I just realized that my battery life kinda sucks. I'm down to one day with moderate use.
Had a full charge about 7am, brightness is one from lowest setting, used Live search for about 10min at lunch and IE at the same time, listened to the radio for about an hour, made 3 phone calls for a total of about 25min worth of talk time - 2 of which were using BT (only had BT on when I was in the car). I'm home now and I'm at 33%.
Maybe it was the radio. Other than that, the phones been sitting for most of the day. How about others?
What Radio version are you using
Hi,
What is the Radio version you are using it depends mainly on them some versions it drain the battery I've tried a couple of days a new Radio version 1.54 it is a lot better and I found the battery can stay for about two days average use compaired to the previous Radio version, I have a TyTn HTC is going ok with this settings.

Thanx for the link. I missed that post. I guess I just run USPL first, then this? My last ROM upgrade had the USPL prog included in it. Is there a link for just the USPL or do I need to run that at all?
If your spl is 1.11.0000 you don't need to run it again.

Thanx but I just ran SPL anyway, and updated the radio. Everything went well.
After running USPL, I had the problem again with the slow scrolling that I posted about before. Everthing was just running really slow. Then, after I upgraded the radio, it was fast again. (I have no idea why this happens) THen I turned on the phone and TomTom (without Quick GPS) and got 3 to 4 sats in my house for the first time in like 1min. That was the fastest ever. Does this radio version improve GPS as well or is this just a coincidence? However, I'm just happy that I don't have to hard reset again. Will test the battery life tomorrow. Thanx.
BTW: Where do you look to see the SPL version on the phone?
Maybe a coincidence - spl on first splash screen
I haven't noticed any differences. My radio version is 2.98.90, I don't know if it was that to start with or it came with the B&B 4.2 upgrade. I get about 1.5 days with moderate to heavy use, and just about 2 days max.
how do you install this?
hi guys!
Same problem with Battery life on Artemis with WM6!
with WM5, i sure got 2-3 days. and now its just upto one day. By evening my battery is down to 15-30%.
I have tried draining the battery completely and then charging it all night, but this doesnt improve battery life either.
I am using Radio 2.98.90
Hello,
my radio version is 2.98.90 too, and at home, I haven't a really good GSM-receipt (I hope, you'll understand me, my English is terrible). That's the reason why my battery time is really short. Try to disable the GSM and look, if your runtime is much longer.

Looks like my battery life has improved a little. After 8hrs of medium use, I still had 69% batt life. Pretty good. But I also have to report two incidences where I could not answer a call or make a call- reset needed. Got a message saying that the signal may not be avail and I had a full signal?! This has never happened before this radio upgrade. Any reports of this from others?
Other than that, everything else seems fine. May try to reflash later on if I still have this problem, but if it still persists, I'll look for another radio. Not being able to answer calls is a real PIA in business if you know what I mean.
i just tried removing battery status from the today screen and my battery life is good again.... could this be a problem then?
so what is the verdict here? i had a mda compact 2 and the bateyr lasted 5-6 days of FULL use
i upgraded to mda compact 3 and stragight away put wm6 cooked roms on it - ive tried most of them on here including the official wm6 - all seem to only give me about a day batteyr life????
something cant be right here? after half a day im down to 47% odd
Phones should surely last 2/3 days? especially a Mda/Pda???
what is it that drains a battery? is it the programs running, installed ????
ive just installed wm5 again to see if its any better, could i have possibly burnt out my batteyr by cooking so many Roms on it??
someone help as this is driving me crazy!
Battery life is good. With GPS and 234Mhz 6hours.

