Screen off Cab... - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hi,was using a Vario 2 (hermes) running TNT 2.0/1921 which was very good.It had function called screen off which you could use to turn off the screen and apparently disable all the buttons excepting the power button. This was pretty handy as my video lectures could then run in the background with audio only (no need for the lecturers face). is there any cab available so I could install the same on my newly acquired P3300 pls? Use to use mortplayer but was just too much hassle and the screen-off thing did the same better.I have done a search but its coming up with 30pages of main topics and unfortunately dont have my own or regular internet access. Thanks all....

The search function is a bit retarded here. But you can try searching the forum using google.
Try google for
Code:
"screen off" site:xda-developers.com
answer is at the third search result (clicking on the link at the top, will bring you back to the normal xda-dev forum page). If that doesn't work, there are still a lot more in google.

Hi, there is a Registry tweak you can use that lets media player carry on playing when the device is in "Standby".
I'll see if i can find it...

thank u both...awaiting the second and trying the first. I remember on the hermes it was called "turn off screen"...

sorry cant seem to find it

Ive had this for ages on my i900

HTC Touch Home on my P3600

Hi Guys,
i would like to put on my HTC Trinity the Touch today plugin (like the Kaiser one... with the big clock)..
How i have to do?
here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317932&page=2
a simple search would help you find it, there is not reason to post new threads all the time... next time just try to search the forums, and 99% of the time you will find answers to all your questions...
I just had a look to that thread but i noticed 2 problems:
1. it's in French...
2. it has a bug... every SR i have to disable and enable to make it work.
is there any onther version that works perfectly as on the HTC Touch?
Thanks
what you are talking about is the touchflo and at the moment from what ive read it doesnt work completely on the P3600 as it does on the touch
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313280&highlight=touchflo
n no i'm not talking about the Touch Fluo.... but simply about the today plug in.
Thanks
Search really is your best friend. As the site search isn't the best try this: http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
you WILL find what you're looking for . Search for Kaiser 5 tab or kaiser 6 tab. schen's one is great - I recommend the 5 tab as the profiles tab for the ringer is a bit screwy and slows the Trinity down. Also you can find the colour icons!!
The HTC home plugin can be installed as a cab file (try searching for JUVS HTC Home Plug), however it's buggy installed this way as it was meant to be installed into the rom. There are also several cooked roms you could flash to have this plugin, mine and PDAVIET I know for a fact have this.
If you are running WM5 (you shouldn't be, you're in the wm6 forum) it's extremely buggy, you need the wm5 hacked version of the plugin that's in the developers forum...
Wow, you need to read and search some more. I don't say this to be rude, but you have started 23 new threads on xda....

Actually that hacked 6 tab version appears to have that bug, not the original JUVS home plugin, which if you install the 6tab registry edits seems to work great.
Thanks Shadowmite that's what i want to know... i can use search but all i have found was french version or other with some little bug.
now that i have the info i was serching for (JUVS) i can reallyt make a search.
Thanks, really

keyboard buttons not mapped correctly

I recently unlocked and upgraded my 8525 to wm6 using Black Satin and MRvanx's instructions.. (Thanks to all of you!)
Now the keyboard buttons on the slide out keyboard don't seem to be properly mapped to the symbols.
For example, to type a question mark, I simultaneously press the bottom left key and the "F" key. However a "-" appears instead of "?" appears.
How do I fix this?
Thanks!
You can map them correctly by searching for and installing 8525 keyboard fix .cab. Next time search first. Threads such as this occur approximately every two weeks.
you can also use Schaps AdvConfig and choose the right keyboard layout
Thanks.
I did try searching for it. If you don't know the terms for what you are looking for, its nearly impossible to find. I also didn't realize how good of a job google does searching compared to the forum search. Next time I will use google to search the site.
Hopefully, now another noob will find this thread and know to download
WM VI 8525 Keyboard Patch.CAB from this thread.

Glad you found it. Google is really better for searching the fora than built-in search. Trying to search first can protect you from flame and coarse language here (even though now it is much better than lets say six months ago). I also think that keyboard fix is floating around the hermes wiki (worth reading).

