When I'm in lectures I have my device set to vibrate only. Does anyone know how I can set it so I can toggle this mode at the push of a hardware button?
Thanks.
Im not sure if Artemis has a comm manager button .. it ought to have, I guess. Anyway, if it has a comm manager button, just press and hold that button will do a toggle.
It does, I did have it bound to launching Tomtom, but I set it back to comm manager - holding it doesn't do anything aside from launching the comm manager.
hm.. probably it is not supported then. In most PPC, the application the button is set to, doesnt overwrite the press-hold vibrate toggle. I think you may want to look for a vibrate toggle program that you can use (i.e. assigned to a button). I think VJ has one.
Just keep pressing down on the volume slider until it's set to "vibrate". I know it isn't the answer you were looking for, but it's the closest thing you'll get to a hardware toggle on the Artemis.
There's a problem with that though, demione, it's fine for setting it to vibrate, but on the way down there it sets both system and phone volume to 0 - when you try and take it off vibrate it seems to only raise system volume, not phone.
So it seems doing it that way leaves the phone volume at 0.
I think a program would just be simplest, does anyone know where I might find the one mentioned?
Interestingly.. it is not VJ that has it.. another V guy has it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279228
Thanks, that's exactly what I was after.

How did you manage to set the button to launch the comm manager? I'm trying to associate a button with comm manager with no result

I thought the volume on left slide bar is general alerts AND ringtones, and the right slider is the in-call volume... mebbe not
I'm afraid I don't know how I set it to comm manager (if in fact I did - it might have come like that?).
Anyway, the utility that hanmin linked to is spot on, I've been using it for a while now with no complaints - as have my dad and brother (who both also have Orbits).

Have had this phone for 2 days now, pretty amazing but a few things I can't figure out.
1) Is there a simple way to set an automatic time for the phone to keylock? Say after 10 seconds of inactivity or something instead of having to hold down the end button everytime - Keep forgetting -. Already a few accidental calls due to this. Tried lock me lite, doesnt seem to work properly and I like the builtin lock function, just need to get it to do it by itself.
2) Is there a way to set a key where i can long press to switch from vibrate(and silent) to "normal" and vice versa? I'm already using the long end for locking the device.
Thanks, this has been bugging me since I got the phone.
After seeing this message, and not finding the answer, I wrote my own utility to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=580050
You can configure long end to popup a menu, which includes lock, flight safe, vibrate, etc...
I'm posting a Vibra (switch) cab that will switch from vibrate to ring. I have it assigned to long send to switch back and fourth. Otherwise I just use the volume keys pretty successfully (I had this cab from my old phone that didn't have volume keys, so I wanted a button to switch it easily).

This will be hard to explain in english but i will try.
Volumebutton on the side, it turns of my ringer now and then, very annoying. I dont understand why HTC let that button control ringvolume at all wake times.
One solution was to edit keypad.kl, i made volumebutton to a scrollbutton. That solution was of course not so good.
Is there another way? I want it to be able to change volume when playing media but i dont want it to be able to change ringvolume.
Softwarewise there is functions to individually have different sets of volume on media, ringer, messagenotification, this in Settings control panel. Somewhere in the code there should be some kind of call to those functions and give volumebutton access to ringvolume. Maybe possibility to delete that function that lets volumebutton change ringvolume?
Does anyone understand my jibbrish-english?
Perhaps any rom-cooking chef could do an "update.zip" for this purpose? Or is this deep inside the software that needs reorganizing much?
Any chef want to confirm my request are looked into? I want this so very much and i dont think i´m alone with this wish.
Or if its practically impossible, please tell me then so i can drop the idea.
Or if my english is so messed up you dont understand what i mean, tell me so i can try harder to explain.
Yes it can be done, all you would need to do is edit the key bindings located in the following file "system\usr\keylayout\qwerty.kl" , you could do this in a update.zip form or via adb.
What do you want the volume up and down keys binded to do>?

I'm also interested in this. Great idea! It has made me miss several calls
Let's not forget that they should work during a call too, which, in my opinion, is even more important.
Would it in some way be possible to stop the volume keys from changing the media volume when the screen is turned off? It's quite annoying when you take your phone out of your pocket and grab it by the volume up button

