hello guys,
i have a great problem trying to use my internal gps of my dutch mda compact III (artemis) i have installed the PDAviet B&B 4.1 rom.
the problem i am having is that the gps cannot be found by any aplication. and the status led doesnt shine/blink (never seen it working).
i know i am using the right settings (gps program: com4, gps hardware: none, baudrate: 4800, and automatic use).
i've searched al over the place(xdadev. google) and couldnt find a solution.
so please if any one knows what is wrong, or a way to test my gps device at all, tell me!! thanks in advance`!!
have same problems,
Went to tomtom website and got tomtom 6 update(01.01.07) to start with.
Seems I did it reght as I got new splash screen on tomtom start up, got back the option for selecting "integrated gps receiver" rather than having to select the Nmea option.
But still invalid signal for now
In any application you just need to setup port on com4 and baud on 57600 or 115200.
I have tomtom and it works I’ve used miomap and it worked too.
btw: tomtom detects gps automatically as internal gps.

I think it's com4 and 4800 baud and not 57600 or 115200
a+
Agree you can set it up to 4800

Hope someone can help ... I know this should be easy but just can't get things working. I have loaded iGuidance software into my P3300 with WM6 ROM. I dont know what com port to use and which baud rate to set at in iGuidance. In the WM6 "external" software should i check off or uncheck let Wm manage. In this program it wants to know what GPS program port I am using ? and GPS Hardware port and Baud .. Hope someone can help - been about a week and I cant seem to figure it out - thanks very much
I run Destinator for satnav, and have the gps settings at COM4 and 4800 baud in Destinator.
In external GPS, I have the following settings.
Programs tab:COM4
Hardware Tab: GPS Hardware port NONE , Baudrate 4800
Access Tab: Manage GPS ticked.
Also,
I found that sometimes Destinator would say that it had lost the gps connection , then found it, over and over.
To get over this problem, I installed GPSGATE (Google for it).
Run that, it'll find the GPS on COM4, then set a "virtual" GPS connection for COM5.
Try pointing iGuidance to COM5.
That should help.
Hello,
I am wondering if AX3L_OS_v3.1.2_LITE_fixed.rar is a GPS enabled rom. I cannot seem to connect using TomTom version 6.010. If it matters, my radio version is 1.50.08.11 and I am in the US.
TomTom Settings :
GPS receiver : Other NMEA Receiver
baud rate : 9600
GPS to com9
Thank you in advance!

But why don't ask this in the AX3L ROM Thread???
Don't you think AX3L will help you better?
Oh Yea it works!
Palermitano
AX3L 's AX3L_OS_v3.1.2_LITE_fixed.rar works the GPS great! I have less than 50% memory usage before kicking off the TomTom 6. It's been the fasted operation I have seen on the Trinity.
I'm using the TomTom 6 from HTC and maps from everywhere. It's a lot more stable than WM5 and I'm seeing a lot less memory card corruption. (4gig SD from TopRam)
What you might try is VITO Navigator II v1.3 to trouble shoot the problem. This little app can auto find the GPS module in the Trinity and give a display of all viewable sat's in about 5 seconds. There is no enable or disable needed, that app will turn on the gps and start working. It can even show you the raw data stream coming down.
TomTom has too much over head to trouble shoot with.
Been playing with GPS units for 8 years now, Palm3 to Sony N70 to HP 5450 and now Trinity.
Hi guys and gals,
I've tried doing a search on the forum but I'm struggling to find what I need...
Just wondering... I've installed TomTom 6 on the Artemis and I want to configure its GPS settings to use the internal GPS. What settings do I need to use?
I was setting COM4 and 4800bps but TomTom's just saying "No GPS Device"
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Rob.
Hi, the settings i use for TomTom Navigator 6 are:
"Other NMEA GPS reciever" - GPS Baud rate of 9600 - COM4:
Hope this helps
Strange, I have just posted this on another forum:
Please make sure the GPS setting within the control panel section of your C-III gas not been altered from default, messing with this can cause the problem you are having, it should be set:
Programs Tab
GPS Program Port COM4
Hardware Tab
None and 9600
Access Tab
Manage GPS automatically should be selected.
Start TomTom up and got to Change Preferences/ Show GPS Status, tap "Configure" and go through the various pages, the best one to use is "Built in GPS receiver" as it is the most simple setting only versions 6,020 and 6,030 have this facility. If you are using some other version go for "Other NMEA GPS Receiver", Baud Rate 9600, and select COM4:
Take the device outside and wait for a while for it to find the signal - Mike
I agree with the post above, but when you use Other NMEA , you can use any baud rate (assuming you are using the built in GPS reciever of the Artemis) on the Artemis. I prefer 57600.
And before you go out and wait for satellite connections, plug your Artemis to your computer and Activesync and fire up QuickGPS and download ephemeris data. You can also do this when youre connected to WiFi or GPRS.
This will speed up your device connecting to satellites.
Have fun.

