OFFICIAL HTC WM6 ROMs REVOKED! - WHY?! - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

From the HTC Europe support webpage the new WM6 ROMs, published yesterday, have suddenly been revoked!
Just check it yourself! I wonder, why?!

But, quite interestingly, the roms are still avaible in HTC ftp site...

They probably needed some testers for it! And by looking at the reactions in this forum they can see if there are changes to be made?!

From internal information I was told that they accidentally made it available yesterday. The schedule is for tommorow. They didn't synchronised well with local dealers and providers.
Logically tommorow night will be up again (if the infos are corect!!)

It's already back again

WM2005 sucks?

Looks like wm2005 still not very stable, a lot of programs still not working.
For example, Xbackup, set as ringtone or Monster Chinese, etc.
well alot of programs required new versions when 2003SE came out as well

Using it on my Imate for a month or more and no problem so far and no lock-ups like there were on WM2003SE
I think the title of this thread is misleading... :?
The fact that it does not run several applications or crashes is because:
1.- This version is not final
2.- It's not compatible because of it's very nature, IT'S A NEW OS!!!
The same happened when we upgraded our PCs to Windows XP don't you remember?
New versions will start to come up eventually, and even if you don't see any advances "right-out-of-the-box" it's because the main improvements on this OS reside behind the scenes, so Programmers will start to develop new and exciting apps that take advantage of the new features and APIs.
For me Windows Mobile 5.0 has been very stable even with the very first version that Buzz, Toe and the gang which had very limited memory resources I had no stability problems whatsoever.
There are limitations of course, (like no MMS, mediocre video camera, sms problems, etc) but eventually Microsoft OR our very own developers will take care of that!
So, BE PATIENT!!!!!
Hi,
Using it for 3 days in my Qtek 2020 and no problem at all.
Even Jabra250 works fine, when in 2003SE was difficult to setup.
About software that don't work, we must wait until new versions come out...
I'm sure when you update you computer from NT to W2K you has software that didn't work and had to buy new versions, so why should be different here?
Be patient.... Mobile5 is ok for now.

