I had to soft reset my orbit the otherday and since then have been unable to sync with my pc.
I have tried re installing activesync and soft resetting the orbit with no joy. when I select activesync on the orbit I get the message displayed in the attached jpeg.
I would rather not do a hard reset as some of the programs I use (particularly DrugDoses) use a device key for registration which is changed whenever the device is hard reset.
Any help and advice would be appreciated.
Forgot to add, I am using XP pro and my other WM6 device has no problems so the problem must be on the orbit.
ROM: 3.4.206.2 WWE
ROM Date: 8/31/07
Radio: 02.98.90
Protocol: 4.1.13.47
Same problem
I have the same problem since installing B&B 4.3 GER on my device. I should mention that I am using Vista.
Ideas, anybody?
I had the same problem when i was running B&B 4.3 whilst using xp. At first i thought it was a bad connection from the phone to the mini usb cable (as i manange to get connected whilst bending the wire). I managed to get a connection after 2 days of trying. I then reflashed the phone with a different ROM & all was well again. For some reason some people are affected by this whilst others arent. No idea why, but there is a conflict somewhere which was resolved once i changed to a different ROM. Hope this helps. But dont dispair cos you will eventually get a connection & then you can reflash.
On PPC, You could try looking at connections, USB connection and make sure advanced usb is disabled. May help.

I have a Siemens SX66 from Cingular running Mobile 2003 and a laptop running XP SP2, Outlook 2003, and ActiveSync 3.8 and I can't get them to sync. The PC's ActiveSync shows the "Looking for Changes" message and then it shows a quick "Syncronization Error" message and then it goes to "Not Connected". I have been diagnosing this for several weeks with no solution in sight. I have an old IPAQ that syncs just fine with this PC. I have taken the SX66 to two other PC's, both with fresh images and new installs of ActiveSync and get the same thing. I have hard reset the handheld and soft reset it several times. I have switched from the cradle to a direct cable so I could try the serial port. I have checked all of my pst files with scanpst to resolve any errors that existed. It seems a few other people have had an issue that was similar and it seems to have magically resolved itself but mine just keeps hanging around.
I'm just wondering, does it sync okay via wifi? Have you installed any applications that adds to the sync process? Have you tried USB sync from a fresh Hard reset? And last, have you tries older/newer ROM or radio ROM (read wiki for how-to)?
My unit was an SOB when I first got it. Trial and error fixed it and it didn't happen in less than a week.
Have you tried deleting the partnership & then creating a new one?
I have tried to hard reset it several times. I've tried to start the whole process before and after I reloaded saved data to see if my local data was corrupt. I've deleted the partnership. I've uninstalled ActiveSync and reinstalled. I've tried to sync via USB, serial, bluetooth, and infrared. I've also tried the outlook repair tools (inside outlook and the pst report tool outside of it) on the PC. I've even taken it to a totally different PC with a fresh local version of Outlook. Siemens tried to tell me that its because I'm using Outlook 2003 and ActiveSync 3.8 doesn't work with that but that isn't true according to Microsoft's web site. I can't get ActiveSync to work so I can't install any software on it or upgrade/downgrade the ROM. I am running the latest and greatest ROM on the device.
Interestingly, if I set up the partnership as a guest partnership, I can explore the device just fine from my PC so I know that ActiveSync has a good link established.
To me, it looks like the whole ActiveSync chain gets connected and then it tries to read from Outlook on the PC and on the handheld. One or the other of those two things or the exchange of change information down the ActiveSync pipe is what breaks things but there are no diagnostics anywhere to tell me why or what to do about it.
Try to go into AS --> Options and untick all the option in the main box. That will will cause it not to sync with oulook. Maybe there is something in oulook that is keeping it from syncing.
Good suggestion but I've tried that (I just tried it again with a new partnership on a new PC to be sure). It doesn't give me the "Looking for Changes" message but it gives me the "Synchronization Error" message and then goes to "Not Connected". Keep the suggestions coming as something has to make this work.
You have just about tried to sync at the lowest basic level. It the above doesn't work, barrow another sync cable or take the unit to a shop and have them try to sync it with there cable and pc. You have figure out the problem
1. The USB cable/pins
2. The unit itself
3. Your PC or lappy (i doubt it though)
4. while you are there, ask them to test out activesync via wifi if they can
Delete AC from your PC- Reboot - Install AC on your PC, sync will most likely work again.
Had the same problem my self.
Thanks for the suggestion but I've tried that several times already. In fact, I have started from a fresh image on a different PC and get the same issue. Is there a way to do the same thing on the handheld without ActiveSync working? I'd like to remove its ActiveSync and freshen it but I don't know how I'd get a new copy installed since it won't sync.
Don't know how to just Install AC on your BA.
I Would try to Reflash the device with
1) The same Rom -> If it diddn't help
2) A Different Rom
I finally got it to work although I can't believe the solution. If you've gotten this far in the thread I hope that you have an SD card in the phone because that was the whole problem for me. I don't know how it works but if I have my SD card inserted when I connect the phone to the PC, it will error out every time. If I don't have the card in when I connect, it works just fine. Obviously, this appears to be a problem for Siemens to resolve but simply removing the card (as foolish as that sounds) may get you through this issue. Thanks for the assists and I hope that this solution helps someone.
Hi all,
I have a strange problem: bluetooth manager works fine after a soft reset. I can my PPC the whole day and it will always start normally (read: the screen that shows BT shortcuts shows up). The problem occurs when I turn off the phone over night (flight mode). The next day I can't get the BT manager to show the shortcuts screen - BT can be switched on and off but neither the BT manager or the BT settings screen will show up (there is no error message!!!). After I do a soft reset everything starts working...
Has anyone come across this kind of a problem in the past? I couldn't find anything using search on this forum...
My device info is (DutchRetail ROM):
ROM: 1.40.00 WWE
Radio: 1.13.00
Ext ROM: 1.40.556 WWE
I have tried uninstalling almost all extra software that I have installed after a hard reset but the issue is still here.
Thanks for all suggestions on what else I can try.
Hi Poga,
Yep, I get exactly the same problem :-(
AndrewB
ROM (i-Mate) 1.40.00 WWE

