Hello,
I just can't get updates of the weather plugin in HTC Home over a GPRS or 3G connection (and it remains connected to the network!) even though it works great with WiFi.
Anyone ever faced/solved this issue?
I'm using Faman's 4.0 FR
Thanks in advance

Maybe is better to ask in Faman ROM thread.
Off course someone will be please to help you!
I've the same problem with:
lasagna 2.2.2
lasagna 3.0.5 full
mary 3.3.5
I think that the problem is not in a release but in the plugin, that don't use connection settings.
Bye, Manux
someone can help us??
i've this problem because the GPRS/3g connectione use a proxy server to go in internet.
Bye, Manux
i just update and turn off str8 away
not a problem with me
Hi,
You can deflag the automatic update.... in this case you can update it when you want...
BYE, Bobo
Thanks, but i'm looking for a way to force the plugin to use proxy setting in GPRS/3G/HSPDA connection.
bye, Manu
For what it's worth, I've got the same problem with the original HTC bios on a brand-new HTC-branded TyTN II. Has anybody figured out how to get around this problem?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris, few people use a proxy to go in internet, i believe that we can't solve our problem on HTC weather.
However i've found a solution using SPB weather.
So many thanks.
ManuX
For me it works sometime ! it's very weird because I though at the beginning that it's a proxy server problem but this is not logic since it's working for me right now !
Is it possible to change the network connection for Weather so it doesn't use my proxy access point but another (non proxy) internet connection?

OK, I love my IIs, i've had no problems, bar this one... and it's quite a big problem.
I dont know whats causing it, but every now and then, after the IIs has been running (ie, i haven't given a soft-reset), i cannot call anyone, and no one can call me (or send smses, receive smses).
Its annoying because I dont know when its happen until i try and send an sms.
All I know is that when i try and call someone i just hear 'beep beep beep' and when someone calls me it gets diverted to my voicemail.
A soft reset always fixes it right up - anyone else had this problem??
Here is the reason:
O2 Xda IIs (Optus - Australia)

You should update to:
R 1.06.02
G 1337.32
D 1.31.00 WWE
thankyou!! how exactly do i do that?
Is that the solution? I right now have:
Rom version: 1.22.00 WWE
Rom Date: 10/22/04
Radio version: 1.06.02
Protocol version: 1337.38
ExtRom version: 1.22.169 WWE
Where do I find the other Rom update???
With Rom above I have the same problem as stated before!

Damn I use Pocketnav, which also says it does!! Would that be the problem? But it also happens when I don't close programs for a long time, so even the phone app!!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I was running magic button, and was finding that the phone app was working, and I could connect, but there'd be no audio.
Magicbutton would try to kill the phone app, but would fail. I'm guessing that it left the phone app in a confused state!
Stopping running magicbutton appears to have solved the problem - but I now have the problem that lots of apps are hanging around in memory.
Anyone found a "magicbutton" like solution that coexists with Phone?
Ta,
Nick.
try "my tools" by micro cheng. it's a nice freeware and has been runnimg smoothly on my device for one week now.
Or use SPB Pocket Plus, it has a task closer build in! It is not freeware, but is very great value!
yeah i use that I'm currently just testing it about twice a day.. i expect (unless there's a fault with the ROM) that its some random software i'm running...

Benzo, if it makes you feel any better, I have exactly the same set-up as you. Even the same telco.
What's your list of installed software?
Here's mine:

Birdsoft All-In Hold'Em
SBSH.net PocketWeather

Hope we can track it down!
Could it be task manager of SPB Pocket Plus causing problems too??
i dont *think* its pocket plus, the phone has been running for about 2 days now without a reset and no problems.. i have a weird feeling that it *possibly* is when i activesync via bluetooth? anyone else think that could be a possibility? guess i could trial it tonight after work

I didn't know there WAS a ROM upgrade available?
yeah - check out the second post in this thread.. you can up the radio rom and the regular rom.. apparently it doesn't make a difference to this problem tho... but hey, i haven't had a soft reset in a couple of days and everything is going great!
of course i have no idea how to upgrade my rom... i've searched through the forums but there's no step-by-step guide.. and plus, i dont want to have to re-install everything onto my pda if the rom isn't the problem!
I also have the same problem.

Hello,
i have noticed that windows live ignor my wifi connection and alwayes start establishing gprs but when i cancel it it goes back to wifi and use it instead. how can i make it use wifi as default?
please note that all other application uses wifi when available except windows live (messenger, hotmail, etc...)
thanks.
I don't think you can the official word on the subject is that WiFi drains your battery much faster than gprs and hence it will always use gprs. I just have to remember to turn off the phone before Windows Live.
Its a bit of a pain, but hey, what can you do...
Can anyone enlighten us all?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Strange that. I was always under the impression that turning-off your phone (putting it into flight-mode) renders all radio communication, bluetooth, phone & wi-fi incapable of being used!?!? Never actually tried though, but then what's the point of 'Flight-Mode'?
I would have thought that a registry tweak could resolve this, but I'm not that competent as these things.

i am using Jwrightmcps's wm6 .08 ROM.
I was able to use windows live with Wifi, but after I configured the GPRS, it would not connect with wifi because gprs was off.
I deleted the GPRS and after I was able to sign in but no contacts were shown on messenger.
Still under investigation....

it's not an issue with Jwright's ROM, it's the way Windows Live is configured by M$. If you read any of the WM6 threads, you'll see there is a CAB to disable the GPRS autoconnect. Just click on the attachments of pretty much any WM6 thread and you'll find it.