I'm still testing but so far, after upgrading my radio to 2.98.90, I'm at 74% by the end of the day with moderate use. I'm trying to keep the same ROM and not hard reset for a while to see if it improves more (I like to drain the battery to the end and then recharge) . So, I'm at like 2 days with the new radio. This is sufficient for me since I keep a charger around anyway.
Battery life ist around 6-8 days!
Plain WM6 (from o2) firmware with BatteryStatus, Calendar+ on today screen. Bluetooth and WLAN off, some SMS a week, around 5-10 minutes telephone calls a week. Using calendar and contacts regularly some times a day. Using Tomeraider, iSilo, Mobipocket, TomTom/NoniGPSPlot, etc. some times a week. No other system utilities beside BatteryStatus installed!
Surfing over WLAN: battery is empty after 2-3 hours.
I have no problems
Regards,
Manuel
PS: Background light is faulty since last week: background light is completely off on setting 1+2, sometimes even on setting 3, and it flickers permanently. Xda Orbit goes back to o2 next week.
pending programs
Hi,
if you have a battery drain problem you should check your programs first. There are some which really cause high consumption in the background...
so anyone complaining should list his installed progs!

Hi everybody,
the aim of this post is to clarify if there is a direct relationship between WM5 original ROMs and WM6 cooked ROMs.
I have read different posts from users asking about the different behavior of the battery performance after installing WM6. In general, it seems that each user has a different experience about the battery life.
Is it possible? Depend on th Radio version?
I report my experience:
- Original WM5 - Radio 1.27 --> average life 55 hrs.
- LSVW 15/3 WM6 - Radio 1.34 --> average life 39 hrs.
- Black 2.0 WM6 - Radio 1.34 --> average life 33 hrs.
(these values are obtained with the same usage of the HERMES applications: in terms of GSM calls, BT connections, and usage of the installed software. Of course, it is not important the absolute values in hours between two consecutive recharges, but it is important to note the trend: the battery life is halved! )
I would like to know the comment from the expert users: is related to WM6 ROMs? Depends also on the Radio version? Any suggestions ...
Thanks in advance for any replies from you about this topic.
I hope that this post could be useful to clarify this point and to better explain if there is some relationship between WM5 and WM6 on the battery consumption.

WM6 ROM: Black 2.0
Radio: 1.34
Those numbers seem low to me... I've had the opposite experience. When I had the stock 8525 from Cingular, I could only manage about 36 hours on it. The leaked Cingular AKU 3 build gave me about 42~44 hours. WM6 builds using Radio 1.34 gave me just under 48 hours. Radio 1.38 was a step backwards in giving me just under 20 hours of battery life. So far with the new Cingular radio, I am still going on my last charge from Saturday morning, so easily 60+ hours (I'm at 30% charge left now).
I'm always on 3G and have direct push pushing about 200 emails a day. My voice calls only total my 20 minutes a day with bluetooth on continuously.
Much depends on your signal strength - I have full strength at work and at home. Another person I know who has the 8525 and only half strength signals has their battery life cut by 40%...
Batt Life
I switched over from the generic Cingular radio rom (acquired the device back in beginning of Dec 06) to Black 2.0 with the latest and greatest radio rom. I have to say... My batt life trebled with this new configuration on 3g. Used to be that just a couple of phone calls with push mail, and my battery would be pretty low after 3-4 hours. Sorry that I can't be more specific, but I am loving the new config.

i went to 1.4...i have terrible battery life...any suggestions?
maybe a bit more info might help...1.4 radio...lslw...3/24 the newest one...running im+...thats it...batt runs out in like 4 hours
please buy a new battery
With Black 2 and 1.35.00.11 my battery life is better than wm5 (about 30%)with an old Vodafone (primitive) radio...
EDIT
with wm5 and old radio about 25/30 hrs (used only like a hard GPRS modem pc. Continue connection: 4hrs)
wm6 black 2 radio 1.35.00.11 about 40 hrs (used only like a hard GPRS modem pc. Continue connection now about 5 hrs)
I use Black v2.0, 3G email and bluetooth a couple of hours a day, not much calls, and my battery won't make it through the day...
I get around 6-8 hrs this way, and before Black (WM5 Tytn, default ROM's) it was even worse...
Guess that's not right
edit: It appears that I'm not the only one having these problems. Guess it's kinda odd that some ppl have 40+ hrs, and some others 4+ with the same device. Any ideas on this one?
i have the same problem too, with the newest lvsw an black roms.
no problem with latest htc wwe rom.