i double that
Rayan & all the rest are right!!!
I can't agree less to what Rayan wrote.
It's a new OS and a beta for that matter (check out Goras thread on "WM2005 that I can share"), If I'm not mistaken it's not also intended for Himalaya, judging on the memory problems just solved(!) by Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, mamaich & all the other contributors as well.
Personally in my opinion its a lot 'solid' than the WM2003 & SE since it has to crash yet on my xda II, as mentioned by Rayan even the initial release of the OS with limited memory was stable.
The problems with the apps like backup & camera are being solved one-by-one, MMS which doesn't even start before is now working (check out the threads on WM2005 in the forum).
Even now, the benefits of using the OS in terms of performance, stability & looks far outweighs its limitations (in my humble opinion) just be patient & leave it to the WIZARDS (Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, etc. etc. etc).
Besides, hey ttseng this is the xda-developers forum & we all are having fun testing, tweaking, & breathing new life to our "soon to be outlawed" XDA II ....... if not for the WIZARDS in the forum !!!!! Notice the request for the OS on the other xda models, aren't we lucky we have the WiZARDS working on the HIMA?
Cheers!
works flawlessly on XDA2 Himalaya!!!!!!!!
best os and most stable one ive come across ,wm200se never really happy but this WM2005 is and has been stable without a single hard reset or rest since install.even self configured the o2email and hotmail!! took the o2 uk config & connections setup file from a XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom.
Is there more than one version of WM2005 kicking about?
I successfully installed WM2005 on my XDA II, but I couldn't get many 3rd party apps to install on it. So I was surprised to see screenshots with certain utilities running ok.
I was wondering if there is more than one version of it floating about on the net. The one I installed was found on these forums, but I have recently downloaded another off usenet.
They are both himalaya.
I am sure a non-beta copy will rear its head on here sooner rather than later (I hope!)
Cam
this version is in the ftp section ,the rom has a file name of
wm2k5_XDA2_HIMALAYA_O2_fullRAM.rar
Yep!
That's the one!
That would make both copies I have the same.
Is this a late BETA or even an RTM version?
Now that the OS has been officially released I am guessing it's a race for someone to post the released version ;-)
the official full version is released?
wow!
so when can we have it for download here?
i am planning to put off my upgrade till the full version comes out.
currently i am on the win2003se which i aint very happy with!
plz advise...
thanx everybody.
It out but you cant get it.
I have a friend who is a manger in Microsoft. I sent the MS link of the offical release and asked if it can be obtained from the internal web software store. At the moment it cant and I feel it will also never be the case (2003 the end user could never buy).
So we are back to the carriers and if they will ship 2005 as an upgrade for ood devices or only on new (MDA XDA IV).
Dont think one needs to be a rocket scintist to answer that, was not one of the devices never shipped with 2003, the way I remember it it was buz that did a Chines to English translation.
So at least w on the BA side have to wait untill something gets leaked.
A little help with WM2005 upgrade please!!!!!!!
I see that most people have upgraded to WM2005 without much trouble, but not me!! I am with o2 and I've just upgraded and I can't us GPRS (it keeps trying to dial 193.113.200.195 and then drops the conx even though the IP is entered in the APN section) I can't run Worldmate pro (not compatable), TOMTOM 3 (need to upgrade to ver 4.4) pick up email etc etc.
Could I have the details that you need to enter into your XDA to connect to o2 network via GPRS so that I can access hotmail, messenger, MMS, Internet etc etc
I hope you can help as I don't want to downgrade to the old windows version.
i can send u a O2 customisation cab file if u need ,however your phone must b on contract with O2UK not payg or orange etc..
Yes Please!!
That'll be great. yes I am with O2 contract.......
where is the awesome rom !!! please
iam running w2005 in my XD2..but still MANY applications cant be installed..and i was surprised to see the screenshot (above) with many applications runing ..BUT i couldnt find the ROM...i found only the one for XDA2s..."XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom" actually is a zipped file with no rom inside..just many cab files ..can anyone help me please...thanks guys

Was just about to post this myself
I think the crux of the matter will be, will it cost HTC anythin to supply a WM6 rom for existing devices? It will cost a bit in development, but would they have to pay MS for licensing?
I'm sure the answer is yes - so they wont do it.
Call me a pessimist if you like . . . Im relying on a clever rom cooker out there!

Did anybody notice that only htc vox from three new handsets (forth one has been removed from htc site) presented at 3GSM has wm6 preinstalled. I think that htc will do an upgrade of some handsets with wm5. Let's hope I'm right!
cheers
HTC released upgrades for exisiting devices from PocketPC 2003 to WM5 and is busy on other devices for update to WM6, also from WM5 to WM6 'so it could be possible that the TYN gets one from WM5 to WM6.
*fingers crossed*

as far as i know htc never released any OS upgrades... and i've had htc devices since the XDA 1.
Why are we all excited for WM6? They can't even get WM5 right on this device!
I dont see any reason to wait for WM6. With WM5 works solid, and i dont see any changes from WM5 to WM6!! Changes of OS from one year, are not enough from Microsoft.

Well for one, the email client is supposed to be better, also PIE has some updates, but the biggest thing for me is that I spend hours a day behind a remote desktop session from my TyTN, and the client in WM6 is so much better from what I have read, clipboard support..no more transferrin docs to retrieve text....also its supposed to have sound support also...I run streaming media services, and being able to preview audio before I encode it etc..that would be incredibly helpful. And also when you don't rewrite an OS completely you build upon it, work out bugs, and add improvements, plus I guess if you only talk on your device...its not gonna be much different.
I tend to see some people sayin the same thing about the PC OS's, its like they expect a whole new experience with each OS.
When you completely redo the OS everytime you only tick off software designers, There are improvements there, just take the time to look.
i agree, heavy users of their devices will have huge amounts of program data running at one time, (i do) and sometimes it lags, other times it fails to load new programs. I read that the memory paging was better in WM6 than it is in WM5 so lets hope so!
Here's sort of a kick in the pants. Check out what the article says about HTC and WM6. Hmm...http://www.pocketpcmag.com/mobile/webguide.asp

