How do I disable WM6 "Lock" function using regedit? - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

I'm running Meschle's wonderful new Touch 3.0 ROM, however I've installed some MS Exchange messaging software and its forced me to configure & use the "Lock" function within the Settings screen.
Now that its turned on the "Lock" function, its protected the tick box and it won't let me "untick" it to turn it off again.
Can anyone advise of the registry key I need to change (or of any other way) to either unprotect the "tick" box within the Lock option so that I can turn it off again, or to extend the "timeout" values it gives, so that I can have a timeout longer than the current maximum of just 20 minutes....
Thanks,
Graham.

First enable the box again to untick it:
HKLM\Security\Policies\00001023
0 = Enabled; 1 = Disabled
Then install Zenyee.com Stay Unlock.cab and soft reset your device.
This program will prevent the lock to be activated again.

Thanks JR - This will be great if it works....
I've installed it, so time will tell.
Can you tell me how the app works?
My exchange server tries to enforce the security every day and whatever I change in the registry, it resets it to a max 20 min timeout and an min 8 digit PIN (which is a real pain).
I wonder how the two are going to get on on Monday morning....

When I try to change the value on my Touch, it says access denied. Any idea how else to get around it? It's driving me nuts!!

Expand lockout time
Graham,
I've had the same issue's as you did with the exchange time, but i've found the regkey on the device which you can change:
Hklm\comm\security\policy\lassd\ae\{50c1337-...}
here you can change the value to a more "sutable time periode.
Value gives the minutes until lockdown... (normally 15 minutes but if you set it to 1440 you have 24 hours)
Exchange doesn't check this value.
It worked with my device htc P3300 with WM6 and exchange 2007 sp1.
Good Luck

How can i force disconnect umts after check mail??

Hi, i m very happy with the new rom but i have a problem.
I set my emails accounts to periodically (30 minutes) check the account. With other roms when the precess was done then the connection was closed. With the new ROM the UMTS connection keeps stablished and the battery is out in a few hours. Does somebody know how to avoid it??
Thanks...
Same problem here... anybody??
Thanks in advance.
-......and the "always on" is set to 0.....
I am afraid that would undermine the whole definition of Push Mail. So it could very well be that it is impossible.
I remember reading an article about Push Mail and there one of the Microsoft engineers has been talking about that if you use GPRS the battery consumption is much and much less. But hey then whty buy a 3G phone. Also as I understand the GPRS is not able to properly handle the GSM simultaneously. At least I know in QTEK 110S when GPRS is actively downloading data you are unreachable for calls.... UMTS makes that possible.
I suppose it...but now ...
1) I cant automatically check my email (the connection keeps on)
2) I cant automatillally download the weather forecast(the connection keeps on).
......
I cant schedule any application that uses any connection because it keeps on and it drains the battery very quickly.
What can i do?
thanks
the weather program should have a seeting to use an active connection if av ailable. At least I have seen it in some weather programs. And if yours does not have it then get another one.
About other progs that need a connection. If I start IE I can just start browsing and works fine.
About you not being able to automatically check e-mail? I thought you enabled the Push email so what are you talking abouy. It automatically pushes emails to you ?????
ye, yes but what i want is when the program (mail, pocket weather, etc) finishs to use the connection then it is shutted down by the OS.
My job is Windows CE software developer and this is a problem. BEFORE (with old roms) when a program needs a connection the it requests a connection to the Connection manager. Then after use it, the program usually release it (using the connection manager). When no programs needs a connection then the connection manager shutted down the connection (if it was GPRS or UMTS). With the new ROM the connection manager doesnt shut down the connection.....
Yea you are right....
It is the disconnect part.
Well the battery drain is more then.
But hey I am not so bothered because I can load the battery at home in the office and in the car and when I go on vacation I turn the Pushmail offf
semi solved
Hi,
I ve wrote a little C program, 5 Kb. This program monitor any posible GPRS=UMTS connection. If it detects that this connection isnt used in 1 minute(no incoming bytes in one minute) then the connection will be closed.
this program hasnt UI so you will not see anything when you execute it. I will improve it adding a botton icon allowing the set the "one minute" parameter and the posibility to exit it....Obviously the program doesnt run when the device is suspended......
.. it should be placed in \windows\startup folder to run after each reset....
Hi dherrero,
Thanks for posting a great program. I had exactly the same issue as this but your program works perfectly and it disconnects it when the connection is not used for a minute or so.
The only probelm I have now is I equally get disconnected by this program when I am browsing websites with PIE and that is very annoying. I would appreciate it if you could modify this program to make it work only for email checking.
Kind regards,
Hi,
I am improving this little program. it isnt finished but it solves your problem. I recommend you to put it in rom and put a link in windows\starup.
When the system boots you will see a little white-blue icon in the bottom-right.
If you click this icon you will see a screen that show:
1) Bytes received in current connection.
2) Connections that the program has closed.
3) Startup time.
4) Connections checks done. (one each 30 seconds)
5) Last check date
6) Last close date.
And 4 buttons .
1) Disable: It's interesting for you. It disables the action of closing the connections.
2) Enable. The opposite. (by default it is enabled)
3) OK. Hide this screen
4) Close: Close the program.....
I hope it is usefull to you....
You can try also this: http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_wm5pe_en.htm
hi dherrero
from where can I download your prog?
tx for help
You have to login, or register if you havent, and you will see the link.....
Hi dherrero,
Thanks for getting back so promptly. It works nice on my device and now I can manually disable it directly from the Today screen when I need to.
A minor problem I found is that the characters on the Connection Manager control panel get truncated. This is probably due the fact that I have a Japanese ttc font installed to replace the default system font by tweaking the registry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink\".
I hope this helps your development. Thanks again...
Hi again,
I always develop in VGA, using ozVGA. Now i ve changed the positions and now it looks correctly in vga and sevga.
Hi dherrero,
Thanks a lot!
It now runs flawlessly...