I have the same problem when I run IM+, that program seems to destroy my battery in a few hours. If I don't use it, I can get a couple of days out of my battery with maybe 20 or so texts a day,e-mail being checked every 15 min, some light internet browsing, and maybe 20 minutes of phone usage.
Upgrading to the 1.40.30 radio seems to have helped helped a lot. I used to have to charge daily on 1.38 and 1.34. Now it is every two, or so.

I don't use im+ personally but I know a few people who do and it can drain the battery.
I recently upgraded to the 1.4 radio (using lvsw 4/8) and that improved my battery. What REALLY helped though was removing the a2dp.exe from the start-up. This is a utility that may help a2dp quality. i personally have not experienced the a2dp issues that some have so this utility didn't do much in my case- and the battery life is much better now. if you are using lvsw 3/24 though, i think this utility was not included yet.
I am a med to heavy user- 2 hours .wma playback a day over stereo bluetooth. bluetooth always on. 1 hour or so web usage and emails all day. My battery used to die at around 7:00pm but now it will last through the day with 20% to go before i turn in at 10:30ish.
If you are going to benchmark the OS only with repsect to battery life, ensure you have the SAME radio in both WM5 and WM6 varients because the RADIO rom does impact battery consumption.

Hi Jasjamming,
thanks for your reply, and compliment for the BLACK 2.0 ROM!
I'm very happy of this ROM: fast and stable
About the battery, do you have some suggestions on the RADIO?
For instance, the two WM6 ROMs, which I have tested, were with the same RADIO (1.34), but I have noticed some performance degradation ...
In your experience, increasing the RADIO version, the battery life is improved?
Otherwise, I will try to come back to older RADIO version.

Bit of a Trick Question
There are so many things that effect batt life. Everyone will use their devices differently for different purposes. So its really hard to properly survey this.
My original WM5 rom n radio gave me about a day and half down to less than a day depending on the amount and length of calls. Also wifi usage dramatically decreased batt life.
My current config of BE 2.0 and Radio 1.40 gives me 2 days of juice but again if I make alot of calls it can still be drained in a day. Use wifi a few times as well and it will be charging in under 8 hours. I have bluetooth on permanently.
If you really want long batt life lend your hermes to your mum or grandfather.
You may not even notice
It's really hard to pinpoint what affects battery life, but keep in mind that if you are in an area with low reception, your battery will drain faster. And if you are in areas with 3G/HSDPA avialability, the same goes, even if you don't receive any calls. So depending on where you are in a day, and how you move about, your radio will have to work more or less, which means the only sensible measurement is to measure average battery life for say a month with WM5, then another month with WM6.
Personally I have a feeling that I get better battery life with never radio and WM6, but I am fairly certain the main issue is the radio, not the OS (I was in flight mode a lot last week while travelling, and got fantastic battery life even when using heavily, constantly reading and listening to music).