Future Oficial HTC Artemis WM6 Upgrade X Office 2007

Does anybody knows if the comming soon upgrade will include office2007?
as far as im aware the official WM6 from MS is including Office 2007,
o2 uk's Dire rom DID include it, although i never used it, i have no need to.,..
No, the official HTC Asia (Dopod) WM6 upgrade does NOT contain Office 2007 upgrade. You can notice the presence of the upgrade, because it includes One Note app (a new note taker app). And after flasning that rom my Artemis still lacks One Note.
On the other hand the O2 WM6 upgrade has Office 2007, althougt it has a smaller OS version. So I don't know the logics behind the manufacturer's decision on put or not the Office upgrade to the new ROMs.
cheers
I think he means the official US release which is due very soon.
reply from HTC customer service
Just thought I would quote the cust service rep who answered my question about the release of the official HTC WM6 upgrade for P3300, unfortunately no big surprises here:

i got this response from htc too.
maybe someone with htc tytn that installed wm6 official upgrade from htc (not asia) could respond.
wm6 official htc asia doesnt have office 2007 but wm6 from o2 have!
The official o2 wm6 does not have office 2007 - they say it has but they are mistaken. It cannot open or create docx documents for example - i believe no official wm6 for artemis will have office 2007 - you'll have to use a rom with it cooked in. (or there is a cab on yhe forum but it has bugs)
What roms have it cooked in? Ideally a clean rom, not the B&B.
Any links to cab downloads would be greatly appreciated.
htc rom will have office.

Official update for TouchFLO 3D?

HTC begins shipping its Diamond handset with updated TouchFLO interface.
One of HTC's Diamond key selling points is its TouchFLO 3D interface, which brings a new way to scroll through contacts, browse the Internet, and the like. However, unfortunately, performance has been generally sluggish. HTC looks to remedy this, by releasing a newer version of the interface on new Touches. The newer version of the interface looks to bring an significant speed-boost to the table. There is no word if current owners will be able to upgrade to the new version as of yet.
source: Mobile-Review
Does anybody have their hands on this updated version? Or at least some more info about it - version number, included in new rom, performance video etc.
If this is true this wil be verry handy. I recently order my diamond, however it was sold out. New shipment is expected in early July, so maybe i get a new version
Ive just ugraded my ROM to version 1.37.405.1 WWE and can confim that touchflo 3D runs much more smoothly!
I would suggest version 1.37.456.2
It is newer with some new versions of programs and much faster!!!
Hmmmm i wonder if they are talking about the 1.37.456.2 ROM or about something different and newer... w8 n see i guess
I am using my diamond in the US, which WWE ROM are you using, and more important where did u downloaded it ?
honestly guys this has NOTHING TODO WITH ROM DEVELOPMENT!!!
jesus lets try and post this in the correct forums.

Apologies, but I thought it'll be usefull information for you guys cooking roms. Move it to the general Diamond section if you wish.
Still no news on this theme? Seeming that the O2 versions of the diamond are shipping in more countries every day i would think that the new touchflo version has appeared somewhere...

new touchflow

Hey everyone,
I'm following the newest rom's and test for the best. last friday the htc diamond 2 was on sale. great phone, but happy with the first diamond, BUT..
is there a rom with the new touchflow and opera with the page preload function, or has any developer plan to intergrate it in his new rom?
Yup... here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493531
I would suggest you to wait for the new version, which is being ported as we speak (or write actually).
You should know that the current version (Beta1D) runs painfully slow from time to time when you get down to the contacts, phone, sms etc. At least on my device it does. I guess it is due to the fact that it was originally developed for the Diam2 and not Diam1...
But hopefully somebody's keen to tweak it a bit for a future rom release.
try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487430
