It doesn't look like this software works with windows mobile 2003. has anyone tried it?
it does, just soft reset the device everytime you change the skin
How to change the phone skin manually
You can manually change the phone skin by overwriting the following files located on the \Windows folder of the Pocket PC Phone Edition device:
clg_dlrbtn.gif
clg_dlrbtnd.gif
clg_in.gif
clg_miss.gif
clg_out.gif
dlr.gif
dlrclr.gif
dlrclrd.gif
ending_dlrbtn.gif
end_dlrbtn.gif
end_dlrbtnd.gif
hld_dlrbtn.gif
hld_dlrbtnd.gif
snd_dlrbtn.gif
snd_dlrbtnd.gif
spd_dlrbtn.gif
spd_dlrbtnd.gif
spd_lst.gif
Just download a phone skin and copy the above files to your Pocket PC. Then reboot the Pocket PC to activate the new skin.
Re: How to change the phone skin manually
One additional piece of information: there is no .gif for a depressed number button. For unknown reasons, this image is stored as an icon resource inside a DLL.
I made DLLs with that icon for the "Candy Red" and the "Wood and Chrome" DesignLabs skins. These DLLs can be downloaded from http://www.tadzio.com/ppc/skins/TapResCandyRed.dll and http://www.tadzio.com/ppc/skins/TapResWoodAndChrome.dll , respectively. If you wan to create your own, take one of the above as a template, then edit it in a resource editor (VC++ works nicely).
To install such a DLL, copy it to the \Windows directory on your PPC, then change the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone\IcoFil to the name of your DLL, and perform a soft reset.
Have fun!

use a resource editor .. heres the site so you can choose app ..
http://protools.reverse-engineering.net/utilities.htm
i suggest the Borland resource Workshop .. just dont know if it still there .. o compatible with winxpsp2
exescope is also great .. but a shareware
PS always make a backup of a dll .. sometimes .. resource editor causes the dll to be corrupted ..
help!
okay i am using the resource hacker but i cant change anything or edit the image! help!
there has to be an easier way!

hi S1MB4D ..
some of the resouce editor only replaces or added the bitmap or image file use in the dll or exe, and it doesnt entirely create nor edit the image.. like the Resource hacker by Angus Johnson
thats why im suggesting the Borland Resource Workshop since it has that capabilities .. but since www.inprise.com no longer exist .. you can only use a resource editor that has that limitation .. to edit the image u will have to use an image editor like the windows paint or adobe photoshop .. or if it is an icon then an icon editor .. then replace the one included in the dll .. using the resource editor ..
but if you want to edit only the icon in an exe or dll for example the tapres.dll like the one above you can use an icon editor that can extract and automatically replaces the icon included in the dll or exe like in this link ..

I unlocked and flashed my T-Mo Dash with the new HTC WM6. I set all the regional stuff to US English, but something's not quite right with the keyboard.
The '@' symbol key creates a kind of cursivy 'L', I believe it's a British Pound symbol, but I'm not 100% sure. The '=' key creates a sort of capital C with a equal sign through the middle of it.
I use the '@' key a lot, and I can get that symbol now with the '&' key (for which there is no longer a key).
I checked currency settings, regional settings, etc -- and it all looks right, maybe I missed something -- or -- maybe I need to find a registry setting for key mapping?
Place the attached text file into your \Windows\ directory.
Thanks -- tried, but can't seem to delete or rename the original. Tried unselecting the 'read-only' status in the file properties, but it wouldn't allow it. My device is application unlocked...
Hmmm...mine is listed as et9.Excalibur.407.kmap.txt instead of et9.Excalibur.409.kmap.txt and I cannot delete or rename or copy over it either.
edit: I should note that I installed the German rom
Ok, here is how I fixed it with mine.
use regedit and go to:
HKLM/Software/Tegic/eT9/IME/KeyboardLayouFiles and change value 07FF to 0409 from the 0407 in there.
Conceivably you can name the map file posted above to anything and change its value in that key.
GL,
J
Glad you worked it out, but that's not what's going on with my device -- I've looked at both .txt files and the one posted by OutPhase has the correct mappings -- just can't use it (yet)...

change HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\CurLang to 1033 (Dec) 0409 (Hex)

I've already made the CurLang change in the registry, it 'took', but no change in my keyboard mapping.
I've no idea how to 'use a reg editor to move the attached file'... I'm using the registry editor that comes with Resco File Explorer, see nothing in it for file-move operations -- something I don't ever recall as being part of any registry editor, mobile or PC-based. Thanks for trying though...