Agreed lol
hi everone,
i've upgraded the rom to:
ROM Version: Artemis Vanilla 4.01 WWE
ROM date: 2/5/08
Radio Version: 03.07.90
Protocol Version: 4.1.13.51
(all above got from Device Information)
i used tomtom 6.02x before and my settings before rom & tomtom-update where:
GPS Program Port: COM4
GPS Hardware Port: (None)
Baud Rate: 115200
in Tomtom i used:
other NMEA
COM4
115200
Tomtom was really fast when i used this settings above and made the quickgps-update.
BUT NOW....
how i told before, i made this rom-update and installed new version tomtom 6.030 (8320) - tried to use the same settings like i ever had...
i hardly ever got a signal although tomtom verified my gps settings and everything looked okay.
Now i MUST USE:
GPS Program Port: COM4
GPS Hardware Port: (None)
Baud Rate: 9600
in Tomtom:
other NMEA
COM4
9600
...and Tomtom is very slow with 9600 baud - my subjective opinion!
1.) Did anybody make the same experiences and knows somekind of workaround to get tomtom work faster (get the signal faster!)
2.) Do i assume right, if i think that the working-speed of tomtom depends on the baud rate?
I WANT 115200 baud AGAIN ...for those who don't want to read my little novel above
Btw i also tried the new option in Tomtom: internal GPS Receiver. Tomtom verified my gps settings and everything looked okay - but no signal at all over half an hour with sunny sky in garden
regards, Van
I use...
GPS Program Port: COM4
GPS Hardware Port: (None)
Baud Rate: 9600
- and -
the option in Tomtom: internal GPS Receiver
just like you describe, but also use the quickGPS application and the signal is ready to go in TomTom in less than a minute.
Also, make sure on the Access tab in the external GPS settings (where all the above settings are) that the box it checked to manage GPS automatically.
Are you using quickGPS? Otherwise, I hope someone else has a better idea for you.
Good luck!
I use the vanallia rom with tomtom about 30 times a day....and if its of any use to you
the baud rate makes no difference, if anything all it would do is suck up ever so slightly more or less power depending on the speed (am i right? thats what i assumed and i always set it to the lowest ?!?)
anyways, Myself I find QuickGPS to be a bit of a waste of time, after not using that for quite sometime I find tomtom picks up a siginal if outside usually within 30 seconds first time and then within 1 or 2 seconds the rest of the day,
I have tomtom set to use internal GPS reciever, although for some reason my friends t-mobile flashed with same rom has to be set to use the NMEA, I don't quite understand that as I thought both devices were indentical except for the wifi, although there are several odd quicks that are different between the 2 devices..
anyways, I find if you just leave quickgps, just make sure you get a siginal and use it for a bit for a few days it seems to just work a lot quicker thereafter?
I can't see tomtom being the problem, If i ever have a trouble getting a fix I tend to use VisualGPSe and leave it running in the background, it'll run when the phone is in standby to keep the gps fix.
Have you reflashed your rom again? a lot of people seem to recommened flashing it twice to make sure it works properly?
The only other thing I can think of is to remove the GPS antenna and then put it back to make sure its sitting in right, (It may help? I'm assuming its removal, i've removed the one side of it before but didn't take it off completly as i was worried it wouldn't go back on!)
Sorry can't be of much help, but thought i'd try and give a friendly reply

oh its a easy one, had this many times before so follow these steps and your flying again
1. install the packedephemeris into the windows folder ( i attached it to this thread)
2. install SeaSGEE and do update. ( attached to thread)
3. go back into Tomtom and choose internal GPS
4. first time can take around 2 to 5 minutes to get a lock.
5. soft reset your phone then again update SeasGee.
6 run tomtom and have fun.
hello,
i had tomtom running on my mda compact III till a ferw days back. now when i try to run tom tom, i get an old map and the message at the bottom left saying "No GPS device" and somehow the bluelight (bluetooth ?) at the top starts flashing . i went to settings ->system (tab) --> GPS and checked the settings
GPS program port is GPD1
GPS hardware port is COM3
baud rate = 4800
access manage GPS automatically (recommended) --> checked
i googled the issue and came across the settings above at the following site
http://www.modaco.com/content/htc-a.../248572/compact-iii-gps-settings/#entry825168
the guys device works fine. can you guys tell me what has gone wrong to my GPS device
I just uninstalled tomtom navigator 6 and am reinstalling it later, but I believe these are my settings.
Other nmea reciever
Baud rate 4800
Com 4
Hardware port = 'none'.
thanks for the reply,
i tried hardware port "none" but that did not work on my xda
what was your GPS program port setting?
Go to the GPS aplet on the phone and set it as follows:
GPS Program port = COM4
GPS Hardware Port = (None) Baud Rate 4800
Manage GPS Automatically is selected
Now start the TomTom application and go to change preferences/ Manage GPS and use the selection for "Inbuilt GPS Receiver" if your software version supports this option, otherwise use Other NMEA GPS Device, Com 4, Baud 4800 and it should work fine - Mike
