Could somebody tell me how to remove extrom and have a maximum free memory. I saw pagepool size too, is it easy to set?
Thank you for your answer.
for pagepool changes, look here

Hi folks and greetings from Bulgaria.
I wondering are is possible some one to tell me how to increase avaliable RAM in my HTC Universal, because I used a new Garmin Mobile XT beta navigation software and he's like RAM eating machine.
Right now I'm with Helmi AKU3.3/ver 1.1 ROM - and I'm realy impressed from that ROM, but unfortunately after clean install my free RAM goes to 23.7 MB and this is not enough for Garmin XT - every time when a need to start application I must Restart.
Is it possible to edit Helmi's ROM and remove Page pool size in order to release more RAM ?
Thanks in advanced

You can definitely edit Helmi's ROM to increase or decrease the pagepool size. But based on my experiments, decreasing the pagepool size also decreases the speed, and yes you are right, it will increase the available memory for the apps to use, but you are scrificing the speed applications run. You can definitely decrease it to as slow as a turtle's running speed, if you know what I mean.

Yeap I know exactly what this mean.
So is there some other trick to release a 2-3 MB ermanently?
I use SKtools to optimize my Universal, but I've managed to release no more than 500kb.

I too have problems with memory, which led me to experiment more on some free apps out there. This is a personal trick I just recently learned from all the AKU 3 versions that are coming out that I have been trying out that I would like to share with you and everyone.
I will attach OXIOS Memory CAB file below my post, you need both Oxios Hibernate and Oxios Close Apps for this trick to work.
This is the theory for the increase of memory: basically what I wanted to happen is to only have 1 application running in the background no matter what. Thus, opening another app automatically closes the other app, even just pressing the OK button. Just like what a Palm device does with regards to application handling.
One draw back though, you are eliminating the ability of the WM5 device to run multiple applications at the same time.
OK enough of the explanations, here is what you have to do:
1st: Download the copy of OXIOS apps I provided.
2nd: Run the CAB file to install.
3rd: Go to Windows>Start Menu>Programs>Accessories.
4th: Copy the shortcuts for both Oxios Close Apps and Oxios Hibernate.
5th: Go to Windows>Start Up.
6th: Paste both Oxios Close Apps and Oxios Hibernate.
7th: Perform a soft reset.
Basically this would make WM5 behave like a palm device. You can now only open one application at one time, thus ensuring you have enough memory for your current application to run.
You don't even need to close any app anymore manually, since it is done automatically for you now.
There are some exceptions to this however and they are:
1: Contacts Application
2: MMS Application
3: Calendar Application
4: Phone Application
These 4 apps can be opened all at the same time without closing automatically, a good thing because you want them to work together when sending messages or files. Plus, you also want the phone on at all times.
Good luck and let me know if you prefer this solution or suggestion.

10x Man - I'll inform you about the results
I've another thing in my head:
Actualy I was with Radio ROM 1.09 and there I was have only 21MB free after fresh install - after upgrading to Radio 1.13 free memory was 23-24 MB - now I see that is new radio ROM 1.14.10 on FTP - when I tryed I'll inform you about results
I question:
I always have about 70 megs of free storage memory. I don't use it, since I install on the 4gig flash (it's faster I feel, read/write speeds are faster too).
Anyway, is it technically possible to get 50 Mb of storage to be used as program memory.
Like in magician, one could move the slider.
I think that WM 6.1 automatically adjusts the memory, maybe this is why there is no slider. Maybe a registry edit is needed?
No further idea on this?
Hi everyone,
After a Soft-Reset with TF3D disabled this is what I get:
Program Memory
Total: 107.71 MB
In use: 56.13 MB
Free: 51.58 MB
I am using the EnergyROM for my Touch Diamondm build date July, 22nd.
The HTC Task-Manager shows the following Processes:
HTC Task-Manager said:
gwes.exe --- 11565kb Memory Usage
device.exe --- 3137kb Memory Usage
shell32.exe --- 1749kb Memory Usage
filesys.exe --- 1598kb Memory Usage
services.exe --- 1445kb Memory Usage
cprog.exe --- 822kb Memory Usage
dotTaskMgr.exe --- 96kb Memory Usage
connmgr.exe --- 88kb Memory Usage
NK.exe --- 1kb Memory Usage