thanks any way. but what i want is in a specific time, not a location , i don't want my cell to turn on the wifi when i play with my laptop to drain my battery at home.
i have ur same problem is there any program to turn on the wifi on every 1 hour for 5 min and sync emails and other stuffs right after that???
it would be great if it was able to wake up the device at time interval and:
* turn on wi-fi
* check if there is any free or previously authorized network available
* ability to play an alarm
* update the updatable (or facilities to run/create scripts)
* quit wi-fi
HTC is working on something like push internet..
but lacking of the choice of initiating wifi.

Check PocketZenphone. It used to do a lot with profile settings. I gave up on it a while ago. Still going strong, last time I checked.
I'm searching for the same application.
Personally i just have a good data plan.
This kind of thing is done for me all day long...
You looked at SKScheMa?
I tried it before I had a decent data plan. Turned WiFi on at 7:00 am, then ran Egress Update at 7:01 and turned off WiFi at 7:02. That way I had all the latest road/traffic news ready for when I set off for work!
you can still have this very special functionally with mortscript for free.
the language is very easy and intuitive. give it a try.
try g-profile. I'm using it for some of the tasks that have mentioned.
Hmmm it could be done with a bit of playing about with a profile application such as G Profile, ( http://www.ageye.de/ ) then simply set up a time triggered profile that'll turn on your wi-fi and open the programs you want to up date, then swithes to the normall profile (which has the wi-fi turned off) after half hour or so (possibly once your alarm has gone off. You may have to set the programs you want to be updated to update on connect for it to work but basiclly this should get your device to do what you want, it's just a matter of going through your settings
sorry, but forget the profile solution. it wont work. how do you want to tell g profile or another application that it should click on "update now" or "Send/Receive"? there is no way. all you can do is to launch ONE programm. thats all. you cannot define any behavior.

Help: Tilt 2 clock gets behind, displays incorrect time

I have a Tilt 2 from AT&T running Windows Mobile 6.5. I got it in October.
Sometimes my phone's clock will get behind, displaying a time that is an hour or more off. This morning, for example, I had the phone's alarm set for 9am. I woke up at 10am. When I looked at my phone, the clock displayed 8:30am. I power cycled it and it displayed the correct time.
My apartment has lousy cell reception, and I often have no signal at all when inside. Does this phone/OS rely on the cellular network to know what time it is?
Has anyone experienced similar behavior? Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
I don't think I can trust my phone to wake me up until I find a way to fix this.
Does this happens when syncing Rhodium with pc?
or it happens even without sync?
The phone does rely on the network to keep time updated.
You could always turn off the automatic updating of the time. That may help.
1. Go to: Settings > Personal > Phone > Time Zone
2. Uncheck: Automatic change time zone and clock.
See if that helps.