New TP2 user - several queries

Hi, first post here. I finally replaced my 6 year old iPAQ 2210/2215 with an HTC Touch Pro 2 a couple of days ago. I'd appreciate advice on a few points please. Hope it's OK to raise multiple topics like this? I also posted to HTC forum yesterday but so far no replies.
1. I make/receive relatively few mobile phone calls so I prefer to use the TP2 in a rather similar mode to previously. IOW, more as a Pocket PC than a phone. Am I right that the Today screen cannot co-exist simultaneously with TouchFlo3D - it's one or the other?
2. Assuming that's the case, is there some way I can quickly restore the TouchFlo UI when I do need it? Or must I go through Settings > Today > Items and re-check that box (losing all my other checkmarks)?
3. I can get to most of the TouchFlo features anyway from the Today screen. But one at least has defeated me: that nice Weather program, which I like a lot. Any suggestions on how to build a shortcut to it please, even if not with the fancy animation?
4. I'm concerned to maximise battery life. I can turn off WiFi and Blutetooth. Is it possible to turn off GPS when I'm not using it?
5. I've so far not found a built-in backup tool (like iPAQ Backup). Is there one, or must I use a 3rd party tool like Sprite Backup?
6. Is there an executable somewhere on my TP2 that will rotate the screen please? When I add Pocket Plus to my Today screen, that has such a toggle tool under one of its tabs. But, despite having only just paid for Pocket Plus (which I've happily used for years on the 2210/15), I don't think I'm going to get on with this latest version, so I need an alternative rotate tool.
Sorry for what's turned out to be a rather long first post!

1. Completely right, but you can use SecondToday (freeware) as a shortcut to the "old" today screen.
2. See 1
3. Stay with the Today screen in combination with secondtoday
4. No, you cannot turn off the GPS, but what helps a lot is to put the band of the telephone fixed to GPRS, not UMTS/3G/HSDPA. That saves your battery a lot.
5. No there isn't, you must look for Sprite, SPB or sunnysoft backup.
6. Try Flip-it, it works automatically with your Gsensor. Otherwise look for Gyrator or ChangeScreen
Hopes it gets you going
Re backup software. dotfred.net's pimbackup is a handy tool to transfer personal info and can be scheduled.
I am using Second Today.. works great!! love it!! Just like you, can't live without the WM today screen.
Thanks all, appreciate the replies so far. Will try SecondToday. I'm still experimenting with Today plug-ins such as Pocket Plus and PocketBreeze.
I have another query but will post separately about it as it's an application problem.

Just to add.
GPS is turned off all the time unless an application is polling it.
So unless you leave the GPS test,GPSToday, Google Maps, Tomtom, iGo or whatever running, it will be off.

Thanks labbbby, that's good to learn. My main app is Memory-Map, which I use for planning walks (hikes) and recording them etc. On a 6 mile walk the other day I was a bit disappointed to find that my battery was down to about 50%. So extrapolating to a full day's trek (say 12-15 miles) it would be on the limit. Reckon I'll have to invest in a spare.

Try a search on SecondToday for other download sites, maybe you where unfortunate to get a faulty install file...
Hi,
- I would advice you to use TouchFloDetacher, works better than mToday or SecondToday AND it has an easy softkey changer so you can switch easily between TF and Today
- My favorite weatherplugin: WeatherBugDirect_PPC_VGA. Works great but maybe not fancy enough (?)
- Rotators enough: there is a cab somewhere on this forum that does it by changing some reg setting: is better because all the others (i think) are separate programs that need to be running in the background using up mem!
hope this helps a bit ... (still a TP2 beginner myself)

I feel I must correct others:
4.- yes, GPS is switched automatically off when no program listens to the virtual COM port that they see (the driver monitors it), and started when a program connects to it.
It is also switched off in suspend mode, if you would like to log track with PPC "off" - see my program at www.madhacker.org that changes the way the driver behaves.

Ron: Turned out to be down to my stupidity. I tried to execute SecondToday.CAB from my PC! Installed OK of course when done properly from Resco File Explorer on the TP2.
But can you help me get it working please? I first ran the CAB while in TouchFlo mode. Should I then see any evidence of it on the main screen (purple, with large digital clock)? I didn't see anything obvious so went to All Programs. There I found 3 relevant entries:
SToday Quit
SToday Settings
Second Today
I clicked the last and got an empty Today screen, with the left softkey 'Calendar' and no softkey on the right. I clicked that blank area anyway, as I couldn't find anything else, but that gave the error message "This file cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found..."
That mention of a trusted certificate is puzzling. When installing from the PC desktop I've been getting an alert about that and clicking Yes to proceed. But when installing from this SecondToday.CAB that didn't happen.

Thanks Curehead. Not sure if you've seen my reply to Ron about SecondToday, but I'm having the same frustration with TouchFloDetacher! I'm sure it will turn out to be down to some basic mistake on my part.
I ran TFDetacher.CAB in Resco File Explorer while TouchFlo was on. Then, as I couldn't see any more direct way, in All Programs I found 'Hide TouchFlo' and clicked it. That gave me the error message "Unable to find TouchFlo Detacher Service". I also tried re-installing when in Today mode, but got into a similar mess there too.