ExtROM 1.40.176

Do either of you have Goodlink software on your device?
same problem no goodlink
Same problem but no goodlink software
I also get another funny problem where sometimes I go to connect to my bluetooth access point from my phone and it just has the little pie icon saying it's doing something, then it stops and it hasn't connected (the connection icon stays the same) and I can't make any sort of connection. It then does this everytime I try to connect.
I don't know how i fix it, but I combination of many soft resets various flight mode turn ons and fiddling it eventually works. It's very frustrating and it's happened on every software version. Right now i"m running 2.04.00. I have a CDMA from Telecom NZ running radio HA_01_151 right now (but I've tried other radios).
Somebody else had this problem I noticed but nobody replied to his posts.
I've got the same problem I hope someday that someone makes a fix for it. I run the XDA IIs BlueAngel 1.40.00 Asian O2 ROM WWE. =/.
Same problem here - only solution I had was to go into settings/memory and then stop all programs running - then the bluetooth manager appears without the need for a softboot..
Pain in the arse. :!:

I do and I have the same problem. I've been suspecting that it may have something to do with that because when I reset and I can start the manager just fine before I start Goodlink, but after I start goodlink it's a pain. Once, I tried to start BT manager then it didnt... i forgot all about it then suddenly some 11 hours later it just popped up by itself. Goodlink had been running continuously.
Any ideas???
I sometimes have the same effect.
What I usually do to resolve it (without soft reset):
- I installed PocketNav (kills programs which run in the background)
- I select 'Close all but Ative' in PocketNav
Then the Bluetooth Manager works again.
Hope it helps.

This is due to memory limitation in WM2003SE. When it finds that the memory is not sufficient it wont run Bluetooth Manager or Wifi. I had this problem a lot until i have shifted to WM5 which has more than 100 mb when the device starts. I guess that is why M$ has built WM5 for that reason and also for persisten storage of course.
The "memory limitation" is indirectly the problem. The Goodlink, which is more than three times the memory hog as any other 3rd party app out there, is the direct problem. I could write a college discertation on the amount of bugs in this awful software. And yes, it is good for push email...but at the expense of everything else that is good about these multimedia devices we own. The typical "close-when-you-tap-the-X" software utilities don't shut down Goodlink on my device even though they successfully shut down every other software I own (over 40 titles). So I have to use MemMaid to kill its process. But Goodlink will restore itself in a matter of minutes as it ventures out to the server looking to synch mail, calendar, contacts. If there was ever a reason to bring back public hangings, it would be for the Goodlink windows OS development team.
I don't really see any issues with Goodlink eating my memory. Then again, I've converted from a strictly fun user to a strictly business user so the whole gaming and multimedia thing doesn't quite do it for me anymore.
Steiner,
I tried PocketNav to see if it would truly close GoodApp.exe. Although it does seem to shut the application down, the 6+MB exe still is open in memory. Using MemMaid it shows that it never really closes.
I also didn't have the Goodlink software installed . My solution to the problem was: I installed the Sprite Backup software and set it to automatically restart my PPC @ 6 am after creating a backup. So in a way, this problem was very benifical to me - I now have a fresh backup of all the software every morning and the device reboots every morning without my intervention (no BT errors, no WiFi errors, etc).