Clock falls behind, can't find the automatic settings
For the second time now, I experienced the same problem, where my clock on the Tilt 2 was behind. This time it was during the night and it was off by about 3 hours, and even missed the date change. The first time it was something around an hour. I don't know what's worse, because with the long time you know it's wrong when it's light outside and the time says it shouldn't.
The phone wasn't hot either, so, as far as I know it wasn't busy doing something else. The cell reception was fine here, and I was not syncing. To correct the problem, I looked for the setting to automatically set the time, based on the network. It's not off by precisely one or more hours, so it doesn't look like a timezone itself. Note that I have TouchFlo disabled, and I use the Windows 6.5 Today screen, so it might be a bit different. I looked through several settings beside the clock, but can't find it. Unless it's one and the same of course.
Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks for the powercycle tip.
I disabled what prjkthack said, I needed also to disable the sync option from Sense. This works for 'My Location' but screws other world clocks. Looks like a sort of 'base' clock is set wrong...
i have this issue with the tp and the hd2 both with energyrom.
att tilt 2 clock and date off when updated to new stock rom
hi iam having the same problems with my time and date being wrong everytime i softreset. the minutes usually always seem to be right but a couple hours off always and then you have to go in and manually set the clock. i also had to set the date when i softreset. i tried the my location button, didnt work. also called htc and talked to someone who said the time did have to be set manually, but i really dont think he knew what he was talking about. and it should have exact time from network and sat/gpr connections or even wifi? stange
Interesting. It appears that we might be fighting two different problems then. One that is a timezone offset (i.e. the minutes are the same, but the hours are off), and a full stall of the clock (with the time being off a random amount of hours and minutes).
clock advances one hour every night
Hi,
I have a similar problem with my clock: every night the clock advances one hour. If I do not correct the time, it will be two hours in advance after two nights.
This is since the night, where the daylight saving time ended.
Can anyone help?
I've had my phone over 6 months and two days ago it started having issues with keeping the correct time...
Odd indeed.
Maybe it's ATT causing the problem?
Go into Settings/Personal/Phone, then click the GSM/UTMS services tab. Click on "Time Synchronization", then Get Settings. If the "automatic change time zone & clock" box is checked, uncheck it.
That turns off the synchronization of the Tilt2's clock with the cell network, so that you can synch the time yourself. There are some third-party programs that will let you synch off a NTP server or the phone's GPS receiver -- I use Julien Schapman's Time Synchronizer.
It's not a att thing. I have the same problem since last week. I'm in Argentina and a couple of years ago we had daylight saving time. And the last year we had it we must change it on december 27th (the day it started to change in my phone in 2010. Now everytime i activesync with my pc it advaces 1 hour.
It's really annoying. And fyi my setting have disable automatic change timezone and clock!!
I don't know what to do
Cheers and happy new year
Ignacio
I'm in Argentina too, and having the same problem as Ignacio. The only thing I can add is that my Tilt2 started having this problem right after returning from Uruguay, which by the way, they are one hour ahead of us. My girlfriend has the same phone but she did not activate it while in Uruguay and she is not having this problem.
I really doubt it is just a Sync problem. I've tried every possible configuration and nothing. I wish it would be that simple.
We need a good chef for this one...

Fito

Time Sync Fix (CAB)

I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same problem, but my TP2 never syncs time with the cell network. I found its because the registry key HKLM\Drivers\Builtin\RIL\DisableSyncTime, but it keeps getting reset every time I restart the device. I wrote this little app to reset it on startup.

