Activesync Data Connection

Hi
I've seen somewhere on this forum a registry key which stops Activesync disconnecting the 3G data connection when it connects to the PC.
I re-flashed my phone and I can't find the setting again. Can someone please help me find it?

With the latest version of Activesync or WMDC, its an option when you set up the relationship.

I'm not sure I explained my problem properly, think you may be refering to a different option.
My problem is that I have Internet Calling on my handset over 3G but when I connect the USB cable, the data connection on the handset is dropped and routed through PC. I found a registry change which enabled the handset to pair up with activesync but without dropping the 3G connection.
Any ideas?

I MUST WRITE IN CAPS SINCE YOU FAILED TO READ THE OTHER POST.
THE ONLY WAY TO ALLOW A DATA CONNECTION IS TO DELETE YOUR CURRENT RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR PC.
THEN SET UP A NEW ONE.
WHEN IT ASKS YOU AT THE LAST STEP IF YOU WANT TO ALLOW ANY DATA CONNECTIONS CHECK THE BOX.

Well, thank you for your extremely helpful reply, BUT YES, I DID READ THE POST! Shouting like that really does not help you, me or this community....
As I mentioned in both of my previous posts, I am looking for a REGISTRY KEY. If you had bothered to read them, you'd know I am not looking for a setting in Activesync or WMDC.
As I said previously, there is a registry setting which enables the handset to keep the data connection. It doesn't matter what version of Activesync you use or how you set up the relationship.
I know this because I have done it before after reading a post in this forum.
If anyone knows what this key is, I'd be extremely grateful.

Regardless of whether he shouted or not, there is the possibility that he's right.
Go to File ---> Connection Settings in AS and check the box that says "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to desktop" and that should do what you want and no, you don't need to delete the partnership to do this.
I've not seen a registry setting that achieves this but at least give it a try before the pair of you get into a **** fight.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have looked there and that setting is already checked. Once connected to Activesync, the handset can re-connect over 3G if it tries but it still looses connection when it initially pairs up.
What I am trying to achieve is a 'nailed-up' 3G connection otherwise it upsets the connection with my VOIP provider and I loose the ability to receive incoming VOIP calls. I then need to turn Internet Calling off then back on again to fix it. When I used this mystery registry setting, I could connect and disconnect as needed without a problem.

Have you checked your settings tab.
Maybe Data connection is off.

Internet Sharing (Not a problem with Kavana or Ricky ROM)

Accessing & Using the internet via USB
I have an unlocked HTC S620 & TyTN (Hermes).
When I connect the TyTN to the USB I am able to browse the internet as the phone uses the PC as a gateway automatically.Even if I do not setup a profile for activesync and the software recognises the device as "Guest". I am ceretain that this is the case and not accessing the service via the carrier or WiFi as I have enabled flight mode and been able to use the internet on the TyTN, browsing, using IM+ Mobile Mesenger etc.
I do not find the same functionality with the HTC S620 (T-Mobile Dash). Does anyone know how to get this functionality going?

Usually you always need to make a partnership for internet pass through to work. Strange you don't with the Hermes.

When you say partnership I asume you mean bluetooth.
I Turned on Flight mode and diabled bluetooth on the TyTN, connected it to the PC. Activesync came on and I cancelled setting up a profile so it was registered as guest. I got internet access via the usb cable connected to the PC. The same is not working for the S620.
I guess the distinction between the two is the TyTN is a Pocket PC and the S620 is a smartphone. There are various Ethernet Miniport Cards available for configuration on the TyTN. You find these under Settings>>NetworkCard>>Network Adapters. The one I find that shows up as connected is IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wifi Adapter, this I find strange as the device is in flight mode. The S620 does not have all the features and configurable network adapters under settings. Simply put a smartphone will not have all the networking capability of the Pocket PC
Let me know your thoughts please, or if you have another solution.

Here is how I got mine working.
1) Connect phone to pc.
2) Make sure ActiveSync shows connected.
3) Under ActiveSync Window select File->Connection Settings...
4) Change the "This computer is connected to:" setting from "Automatic" to "The Internet".
5) Under you phone go to IE -> Menu -> Tools -> Options -> Connections and make sure "Automatically detect settings" is enabled.
That's it. You should now be able to browse the internet through your pc connection.
Forgot to mention I am using ActiveSync ver 4.5.