That's what I experience as well. In flight mode, my battery drains about 10% in 8 hours, and (as I posted above) while the radio is turned on, it's down to zero in the same amount of time. I live in an area with HSDPA coverage, but also have the 1.38 radio. So while that is one of the latest radio's, my battery life is horrible.
K-Mile
Have your tried switching your band to gsm instead of Auto?
This doubled my battery life.
I now only turn on High speed if and when I need it. Rest of the time am quite happy with lower speed.
Another important factor that drains battery is your mobile operator - different operators implement it differently - eg in Japan, on NTT Docomo/Softbank networks my x01ht's battery's life was excellent. In Malaysia, under Maxis it sucks. So this comparison doesn't really hold. You can only compare if i you're on :
1. same ROM
2. same radio
3. same network (!)
Last week i went from radio 1.38.00.11 to 1.40.00.30 and i have noticed a huge increase in battery life. Im sure its lasting at least twice as long on 40 as it was on 38! Not installed anything new since changing the radio and i run on GSM only as vodafone has bugger all 3G in my area. I recomend radio 1.40.30.00 to anyone who is suffering with battery life, but as ever, please read everything before flashing as i wouldnt want anyone to brick their phone
Hi,
I have Black 2.0 installed, My battery drains fast (Radio 1.38). With Radio 1.40 my battery drains faster.
Regards,
Taguapire.
Am on 1.16 radio, had WM5, when hammered the phone would last ~ 16 hours maybe, this was with 3G enabled...
Upgraded to WM6, manually in 'G' mode, mainly use texting and emails, ~ 10 texts a day and ~10 emails, push permanently on, plus odd surfing, lots of calender and scheduling, ~30 minute calls etc. will only lose 10% battery life a day! Amazing! Was only down to 80% by day 2, but then I usually charge anyway so havent tried a full 100%-0% rundown.
So I guestimate with light use it should run for at least....a week without needing a charge.
I'm running the AT&T Cingular version of WM6 on my i-Mate Jasjam.
When I was running WM5 I was getting up to 24 hours of battery power, but since I switched to WM6, my batteries only last for 7 hours tops.
I always leave my phone plugged in to a charger whenever i'm at home.
I'm in film school and my job is the run all our sets so i'm always calling crew members, actors, etc etc, but if my battery dies after 7 hours on a 15 hour shoot I don't know what to do.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Or should I switch back to WM5?
Try different radio combinations. One of them may be better for you
Try putting your phone back in EDGE mode. If you have a custom rom go into comm manager and see if you can EASILY toggle between 3G and EDGE. 3G service EATS battery life.
I can't find Band in the Phone settings, I've been trying to switch from 3G to EDGE or GPS for awhile now.
Currently i'm running the AT&T "Original" WM6 3.57.502.1 with radio ver. 1.48.00.00 found here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Available%20Original%20Shipped%20WM6%20ROM%20Versions .
Would you recommend downloading 1.50.00.00 from here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms ?
Just press the comm manager button and press "3G" to desactivate (not all of them have this option).
Then it will uses EDGE instead of 3G.

I really like 1.48 for my area (memphis)...
As for showing the band tab on the phone settings page, there's a registry edit you need to do b/c att disables that option in their roms...
from the wiki:
Enable/Disable GSM/UMTS Band Selection
Cingular kindly disables anything useful about the network on the 8525. To enable the Band Selection Tab on your Phone settings page, set the following:
[\HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\]
"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:00000001
To disable, simply clear the value to 0:
[\HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\]
"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:00000000
here's the link: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry
Ok, changed the band. I also read somewhere that if I take out the battery, put it back in, charge it over night without turning the phone on, then it'll help with the problem.
But now i'm down to 5 1/2 hours of battery life.
Should switch back to WM5?
Cause WM6 doesn't seem to want to work with my device.
i must have tried nearly a dozen different roms om my hermes, and have found a huge variation in battery life, some only lasting 5-6 hours whilst others seem to last for upto a day and a half or slightly more.IMHO the rom has a much bigger influence on power drain than radio.its a matter of trial and error.
I switched back to my old ROM and radio ver (Cingular 2.15.502.3 w/ Radio 1.40.30.00)
They worked fine for me before, but now the battery is still only showing about 7-8 hours worth of life.
Really need help!
I downloaded SPB Pocket Plus and the battery indicator said I had 7 hr 46 mins at 100%
I tried switching the ROM again and it said the same thing.
I switched batteries with my Sister's phone (she has the same device, but with the original ROM that lasted longer for me) and it still said 7 hr 46 mins, but her phone lasts for 18-24 hours.
Should I bother getting a new battery? Or is it an internal hardware problem?
It's an iMate phone and i'm living in NY so I don't know who I could take it to for repairs.
I also tried draining the battery over night and completely charging it from 0% for half a day without turning on the phone and I got the same result.