Hi HDR
Thanks for your work on this cab file.
I have a similar problem with another registry entry which helps to govern memory usage in HTC devices. I am currently using the HTC HD2. This is a quote from PPCGeeks:
"HKLM\Software\HTC\ResProxy
"ShareMemSize"
Change this value to zero
ResProxy is HTC's method of "Pre-Caching" your applications on the phone, therefore loading times are faster when opening, etc. It just allocates a chunk of your memory for this feature. Problem is, after about a day of not soft-resetting your phone, your idling at 90% or so.
Changing it to 0 will set this as DYNAMIC. So instead of a bunch of pre-set apps being precached IMMEDIATELY, it does it dynamically. It will only raise the memory for the apps that you are currently using, etc.
Keep in mind, changing this REG does not affect speed in terms of opening applications,etc. Performance stays identical.
You will not notice IMMEDIATELY that this tweak has worked. You will notice later in the way when you notice your device won't idle higher than 65-70% usage anymore, and won't even get as high as 90% unless your running mad software on it lol."
The problem is that the ShareMemSize value reverts to the original entry on soft reset because of an HTC "Auto repair" function.
Would it be possible for you to put a similar cab together, to the one in the original post, but which changes the registry entry as per the PPCGeeks quote?
Thanks
andrew-in-woking
I also have a need for setting a registry entry on every reset. I normally can't even modify the registry entry even if I attempt to unprotect the registry. OP can you pelase elaborate on your method. Thank you.
Here is the complete source code to the program, its nothing special, just the standard C# registry functions. The cab adds the program to the windows startup so it is launched every time the device is reset.
Code:
using System;
using System.Linq;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Windows.Forms;
using System.Threading;
using Microsoft.Win32;
namespace TimeSyncEnable
{
static class Program
{
/// <summary>
/// The main entry point for the application.
/// </summary>
[MTAThread]
static void Main()
{
Thread.Sleep(30000);
RegistryKey key = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("Drivers", true).OpenSubKey("BuiltIn", true).OpenSubKey("RIL", true);
key.SetValue("DisableSyncTime", 0, RegistryValueKind.DWord);
}
}
}
I will make one for the SharedMem key in a couple hours, after my class.
I could not find the cab project files I used to build the first one, but I made an updated EXE that does both keys. Just install using above cab and replace the exe in \Windows witht he one attached
Hello I'm experiencing another problem which is the complete opposite.
When my phone syncs time. its does it wrong no matter what. It ads one hour to its current time for each day that goes by. I found a fix for it.
Go in to Settings>Menu>All settings>Personal>Phone>GSM/UMTS Service, and turn off Time Synchronization.
But every time i restart my phone, this option automatically turns on. So I'm wondering for me, and i know there are others out there, if you could make a cab file for disabling time sync on start up?
I tried the code above but the key goes back to default value. So now the application permanently checks every 60 seconds if the key is 0, if not, it changes it.
The process does not consume processor so it shouldn't impact performance.
Hope this helps

I'm using Sprint Touch Pro2 w/ WM 6.5, and it doesn't have HKLM\Drivers\Builtin\RIL\DisableSyncTime. I do have CDMATimeSyncEnable and CDMATimeZoneSyncEnable, and they are both already set to 1. It has another pair for GSM that are set to 0. However, my phone was off by 4 minutes. I don't know how long it took to get 4 minutes off, but after rebooting the phone, the time is correct. So I still don't have a solution for the drift I'm experiencing.
I do have an HKLM\Software\HTC\ResProxy\ShareMemSize setting and could try that. to save memory.

[FIX] Tasker and the pattern lock

One of the things that I wanted to use Tasker for was enable the pattern lock when I was away from home and then disable it at home. Unfortunately due to recent changes in the Android SDK that is no longer possible with Tasker directly.
With a bit of searching I discovered the Secure Settings plugin which can be installed to /system/app and thereby provide Tasker with the functionality. However, it seems that Secure Settings does not work on the Galaxy S2 because Samsung have their own pattern lock and method of controlling it.
I started doing a bit of digging (mainly using logcat to see what the system was doing when the pattern lock was enabled/disabled via the Location and security settings menu). I discovered that the Samsung lock system is controlled by some files in /efs and with a bit of experimentation I was able to enable/disable the pattern lock via a root shell. I contacted the author of Secure Settings who suggested I use the Locale Execute plugin to run shell commands via Tasker.
So I present here the commands I am now using on my phone and hopefully they will be of some use to others. The commands include a check that should ensure that it does not attempt to enable the pattern lock when no pattern has been set, but this has not been fully tested!
WARNING: These commands require root access and you use them at your own risk!
Make sure to install the Locale Execute plugin first and then to enable the pattern lock with a task simply add a new "Plugin/Execute" action and set the contents to:
Code:
@! if [ "`cat /efs/cryptprop_lockscreen.patterneverchosen`" = "true" ]; then echo -n true > /efs/cryptprop_lock_pattern_autolock; fi
To disable the pattern lock create an Execute action with the following contents:
Code:
@! if [ "`cat /efs/cryptprop_lockscreen.patterneverchosen`" = "true" ]; then echo -n false > /efs/cryptprop_lock_pattern_autolock; fi
These have been tested on rooted stock KE7 firmware.
Enjoy,
Dan