Dash Internet Sharing Files on S720
On my HTC S720, there was no Internet Sharing option, even though it is WM6 unit. So after reading lots of threads on here and hofo, found out Blackjack had similar issue, as well as some WM5 devices running AKU 3 or higher.
So I copied intshrui.exe, intshare.dll and intshrui.lnk from Dash WM6 Rom dump, created relevant registry entries as:

Then run intshrui.exe and while I can connect via Bluetooth PAN, I couldn't get any IP. I also tried a static IP and that didn't work as well. I investigated a little more, and found another key:

Then I copied ipnat.dll to s720. Here is the interesting part. If HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnectionSharing exists, intshrui.exe will not connect, it will briefly grey out and come back to disconnected mode. As soon as I delete the key, it will setup USB or BT PAN and wait for connection (left soft key turns to Disconnect). I don't even have to reset the unit while making change to this key. Also, I left the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnectionSharing as empty, and noticed as soon as I run intshrui.exe, it will populate

Am I missing a file or reg key to make this work? I looked on my Dash for various keys/files but didn't see anything useful.

I have fix this problem,and update XIP and SYS to 19202,i'll upload the new version later,just wait...

btw With your rom I able to install and USE tomtom ,
with T-mobile Windows Mobile 6, I get incompatible with tomtom navigator arror.

6.1 Internet Sharing Problem *R.I.P.*
Has anyone figured out why Internet sharing NO LONGER works with any 6.1 roms that i flashed to? From Kavanas ROM s to Ricky's Remakes.
Is there a fix to this?
Can any of you "smarter" Gents or Ladies, look into this.

this is wierd. who is your operator? mine works just fine with the settings i use. maybe we should find out if this problem only exist for certain operators. might also have to do with the network connections on the pc. like i said in another post, i noticed a new network connection appears when you sync the phone, unlike in wm6.0. another thing is i would have problems with activesync everytime i flashed to a new rom without doing a uninstall & reinstall of activesync.

Shouldn't be operator issue. Worked great prior to updating to 6.1. (T-Mobile USA)

damn u were quick to respond. i edited my first post. im usin the new v15 rom. and tmobile is my operator.
ediit: i just messed with my settings and went back to how i had them before and now its not letting me do the internet share. hmm... this is not cool

Iv used V14, V8 and V5 and none of them allow my internet sharing to work. V5 worked at first but then stopped.
I really like 6.1 but I NEED that internet sharing

ok i think the problem may be with activesync. like i said, in my second post edited, i had messed with the advance settings of connections menu, and reverted back and it stopped net sharin via usb. i noticed activesync gave me an error sayin somethin about not being able to fully connect but i was still able to browse my phone, also giving me a constant animation of the activesync icon, saying "connecting" never stopping when a full connection is establish. when i fixed this and the icon stopped turning and said "connected" i tried and it worked.
on a fresh install of the past couple of roms, this is what i did... (from an earlier post of mine)
this is what i did. use the "connection setup" in the accessories folder. choose country & operator. dont think it matters but i also selected "Enable Auto Configuration" under the menu.
in explorer, under "menu/tools/options/connections" Auto.Detect Settings is selected. under "Select Network" choose The Internet.
now go into ur phones "Connection" settings, select "GPRS". in my case, select, "T-Mobile WModem Link", under "Connects to", select The Internet. for other operators, guess look for somethin similar. now u should be able to share via usb.
one thing u might have to do is, delete whatever gprs settings u have now and power off and back on. then do the above.

I have tried a few roms with the wm6 modem link and even installed the wireless modem cab on the official tytn rom but its not being detected on the computer. anyone knows how to make this work? my internet sharing option keeps disconnecting after a few minutes hence this request

The problem with internet sharing is that activesync always starts, causing a drop of the connection.... I found this workarounds working the most time but not always :
When you don´t use push define a fake exchange server, sync all items (it will give an error of cause) then disable all syncing items.
This should prevent async from start!
If you need push like me then try the following:
Disable in active sync setting on both units (PC and PPC) USB connection. Set your exchange sync schedule to manual.
Softreset your device. Go straight to internetsharing. BEFORE!!! you connect to USB start your sharing THEN connect to USB. This works most of the time.
I found the bluetooth PAN connection to be more stable, but it has a significant performance hit when you have HSDPA. For only UMTS,bluetooth has enough bandwith.

