Hi
on HTC devices I was able to use the volume rocker to set the device to vibration and by pressing the volume down button again to mute my device completely.
This is not possible any more in ICS? I can only set the device to vibration. What about muting?
The thing I am wondering about is, that I can use the HTC widget to do that and sometimes my profile manager (setting profiles) also is able to enter silent mode. So sometimes I can see the crossed note icon in notification bar, but most often I only see the vibration icon.
What is that supposed to be?
Frank
The device goes from 7,6,5,4,3,2,1,SILENT,VIBRATE

If you hold volume down until it goes to vibrate mode, just press it up once and you will then have silent mode
No idea. But for me it works like a charm. volume rocker first all the way down - vibrate mode and once more and its silent mode (or vice versa, cant remember exactly). Same with the widget. Press it once, silent, two times, vibrate.
Not working for me... 3, 2, 1, vibrate. Volume down no more reaction. Volume up again, volume setting to 1.
But good to know that this should work. So maybe something is messing with the settings in background.
im not sure as i dont own the one x yet, but maybe it is like on the gnex with stock ICS that u need to go to the settings first and check the option: silent mode!
This is really weired.
Using the volume rocker to show the volume slider and then pressing the icon in front of the slider switches between the 3 modes as expected.
Using the volume rocker now, after playing with the settings, sometimes switches to silent mode but most of the time still only vibrant.
Sometimes I see a short silent mode icon in notification (just for the part of a second).
I have the HTC widget on home screen showing the mode. This often shows a different mode as the icon in the not.area.
So whats's wrong with my device???
I even uninstalled my profile manager for testing. No change...
Using the rocker it will go from loud to quiet then vibrate, now just press up on the rocker and it will go from vibrate to silent.
use the rocker then slide the thing down = sound off.
I attached 2 screenshots showing the illogical settings I get using the volume slider...
First image:
You can see the mute icon in not-area and the zero volume value in slider but the HTC widget shows vibrate
Second image:
Still muted but showing vibration profile here too
Why am I the only one having that problem???
OK, solved it. Resetted to factory default and restored step by step. Seems that the setting data storage was damaged. Skipped this on restore and everything is fine now!!!
I use the widget because I cannot get it to go into silent mode using the volume rockers (but then neither could my Xperia Arc on the stock ROM, so I guess that's normal)

Hi all,
I just moved from the iPhone and getting my feet wet with Abdroid. Love it so far. The iPhone had a mute switch. Is there and easy switch off for volume without having to lover the volume manually or go into setup up and switch to just vibrate? I have read the manual but can't find anything on muting.
Thanks
There isn't no, but you have a profile widget you can add to your homescreen to change

from the lockscreen just push and hold the volume down button until the volume indicator shows the speaker with a cross next to it. from here you can also go to vibrate mode, just push volume down once more (when on silent)
you can tap the vol down button once a and then press the icon on the left of the slider and it will rotate throught mute vib and loud.

Greetings everyone,
Is there a way to disable the ringtone volume control using the volume rocker? Every time I use my phone, I keep hitting the volume rocker by mistake, changing from vibration mode to sound mode. I tried using apps like RingGuard and such, but they weren't effective and kept popping up in the notification center. Is there a way to get rid of the ringtone control option?
Thanks!

Completely disable the Volume buttons on Samsung Galaxy S3
I absolutely hate the placement of the power button on my Samsung Galaxy S3. When I go to holster my phone, if I accidentally hit the power button and wake the phone, when the phone fits into the holster the volume button will often brush against the holster and the volume will inadvertently change since the phone is now "awake" - this drives me CRAZY. I much preferred the power button to be on top of the phone, like my old Droid Incredible. But I do love my S3....
I tried the apps that "lock" the volume, but I was not happy with that solution. The apps seemed clunky, the geek in me doesn't like to have unnecessary app running in the background, and those apps tended to interfere with and/or alter the settings of the super-simple Silent Toggle Widget that I prefer to use.
So this is how I set up my phone:
- Completely disable the volume rocker button (see below);
- Use the Silent Toggle Widget on my Home screen to change the phone from "Sound" to "Vibrate" to "Silent";
- Use the Volume Control+ app to change the individual volumes via software, when the need arises, which it rarely does.
I love it. I don't find any real need to change individual volumes, for me the sound is either "on" or "off" - color me simple I guess.
So, to completely disable the volume rocker button on the Samsung Galaxy S3:
- Root your phone (sorry)
- Edit the file /system/usr/keylayout/sec_keys.kl [note the plural "s" in sec_keys.kl]
- Comment out the first two lines with the pound sign (#) to disable key 115 volume_up and 114 volume_down
- Reboot
Hope someone else finds this useful
this is a real shame that yoy have to disable the whole rocker, as this functionality has been for years in the iPhone...
Hey,
In most phones with ICS and above, when clicking the volume down button few times the sound is muted, but vibration is still on. Then, when you click one more time, the phone gets fully muted, with the vibration disabled.
For some reason, (my) note 2 doesnt behave that way.
I cannot disable the vibrations using just the volume keys, so I have to do this in the status bar menu, or in the power off menu.
Any ideas?
Hey,
Same problem here.. But with - G2.. Since i flashed JB Leak
Any ideas?

Its a Samsung "feature". I guess some talented dev could change this.
It's funny that it enables vibration this way, cause i have disabled it in settings ^^ Samsung must have some morons working there ^^ would be nice to get this fixed so i could mute my phone without touching screen..
This is the first nexus phone I've had, so I'm still learning. On my SGS3, I could pull down the tray and tap the speaker icon to mute. Is there any way to do that on the N5x? I don't see an option to add it to the tray, but there are many times I need to do this quickly. Any advice? I haven't gotten my cables yet, so I'm still locked and unrooted.
Thanks
I've always thought the simplest way is to use the volume rocker. Hold down till vibrate. That's vibrate mode. If you don't want that then push volume rocker down one more time. It will go into a do not disturb mode that you can configure to your liking either allowing alarms only or complete silence.
hi folks,
when you pull the top menu with internet / bluettoth/plane mode etc etc, i am surprise to not see a sound icon, for turn the phone in silent mode.
How do you proceed for turn your phone in silent mode?
thank you
I am pressing one of volume buttons and then the volume menu appears where you can use the button at the top to change between modes.
thank you niksum, i thought it could be done differently via classic icons from top menu (weird that there are no sound icons... no? )
