Network connection? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I've noticed that my phone seems to stay connected alot.
I do have active sync on with direct push but it's set to sync every 4 hours(i only use it for contacts/appointments)
I also have it set to check my bellsouth.net pop account hourly.
but even when it isnt syncing with the exchange server, or downloading my pop mail it tends to stay connected. I strongly believe that this is totally destroying my battery life.
Anybody else have problems like this and know how to fix it?
Thanks in advance
P.S. its a cingular 8525 with the windows mobile 6 rom from cingular.

What do you mean by always staying connected? ActiveSync? Connected to the internet? GPRS is always on? What?
You can disable the device by using Comm mgr, and tapping on the device icon.

The data connection stays active (ie 3g, edge, etc...)

If you're on a data plan, the device is supposed to remain connected. Is this not a good thing? Like I said before, you can always deactivate your device by prior instructions. Having an active and constant connection to the network should not drain your battery. What affects the battery is the device staying on at idle or active. I read somewhere that it's good to fully drain the battery at intervals to prolong the life of the battery.

Dash: IE Starts EDGE Connection when WiFi is off

Hello!
I believe I saw a thread that addressed this problem a few weeks ago, but I can't seem to find it now...
If I forget to turn WiFi on when I start IE, my Dash automatically starts to browse using an EDGE or GPRS connection. Is there anyway to disable the unit from using EDGE or GPRS for internet browsing? Or at least make it stop going to EDGE if WiFi is off? I don't have a data plan and don't want to be charged for access.
Thanks!
i also have the same problem and have had to resort to altering the gprs settings so that it cant connect. This is obviously not ideal as I would like to have it working in an emergency etc.
Thanks for any help!!

How did you do this? I have skype mobile installed, but it has a setting that is easy to figure out. Basically i only want to run IE over Wifi.
I'd be interested in a solution for this too. I've been deleting the GPRS settings and only entering them when I need to use it, which is less than once a month.
me too...
I'm in the same situation... is there any software to disable GPRS .. EDGE.. when the WIFI is off??....

How to get Windows Live to connect over Wifi?

I am using vp3gs 3.61 rom with windows live messenger version 10.6.0031.2600. no matter what I do it won't connect on my WPA-PSK enabled router. I can connect fine to the internet.
Any special setup I need to do to get it to work?
Thanks for any help.
EDIT
Could someone on ATT disable the phone and use WIFI only and see if you can connect to LIVE?
I am using 10.6.0031.1600(older than yours) but I am able to connect to live services using the wifi with WPA-PSK.
I am using my own cooked rom.
Search in all the forums I remember some people had the simillar issues and had some 'workarounds'
Sorry I do not really remember.
I too also had a problem with .2600, reverted to .1600 and all is good over wifi. By the way, I'm using WPA TKIP on my wifi.
Tried that one too and still get the "there was a problem signing you in to messenger" error after checking internet connectivity.
try these ideas.
1 ensure your wifi settings are to internet and not work
2 ensure you dnt have the ip address set up in exceptions (these ips are only for intranet)
3 turn off your phone entirely. soft reset your phone. check that wifi is still internet and not work.
4 turn on wifi only. check that u have normal internet access. emails and hotmail etc work ok. then open messenger and sign in.
5 if you have to, use wlm switch user command and relogin.
this should work. once u have run and got it working, you can turn your phone back on and it should continue to use wifi and not 3g

Still times out on checking internet connection.
I get email and internet fine. but no WLM.
I am using ATT. What should there be under Connections?
I have tried 2 My ISP and Media.net on My ISP it times out automatically, on Media.net it takes a while to time out.
Also did a hard reset to make sure that it wasnt anything I had installed. With the stock rom I still get the time out.
the proxy server u r using will b blocking that port.
I use telstra in australia, internet and push email works with proxy on, but wlm doesnt.
so i just turn off proxy and everything works except some of the telstra stuff which i dont want anyway.
proxy tends to give a garden firewall of their preferred content.
dunno how to deal with att, but suggest one of your connections should allow you to bypass the proxy styled firewall garden of att.
soz i dont have it to help u further, except to point u towards the proxy manager.
just to reiterate and emphasis the telstra proxy manager controls over rides and screws up 3g/next G connections AND my wifi.
only by turning this proxy manager off can i use wifi and 3g fully.
Thanks, there is a cab that disables the proxy on the att phone, so I disabled it, but that didnt help either.
Wlm 10.6.0031.2600
Hi, does anyone have the cab or installer for the latest WLM 10.6.0031.2600? Can someone post it or make it available for download? Thanks a million
Is anyone who has ATT able to use Windows Live Messenger?
Okay since WLM obviously doesnt work over wifi. How do you guys setup your outlook to get Hotmail?