Good place to ask
Been scouring the net for an hour now to trying to get an idea of what Radio Rom would be best for me, thought this might be a good thread to butt in on
I currently have 1.43 with Schaps 4.30 ROM, using T-Mobile in the UK.
Is there a better Radio ROM out there for me? Any improvements to signal would be nice, especially data seeing as it's my main source for the internet at the moment (just moved, broadband is taking too long to get active )
Well , 1.54 is newer than yours based on the #. It might be worth a whirl to try the at&t dialer and see if it works? you could always go back to 1.43 if necessary
I think that's what I'll do, hesitated after reading a few threads that didn't paint the 1.54 ROM's in a good light, but like you say can always go back.
Just to give my 2 cents worth, I was using 1.54.07 since June 2007, It performed very well for me except for whenever I had no reception for an extended period. Once I returned to an area with reception I would have to Soft Reset else my Hermes would not find a signal again. After reading the recent bad reps for 1.54, I decided to downgrade to 1.43 again. What I have noticed since downgrading is the batt is no longer lasting me as long. Normally I have 60-70% batt life left after a normal day with 1.54.07, now I see only 30-40% batt remaining.
See Mr Vanx's report for his current tests http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358933

I have a serious Radio Problem...
The battery lasts only 2 hours tops whith the Radio ON, and 3-4 hours in standby.
Ofcourse, the when the Radio is OFF it goes back to the normal consumption rate...
Can anyone help me?
Details:
ROM: Official WM6 (3.54.255.3)
Radio: 1.48.00.10
Is there any problem with radio 1.54.07.00 and battery drain?
I have Cingular 8525 and the battery last at most 6-8 hours, with less than 15 minutes of usage in the entire day.
I had the latest official Rom from AT&T, but last night tried Schap's Rom 4.31 to see if there was any difference. But the battery drains as fast as it used to.
My previous device was an 8125 and I could have the device without a recharge for 2-3 days. This one hardly last a days work.
3G
I've found battery life with 1.47 and 1.54 varients similar- they stink if your 3g is enabled and you're using direct push always on. I barely get the day out of my phone when I'm at my desk, not making a lot of calls.
I've turned 3G off and sticking with EDGE, get at least 2 days life.
Right now I've got Schaps 4.31, and Radio 1.47.30.10
great reception, good data speeds, good life, all good. But don't use the 3G unless you need it.
Having tried them all, 1.40.30.00 radio is by FAR the most battery efficient and stable for MS Push email IMO.
Here is a list of all the radios. 1.48 and 1.50 seem to get good reviews, but I cant remember if thats only in the US or if thats UK too...

I have Schaps 4.31 Rom too... I tried disabling 3G and leaving just the 3G. But didn't noticed any difference in the battery consumtion.
I also did a test last nigth. My battery was at 40%, I turned off the radio and the phone) Leave it on my desk without using. 2 Hours later I checked the phone, it was at 10%. I don't get it... the radio is off, the phone is without use, and still drains the battery this fast?

Was the screen off also?
Did you try that same test with other ROMs, and get the same results?
If yes to both of those ...... try running the same test again... but this time hold the power button until it asks you "power down?". Click yes, and now your phone is 100% off and not just in standby.
The likely conclusions of this test are as follows:
If the battery does NOT drain in this state ... you my friend have a bad battery and simply need to replace it with a fresh one (especially if you bought this phone used!).
If it DOES drain down in this state .. you my friend MAY have bad phone hardware or a short in the battery contacts. Clean out the inside of the phone, and (i would) still try a new battery just incase.
You may also want to run that program "acbPowerMeter".
It tells you the CURRENT your phone is drawing. I would say 110-70mA is normal. My phone is pulling 73mA average with screen brightness two clicks in from the right, not attached to charger, and phone powered ON with 3g enabled but not active. If yours is significantly higher, you have some drain in the software. If its the same, it would point to your hardware (most likely battery)