When you use internetsharing disable poweroff and screen blanking. I don`t know how screen blanking interferes with the sharing but i noticed, when the screen gets dark the connevtion got lost. And I use a ttle tool KillAsync on my Hermes. It closes Async for more memory. A last hint: in system-connections-usb to pc enable or disable -depending what is activated- advanced network funktions.
So, now i have no more hints. I tried Usb Modem link too, but got it never working , unfortunately. And i think, a seriell over USB connection like the modem link is to slow for hsdpa.
Looking forward the beer ;-)

static-IP over WIFI and 3G: 2.03-ROM bug?

I have been flashing a few 2.03 ROMs in the last few days and in all of them I find the same malfunction. I first tried with a few cooked ROMs and finally also with the stock one, same result.
Problem is with setting a static IP in WIFI. At first, it works all fine. However, soon after disconetting WIFI, you get the surprise of being unable to use the data connection over GPRS. I have trying everything (dunno how many soft- and hard-resets, even changing radio's), the only solution I have been able to find was simply that of deleting all parameters referring to the WIFI connection (including hence the static ip). By doing that, all gets back to normal. Simple solution but kind of annoying if everytime I want to use WIFI and static-IP (quite often in my case) I have to set all parameters again and again. I am now back to a 2.00 ROM which has not this problem.
Any chance someone can suggest a more elegant and stable solution?

Got the same problem here: running Dutty's V4 ROM I can't connect if I have a static ip address listed for my WIFI connection. I did have the same issue once before on a 1.93 ROM which was fixed by a hard reset, but no joy with that this time.

bump! so many new good roms flying around... i wonder whether this bug with WiFi/staticIP has been fixed. ???

Someone have any news?

i have same problem on rom 2.03.405.2WWE..and use static ip on wifi and only solution for me is to set on connection as default my work network not operator gsm and than work perfect, on gpsrs connection i can browse on internet but cannot conect with palringo!!! so anyone can fix this bug!!!

well u can use wi-fi profiles, to make profiles for each ESSID with the static ip and wep key if any, i have 4 profiles each with different statics ip's and keys. and when using gprs, i just click on dhcp only and voila. altho i didnt had the problem with static + gprs data, i'm not using gprs so much, but still i think this is a good solution, will upload cab tomorow here ( i found it on this forum somewhere cant remember exactly) cheers

i had the same problem, thx for the cab, works until somebody will fix this problem...

today I've tried to make a rom with new wm build and eom and drivers from 2.00 (which don't have this problem) but gprs doesn't work with static ip... so i think it is caused from last wm build... damn microsoft

I'm having a similar problem - I have a static IP and can not connect to wi-fi unless connected to activesync...
Can the wifi profiles program help? If so what do I have to do on it? Do I have to change any values?
Any other ideas?

Installing the old ROM it even follows the problem.

I have the same problem as well. I can connect to wifi at home with or without activesync , but sometime I can't connect free wifi at Mcdonald or car wash. Can someone help pointing out problem? or setting I need to do. Many thanks

I'm having the same problem with wm 6.1 build 21043, this sucks so much. I thought it was a problem with the hardware in the Diamond at first, but so many other people are having it that it's more than likely a problem with Windows Mobile.
Any fixes?

Turn on DHCP server on, that means AP will gives you automatically IP, and you can use wireless connection...
In options in "select networks" , select "my work" or something similarly, don't use ISP!
I don't have problem with active DHCP server on my HTC diamond, and i can use everywhere wireless connection...
I use Cloudy1.1 rom

At my office we have a 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point.
Up to now I was not able to connect and I could not figure out why.
The router has MAC filtering enabled but this was all set correctly, I could see my TP2 MAC address in the client list but on my TP2 it kept saying connecting.....
At home and at friends my Wifi works flawlessly.
I did some searching here and stubmled upon this WM6 Wifi fix.
I thought what have I got to loose. Installed the cab, did a soft reset and presto it connected!!!

Just in case anyone else is experiencing the same....

Yes I know, and I thought it was a long shot but I tried anyway. After a soft reset it still works and so side effect at all up to now..
Of course it is up to the user to try this and I can't guarantee anything!!!

Note that those cabs also change the phone so that wifi remains on while in standby. Handy if you use skype but a battery killer if you forget about it.
FWIW I got it working with my WPA2-PSK open-wrt based router without any hacks.