Did the cab work for you? I was reading and it said that the cab would disable GPRS all together and not just for windows live.
i've tried this on 3 different ROMs now and it's always the same
i'll have my WLAN connected and working fine
but if i use msn live it insists on connecting GPRS and ignores the WLAN altogether
any ideas ?

Yes, most anoying stuff for many of us...
You can get Messenger work over Wifi only if you config the Connections to any unconfigured settings (liek default My ISP before config).

Good luck with that. I dumped WLM because of this and use Pocket messenger instead. Does the job and does not screw up your contacts by syncing with your hotmail account.

Imagine you have just flashed your TyTN, and get connected trough Wifi. You have not configured the GPRS/3G connection yet. In this situation, live messenger works over Wifi. But if messenger detects any GPRS/3G data service available, use it before any other data service. Live Messenger is coded to use GPRS/3G before Wifi.
right, so i need to use pocket messenger then
that's good because i hate the syncing thing it does
thanks for the advice
According to M$, that issue is fixed in the newest version....6.0.6000.16386
and where do we get this latest version from?

Thanks for the information.
However this is still considered a bug since at some point in time you will need to set your GPRS.
GPRS and BT dial-up
The same thing completely occurs to me with some different ROM.
In addition, the line of GPRS and BT dial-up often cuts when suspending
it.

More thah a bug i beleave is a bad design. Take in count MSN Live is made for many PDA, and no all the PDAs have Wifi, so perhaps they forgot to make Wifi as preferred connection for the devices that have Wifi.

Goto CommManager and turn off "Phone" and turn on "WLAN" (so only Wlan is enabled) then sign into MSN (it will force it to use WLAN) and then once youre in, re-enable "Phone" in CommManager! works for me
More of a 'workaround' than a 'it works' though...

Well, Windows Live can be unistalled only if was installed before...if was cooked in, then you can't uninstall.
The best way to have only Pocket messenger is to flash any lite ROM (dopod by edhass, Schaps lite, JJ Black lite, TNT lite.....) that don't include the Windows Live, so you can select what to install on the ROM.

Hello All,
First of all, I'm sorry if I open new thread. I already tried to search similar problem here but could find anything. Btw, I'm still new to Windows Mobile platform.
I've got problem with GPRS.
First GPRS connection is very slow (compared to after Hard reset), and after connected, Internet Explorer shows "Locating..." on status bar. Then message box appears "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again."
All applications also could not access internet via GPRS.
I guess that DNS is not properly configured during connection.
I found two workaround solutions currently:
- Use Work connection, instead of ISP Internet (Setting -> Connection -> Advanced -> Select Network -> "Connect internet using "Work""). This solution is not really stable.
- Hard reset solve the problem. Last option which is very bad.
- Does anybody have similar problem? Does anybody know how to fix?
- How to find like "ipconfig" in Windows?
If somebody knows link / reference with similar problem, please kindly provide it.
I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Best regards,
TwoAce

Hello stormyb,
May I know what is the correlation between GPRS and Wireless LAN?
Do you also have problem with not working ISP Internet connection?
Thanks.
Best regards,
TwoAce
Have you tried to re-run the Network Wizard to see if it will rebuild your settings for you? I've had a few occasions when I've needed to do this, and it sets things straight.
I don't see the correlation between the Wi-Fi and GPRS either, but stormyb might know something we don't.
I get negative result on what stormyb suggested.
Thanks a lot for your input!
SuperSport, I already tried, too before and get negative result.
Thanks for your input.
This is what I did:
1. Remove All Connections setting (both Internet and Work).
2. "Enable Auto Configuration" on Connection Setup
3. Shutdown
4. Turn on and receive notification about empty connection.
5. Create manually Internet setting on Connections (I created manually because Ukraine is not on the list of Connection Setup.
6. Check via Internet Explorer and receive negative result
7. Workaround solution -> Create manually Work setting on Connection and redirect all connection to Work. Works perfectly!
Did I miss something here?
I wonder how to check network configuration (like ipconfig in Windows desktop).
Best regards,
TwoAce

As far as I know, they do the same thing, but Network Wizard is older. I have to use the HTC Network Wizard to get the correct settings for my network. HTC Connection Setup does not work for me. I just checked HTC Network Wizard, and found it has WellCOM listed under Ukraine. Is that your network? If so, you might try installing Network Wizard and see if that helps. It can be uninstalled if it's no good.

I'm with MTS / UMC provider.
My current HTC Connection Setup also has Welcomm listed under Ukraine.

Hi.
Had my TP2 for 3 weeks now and it is an awesome phone apart from trying to use wifi.
When I turn on wifi on my TP2 it finds my wireless network but I have to type my network key each time (v. annoying - any fixes/registry tweaks for this?). Though I get 'connected' when I then open Skyfire, Opera or IE (ensuring they were already closed before turning wifi on) I cannot surf the web. Does anyone know any reason for this and how I can fix it?
When comparing BSSID and MAC settings in wireless LAN on my old TyTN II (wifi worked) to TP2 these settings are different. Shouldn't they be the same and why are they different?
Any further info. I need to provide for anyone to assist me with this?
Thanks.