Whats the difference between qwerty.kl and keypad.kl? I have tried alter keypad.kl but then vol-button became more or less useless, it lost all volume-functions. I only want it to loose ability to change the ringer-volume and leave the rest of volumes alone.
I pulled qwerty.kl from my phone and it practically looks almost the same as the keypad.kl.
If i change key 114 and 115 in qwerty.kl to be for example scrollbutton i wont be able to change any volume at all with that button?
I too would like a similar function as there really is no need for the ability to change it almost anywhere;, especially with the volume rocker being so easily pushed on this phone. The following would be my preferred set up:
Only adjust media volume while playing media (including screen lock as I find it beneficial to change volume without taking phone out of my pocket)
Only adjust ring volume while in sound settings menu (where it should be!)
Volume adjust while in call should be left as is.
The only thing I would want fixed is that you shouldn't be able to use the volume buttons while the screen is locked/turned off.
i finally upgraded to the tilt 2 after 2 years of having the tilt...i am not sure if i like it. i don't know if this is because i installed smartskey or not, but my volume up and down keys aren't working now. they were functioning as page up/page down while i had smartskey installed but i didn't like that because i can't find a simply way to adjust the volume. on my tilt with windows mobile 6 if i tap the loudspeaker icon on the taskbar the volume/vibrate settings appear with the scroll bar, but now when i tap it, it takes me to "notifications" which only shows me my connection, battery life, and messages. is there an easy way to access the volume? the only way i can seem to access the volume is through the settings in the touchflo 3d system which i don't really want to use. now that i have removed smartskey the volume buttons aren't doing anything. how do i fix this?
ive never used smartskey, but you may want to try asking in that thread for help. worse comes to worse all you have to do is hard reset and should have the volume buttons back.
Hello everybody...
When I tap the "mute ring" button during incoming call, it simply not works. Animation showing that screen "recognised" the tap, but it is not doing its function. The Ring call is still "on"...
I am googling for a couple of days and can't find any solution....
Anyone?
Any idea is a great help...
Thanks
46 views and nobody has an idea or my case is unique?
OK...I will extend the problem description....
I tried to "bypass" the problem by installing some apps which work on their own.
For example, Phone Ex 2.2 when I tap the "mute ring" button it does the command "Answer" wtf????
There was another app which I can't remember the name and which is originally designed to program all the hardware buttons as per user's taste, but the application didn't have any "mute ring" option.
So...I think I can not resolve the problem by installing another application, so I beleive there is somebody on this forum that can help me in a different way....
To mute the ringer you can push the down volume key, this is what i do and it always works. This is actually a shortcut button for most phones if i'm not mistaken

Well it WAS on previous models of HTC and blackberry, but it is not the case by default on my device.
I have the same problem with my Touch2 and when this happened, my call (hard) key also not functioning. I have to do a soft reset and it came back to work again. I guess u have to soft reset your phone every couple of days so that it cleared out waste memory which effected this function.
After i soft reset mine, it works again but after using for awhile it will have the same problem. Dont know how to permenently fix
Hi
on HTC devices I was able to use the volume rocker to set the device to vibration and by pressing the volume down button again to mute my device completely.
This is not possible any more in ICS? I can only set the device to vibration. What about muting?
The thing I am wondering about is, that I can use the HTC widget to do that and sometimes my profile manager (setting profiles) also is able to enter silent mode. So sometimes I can see the crossed note icon in notification bar, but most often I only see the vibration icon.
What is that supposed to be?
Frank
The device goes from 7,6,5,4,3,2,1,SILENT,VIBRATE

If you hold volume down until it goes to vibrate mode, just press it up once and you will then have silent mode
No idea. But for me it works like a charm. volume rocker first all the way down - vibrate mode and once more and its silent mode (or vice versa, cant remember exactly). Same with the widget. Press it once, silent, two times, vibrate.
Not working for me... 3, 2, 1, vibrate. Volume down no more reaction. Volume up again, volume setting to 1.
But good to know that this should work. So maybe something is messing with the settings in background.
im not sure as i dont own the one x yet, but maybe it is like on the gnex with stock ICS that u need to go to the settings first and check the option: silent mode!
This is really weired.
Using the volume rocker to show the volume slider and then pressing the icon in front of the slider switches between the 3 modes as expected.
Using the volume rocker now, after playing with the settings, sometimes switches to silent mode but most of the time still only vibrant.
Sometimes I see a short silent mode icon in notification (just for the part of a second).
I have the HTC widget on home screen showing the mode. This often shows a different mode as the icon in the not.area.
So whats's wrong with my device???
I even uninstalled my profile manager for testing. No change...
Using the rocker it will go from loud to quiet then vibrate, now just press up on the rocker and it will go from vibrate to silent.
use the rocker then slide the thing down = sound off.
I attached 2 screenshots showing the illogical settings I get using the volume slider...
First image:
You can see the mute icon in not-area and the zero volume value in slider but the HTC widget shows vibrate
Second image:
Still muted but showing vibration profile here too
Why am I the only one having that problem???
OK, solved it. Resetted to factory default and restored step by step. Seems that the setting data storage was damaged. Skipped this on restore and everything is fine now!!!
I use the widget because I cannot get it to go into silent mode using the volume rockers (but then neither could my Xperia Arc on the stock ROM, so I guess that's normal)