The screen was off. But the phone was in standby.
I will try your other suggestions to see what happens. I'll also try other radio roms. Reading this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358933), tests seem to show that rom 1.47.30.10 has good performance.
Will post later the results.
Thanks...
I did the acbPowerMeter test.
I get around 162mA Average and a total of 21mAh (for 10 minutes)
With screen brightness on the second click (from left to right, the least bright before backlight off), not attached to charger, and phone powered ON with 3G enabled but not active. No other program running except acbPowerMeter.
I tried turning 3G off (leaving just EDGE) and I got 169mA Average and a total of 21mAh (for 10 minutes). Strange that with 3G off got about the same or a little more.
I tried to do the test with the phone screen off (stand by), but it seems the program doesn't run in standby.
Any idea?
I meant 2 clicks in from the right .. so 2 clicks away from full bright is what I ran at.
I think you might want to start a new thread for this problem.
To give you some more numbers to go on ..
with phone on, bluetooth on, wlan on (and mated to router), no data connection, and screen 2 away from full bright .. my phone bounces from 80-115 sitting there with the screen on. Avg is 96 and total is just short of 8 mAh in 5 minutes.
take the numbers for what they are. keep in mind if your voltage goes down, your current will too. so run these tests at full batt.
search for battery drainage and find your problem , def replace the battery just to be sure its good. Personally, I would just sell the phone on ebay if a new battery didn't fix it. Time = money these days.. just get a new one and know its good
I've been seeing sporadic posts in different threads about battery consumption in WM6.1 ROMS.
Well, it turns out that since starting to use WM6.1, I've noticed a dramatic decline in my battery life. I can maybe squeeze out a day of use with minimal use. If I use HSDPA / Voice / WiFi - forget it, I get 1-2 hours before the battery drops to nearly zero.
I used to get much better life out of my battery before.
I tried playing with different ROMs, then different Radio version - to no avail - battery life sucks.
Any tips / ideas / comparisons on how to get reasonable performance with WM6.1 or is this just my battery having issues?
I think this would be more your device...
To check this, go back to your manufacturers ROM, and see if the same still happens. Also try this test with no 3rd party applications installed.
Poor battery life is usually cause by either:
1) Applications using 100% CPU
2) Faulty ROM
3) Faulty Phone or Battery.
If you're tried multiple ROMs, I'd say you can rule out #2.
I get around 2 1/2 days out of the stock 1350mAh battery on my hermes.
Hi
ygeller , i had some battery life problems with my hermes and i found on another thread some ppl saying to first flash the ATT rom RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship
and then the cooked one. That worked wonders for me, the radio version 1.54.07.00 is the best i tryed so far for battery life and network stability.
I'am using the latest PDAViet rom and no problems so far, with battery holding for 2 to 3 days with normal use.

Hi ygeller,
me too have similar issues pls visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392831 for details...
I have issues with charging too with my phone never charging full no matter how long i keep the charger on it get's stuck at 80%...
But good news is that I've arrested the drain now i flashed the PDAcorner pr0 V3 yesterday and through the entrire night the drain was less that 1% but it hasn't solved the drain if I use voice/data cause an 11 min call had my battery coming down from 63% to 16% ..
I guess i am gonna try and flash the stock ROM as compumad says..
I guess at least the charging issue is due to faulty ROM ( i hope)..
Thanks guys for input..
I agree that I get better battery life with the 1.47.30.0, in addition to aquiring a signal faster. The BIGGEST fix for me however was replacing my year old battery with a good quality Li-ion battery. Now I go a full day with hardly any drain using anybody's ROM, of course YMMV
I am having the same experience. I tried several WM6.1 ROMs and they always drained the battery within 1 day. I am back on Schap's ROM now and I can work for up to 3 days with HSDPA and BT on. About 1 month ago I returned my Hermes because of a defect and HTC replaced the complete inner life of my phone. So this can be compared to a more or less new Hermes.
As a comparison, I recently received a Wizard as a gift and flashed it with the WM6.1 ROM of SNN and believe it or not, the battery lasts for amazing 5 days! And that is with GPRS and BT on!
So, are we talking a major device issue, a ROM issue or is there something I'm missing here?

