New to Modding Can't Get .cab files to load - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi,
I am very new to modding phones and such. I have an unlocked dash and I am trying to install programs like the jogger modify. When I download the zip it gives me an xml file and cab files but I can't seem to figure out how to get this installed. When i try to open the files on the phone it tells me that i need to run that file with the program. I am going nuts. I am running WM6 T-mobile rom. I hope you can be patient and walk me through this.
Thanks

I cannot seem to be able to load that file. I can only Explore on my 8125. I can extract the .cab file to my desktop and I can copy the unextracted .cab file to the 8125 (or the extracted files) but I cannot install the program.
Any suggestions?
Copy the .cab file to your device and run it there. I don't think you need to extract it first before copying it over.
Better still here is an explanation of what you would be doing and why.

Need help extracting gwes

Hey all,
I am trying to change the wait symbol animation on my PPC, and have read up on it, but all the directions say I need to copy the gwes.exe.0409.mui from the windows folder, modify it, and overwrite the old one with the modified. Unfortunately, I can't even copy it out of the windows folder. Seems like no one can get it to work very well.

Does anyone know how I can copy and then overwrite the file?
Come on, I know someone here must know how to do this.
use a program like gsfinder+
Hey Sleuth,
I've tried using GSFinder+ and Resco File Explorer. On both programs, it will let me use the copy command, but when I try to paste it in another folder it says that the file cannot be copied. Any ideas?
Basically, I'm hoping there's an easier way to get at the file than dumping the whole ROM.
Same problem here, any ideas?

cant install cab files on my wing

can anyone help me out here??? im trying to install the battery status cab for my wing but when i open it all it does link me to an internet page with the codes and doesnt actually boot an install
anyone know what im doing wrong???
The trick with .cab files is to open them on your DEVICE, not your computer.
Use activesync to connect to your Wing, then go to My Computer.
There should be an icon that says "mobile device". Click on that. Drag the .cab file to a place on the device that is easy to remember. Then go to the location of your Wing and open it simply by clicking (tapping) it.
No offense, but if you don't know this, you shouldn't Overclocking yet.
no i see what your saying, look this is what i did i downloaded the file extracted it with rar then put the files into their own folder on my storage card and i tried tapping it but it just brings up that stupid web page, i know alot about the phone and ive overclocked others before i just cant get this stupid cab to work
wow never mind i didnt know you werent supposed to extract the file ha i feel like an idiot

Where do I put the .cab's that I want to be autoinstalled on custom ROM?

I'm a little new to this but I'm not TOTALLY new. I've flashed other people's ROMS before but never have I done my own. I've downloaded everything that the creator of "Pandora Naked 9b1 w/Big Storage - WM6.1" stated that I would need. But where do I put the cabs that I would like to be installed automatically? Also, if one of my desired programs is a .exe file that I have to install off of my computer, can this be automated somehow or will that have to be done old fashion way -- by me? Thanks for any help you can provide and I'm sorry if this is the wrong thread to post this issue in...
the cabs can be automatically installed if you put them on the root of your storage card the create a config.txt to instruct it to install them do so. it will then install them like the ext rom when you turn on for the first time
Actually you'll want to name the file SDConfig.txt
Search the kitchen for a file called "PreConfig.txt"
Hopefully that get's you pointed in the right direction.

Help on extracting a Hotfix.

I was wondering if someone could give me some direction, cause I have been trying and havent found a way yet. I am trying to extract a HTC hotfix from their site on my computer. I can extract the hotfix into a folder, but its in 8.3 filename format, I am trying to extract it so that I can cab it up and try installing it in my spare tp2.
And to answer the question, its not for the TP2 thats why I cant run it on the TP2, my problem is I am trying to extract it, and then make it a cab with WinCE Cab so that the registry settings get implimented and files get copied to the right location.
Any help would be appreciated, been looking all day to make this work
Can you provide a URL to the hotfix, so others (such as myself) can have a try at this?
Its the sms hotfix from htc dated 1.28.2010 for the HD2, But that still doesnt answer my question of how to extract this exe file to make a cab and try it. Seppi had done it to an older version which helped a bit with the issue but its not this new version which I am willing to try since the older version did work and did improve the sms somewhat. What I need is to be able to extract the exe with long file name, everytime I extract it it extracts with the short filename.