Great!
Is there a way to toggle 2G/3G and GPS via tasker on the galaxy s2?
great thread, thank you!
could you please export your tasker profile and upload it somewhere? i'm a tasker noob
@mljjlm
I'm sorry but this is not a tutorial for Tasker, it simply provides the information necessary to configure your own profiles for toggling the pattern lock. Although the information at the end of this post may prove useful.
@bgx
No idea I'm afraid, I've not had a chance to look into those although I'm pretty sure it's not possible to switch 2G/3G or GPS in the same way that the pattern lock is toggled here.
@js931
My profile is based on location (using the "Cell Near" state) and so will not be much use for anyone else. However I basically configured the following:
Create profile called "Home".
Add a "Cell Near" state and configure for my local towers.
Add a task called "Home" and include the "Execute" action described above for disabling the pattern lock (I also turn off mobile data and turn on wifi here).
Add an exit task called "Away" which includes the "Execute" action to enable the pattern lock (I also turn on mobile data here).
In your code for disabling the pattern, should the code read 'patternneverchosen' rather than 'patterneverchosen' as you have written? I haven't tested, but the spelling seemed odd.
If it's correct, ignore me

It is actually correct (I double checked the first time I tested it out since it was an ambiguous name), it is supposed to be:
pattern-ever-chosen
which is why I check for it being true in my command since we want a pattern to have been set.
Edit:
It has actually been properly tested today, I was away from home and the pattern lock was enabled, when I got back home the pattern lock was disabled.
One thing to be aware of, when setting up the Tasker profile, is that each "Execute" command requires its own root permission, so you have to make sure that these have been allowed before it will work quietly in the background (you should be able to trigger them by testing the task).
It works . Thanks !!!
It works great, however when the Lock Pattern is disabled, I still get the "slide to unlock" type of screen when waking the phone up. Any command for that?
I am running the stock SGS2 ROM (rooted obviously)
Thanks !
I am new to tasker and would like some help/advice
I want to save power a bit so want my gps to only turn on in certain cell tower locations (in order to aid more specific tasks when in those cell locations). my issue is not setting this up, it is in the fact that taskers default gps toggle settings do not work on the sgs2. Can anyone help with this, rather than me having to keep it checking gps all the time (which I have currently delayed to 10 minute checking slots).
Edit: Also not sure if it is me just being dumb, but I cannot see that plugin on that link in the OP..?
Excellent work, do you know if this will work with the original Galaxy S as well?
@julien.me
The slide to unlock keyguard is handled differently to the pattern lock, but you should be able to enable/disable it using Tasker without any hacking. I use Tasker to disable the keyguard when it is plugged in.
@Lennyuk
I mentioned in an earlier post that I have no idea how the 3G or GPS is enabled disabled, but I am fairly sure it cannot be achieved using a method like this.
@m.shafik
The original Galaxy S handles the pattern lock differently so this solution will not work, but the Secure Settings plugin may be of use.

Dan

I used Tasker to do the same thing on my Galaxy S last night coincidentally - only in a somewhat more simplistic way as I am not as technically strong as most people here.
I have a simple Tasker profile that checks my location and if I am at home it executes an action to turn "Keyguard Off". Keyguard is under "Display" in the Action categories. Setting Keyguard to Off disables both the pattern lock and the slide lock.
My case is actually a little more complex because I want to disable the keyguard in two situations, when I am at home or when I am driving in the car. I did this by creating two profiles, the first of which checks to see if the GS is connected to my home wifi, and the second of which checks whether I am connected to my car Bluetooth. If either case is found to be true the relevant profile sets a variable. When the case become untrue (ie. I leave the house or turn the car off) the profile will clear the variable (via an exit action). I then have a third profile that simply turns off the keyguard when the variable is set.
I appreciate that there are probably cleverer and better ways to achieve the objective but I only installed Tasker last night so I am only just lifting the lid.
Hi terranim, I was using your script several days and it worked like a charm, but now I updated to 2.3.4 and it does not work anymore. Any advice ?

I have not gotten around to updating my phone to 2.3.4 yet. As soon as I have I will try to figure out what is going on with my pattern lock hack.

Dan
I'm now running Lite'ning v2.2 and the tasker fix still seems to work.
Which ROM for 2.3.4 have you upgraded to?

I can't get it to work well on my SGS2 2.3.3 stock unrooted. I enabled admin and set Tasker to disable the keylock in a profile (when I'm at home and the wifi ssid is visible). The profile activates but I always get the lock.
And I mean the stock lock screen with the pin (not the pattern one which I read that requires rooting and the method explained in this thread)