I've been on the current Shamanix`s WM6 Ultimate v2 FINAL [SuperStorage] ROM for a while and indeed the battery drains very quick- I've had to schedule Exchange email to be on for 2 hours now but a simple 20-30 min voice call drains the battery by about 30-40%!
I was on Schap's ROM but was waiting for his latest update. Will have to consider another one.
I have also had the same issue as people here with the battery running down very quickly.I did try going back to schaps 4.31 but did not seems to make a difference anymore. Will try going nack to standard rom and then changed to cooked and post if there is any difference.
are u guys serious? 2.5days out of the stock battery?
my battery is a 1300mAH and i get a week and a bit on standby, constant txting wifi, screwing around, i get at least 4 days.
now that i have a 1650mAH i cant even kill it in a day (wifi bluetooth and gsm all going at the same time)
theres a 3000mAH battery coming in the mail, if im gentle with it it should last.... 0.5 months?

you need to resync your battery circuit, charge your phone till your phone cant charge it anymore, then drain it till you cant even turn it on (no lights at all), charge it up again and it should be reading correctly.
here is more info about Li-ion and Li-Poly charge circuits.
see subheading "Guidelines for prolonging Li-ion battery life"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion
I also had a severe battery drain with several 6.1 ROMS. My main culprit was caused my certain applications not closing properly and running at 50%-100% CPU. The main apps were Internet Explorer, Windows Live, Poutlook, basically network based apps. For some reason the app wouldn't show up as running. It wasn't until I got a new task manager that showed "processes" that I found the culprit. I would make sure all these processes were "killed" and my battery life lasted a lot longer.
I eventually went back to a 6.0 ROM, as I couldn't take all the problems.

Unfortunately, I've done that without planning. I am constantly fully charging the phone - then it drains and dies after a few morning phone calls...
This doesn't help...
OK. I am flashing the ATT ROM to see what gives.
Already it's been a chore. I haven't flashed stock ROMs in quite a while - had to extract the NBH file and use in with a cooked ROM wrapper to get it to flash.
Will report back with results.

Have Flashed ATT, then PDA Corner Pro V3. I didn't have much faith in the voodoo of flashing the official ROM to magically repair stuff - and so far I can't say that I've seen much change...
too bad...

You put PDA into bootloder mode and the flash, no need to jumpthrough hoops.
Actually the AT&T Official has repaired numerous bad flashes for me, is a lifesaver.
I have been a user of the stock AT&T WM6 Rom for many months. Before that, I had the stock Cingular 8525 WM5 Rom, and many of the cooked WM6 ones, starting with an early Black, a couple of Custel's, Sleuth's, and a few others. I now use personal derivations of the stock AT&T WM6 Rom that I have been cooking up over the past few months.
I have NEVER had good battery life on my 8525, with ANY ROM at all. Left alone, my battery dies after only a few hours. I have learned to live with this, always carrying a second (charged) battery, and I have chargers at home, at work, and in my car, in order to deal with the issue.
I must ask, when others say they get 2 or more DAYS out of a charge with "normal use", please define what "normal use" is for you.
My "normal use" includes checking 4 email boxes, one of them push, one at at 30 minute intervals, and two hourly. I use PocketWeather, which I have doing updates at 30 minute intervals for 4 locations. 1-calc updates monetary exchange rates daily. I make/receive only a couple of phone calls daily (yes, a BIG battery-killer), and I rarely receive text messages. No MMS at all. I utilize Bluetooth devices during my commutes in both directions, only use WiFi at home (another big battery drainer, but since I'm at home, it doesn't matter). I keep the IR port turned off unless I'm actively using it. I am on the internet with my device every chance I get, using the normal AT&T WAP access point with an unlimited plan.
I feel that with the amount of usage I get out of my device (especially Internet and emails), I can accept the poor battery performance.
But I am curious ... those of you who claim much higher numbers for battery life under "normal usage" ... please explain what "normal usage" means to you. I have never seen anything close to the numbers that have been posted by many.
FWIW, my two batteries are: 1 stock 1300mAh, and one is a Boxwave 1350 mAh. Both are well over a year old.