Absolutely. I use it all the time. Mostly through 3G but sometimes through my home wireless network. Never had a problem.
Memnoch30, what version of WLM you using and do you have it set any special way in connections to use WIFI?
Well it seems I am not the only one having this problem, I got an interesting PM stating another person has the same problem as I do. If someone else could do me a favor, turn off the phone in comm manager, but keep wifi on. Can you still connect to Live???
Anyone? Thanks in advance
Hi
Just try to keep the Red button pressed ~3s (it will cancel the GPRS connection) then Messenger will use the wifi one (i do like that since i use pocket msn).

MS exchange + activesync not staying connected?

so on my screen im showing
Microsoft Exchange
Sychronized: Today 12:26PM
yet its 12:36pm... its not staying connected but im in 3g with full bars and 3g connected internet. i have it set to recieve items as they come.. i will admit im new to this whole exchange service. im using gmail fwd to mail2web's LIVE service. any help? please?
What radio are you using? Wouldn't that have something to do with your Radio...I just read about someone with the newest AT&T rom and he has it on 30 PPC in his business and everyone keeps loosing the exchange server connection because of radio 1.54.07.00

Yes, but since the signal reconnects within seconds you wouldn't have noticed an issue unless you use Microsoft Push email. Push will stop syncing.
Am guessing you don't, as we now have about 30 devices on this new ROM and it is causing nightmares.

I've the same problem with my phone (Schap's french 3.54 + radio 1.50). Sometimes it stays connected and sometimes it don't. But it always correctly sync incomming mails as they arrives but not what I do on my e-mails (reading status, deleting, ...) causing my desktop to be desynchronized from what I did (for 1 hour or so). As soon as I click on the "sync now" on Activesync everything goes well.
I didn't had this problem with the official WM6 (same radio).
PS : I recommand you to disable the 3G because of the battery drain. Using a comm manager, I can enable/disable 3G on demand. When disabled, EDGE is far enough for syncing mails and surfing on the Internet, very few applications requires 3G/are significantly faster with 3G enabled (ex: VoIP, downloading, streaming, ...)
im on the newest radio 1.54.07.00.. battery drain is not an issue for me so im always 3g. im using ms push btw.. im going to change radio will report back.

Permanent Internet Connection

I am running on Orange 3G in the UK. I have set up my GPRS settings. My phone is now permanently connected to the internet and therefore the battery is running down very quickly.
Does anyone know how to overcome this?
Thanks
I am not certain that I know what you mean, but I presume that you want to go to the COMM MANAGER and disconnect via DATA CONNECTION. This has to be done after each usage of the GPRS, EDGE or 3G capabilities of the phone. Also, to conserve battery power, I believe it is said to be beneficial to switch off RECEIVE INCOMING BEAMS in the BEAM menu. Tell me if that rocks your boat!

[Q] 3G and Wifi connection liveness

Hello!
I have a question regarding the connection to the internet through 3G and Wifi.
First, if I leave 3G on and I turn the screen off, I understand that the 3G connection is still alive, but how does my phone know that there is a new mail, or a message in WhatsApp? Does it check once in a while if there is something new, or it receives the information on demand?
I ask it because if the phone is always communicating, it means that I am always exposed to it's radiation. Is it safe to stay connected through 3G?
With wifi I'm not worried about the radiation, but I do want to understand if the phone is always communicating in order to know if there is something new.
Thanks in advance!
Whatsapp uses push.. mail could be to.. As for checking mails and new messages.. you can change the frequency at accounts & synchronisation (i believe it's called like this in english) in the settings menu. Although, I think your connection will always find something to be 'active' anyway.
What I always do, when I sleep is airplane mode.. atleast shuts off most of the radiation at night.. I'm sleeping very close to the phone. I could also turn it off, but that'd mean my alarm clock is gone to.. haha
When an application uses push, my phone is not checking for new messages, but it is informed that it has a new message from outside? Do I understand it correctly?
So, if everything would use push, there would be no problem in being connected, because then no data would be transfered unless it is really needed?
