I'm using the isp.cingular network. Opera and Outlook/Exchange work ok, but I can't get IE to connect. IE works ok using wap.cingular. I'm using WM6. Any ideas?
Did you disable the proxy?
I don't think I ever had one running. I'm using vp3G's v3.62 ROM which automatically sets up wap. I changed the settings to isp. When I click on "Set up my proxy server", the only thing checked is "This network connects to the Internet"

I've just purchased my O2 Xda IIs and am wondering if there is a way to do this:
IE seems to be one of the programs that automatically connect to Internet using the first default in Network Management.
Is there a way to force it to use the network connection of my choice?
Here's my problem?
When I'm in field, I want to use Optus GPRS Internet settings. (This is slow and doesn't work well in office due to poor reception.)
When I'm in the office, I want to automatically use My Work Network which is wireless.
In order to force IE to use My Work Network, when indoors I must manually change settings in Settings/Connections/Connections/Advanced/Select Networks
This is time consuming and something you sometimes forget to do when moving from field to office quickly.
Thanks!
Marvin
When I turn on Wifi, it automatically changes my selection from MTCTouch WAP (my WAP provider) to My ISP, which works because I use a default gateway and not a proxy server.
Anyway, I'd love to be able to make it automatically select a network of my choice, or even switch IP address depending on which Wifi network I'm connected to. Does anyone know of this?
Ever since i installed wm6 (black dymond or black 3.1), I can not connect to the internet using wifi.
It show i am connected to my router with good signal, but can not access any web site using IE. I am not connecting thry a proxy.
Can anyone help?
what carrier are you using
Try to disable the proxy and see what happens...long time problem for Cingular/At&t users...
If it's just throught WiFi that you have a problem then go to Settings / Connections / WiFi
Then click on the tab for Network Adaptors and ensure that the drop-down shows ... "My network card connects to: The Internet".
There is another more detailed explanation of this elsewhere in the forums - may need to search to find it.
Multiple proxies...ugh
I'm not sure which proxy you are talking about...but on my WM6, I had to go into the Windows menu -> Programs -> Proxy Manager -> and select Disable Proxy for my Wifi to work. It seems like this program shortcut is independent from "Connections" proxy settings.
Try that and see if it works. It fixed my problem.

I will try the proxy manger.
I do have the connect to "the internet" box checked under Wifi tab.
not linked to black only
After a lot of effort I can now connect to a secure network but have no internet either. With a unsecure network I have no problems with the internet. strange. I have tried a few roms and for me they all share this problem.
I do not have a seperate program for proxy server to disable!!
When I tried the Black Dymond, I downloaded Custals Proxy cabs as I had the same issue. Here it is....
I have black 3 and I have the same problem. When I connect to an unsecure and opened wifi, I am cannot connect with ie. I am getting "page is not found'.
I do not have the proxy manager in programs. I have selected 'internet' for wifi. any solutions?
I am unable to connect w/ a 3G connection...if I use WiFi I can make a remote desktop connection from my TyTn to my company server, but if I am on 3G I cannot connect. What am I missing?

make sure the connection is active before attempting to connect... so kick up internet explorer or something that initiates the connection...
I have a connection, I can see it go active then I get an error.
I tried as you suggested, the error just comes up immediatly.
ERROR:
Cannot Connect. Likely reasons are:
1. Specific Computer name does not exist
2. A network error occurred while establishing the connection.
Works fine when using WiFi or when connected to PC via USB...wont connect while on 3G

mmm...i think i know your problem...
Click Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks... now what connection is specified in the 'Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using'
that should be your 'GPRS Connection' you are using to connect to your IP WAN
thanks, I had that set wrong...but still cant connect.
my 3G is setup as ISP (Cingular)...I called it "ISP"
The advanced setting had a preset called "My ISP", so I re-setup my connection and called it "My ISP" and selected it in "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:"
still wont connect.

did you use Custel's cabs to install the Cingular Settings??
no, those always caused problems as I am using ISP not MediaNet.
btw- should have mentioned I am now using Black IV Shadow and Radio 1.43.00
Possible reason: your networkprovider has blocked the port used by remote desktop.
We had to change the gprs connection point/address when we wanted to use vpn to connect to our corporate network.
Try to get hold of at telnet application for your device and connect to port 3389 on you remote desktop server.

I had the same problem till I created two VPN connections. One for internal use (WiFi) and one for extenal use (3G).
The internal one uses the internal IP address of the VPN server and the external one uses the external IP address.
You have to sleect which connection you want to use before starting the connection depending on whether u r using WiFi or 3G.
Hope that makes sense. It works 4 me.
GOT IT!!! Thanks

esseff, pardon my noobness but when you speak of "VPN server" is that referring to the desktop I am trying to remote connect to?
I have an ATT 8525 w/Black Satin Normal WM6 on the ATT network using MediaNet as my GPRS.
I can remote in from almost any open network via my laptop. Could it be that ATT blocks 3389? If so can I alter the port RDM uses to setup a connection?
are you able to remote connect PC to PC? (from outside of your current LAN)
if not ... its not your phone its your firewall... try disabling your firewall w/in your pc os and router.
would explain why you can connect using wifi if its part of your router and its set up as a "home network".
I'd bet if you googled this you'd find EVERYTHING you need to know.
Yes, I can connect just fine PC to PC outside the LAN. I have my custom listen port opened as required. The issue is definitely with the 8525 connection settings or the ATT service. I have trolled google pretty extensively, but have been unsuccessful in finding some quality info.
I have the AT&T 8525 and i just upgraded to WM6 and when i turn my wifi on and then try to connect to the interent by opening my internet browser it says that the connection was lost or what ever. I know my wifi is working though because i have other programs that use the interent and they connect fine! Anybody have any suggestions or help they can guide me through to get past this? Thanks!
yea im having the same problem....
Same here. But I use Opera so it doesn't bother me to much.
Same thing
I experience the samething as well. I did not test connection with other applications but PIE didn't work with Wi-Fi turned on. Thanks
I have the same problem. However, i managed to solve the little bug.
all you have to do is press start menu, click programs, and look for proxy manager, and diable proxy.
It should fix your IE problem when connect using wireless.
good luck!
You wont be able to use wifi with the MediaNet profile, change it to My ISP.. you might also need to change the isp.cingular APN to wap.cingular it depends on what type of data plan you have in the billing system. if you have isp.cingular which is for laptop connects which gives you a real IP then isp.cingular should work.

The other day I flashed to the Black Majik ROM I couldnt connect to the Internet. I changed from MEdia Net to myisp and I was connecting to to the Internet with something called "hspda" I think. I got an H in the status bar instead of the 3g symbol. Is that faster or slower than 3g?? sorry If I sound retarded. English is my second language but I'm trying also I'm not to familiar with windows as I use Linux and BSD on my computers.
I have O2 xda Orbit upgraded to WM6, I need to connect to wireless access point at school which requires a proxy server. I know the proxy address and port No and add them through settings/connections/connections. I connect to the access point OK and can even browse network using Network Browser but no internet. Had same problem with WM5, WM6 no better.