All of these running Processes are using added together 20,541 MB of RAM.
But remember what Windows Mobile said:
Memory in Use: 56,13 MB.
Less the 20,541 MB, which the running Processes are using, there are 35,589 MB, which are reservated or used, but not by running Processes. So my question is:
Who uses the 35,589 MB of RAM, without being shown in the Task-Manager?
Maybe some of you guys knows the Answer
Greets,
Felix
Its the ROM itself which is loaded in the RAM (i guess)..
i also want to konw
Services and things are also loaded into the RAM. There are more than just those processes running. And along with those processes are the images and extra files they use etc which are also loaded in the RAM.
For example the phone canvas - It runs off cprog.exe which says it only takes up 822kb of RAM when in reality it uses up about 8-10MB because of all the images it has to load.
Not to mention the page pool - If the chef runs a higher pagepool then you're RAM usage is going to be higher on boot.
OK, thanks. Is it possible to view the running services and deactivate some of them?

Yes use dotfred's taskmanager. You can then view the services.
If you really want to save a sizeable chunk of RAM. Disable the HTC dialer and enable the Windows default one. You'll get about 10% back.
allready did that
felix you mean Kb not Mb. 20,000Mb = 20Gb and the phone cannot have that much!
, stands for 20MB and 541 KB
We dont use . or , to show "1000s" here.
we use it to show post decimal positions

How do you do that?
I also had a go with this version of EnergyROM but gave it up for now due to a lack of memory. When closing apps etc. the memory was never freed back up. I also found TomTom had problems after running for a little while. If there is an answer to this, I would switch back as it's the nicest ROM i've tried to date.
How can i see the detail of rom/ram & cpu in my htc hero
I wan to know whether my htc hero is prefect or not!
So i want to see the detail of rom/ram & cpu in my htc hero, but i did not see it. So how can i do?
the same about up
I just want to see the hardware detail in htc hero.
I understand the difference between program and storage memory. If the program memory is finite, why does the total Program memory chage when I load a new ROM? I thought flashing a new ROM loaded it into storage since the other is volitile.
I saw this post, but it doesn't tell me how the cooks can tweak program memory. Thanks.

Well it's a bit complicated why, but I'll try to summarize it. There's something called the Pagepool, which can vary greatly in size (in megabytes), but its job is equivalent to a cache in a hard drive. The pagepool constantly sits in RAM, and the device will ignore the pagepool when detecting total RAM, as it can't be used at all. The size of the pagepool can be anywhere from dynamic (as much as it needs) to a huge unnecessary number (like 64).
For example, the pagepool on EnergyROM is ~26 megabytes, but the pagepool on Twopumpchump's ROM is ~15MB (I made that # up for this example). If you go to the memory applet, you'll find that EnergyROM should have less RAM then Twopumpchump's even though it could be faster. There might be a few other reasons that RAM could be different between ROMs, but that would probably be the biggest one.
You might also want to check out this article if you're still curious about this stuff.
I just recently got my TP2 in the mail yesterday am I'm new to everything especially window mobile phones. It says that the TP2 has 512 MB ROM and 288 MB RAM but when I check my memory settings it says:
Storage:
Total 285.44MB
In use:52.77MB
Free:232.67MB
Program
Total:188.21MB
In use 89.37MB
Free:98.84
Someone told me that this is right and that the rest of the memory was hidden memory can someone confirm that for me? Thanks!
Welcome to forums
That is correct
The important is the free RAM you have and that will depend in what ROM are you using, as some of them take a lot of RAM and some others leaveyou with more space.
To give you an idea, I´m running Energy ROM and I have free RAM of 60-80Mb
and before I had a clean ROM with no manila and I got 90-110Mb free.
Hope it helped,
And don't forget to vote!
Yeah, quite a lot of that memory is part of the baseband (so it can't be used as regular RAM), a lot more is part of the pagepool (a program memory cache), some by the radio stack, some by the frame buffer and some by the XIP (kernel), so that 288MB of RAM turns out to be much less for practical uses. If you're interested in learning more about how RAM is used in Windows Mobile, this MSDN article helps explain things a bit.