I didn't say use the Registry editor to move it. Use the normal Resco Explorer to move it. It'll ask to overwrite the existing file.
Thanks, it worked. Not sure why, but I could copy/move and overwrite it with Resco Explorer, but not rename/delete it. It's all working now, thanks!!!

another solution
There was already an "eT9.Excalibur.0409.text" in windows that was in the UK English version of the keyboard. I renamed the attached US version as below and put that in the windows directory. Then I mapped the registry to it.
I like Outphase's solution better -- no registry edit required, once he explained to just copy the file over it's all good now. Thanks though.

keyboard layout files
Hi all
My device is french, but I'd like to use the German keyboard layout.
I can change the contact search keyboard layout but not the layout that's active when writing messages.
As I understand from the above thread, I need the german layout file, eT9.Excalibur.0407.kmap.txt. Can anyone provide me with that one? I don't see a single reference to it.
Any other hints?
Thank you, Michael

Yeah there must be a registry setting some where that enables it. it's not t-mobile dash phone's only. I got a s621 (Rogers) and it worked with all the t-moble ROMs. hopefully somone will figure it out.

wow! how'd you do that?
Well he did it using the Welcome Center. I actually had this done a few days ago, after seeing it done on the Shadow. Here's how mine looks and I also attached a .cab that will let it install on your device. All you have to do to edit it so it shows your apps is go to HKLM/Security/Chome/DefaultSettings/CWelcomeCenter
p.s. I will take requests to modify the .cab to add paths to your specific applications, if you reply with the exact path to the application you want launched and the text you want it to show.
Thanks NRG.
do you mind posting the steps on how to manually change the reg keys here? so that you won't get disturbed
Here's the REG file I'm using. Edit the paths... then save it into a blank Notepad text file... rename to .reg and import it to your device's registry, using your favorite registry editor. OR... just look at it and go edit the registry yourself directly... Here it is:

I noticed that this is a modified version of the menu that I created for the T-Mobile Shadow (http://freddyreyes.com/forums/index.php?topic=285.0)
The only difference is that you added DefaultSettings\CWelcomeCenter to the registry path. In the Shadow you don't need that...interesting.
I may be able to port all the customizations that I created to the new wm6.1 interface.

You can also use the HKLM/Security/Chome/DefaultSettings/Settings. In fact you can duplicate the Settings to some other name and change the contents of both Settings and the new one accordingly.
Change Clock Font
Here's another tip. Copy \Windows\CHome_240x320.cpr to pc. Modify it to your hearts content, fontsize, fontstyle, etc, etc. I changed my clock face to digital, moved the date position, moved the wi-fi position and reduce the pane size smaller (take a look at my avatar).
Should you messed up this file, simply delete i from your device on \Windows. The original will be restored since it is in ROM
Hope this helps. But I really appreciate anyone who can add ElecontWeather to the clock's pane
Thanks

You're right. Only difference is... I didn't work with "CLinks3", like you did it. So I had to use the WelcomeCenter which is kind of useless anyway. Kavana did it with the Settings plugin... I guess there's several ways to do it.

Yeah, Kavana already release a utility that does it for you. I released a .cab that did it, a while ago.. The "JavoZ" cab. Also, rickwyatt included that utility in his latest ROMs.
Hi everyone,
I'm wondering about the differences between these files, since they are both used to modify registry. Well PROVXML files seems to be more powerful with file management.
Which one is better to use ?
Quick:
provxml is not only for change registry.
For file operations too.
And .provxml writes in the registry after .rgu, so if you want to change something for sure, you should use .provxml

Wow this is a very good point you mentionned here ... i did not know in which order the information is written into the registry. Thank you man !
But what about the order these files are dumped into the final registry ... Is it by package name ?
For example, i have in my cooking OEM:
- PACKAGE_Diamond_A
----mxipupdate_A.provxml
- PACKAGE_Diamond_B
----mxipupdate_B.provxml
What will be the result if these two packages write at the same location different value?
Will the value be the A one or B one ?
Saw something like: *_100.provxml, *_200.provxml ...

you can do this yourself
all you need is the TTF file itself
for Manila V3, make two copies
rename one to HelveticaNeue LT 35 Thin.ttf
rename the other to HelveticaNeueOTS.ttf
copy to your device windows folder (overwriting existing)
other manila versions may need some other font name
check your \Windows folder for *.TTF
there should be two Helvetica related names those are the ones to replace
if any of this is confusing, use search and google
good luck