Good idea!!!
I've searched through the forums and can't find reference to anyone having problems upgrading due to their PC.
I've upgraded ROMs many times before but the most recent venture on my MDA Pro to WM6 (hemi 1.1) has been unsuccessful.
Basically starting 'ROMUpgradeUt' brings up, 'Device Software Update Utility' then clicking next starts the sofware search for the device but then it shuts down with no error message!
I've noticed other ROMs to give me the same problem now (eg Helmi AKU 3.5).
Tried:removing SD card, removing SIM, 'device upgrade mode'(light, power+reset), unchecking usb connection, hard reset, computer restart (XP),
ActiveSync 4.5 5059 working fine, country id error upgrade, tried another MDA Pro same problem.
I've run out of ideas guys.
PS last time i tried to upgrade to WM6 i got stuck on boot screen and had to use the mtty tool to reboot.
I think you should try an other mashine.
SOLVED !
Universal didn't like the different USB port at the back of the computer i was using. I had connected an external hard drive to 'its' port.
This things more touchy than my wife!

Hi all,
I have been trying to check out the forum here, to try and solve my problem, I literally bought my JASJAR today, and it was giving some wierd behaviour. In an attempt to reload the software (I prefere to reload the entire ROM), something went wrong, now all thats on my screen is "USB" and a lil lower down "v1.01".
ActiveSync obviously not connecting now bcos the OS is not on the JASJAR no more, in my device manager is a "Microsoft USB Sync" under my mobile devices.
I downloaded what I am guessing is WM6, 'JASJAR_WWE_20106_20301_11300_wwe_ship' from another thread in this forum, tried to load that but cant communicate with device cos no activesync.
I have tried the different reset options, like the 2 function keys and the reset on the back, I push 0 to clear, and then it jus goes back to the USB v1.01 thing.
I am running windows vista home basic, with the Windows Mobile Device Center, it synced perfectly with this software, communicated properly with the update tool, until my device reset and activsync lost connection, then i was stuffed.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like it is your first time with the upgrade. What you are seeing on the screen is the bootloader, which is what we use for flashing new ROMs.
ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (how come you have both on Vista?) will therefore not respond. This is fine, because we use a different program to load the new ROMs.
If you look at the folder you downloaded, chances are that there should be a program called "ROMUpgradeUt" or something similar. Provided that you have not changed anything in the folder, you should be able to flash the new ROM by simply following the instructions in the program.
You can also read this link for more information: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
Here is an instruction guide on ROM upgrading: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269118
how come you have both on Vista?
Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I have both, I recently moved to Vista, and am used to calling it activesync and not WMDC.
Thanks, will have a look
Ok, well I have got it up and running again, only problem now is activsync keeps freezing when I try and sync the device...any ideas?
I landed up using my work computer, which has XP on it, and then used MTTY and that connected fine, on Vista it simply didnt wanna work.
I ran the utility for those 'stuck on serial/usb', and that fixed it. Now I would like to load up WM6, but it keeps getting communication failures.
Thanks for the help guys....I got it working...running on WM6 now...whoo!!
Hi everyone!
I have already posted this thread on the Modaco forum but I'm still getting no answer. I'm posting it here. I know there are a few threads about ActiveSync problems but none of them solves my problem!
I'm using an Orange SPV M650 (French branded HTC P3300) for a few monthes now, and I've been successfully syncing it with ActiveSync over Bluetooth from the beginning. At this time, I had created a BT COM port with the Windows Bluetooth stack, configured ActiveSync v4.5 to authorize connections through that port ; then paired my PDAPhone to the computer and checked the "ActiveSync" option that was available in the services listing. I was then able to sync using the ActiveSync application on my PPC.
A few days ago I deleted the USB Bluetooth dongle on my laptop from the "Device manager", it's been installed back successfully on the next reboot BUT now I can't synchronize. The "ActiveSync" service no longer appears in the services list of my computer from the device's BT configuration tool. I only have "Serial port" showing.
Reinstalled ActiveSync twice, didn't changed anything.
What should I do?
Thank you!
(here are a few screenshots, French language used)
Up! Nobody's an idea?
i can only suggest something i do when i have similar problems:
1. uninstall everything involved
2. manually clean up all involved registry keys
sometimes, the remainders of not completely uninstalled programs can cause problems if you install them again.
i never ran into your specific problem, but trying this will at least make you forget your synch problem for the 60mins you are busy.
...and sometimes, above procedure even helps!
I had to reinstall from scratch Windows XP for other reasons and the thing is still not working! I really don't understand, I'm wondering if I'm not doing something wrong... How should I do?
Hey..
Hey found this manual for you..
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/activesync+via+bluetooth?t=anon
Thank you. It's exactly that way that I'm trying! The problem is at step 12, the only service available on my paired computer is a "Serial port", not ActiveSync. I double checked that ActiveSync was properly configured on the correct serial port and it is...
i had this problem with XP, i sorted it out, but cant remembe quite how i did it, i have a feeling it was to do with the COM ports that you use for blueooth. upgraded to Vista and no problems, my suggestion is to go to vista, its much better then XP and everything works.
I have hardware unsupported under Vista (pro-soundcard) and my computer is a little bit too old (512 MB of RAM are fine with XP, won't be with Vista). Anyway I'm okay with XP, I won't change my OS just for an ActiveSync problem.
Anyway I updated my Artemis with the B&B 3.7 WM6 ROM and now it works... Was a problem on the phone I guess.
Thank you for your help
