to use it without messing up my internet.
Any ideas as to why this might be happening?
So... No idea what's happened, but today I can no longer sync my phone with my Win7 laptop. So far I've deleted the partnership on my phone & in the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC.) Then I uninstalled and reinstalled WMDC. The error I'm seeing in the Event Viewer:
Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code).

I'm at a loss here. I've never had a problem syncing my phone before. I've been syncing it regularly with this laptop & my home pc for months. The only thing I've done lately is install CoPilot8.
I can see the M$ Windows Mobile Remote Adapter show up under 'Network Adapters' in the device manager. Should anything else show up? Any ideas? I've been reading up on this error message for ages now and nothing's working for me. I really don't want to do a hardreset, but I will if I can't find anything else to try.

This is the only thing I've found that might be relevant...according to the posts it seems to be caused by a conflicting driver issue, there's a solution suggested there that seemed to work for some...

I saw that page.. nothing marked in Device Manager. I did remove the phone and the windows mobile remote adapter and reinstalled them both. Device manager updates appropriately when the phone is plugged in, but it's like active sync is broken. On the pc it will search for like 1 second, then go back to Not Connected, and on the phone I just see the into page in Active Sync "To syncronize your device..."

Darn, I had hoped that was one you hadn't stumbled across yet. The only other suggestion I might have is trying different ports on the PC, or a different cable maybe..? Sometimes when I'm using the cheap cable I keep at work for syncing, I have to reseat it a couple of times before ActiveSync will kick in and make the connection.
God I hate windows. I completely removed WMDC and the update to it, then rebooted. Reinstalled and now it's syncing. Good lord.
ETA: Is there a unix-based tool for syncing WM phones? I am seriously considering reloading this stupid laptop with Ubuntu.
Well hell. It got stuck while syncing, so I stopped it, disconnected and reconnected my phone, and now it's back to not connecting anymore. Grrr.
If its only happening on your work pc...
try disabling firewall and connectiong it... if that works... you will have to open some ports for mobile center(or activesync) to work with firewall turned on...
I didn't have a firewall on it, but god only know what the Enterprise McAfee was doing. I gave up on that stupid Windows load. Installed Ubuntu. It's sad when a non-windows OS is more reliable at talking to my Windows phone than Windows7.
hmm yea thats sad...
Trying to connect my PC to the Internet via EVO's Internet Sharing option, and Windows is prompting me for "Android Drivers".
I obviously don't have internet access on my PC to allow Windows to check for drivers online so I'm screwed.
Does anyone know what this Android Driver is and where I can find it? I could download it from a friends computer if I'd knew.
Nevermind. I got it.
Care to share?
Guess not. xD

Search for HTC Sync
Download
connect phone to computer
choose HTC sync option on phone
Sit back watch drivers install

I think this is for windows xp only as vista/7 should already have the driver.
This guy is a douche. Probably blaming the phone for this too.

I really dont know why for the last two years Microsoft hasn't done anything for this very known issue. It seems they want all of us to use Microsoft My Phone service and put all out private data online.
The problem I am having is the following:
I am plugging my phone to the usb port using the original cable and if it detects the phone it will start syncing ...but this syncing will not actually start. The progress bar does not move.
Initially and for a couple of times after it synced fine. But then I got into this situation.
Of course like most of you know if I delete the partnership and make a new one it will work. But then what is the meaning of collecting data on TP2 when they will be deleted after making a new partnership....so there is no purpose of trying to sync if I have to make new partnerships once a while.
I have been trying aaaaalllllll the solutions mentioned in dozens of forums
ie:
unchecked faster data synchronization
checked if the right services are running
followed this procedure also [TUT] Dummies guide: updating HTC USB Sync Drivers
Checked my firewall settings, also disabled the firewall during sync.
disable third party firewalls and anti viruses
I have windows 7 ultimate 32bit, WMDC latest, and WM 6.5
I wish I could be proven wrong but I am sure that there is no solution to this problem. A 400euro operating system and a 500euro phone can not exchange information.
I have exactly the same problem (TP2 but running x64 windows 7). Did you manage to find any solution? Anybody?

Start > Settings > Connections > USBtoPC
Uncheck "Enable faster data synchronization."
It works just fine for me on W7 Pro x64.
If that still isn't working, consider switching to a different sync option, like BirdieSync and Thunderbird. That's what I use normally. The only caveat is that you need to set up a new partnership each time you flash, which is the same on WMDC anyway, so not really a big deal.

Sorry, I don't have a solution. I'm writing to say that I sync mine all the time with Win7 Pro x64, no problems at all.
I had a problem one time, and deleting the partnerships on the phone fixed it. Note that I do not sync emails or files; I don't use outlook for emails, only contacts and scheduling.
Have you tried doing a hard reset and then syncing the phone before you install anything else on the device?
I switched to 32 bit windows 7 and everything is ok now.
the only sync I can not do is through bluetooth.
the phone is freezing

Perhaps the device itself is failing, then. If you are only able to sync with bluetooth, then it would seem likely that you would have a faulty USB port on the phone. Have you tried doing this with the stock ROM?
Win 7 64 bit
HTC TP2
Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC)
I was just about to ask a question about the same problem, but I see a thread is started already.
I just built a new machine, and when I first plugged the phone in, everything worked great. WMDC recognized the phone, loaded the drivers, and it sync'ed with Outlook 10. Everyone was happy.
The next day when I plugged my phone in, Windows Mobile Device Center does not even recognize that the phone is plugged in. WMDC shows not connected, I don't get the little "ding" when it connects/disconnects, and it doesn't show up as anything under "computer" when I click on the libraries folder.
The ONLY solution I have found is doing a soft reset on my phone. When I do that, it sync's. But as soon as I disconnect it and reconnect it, I get the problem as described above.
I haven't done ANYTHING to try to troubleshoot this problem other than uncheck that box on the phone that allows the phone to fast sync. Any advice appreciated.

Yes I have tried that Im using Vista. Thing is the HTC do come up with progress bar on the phone. Way to weird and frustrating.
Now everthing is connected and its only when the tri colors on phone comes everthing disconnects then the HTC emblem is there showing progress as zero.
When I'm in the WMDC and setting up a partnership should I check any of the options.

Like many others I have not been able to sync my HTC TP2 with my new Windows 7 64 bit computer.
I found a fix that worked for me. After many attempts to sync my phone and WMDC showing me it is connected, but at the same time show an error icon with no explanation, I thought I would do a manual Windows update to ensure I had all the drivers needed. After going to START> CONTROL PANEL> REVIEW YOUR COMPUTERS STATUS....I noticed I had an message that said there was an update for my Pocket PC. I downloaded it and it was an file called "drvupdate-amd64.exe".
I connected my phone by a usb cable to my laptop and selected RUN on the above file after downloading it to my desktop. It showed a status that was updating a generic driver and one other drive.......then WAMO, WMDC opened and my HTC TP2 showed it was connected and started to Sync. YEHAW!