I'm forced to agree with pvs. I'm in a very similar situation: I use the stock AT&T WM6 ROM, although I've used a couple of other ROMs and Radios before this.
If I set my 8525 to auto-poll my 4 mailboxes every 15-60 minutes, I always notice a definite decrease in battery life. In the beginning, I'd get the "low battery" notification before I even left work late in the afternoon (this is after getting a full charge the night before). In between then and now, I turned off auto-polling. I couldn't get any new mail unless I did a manual send/receive...but my battery life improved dramatically; I could get nearly two full days' usage out of it before having to charge at night.
I was fairly confident it had something to do with that data-connection required to update the mail, and I feel that it's confirmed: 3 days ago, I found a registry edit that turns off the 3G/data connection after being idle so many minutes (I have mine set to 2 mins). I can now auto-poll my boxes, but my battery life has decreased again...not QUITE as bad as before, but I pretty much have to charge it every night, now.
(Additional "normal" usage for me has always included using Bluetooth for a headset and several calls during the day, varying in length...around 30-50 minutes total talk time, if I had to guess.)
Frankly, I'm surprised at the people who say they're able to leave their data connection on all day (even if it's sending no data in certain moments) and see no appreciable battery-drain. This is my second 8525 and second battery, and my experience has remained the same.
I was going to try and find some sort of push EMail solution...but to make matters worse, I've been doing research and unless I'm misunderstanding things, it looks like WM6's version of "Push EMail" requires that "constantly-on" data connection. I'm frustrated, and I'm seriously considering getting a Blackberry.
If someone can come up with some alternative ideas, I'd love to hear them, but...even though I love my 8525...my patience is starting to wear thin with it.

If you want to leave your connection on all the time and have a battery for the day and night....Blackberry. My tytn is fun to play with and flash but for my email it's blackberry.

Good grief. Is this the consensus of everyone? I'd hate to give up my 8525, since it has Windows Mobile versions of what I work with, plus some pretty nifty games and apps...but I want a device I can both work AND play with. So far, the 8525 is falling down on the Work/EMail end.
I've dodged the blackberry for so long because of 1) no touchscreen, 2) it lacks the versatility of a true PC (ideally, PCs can be used for work and play; blackberries seem meant primarily for work). Plus, I don't know if the Blackberry's "push" EMail features will work any better with my particular mailboxes (i.e., it may have to constantly "poll" those boxes as well, which may result in similar battery drain).
BTW: It's noon here, after 3-4 calls this morning (around 25 minutes or so), EMailboxes updating (2 at 30 mins, 2 at 60 mins), Bluetooth off, and having read 2 CNN articles (and closing it right after)...my 8525 is at 70% power. X-(
(ATT WM6 ROM 2.15.502.3, Radio 1.40.30.00)
I use this great combination of software and hardware, but big problem is watch's short battery life.
I tried some Tomal's roms with radio 1.15.00 and 1.18.00, but battery life is still about 13 hours. I flashed old but good Jwrightcmps's WM5 1.90.96, but there is no possible to launch smartWatchM at all. I will try newest tmobile WM5 today. Does anybody know some good rom for this use?
I asked for advice in official smartWatchM thread, but nobody answered me. So I am trying it here...
Hm... nobody has Uni and BMW-150... So I will use this thread as notepad
My first experiences: (rom, radio, watch battery life)
tmobile 2.00.41 WWE, 1.17.00, under 1 day
Jwrightcmps WM5 1.90.96, 1.18.00, smartWatchM does not work at all
Tomal WM6.1 8.5, 1.18.00, under 1 day
Tomal WM6.1 8.5, 1.15.00, under 1 day
Hi Standa,
Sounds interesting. What exactly is a BWM-150, (I've never come across a smart-watch... what can it do?)
What are you trying to achieve? Perhaps if it's the watch battery life, is there any way to reduce an update with it - if continually on BT connection, can decrease battery, but then I understand it must continually have BT on so it can display caller name?
How does your watch get recharged? If I had a watch and it's battery run out before a couple of years or so, I'd be very unhappy... but what do you expect from this device?
Hi -Jonny-,
sorry, my mistake - it is MBW-150, not BMW-150 .
Here is the hardware:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/mbw-150executiveedition?undefined
and here is the software:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362218
A lot of people can use their watches for 3 - 6 days but I can use them for only 15 hours. So I am trying to figure out where the problem is. HTC Advantage users have solved this problem with the right roms and radios, so I am following their way .
I don't know how old is my watch, but it is max. 1 year, not more. So I expect longer battery life. I know that five years old device could have almost dead battery, but it is not my case and I still hope problem is caused by software part.