AlCapone: Many thanks, I've duly installed GPSTweaker.exe which sounds exactly what I need!
If I've understood correctly this means that while using Memory-Map to record my walks I will be able to switch off (suspend) my TP2 to minimise use of the battery, yes? But I'm not clear how Mem-Map will still be tracking while the TP2 is suspended? Unless it does, there's not much point keeping GPS running?

Ron,
I started with Gyrator but I'm totally baffled as to how to set it up. I read earlier in an article about it something to the effect that "Install the MS.NET stuff and the CAB and it just works." Not here it doesn't.
After reset I got a sort of setup screen I didn't really follow so I opened the 'Events' window only to get a complex settings window that meant nothing to me. I'm not normally this dense! Is it meant to be understandable by mere end users rather than programmers/developers?
Is there a reasonably simple step-by-step on how to set it up you can point me to please?
I was hoping for a program that would simply install itself and then either automatically rotate every screen or let me do so at the tap of a command.
I'll try Flip-It now.
Edit:
Gave up on Gyrator and didn't try Flip It following further study. But instead I'm pleased to report that late last night I eventually got ChangeScreen working. The only one I found comprehensible!
BTW, its default was set not to rotate TouchFlo screens, so I had to change that. Why would that not be generally regarded as desirable please?

Key Remapping without AEBPlus

I had a fairly simple desire to map in a hotkey to enable and disable wifi with a single press-- I'm using the current 3VO 6.5 ROM. I'd located the Wireless Toggle utility, but now I need to attach it to a key. I didn't want to use the T-zones key by redirecting the Short_IE.lnk, because I find Celetask very useful there. I assume I could redirect the camera with Short_Camera, but I kind of like having this there too. The AEBPlus utility seems like overkill-- I only want to redirect one key, and I'm a little intimidated by the "oops I can't use my dash anymore" potential from mismapping some keys.
The solution I wanted to come up with is mapping an Alt value to the T-Zones or Mail key, or possibly redirecting the Mail key. However when I look at the et9 keyboard mapping file, I see that these keys aren't even in it from what I can see. I guess they are different from the other keys, and so I'm not sure I have the capacity to add an Alt value. So these are my questions:
- Is there some integrated way to assign Alt values to the Tzones and Mail keys without AEBPlus or another utility?
- Is tmail.lnk the shortcut that controls the Mail key? Are there other shortcuts that also are involved?
Sorry if this has been answered before. I tried to search on this, but maybe I just wasn't coming up with the right search string.
Thanks,
Gnat
Well, I take little pride in having stumped the forum-- at least I didn't get a "learn to search" response.
In the end I have solved the problem by using Chome Configuration to remap the second softkey for the Wireless Manager option under Settings from "All Settings" to "Wireless Toggle". This spares me from having to open HTC Communication Manager and scrolling around to enable wifi-- a pretty significant improvement for me.
Thanks,
Gnat
Glad you worked it out and didn't get use the search as it's not an answered question not many people use AEButton on smartphone and defo not in sticky
If you want a guide still of how to use AEButton i could run you off some screenys to demonstrate as it's an amzing bit of kit.

Don't know if you are still reading this, but if you know of a tutorial or guide to AEB, please share it.
I'm trying out the app right now, but find it extremely difficult to figure out, how to use it. And the author included no guide nor help file with the app. And his web page doesn't tell you how to use it.
One other concern--it seems to slow down the device a whole lot!

New to the Touch Pro2

Hello,
I just got my TP2 in the mail, and already lovin' it.
But ive got a few questions.
Are there any updates that are a "MUST HAVE" on this phone?
Rom is 1.88.404.3 (67102) NLD
WM 6.5 5.2.21854
Already got the NoData installed.
Wich Nav program can is use, that is free? I hate TomTom, rather have NavnGo or sumthing.
And i want to watch videos on Vimeo, but can't due to a flashplayer bug?
Tnx!
HD Tweak also has the option to shutoff the data connection (keeps WiFi on) similar to NoData. But also has a ton of other tweaking options. I tried it on a recent foreign trip (to shutoff the data), and it works great. It works perfectly for me so far, despite being intended for Touch HD.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452505
Google Maps and MS Bing work great for navigation, and are free. But they only work when you have a data connection (maps are streamed, not stored). I personally don't use a nav program with stored maps, so I don't have an opinion on that. But there are plenty of discussions on nav programs on this forum, if you use the search function.
The following threads are great places to start for software and tweaks:

Don't have the Menu option in the Personal Tab??
You need to put on HDTweak, HTCManiacs Clean Ram, and I personally love Dynamic+'s NoDatainRoaming. It turns off data when you hit roaming situation and turns it back on automatically when you get back in your local area. These are all free here on XDA.
